𓄲 In order to make ends meet you pick up a side job as the nanny of a brooding, cold perfectionist by the name of Jeon Jungkook — while in the process of doing so, you might've ended up twisting the narrative about your education just a little. Watching over a few children couldn't be too hard, right? Only Jungkook is very peculiar about how he wants things done — strict routines, meal plans and tedious study hours that make the Jeon estate feel more like a military camp than a home — and it's only a matter of time until cracks in the seemingly perfect facade begin to form.

Jungkook has always been a fan of weddings. Some might call him a sap and make fun of him for getting excited about seeing the bride walk down the aisle, or for tearing up at the speeches, but he really doesn't care. He loves it. He especially loves that he gets to witness two of his closest friends tie the knot in just a couple of hours.
For you on the other hand, today is a bit less joyful. That's not to say you're not happy for Namjoon and Mai, because you are. You've grown to really like his friends and you hope their marriage is filled with nothing but happiness and endless love. You're just not a big lover of weddings in general. It could just be the resentment of your failed engagement that you've tucked away in your heart that seems to be clawing its way up to the surface. To you, weddings are just a reminder of everything you've lost.
"Why aren't you dressed yet?" Jihyo asks, her eyes wide as she takes in your pyjama-clad appearance through the screen of her phone. She's already dressed and ready to go in a navy floor-length gown, looking her very best to impress Taehyung, who asked her to be his plus-one.
The FaceTime call was intended for her to ask your opinion on her choice of earrings, but instead, she's caught you in the middle of an anxious spiral.
"I don't know if I can do this," you blurt out, letting out a deep sigh.
"What? Of course you can-"
"No, seriously. I haven't been to a wedding since my cousin's last year and I only stayed for an hour then left," you mutter, chewing on your bottom lip.
When you agreed to be Jungkook's date to the wedding, you were still on cloud-nine after Jeju, your rose coloured glasses still perched snugly on the bridge of your nose. Now? Now you're second guessing everything, your brain yelling at you to take ten steps back.
"Okay, just...breathe. Everything's gonna be fine," Jihyo reassures you. "I know this is out of your comfort zone, but I promise, you're gonna be okay. What happened with Sunghoon doesn't define you. You can do this. You're gonna go and you're gonna dance with Sexyboots and you're gonna have champagne and you'll look hot doing it. And I'll be there if you need me."
Her words bring your anxiety down from a 10 to a 5.
"What if I cry?"
"Then you cry, so what?" She shrugs, offering you a soft smile. "That's okay. It's a wedding, you'll just blend in with everyone else who's crying."
She's got a good point.
"What if I throw up? You know I throw up when I'm really anxious."
"Then I'll just say you had some bad Chinese food. ___, I'm not letting you back out of this."
"Why nooot?" you whine, plopping down on your bed with a huff and a roll of your eyes.
"Because I'm not going to this wedding without you. And a little itty-bitty wedding does not have the power over you to make you this stressed out. Now get your ass up and go get dressed before Jungkook gets there and sees you like this."
You know you can't argue with Jihyo when she speaks in that tone. And besides, she's right, it's just a wedding. So what if your fiancé slept with one of your friends a month before your wedding? No big deal. You just have to put on your big girl panties and go.
After another twenty minutes of trying to find an excuse not to go, and ultimately failing, you force yourself to get up and take a shower, scrubbing your skin until it hurts in an attempt to distract your brain from impending doom. You work almost robotically, doing your hair and makeup on autopilot. When you open your closet to get your dress, you catch a glimpse of that pesky white tulle peeking out from behind the rest of the clothes, as if it's mocking you.
You'll have to throw that thing away one of these days.
By the time you've zipped up your dress, there's a knock at the front door. It's him. You rush to give yourself one last glance in the mirror, making sure every hair is in place before going to get the door.
"Hey, you- woah..." Jungkook's jaw goes slack, his eyes growing in size as he drinks you in. He swallows thickly, his hands fidgeting at his sides. "You look...you're...wow..."
