The first time Caitlyn waves her hand to the bathroom and tells Vi to take whatever she wants, Vi is a bundle of nerves and adrenaline. She can barely sit still. It's a miracle she slept at all. The sun is barely starting to rise but it hadn't even set when they fell asleep. It's been hours and their mouths are fuzzy. Caitlyn is certain there's a spare toothbrush in her bathroom somewhere. She's even more certain that Vi can find it. If nothing else it will give her something to do and a bit of privacy. Vi gives her a mistrusting look, something spinning behind those grey eyes before she nods and pushes herself up. Caitlyn looks down at her toes so she doesn't stare at the way Vi walks. She thinks Vi might look back at her, but she doesn't dare look.
The second time she says it through chattering teeth and adrenaline locked limbs. She can't go in there to find where Vi might have put the toothbrush. If she has her way, she won't go in there ever again. Except she's a mess of paint and sweat. Her face is covered in spit and tears and god knows what else. She needs to shower. But she's not showering in that bathroom. Instead, while Vi is in there she pushes herself up and staggers to one of the other ones, her leg throbbing all the while. When she gets out of the bathroom, her toothbrush is waiting for her on a stool Vi has placed near the door. Caitlyn stares at it for a long while and tries not to feel anything.
The third and last time she has to make the offer twice before Vi mumbles something about later and goes back to kissing her like her life depends on it. When they do make it to the bathroom it's mostly them making out on whatever surface one presses the other to. Caitlyn doesn't know how they manage to peel themselves apart long enough to get any semblance of clean, but they manage. She knows that it takes her sitting on Vi's lap to convince Vi to take the next does of pills before she kisses Caitlyn again with the aftertaste of the powder lingering on her lips. It's bitter and Caitlyn couldn't care less.
After that, Vi just never leaves.
And what is in the bathroom just becomes theirs.
Vi just takes what is there. In her grief addled mind when she realizes the soap will be replaced, she tucks the bars away when they are fresh. Until she realizes that she has nowhere else to go and then Caitlyn finds her weeping, embarrassed and hurt like her own mind is working against her. After that they use the same products, passing bottles between their sinks. They are refreshed as needed by the household and Caitlyn doesn't think anything of it when she signs the expenses.
Until--
"What are you wearing?"
Vi blinks at her almost owl like. Her eyes trail down as though trying to figure out the question. They're both dressed in their uniforms. Vi's is unbuttoned, exposing the soft white breastband Vi has begun to wear in place of the bandages. From there it's just warm skin down to the belt that she refuses to replace, still slung low on her hips. She's not wearing much. Her eyes drag back up to Caitlyn and her head tilts to the side curiously before her lips start to tug up. Vi's lips are always irritable but they also always taste the same. Except not now. Now they taste like fruit and Caitlyn can see the color that still clings to them. The gloss makes kissing her even more intoxicating. Even before Vi's hands slide around her waist. Before she can ask further, Vi pushes herself up and kisses her so deeply Caitlyn almost gives into the temptation to peel off her jacket.
"You taste like berries," Caitlyn mumbles when Vi pulls back and teasingly kisses behind her ear.
"You like it?"
Caitlyn makes a noise and feels Vi smile against her skin. She's the sheriff she cannot strip in the office. But Vi barely spends her money and has just been using whatever is in the bathroom for so long. The idea that she's bought something for herself, something that she's pressing to Caitlyn's lips, it makes Caitlyn's mind go fuzzy in a way that only Vi seems capable of doing. She keeps one hand on the back of Vi's skull and reaches with the other to undo the fastening around her neck. Vi needs nothing else to dive for the exposed skin, pressing raspberry gloss to her pulse point at the same time her knee slots between Caitlyn's legs.
