Study Tip #31
âAlright, hereâs how this is going to go - youâre going to sit your ass in that chair and and study like there is no fucking tormorrow. Youâve got three days till exams start, and youâre going to make the most of them. Got it? I said GOT IT, MAGGOT?â
- me, yelling at myself while simultaneously sobbing
I screwed up, again
Guess what, I was supposed to turn in my thesis this monday, but my teacher said that itâs not finished and that it be better if i donât turn it in this year. And Iâm gonna be honest with you, I agree.
Truth is Iâve been very... meh this past few months. Itâs the end of my final year and Iâve been doing so many things I just didnât have the time to actually focus for more than 3 hours a week on the project so obviously, even though Iâve put way more hours into it these past few weeks, itâs not gonna be ready for next week.
Iâve accept it, Iâm not gonna finish uni this year, itâs okay, it happens. Iâm not perfect.
The thing is Iâm not happy, I havenât been happy for the past 3 years because even though I donât dislike what Iâm studying, I want to do many things that I canât do because Iâm busy with uni stuff. Last year was very hard for me because I got very, VERY lazy and I let myself get carried by my peers which is not good because I got used to not doing shit, and I lacked motivation even to do the things that I like.
Long story short, Iâve not been doing my best, so itâs normal my thesis is not ready. Itâs my fault. Talking to my parents about it has helped me realise that I donât really have a problem with my situation. My problem is that I had this unrealistic idea of myself that I would able to work very hard and that I would be able to focus for a ridiculous amount of time (like those youtube study people, honestly how do they do it?), when in reality, I canât. Iâm not like that. I used to be like that, maybe thatâs why I thought I could do it, but Iâm not anymore. I picked up some very bad study habits and I thought I could fix them in 3 months, but I couldnât. Basically because I was way more focused on getting work done than how I got it done.Â
This is new for me. Even though Iâve failed a few subjects before, I still thought I could finish uni in 4 years. But thatâs not the case.
This is even worse for me because Iâm used to being the smart one. I always got good grades, I always studied with time and I was good at organising myself, and now? My friends are graduating this year, but me, the âsmartâ one, am not.Â
And it hurts.
Iâve been lying to myself telling myself that I could do everything I wanted because Iâm mentally strong (when obviously thatâs not true). But now that this has happened, I donât need to lie to myself anymore. I am not mentally strong but I will for sure work towards getting that strength back.
An I will start by making sure I pass all my subjects so all I have left for next year is the thesis. I will post my progress here because I think itâll be a good way of building discipline and forcing myself to stick to the goals I set.
Thank you for sticking with me even though I said I would post but I didnât. This time I will, because Iâm tired of feeling useless.

u know how badly i just want everything to stop. i want exams and deadlines to stop. i want to be able to read and write whenever and whatever i want. i wanna watch tv shows all the time i wanna listen to music and look out of my window for hours but i want to be able to do all this stuff without worrying about everything else. i just want it all to stop
How to Feign Your Life is Together
Have a signature accessory, clothing article, make up look, or hair style.
Have a fragrance. Make your hair scents and lotions match your perfume.
Itâs okay to dine alone. Bring a book or people watch.
Love your hair. Research the best brands for your hair type and use masks weekly.
Your nails donât need to be fancy, but keep them maintained.
Stay worldly. Know works of art, artists, designers, films, books, politicians. Spend your lunch break reading the paper or a magazine.
Crying is not a weapon. Itâs okay to feel your emotions, but never use them as an excuse to avoid your problems.
Jealousy is boring. Love and appreciate others. If you canât love them, forget them.
Boost others. Flatter others, but donât deprecate yourself in the process.
Donât sulk. Donât let the whole world know your problems. If you donât want someone to give their opinion, donât share your situation.
Your life is between you and the universe. Donât post your personal matters for others to see.
Donât emotionally blackmail others. They hurt you? Let them know and then move on. Itâs between the two of you and not the world.
Cook dinner. Cook dinner and listen to music, the radio, or a podcast.
Treat yourself to candles and flowers. Be your own cheerleader.
Take naps. Take a cat nap on a Sunday afternoon with the blinds open and the fan on high.
Drink your water, eat your vegetables. Take care of your body.
Never have time to take off your jewelry before bed, but always have time to take off your makeup. Your nighttime skin regime is important.
Mystery is beautiful. You donât need to reveal much of or about yourself.
Never appear other than as you are. Donât lie about yourself. Embrace who you are at your core.
Tips for Surviving Tough Times
1. Remind yourself that you still have options (even if they arenât all that appealing at the moment).
2. Focus on those few things that are going well (even if you have to scratch your head and really, really think!)
3. Decide what you can do ⊠and then just take the next small step. And then, when youâve done that, take another tiny step.
4. Admit how you are feelings; admit your greatest fears o fight, and persevere.
5. Let go of all the oughts, and the musts and the shoulds. Demands and expectations will only wear you down.
6. Ensure your life is balanced â and make sure you make the time to relax, have some fun, to chill out, and have a laugh.