You'd think he was overreacting if you didn't feel the same about his attire. Seeing him in his tux, with his hair styled in that way that makes his face look extra chiselled, has your face flushing and your heart racing.
"You look...wow too," you chuckle, feeling a lot lighter than you did a minute ago. "I like your suit."
"I like your dress," he murmurs, his lungs feeling like he just ran up a flight of stairs. "You're gorgeous."
You want to tell him that he's gorgeous, but instead, you roll your eyes, grab your purse and kiss an unbothered Miso goodbye before making your way out. The short trip down to his car is silent, both of you feeling some nerves, both for very different reasons.
He opens the passenger side door for you and makes his way to the driver's seat, starting the route to the venue. He puts on some music while he drives, absentmindedly tapping his fingers along the steering wheel. He can sense how busy your brain is by the way you fidget with your hands in your lap, but he isn't quite sure how to approach the matter.
"Everything okay?" he asks, quickly glancing over at you before turning his eyes back to the road.
"Mhm," you nod, staring out the window. "Weddings just make me a bit emotional."
He wouldn't call the look on your face emotional, more so anxious, but he won't call you out for it. Instead he tries to lighten the mood, stepping around the obvious tension.
"Well, you can cry on my shoulder if you want," he smiles. "Thankfully my suit is black, so no one will ever notice if you get mascara on it."
You scoff, forcing a faint smile across your lips. "Right."
He keeps glancing your way, watching you intently. He looks as if he's trying to read your thoughts, but he's not Charles Xavier and he can't do that, so he settles on making lighthearted conversation until you reach the venue.
"Y'know, I'm not the best dancer but I do hope you'll save me a dance tonight," he murmurs, subtly glancing over at you.
"Please, I have two left feet," you scoff.
"Well, I happen to have two right feet, so I guess it works out then."
The smile that tugs at the corners of your lips is too strong to fight, so you give in and let it settle across your face.
When you arrive at the wedding venue, it looks like something out of a fairytale. It's a stunning outdoor ceremony, with rows of elegant chairs for guests to be seated and decorative flower arrangements, with a few violinists seated at the entrance, waiting for their cue to begin playing. The weather is warm with a slight breeze, the seasons slowly transitioning from summer to autumn, creating just the right temperature for a wedding.
Most of the other guests are already there when the two of you arrive. You spot his friends sitting in a row behind Namjoon and Mai's family members, everyone looking their best to celebrate the happy couple. You and Jungkook make your way over, sitting next to Jihyo and Taehyung, who have apparently been flirting like horny teenagers for the past thirty minutes, according to Yoongi.
"Hey, how're you feeling?" Jihyo whispers while Jungkook and his friends make their way to the front to talk to a nervous-looking Namjoon.
"I'm good," you nod, not wanting to take away from Namjoon and Mai's big day.
She can see the slight unease on your face, but this is neither the time nor the place to do a deep dive on your personal issues, so she nods and takes your word for it. She'll speak to you about it tomorrow over a pint of ice cream and some Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
"You and Taehyung seem pretty cozy," you whisper, shooting her a little grin.
"He's so sweet," she sighs. "He brought me flowers when he came to pick me up at my apartment."
"You really like him, huh?"
She nods, smiling down at her lap. "I do, yeah...and that suit he's wearing makes me wanna suck his dick real bad."
"Jesus Christ," you mutter under your breath, looking around to make sure Namjoon and Mai's parents didn't hear that.
"What about you? Are things okay with...?" She gestures towards Jungkook with her eyes.
You look over at him, watching the way he laughs at something Hoseok said, the way his nose scrunches up and his eyes squeeze shut. He's beautiful in the late afternoon sunlight, his presence filling you with a warmth that overpowers the light autumn breeze.
"Yeah," you nod, feeling a smile start to tug at the corners of your lips as he makes his way over to take his seat next to you.
