i figured this wouldn’t kill to reblog because: a) it’s very to the point and b) it’s similar to information that i received from a translator from of mine (@sullaem) that she hasn’t (and may not, i’m not sure yet) post yet. as the admin of this blog i’ll admit that what happened last night was in a wind whirl and it was incredibly hard to keep up with what was going on on all ends. i answered a few questions regarding the topic (i answered an anonymous question on sunday about it that didn’t pick up attention) after the post that begun circulating from another blog (which i won’t link to but it’s around so it’s not too hard to find). emotions were obviously very high, as was confusion, and i can admit that there were misunderstandings all around. i shared this post with my friend and she also elaborated to me that he never said “i prefer” or used the word “prefer” in any context, nor did he use “i like” or “because i like girls with pale skin” in any way. i’ve seen two translations that put it that way and they were apparently both mistranslated. (apparently the actress he picked is also known / nicknamed as “pale yeonju” which is… yeah, so that could have played into it as well). she also confirmed, as was said in the post above already, that the korean language really doesn’t have words for “pale” or “tan”.

anyway, i’d like to apologize for any hysteria my blog may have directly caused, though i know that most of it came from that other post (and i know that the other person wasn’t intending to do that either and has gotten a lot of unwarrented backlash because of it). my original reply can still be found but there’s not much being said there that isn’t either obvious or hasn’t been said already. i’d like to say something though: there’s nothing wrong with being upset with the comment and if someone’s not that’s their business as well. people can decide how they feel about it - but i’d like to ask for people to please refrain from sending slurs to jonghyun’s instagram and twitter. please. i’ve been told by multiple people that they’ve seen people using slurs used frequently on easten asians and koreans specifically when “dragging” him and that’s that’s INCREDIBLY GROSS and very racist. please don’t resort to doing this.