Freak out time
I think Iâm going to leave my dissertation for next year, even though Iâve already started it for this year.
The thing is every time I put myself to do it I grow more and more frustrated and impatient because I can see just how âdifficultâ (maybe not difficult but what Iâm trying to do is way past my abilities) it is and how I wonât have enough time to finish it. I barely have one month to finish the web application and then two weeks to write the whole thing. I just canât see myself pulling it off seeing how Iâve just spent the last 2+ weeks with the same problem.
I really donât know what to do.

And Idk, maybe if I leave it for next year Iâll even be more motivated to do it.
Ugh.

Literally do your work as soon as you know it exists. If you get homework, do it during your free or when you get home or on the train if you really want to, on the day you get it. Just got set an assignment? Get the draft done that weekend. It doesnât have to be amazing and absolutely ready to send in, it just needs to exist. Just got sent an email? Reply when you see it. If youâre not sure how to response to it, write Dear (), leave a gap and then write Regards () and keep that in your drafts. Set a reminder on your computer or write the reminder on a sticky note that youâve got that sitting in your drafts and you need to send it off in the next 24 hours. Need to clean your room? Donât spend time thinking or planning how youâre going to clean it or how youâre going to change up the space in the process, just pick stuff up and put it where it should be until everythingâs in order. Done. Seriously dude, when a task arises as an issue, tackle it as soon as you realise it exists. Remember, it doesnât need to be amazing it just needs to be done. So, when the due date of the task creeps closer, you can go back, work with what you have and make it the quality you want it to be.Â
NEW STUDYBLR!Â
Hi everyone,Â
I have been following the studyblr tag for a few years now and it has inspired me to try and start my own. I will probably be awful at it initially but I hope to learn and improve as time goes by. Â
a little about me:
- My name is Phoebe and I am 21 years old
- I am from London (UK) but I am studying in Cornwall (UK)
- I study English Literature at university (almost finished 2nd year)
- I love books and stationery
- I am particularly interested in early modern literature and Gothic literature but enjoy all kinds
- Subjects I studied at A level were: English Literature, Sociology, Economics, Biology and Geography
Thanks to anyone who took the time to read this. I would really appreciate any reblogs!Â