"Everything okay?" he asks, picking up on your stare.
You nod, leaning a bit closer to his side. Your smile reassures him that everything is more than okay. When you're with him, you're okay.
Jihyo watches the two of you with a soft smile on her face, picking up on the instant shift in your mood. You seem happier when he's near, your smile growing wider when he whispers in your ear to tell you that he likes your hair in this style, his fingers gently brushing a few stray strands behind your ear. Jihyo knows your feelings for him go way deeper than you'd like to admit, and when Taehyung makes a flirty comment about love being in the air, she can't agree more.
An announcement is made for everyone to take their seats, signaling that the ceremony is about to start. Everyone quiets down, the violinists getting their bows ready to begin playing the opening melody. Soon, the music starts and everyone watches as Mai's father leads her down the aisle, her dress trailing behind her with every step she takes. She looks like an angel draped in lace and tulle, her smile radiant as she walks towards the love of her life.
Your vision starts to blur with unshed tears as you glance over at the groom, watching as he struggles to keep his emotions at bay. He holds himself together as best he can when he shakes Mai's father's hand in a silent promise to take care of his daughter.
Namjoon takes one look at his bride and it's like everyone and everything else fades away. He takes her hands in his and vows to cherish her and protect her, to love her until they are both nothing but dust and bones. Mai reaches out to dry his tears, promising to love him through all of life's challenges, making a vow to be his wife now and forever.
There isn't a dry eye in sight, so you don't look out of place when the tears stream down your cheeks, putting up a good fight against the layers of setting spray plastered over your makeup. It's a hard moment for you, but you push through for Namjoon and Mai, and when the ceremony ends with a tearful kiss between the happy couple, you clap and cheer, and you wish them nothing but the best.
Everyone makes their way to the reception area after the ceremony. The marquee is breathtaking, draped in soft ivory fabrics that flutter gently in the early evening breeze, with twinkling fairy lights hanging overhead, casting a warm glow. Long tables are elegantly set throughout, each adorned with crisp white table linens, floral displays and flickering candles. As guests begin to gather inside, laughter and soft jazz music fill the air, creating a warm atmosphere that adds to the beauty of the surroundings.
You take your seat next to Jungkook, sitting at a table with Jihyo, Taehyung, Seokjin and Jisoo, and their two sons, Dohyun and Moonbin. Unfortunately, they had to leave their youngest at home with Jisoo's mom because he's a bit too young for such a long night out. Seated at the next table are Jimin, Hana, Yoongi and his date, Areum, and Hoseok and his date, Eunji, along with two of Namjoon's co-workers. Everyone mingles throughout dinner, enjoying the delicious spread of food and drinks.
"They grow up so fast," Seokjin teases. "It feels like just yesterday when Joon asked her to be his girlfriend."
"I remember him being so nervous to ask her out, spamming the group chat to let us know he was gonna do it," Jungkook chuckles.
"They make a beautiful couple," you muse quietly, looking over at Namjoon and Mai at the head table, Namjoon looking at his wife with stars in his eyes. It's the same look the man to your left gives you when you're not paying attention.
"They're gonna have the best sex on their honeymoon," Taehyung mutters, stuffing a huge wedge of roasted potato into his mouth.
"Language, Tae," Jisoo chides, trying to cover Dohyun and Moonbin's ears, even though the ten-year-old and seven-year-old have already heard and are now snickering amongst themselves.
"Honeymoon sex is the best sex," Seokjin grins smugly before taking a sip of his champagne, earning a swat from his wife.
"That's enough out of you," Jisoo grumbles, shaking her head.
"What?! It's true!" Seokjin chuckles, resting his arm over the back of her chair. "How do you think we made this little guy," he grins, reaching around her back to ruffle Dohyun's hair, earning a "Gross, dad!" from their eldest son.
