I’m a few years older and have experienced more heartbreak, but have yet to be in a relationship and find love. I consider “Die Young” by Sylvan Esso to be a love song in its own right. She sings about finding the person who allows her to endure the struggles of life. I am still searching for that person and do hope one day that I find them. Until then, I wait.

I just love Wintersleep.  Every part of me loves them.  I listen to this song, and I feel like my brain can't even process how much it loves it.  Does that even make sense?  I love it.  It makes my heart happy.  

The album version is fantastic, but all songs are better live, and this video proves that theory.  

Wintersleep...we shall meet again.  Soon. <3

...ugh, it has been forever since I took time for music.  I have been so lost.  So very lost.  I have finally put together a small playlist of the songs I’ve screenshotted over the months.  I can’t remember what led me to want to continue to listen to each song, but there had to have been a reason at the time.  Maybe I won’t understand anymore because my head is finally clear.  The grey cloud of gloominess has become 92% clear.  Still have one more month to go for the year, and then trying not to relive the heartbreak of my birthday.  So I will try to let music back in.  Try to return to my normal self; the one who got lost in the music not in heartbreak.

I like this song because not only is it super catchy and adorable but also so relatable! I mean who hasn’t had that friend who is perfect in every way, but you are perpetually in the friend zone?!

I thought I initially would post songs daily containing songs that have helped me to get out of the funk I’ve been in this year.

Clearly I have not been posting songs daily, as I have been too overwhelmed on most days to even think beyond what’s plaguing my brain.

This song is by no means new, but popped into my head this weekend.  

I keep wondering when/if I will feel like myself again.  I’m not even sure what feeling like myself means anymore.

...so, there is totally something wrong with my brain.  Pretty sure my neurotransmitters do not want to play nice with one another.  I really just need my serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine to take a chill pill! 

I found this song yesterday on yet another 8tracks playlist while cooking dinner. 

It made me think of all the things that are wrong with me...but also made me think that despite all of the craziness that exists in my brain, I am still blessed with the opportunity to enjoy amazing music.

Music that makes me want to dance and sing to the point that I lose myself. 

So, yes I acknowledge that my mind is a mess, but at least I can still have a good dance party while I figure myself out!

...blargh, I fail at life.

I intended to post this song on Friday (it is now Wednesday!) 

I found this song on an 8tracks playlist and enjoyed the upbeat tune (and that I could time it to my walk to work).

Rah Rah is a fun-loving and energetic band that I’ve had the pleasure of seeing two times.  First time in a city that was too far from home and second time in my hometown.  

Their stage presence, use of confetti and all around good vibes make them an act that every Canadian indie music fan should see.

I am beyond excited for their new album and the chance to hopefully see them again in September.  

I haven’t had a chance to really sit down and listen to the song lyrics, but I enjoy dancing and repetitively singing “don’t panic.” 

Even though no other words from the song currently jump out at me, simply singing “don’t panic” helps me not to panic.  When I’m feeling down or thinking of that person I really shouldn’t be thinking about, I put on this song, do a little dance, and prosper the crap out of life.

...I love The Dodos.  I started to listening to their music a few years ago, but never thought to listen to their back catalogue.  

This song is from 2006, but I only came across it recently.  I love that he paints a picture of his experiences and emotions in a way that easy to visualize.  I imagine he is the kind of person that is awkward, introverted and thrives on familiarity rather than the unknown.

I would say that my awkwardness and introverted character have become deeper rooted as I’ve gotten older.  And even think that this year is a record year for time spent at home.  My anxiety and insecurities get the best of me in many social situations, which leads me to avoid them altogether. 

So, until I feel like I can brave the world, I think I will “just stay in my home, in my home, in my home,” because it’s safer here.  And an added bonus is the availability of Netlfix and snacks :-)

However, it makes me feel better that there are people out there who only feel truly comfortable when they are alone.

...Snap Out of It!

I heard this song today on my walk to work.  And like most work days, I tried to start my morning off right with an energetic playlist.  

I enjoyed this song at first because it was easy to time my steps to and made my walk much more enjoyable.

However, when I watched the video today and read the lyrics, I realized that the song (in the way I’ve interpreted it), is telling me that it is about time I finally snap out of the funk I’ve been in this year.

It appears the woman in the video is pining over a lost love, but with set to a song repeatedly telling her to “snap out of it” and to move on.  Whether or not that is the intent of the song/video, that’s how I’ve read it.

I’ve found it so difficult to turn off the emotions that I have for someone who so clearly does not want to be with me and is clearly so wrong for me.  

It’s not easy just to move on or snap out of it, despite that fact that the other person has moved on.

So...although it’s been hard to get out of my past and into my future, I think that with time I will finally snap out of it.

And if all else fails, I’m going to do what she does near the end of the video and just dance!

Well, this is what post #3 and already I am failing at life.

I have a song picked out for today, however, due to a mild panic attack, it will have to wait until tomorrow!

So,..this post will likely get more personal than I would like (thanks to a bottle of wine).

Concrete Wall is a song by Zee Avi that I listened to near the final stretch of a long, long (long) walk.  

The intro to the song draws you in and makes you wonder which direction the song is going.

It is a song that made me not want to settle.  I’ve been single all of my 29 years, and waiting for the day to meet my forever person (what can I say, I’m a hopeless romantic).

I envision her singing about a relationship that is clearly on the brink of collapse, but even worse, at the point where the other person in the relationship is verbally or physically abusive.

So….I’ve decided that I need to get to a place where I am content with being single and happy.  To find a place where I am OK waiting for my forever person and can stop searching them out.  

As a result, I deleted my online dating account (thank goodness) and am focusing on me.

Post Numero Un...

...So I’ve been meaning to start writing for a while now.  I always enjoyed writing as a kid, but as science took over my “artsy” side, I kind of gave up all forms of writing.  

I found a post by #cbcmusic to be of interest as it indicated that we stop listening to new music at the age of 33 (http://music.cbc.ca/#!/blogs/2015/4/You-stop-listening-to-new-music-at-age-33-earlier-for-parents-study-finds)

And all of a sudden it hit me!  I am 29 years old...I finished school 11 months ago and the amount of new music I am listening to has decrease substantially! 

I used to listen to more than 8 hours of music a day, and now am lucky if I listen to an hour of music.  It just floors me how this could happen because I always thought I was the kind of person who thrives off of new music and going to shows.

This year alone I’ve been to...2 shows! And it was the same band twice!! I’m losing my touch....and therefore, I have made it my mission to at least post one new song (new to me) each day.  

This year has been difficult for me thus far, and I have found comfort in music.  So as I journey through discovery of myself and new music, I will post along the way.