Hi, itâs Claudia! Itâs currently finals season for me so I thought maybe this could be helpful to everyone taking their finals soon as well! Iâll try my best to make it short and simple.
Basic tips: -Consistent work throughout the whole semester is going to help you. You donât have to do detailed notes but at least study your material. -Attend your classes (unless you really canât) and pay as much attention as you can.  I jot down (messy) notes in class to keep me concentrated. I know some lectures are completely boring, but the action of going to class can help you feel productive, and it can help you remember the syllabus. -Be patient and kind to yourself. If you canât understand a topic, take it slow. Donât bash yourself for it. Google, YouTube, ask your seniors, go to the library. Relax, breathe, continue on. Youâve got this. -Take care of your body & your environment. Stay hydrated, eat your meals, make sure your living space is habitable/somewhat organized. A change of space can help too, so you can visit a cafĂ© or the library. -Stay off social media for a while. If youâre uncomfortable of leaving your phone locked away like me because of some responsibilities, maybe just turn off your internet.
*thereâs probably more to add, but these are just a few things I would recommend. Add your own recommendations if you want!*
The actual studying process: 1. Print out material: Personally, I study better if I have the physical copies of notes  to read them non-digitally.  Sometimes throughout the semester I misplace notes/donât print some chapters, so during finals, I compile all my lecture slides and print it and bind it so I have it all to study for. You can ask from notes from seniors, and you can pass yours down too.
2. Type your own notes: For reading intensive classes (for me, classes like psych, historyâŠ), typing my own notes help a lot. Sometimes the lecture notes are too lengthy and detailed, and the typing process helps me study too. I print them as well afterwards.
3. Highlighting: I find highlighting to keep my concentrated, and the action makes sure Iâm sort of absorbing the material because I need to focus to see whatâs important that needs highlighting. For b&w notes the pop of color helps me concentrate too.
4. Writing concise notes: Usually throughout the semester I write notes in notebooks so I can keep up with whatâs going on. When itâs exams season, I rewrite the notes but I do it super concise, and usually get to write the whole syllabus in just a couple pieces of paper. The writing helps you study, and the conciseness makes sure youâre studying the right stuff. You can highlight these as well to help study.
5. Actually read your notes (sometimes out loud): I usually do this maybe a day or two before the test and on the day itself. I like to read it out loud to help it stick in my head.
6. Study with a friend: I like to study with friends because they can keep you accountable. Also, itâs good to ask friends questions and better yet to teach them something because that helps you learn as well. You guys can test each other too, which is great.
7. Refer to resources: This doesnât just mean textbooks. Of course, borrowing the basic text for your class is helpful, but I mean, ask your seniors for help, ask friends, and refer to podcasts or videos online too. For my politics and history classes, Crash Course helped a lot. Looking up exercises online helps too.
Further tips on how to study: -Study strategically. Know your coursework marks, and how much you need to score in your finals in order to get your target grade. Study accordingly. Ask your lecturer for the format of your exam, sometimes they give you key topics for the essay sections which is super helpful, so make sure to ask. -Understand your topics as much as you can. I know some subjects you need to memorize, but seriously, donât just memorize meanings. You can memorize, e.g., the 5 steps in x process, but donât memorize what each step means. -Prioritize your subjects. Donât study one topic youâre already doing comparatively better at because itâs easy or because it comes first. Itâs sometimes not best to study equally for each subject because there truly are some harder/easier classes, and it all depends on yourself.
I would like to clarify that this is what works best for me and what I would suggest to other people if they asked for my advice, but also remember that things do work differently for different students, so try to figure out what works best for you, preferably not just a few days before your finals. IÂ hope this has been helpful. Good luck!
Again, Iâve been missing for a while, but now Iâm back. Tbh I completely forgot about tumblr for a couple of days bcs I was too busy with work, so instead of posting a couple of days a week, Iâll do my best to post everyday. This way I wonât forget and Iâll force myself to make sure I work everyday.
As for today, itâs currently 6 am and Iâve already been at it for an hour. The thing is I am incapable of staying up late to work so I like to wake up early and make sure I can fit at least an hour of work before 6am. Idk this is just how i function ^^'
Iâve been working on a web application, but itâs quite slow so Iâm trying to optimize its performance before presenting it to my teacher. I need to have the whole thing finished by the end of May, which is quite an impossible goal but whatevs.
I swear Iâm so unmotivated I just want uni to end already, but without all the suffering that comes with it.