"Where do you think we'll have our honeymoon?" Taehyung asks Jihyo. Normally, a woman would tell him he's crazy for making a joke like that after barely two months of flirty texts and a drunk hookup on the night they met. Jihyo, however, falls right into step alongside him.
"Maybe Italy. They have nice beaches," she smiles.
"I guess I should start practicing my Italian. All I know is ciao and spaghetti."
"Wow, you're an educator?" Seokjin scoffs.
"Hey, I teach English Lit, not Italian," he shrugs.
Jihyo laughs, making a comment about getting him into a speedo on an Italian beach, to which Taehyung responds with a joke about being The Rock's body double in Baywatch, earning a cackle from Seokjin.
"You're cute," Jihyo leans in to whisper, a smile breaking out on Taehyung's face.
"You're cute," he grins.
You watch from across the table as the two throw flirty words back and forth, clearly enjoying whatever it is the two of them have going on. They seem to pair well together. She laughs at his jokes, like, actually laughs. He seems to like making her laugh, cracking jokes just to see her reaction. It's sweet.
Dessert is served and speeches follow shortly after, some friends and family members saying a few heartfelt words. Mai's maid of honour, her sister, gives a speech about having an amazing older sister to look up to, and her father makes everyone tear up with his speech about letting go of his daughter and trusting another man to love and care for her. As the best man, Seokjin gives a particularly moving speech about watching his best friend, Namjoon, fall in love, pulling a few awww's from the guests. You hear a soft sniffle coming from your left, so you glance over at Jungkook to find him wiping his eye with his thumb, his bottom lip caught between his teeth.
"Are you crying?" you whisper, forcing down a smile.
"No, I just...the flowers are irritating my allergies," he mumbles, avoiding eye contact.
You smile, finding it hard to resist leaning over to plant a kiss to his pouty lips. If it weren't for all these people, you probably would, but you can't risk letting everyone in on the feelings you harbour for him. Still, the risk of being caught doesn't stop you from reaching out for his hand under the table and absentmindedly playing with his fingers until they end up intertwined with yours.
Once the speeches are over, the live band starts back up, soft jazz music filling the marquee. A few guests even make their way onto the dance floor with their significant others while Namjoon and Mai start making their rounds to talk to their friends and family members. Jungkook gets up from his seat, taking the opportunity to stretch his legs a bit.
"I'm gonna go to the bathroom," he whispers. "I'll be right back, okay?"
You nod and watch as he walks off, occasionally greeting a few of Namjoon's relatives on the way to the bathroom. He seems to have a real way with people, Namjoon's grandmother greeting him like he's her own grandson. It's a strange feeling to see how people naturally gravitate towards him. He's charismatic in a soft-spoken, gentle kind of way. He's able to engage in conversation about basically anything. Dohyun and Moonbin call him Uncle Jungkook, the cool uncle who buys them Lego's and lets them take his cute dog on walks. He's kind, and polite, and he cries at weddings, and he radiates love. It's practically impossible not to love him, so you feel justified in your feelings when you see just how loved he is by everyone else around him.
Some of his friends make their way outside to get some fresh air, some going to get champagne at the bar area, while Jihyo gets spun around by Taehyung on the dance floor. Mai spots you sitting alone, so she makes her way over, trying not to mess up her dress when she sits down next to you.
"Hey, pretty lady," she smiles, looking even more radiant up close. "You having fun?"
"I am," you murmur, a soft smile gracing your face. "You make a beautiful bride, Mai."
Mai waves you off, playfully rolling her eyes. "Please, I cried all my makeup off."
"I think Namjoon might have cried more than you, so you're good," you tease.
She throws her head back in laughter, glancing over at her husband who seems to be having a heartfelt conversation with a few of his aunties. "Isn't it insane? I'm married to that guy."
You feel a pit start to grow in your stomach, but you smile and nod, and you make conversation to drown out the little voice in your head taunting you.
'It's all your own fault that you're not married.'
'Sunghoon was right, you prioritised your job and drove him away.'
'Jungkook won't want you when he realizes how much baggage you carry.'
"So," Mai lightly nudges your arm, pulling you out of your daze. "Where's your guy?"
The mention of Jungkook seems to soothe you. A smile threatens to break out across your face at her referring to him as your guy. Is he your guy? You want to deny it, but instead you indulge in the giddy feeling for a bit longer.
"He went to the bathroom. He should be back anytime now."
"What do you say, are you two next in line?" she teases, holding up her ring finger with a smirk on her face.
Please, as if you'd ever allow yourself to get as far as that again.
"Don't start that," you scoff, giving her a pointed look.
"Hey, I'm just saying. I saw the two of you earlier during dinner. He was practically drooling over you while you weren't looking."
"He was not."
"How long are we gonna keep doing this?" She chuckles, rolling her eyes. "You say you're just friends, then I say you're crazy because you're obviously-"
"We're obviously just two adults who get along," you shrug, feigning ignorance.
Mai watches the way you look down at your lap to avoid her eyes. She knows it's because you don't believe your own words, and she can see you clearly have more layers hiding beneath the surface.
"Look," she sighs, her tone turning softer. "I know we haven't known each other for very long, but I really like you and I think we're building a real friendship...and I can tell you might have some things holding you back from being honest with yourself."
You glance over at her, feeling naked under her gaze. She can see right through you, and you hate it. You hate that you can't run away from your baggage forever. You hate how right she is.
"___, I may not know everything and I don't mean to overstep, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...but I see the way you look at each other. Friends don't look at or treat one another the way you do."
You can't say that she's wrong, so you don't say anything at all. You don't know how to say what you really feel. You don't know how to explain that you're so scared of getting hurt, so you don't allow yourself to indulge in the things that could end up hurting you. You want to be honest and shout out loud that you love him, that you want to be loved by him, but you find that it's easier to love him from a distance than to risk getting your heart broken again.
"I'm sorry if I overstepped," she murmurs softly, offering you an apologetic smile.
You know she means well, and she hasn't said anything that isn't true. "No, no, it's, uhm...it's okay, Mai."
She excuses herself when Namjoon calls her over to join the conversation he's having with her parents, not leaving without a hug. She leans down and wraps her arms around your shoulders, whispering a soft, "Please, give him a chance," before walking off to join her husband.
You watch with a smile as Jihyo and Taehyung dance to an upbeat jazz song. He dips her as a grand finale, the song coming to an end with a saxophone and drum harmony. The band prepares for the next song as a female singer steps up to the mic, the opening melody of 'A love that will last' by Renee Olstead floating through the marquee. You're so caught up in watching the couples fill the dance floor, you almost don't notice the soft tap on your shoulder and the whisper of a velvety voice in your ear.
"I think you owe me a dance, Professor."
You glance up at Jungkook, your heart pounding in your ears. His hand is outstretched, palm up, waiting for yours.
"Jungkook," you breathe out a soft chuckle, as if he's crazy for even suggesting it.
"C'mon," he whispers, subtly cocking his head to the side. "One dance."
Your heart lurches at the thought of potentially embarrassing yourself. You haven't slow danced since your prom night, and even then, it was more of an awkward shuffle than anything remotely graceful, but the way he's looking at you has you nodding in resignation. "Okay...one dance..."
You hesitate for only a second before slipping your fingers into his. His grip is gentle, leading you to the dance floor with practiced ease. The music drifts through the marquee, a romantic melody wrapping around the two of you like a secret. His other hand finds the small of your back, and suddenly, you're closer than you expected. Jungkook sways with you, his movements effortless, like he's done this a million times in his head. His thumb brushes the back of your hand absentmindedly, a nervous habit or maybe something more. His gaze flickers down to you, dark eyes unreadable, but there's something tender about the way he looks at you, like you're more than just a habit he can't break, more than a friend. It's not the first time he's held you, not even the most intimate touch you've shared, but something about this moment feels so different.
"You really do look beautiful tonight," he murmurs, barely loud enough to hear over the music.
A warmth creeps up your spine. "You clean up pretty good yourself."
He smiles, but it doesn't quite reach his eyes. Instead, there's something wistful in the way he looks at you, something unsaid lingering between you.
You let your head rest lightly against his chest, just for a moment, just long enough to feel the steady thrum of his heartbeat beneath the layers of his suit. You breathe in his cologne, warm and familiar, a reminder of nights tangled in sheets and whispered confessions that never quite crossed the line.
Jungkook holds you like he's afraid to let go, like if he does, you'll slip through his fingers completely. There's a weight in his chest, a truth sitting heavy on his tongue, but he swallows it down.
"I remember dancing with you at that Christmas party four years ago," you muse, your voice soft, barely above a whisper.
His face breaks out into a grin. "God, we were so drunk that night."
The night everything came to be.
You breathe out a quiet chuckle before your face melts into something softer. "It didn't feel like this though."
Jungkook chuckles, a quiet, breathy sound against your ear. "No?"
You shake your head. "This is different. Feels like it actually…means something."
It slips out before you can stop it, and for a split second, neither of you move. The words hang between you. You feel Jungkook's hold tighten, just a fraction, before he exhales slowly.
"What if it always has?"
Your heart stutters.
Jungkook doesn't look at you when he says it, his gaze fixed somewhere over your shoulder, like he's scared of what he might find in your eyes. But his hand at your waist lingers, his fingers flexing like he wants to pull you even closer, like he wants you to understand something he can't bring himself to say out loud.
You don't know how to respond, so you don't. Not yet. Instead, you let the music carry you, let yourself melt into the warmth of his embrace.
Your lack of reciprocation doesn't deter him. If anything, he holds you closer, his fingers curling into the fabric of your dress like he's memorizing the way it feels to hold you like this. Then he leans down, just enough that his lips brush your temple in the lightest of touches. He lingers for a second too long. A second that tells you everything his words can't.
And then, just like that, the song ends.
Jungkook steps back, forcing a small smile. "I should, uh, get us some drinks," he mutters, reluctantly putting space between you.
You nod, even though something inside you screams for him to stay, because for the first time, you realize that maybe you aren't the only one who's been pretending this whole time. Well, maybe he hasn't been pretending. Maybe you've just been too afraid to look a little closer, dig a little deeper. If you had, you would've noticed how brightly the truth shines in his big brown eyes.
You stand in the middle of the dance floor and watch as he walks off in the direction of the bar, disappearing into the sea of guests. You shouldn't be disappointed. You keep him at arm's length for a reason, yet that reason is starting to seem a bit hazy at the moment.
While he goes to get you some champagne and a water for himself—because he is ever the responsible driver—you take a moment to yourself, silently exiting the marquee to get some fresh air in a more secluded spot outside. The sky is illuminated by stars and twinkling lights draped throughout the garden outside, the music faintly drifting through the air in the background.
The night air is crisp against your skin, a stark contrast to the warmth of the crowded reception. You inhale deeply, letting the coolness settle in your lungs, trying to still the racing thoughts in your head. The way Jungkook held you, the way his voice sounded, gentle and sincere.
You shake your head to clear it. This isn't new. You and Jungkook have always blurred the lines, dancing on the edge of something deeper without ever taking the plunge. He's your secret, your safe indulgence. But tonight...it's different.
You exhale, absentmindedly rubbing your hands over your arms as if that will do anything to settle the nervous energy buzzing beneath your skin. He said he'd get you a drink, and you wonder what's taking him so long. Maybe he got caught up in conversation with one of his friends or Namjoon's relatives, or maybe he's-
Your thoughts are cut off when you turn around and take a quick glance toward the marquee entrance, your stomach twisting. Jungkook stands near the bar, a glass of water in one hand, a flute of champagne in the other. But he's not alone.
Hana.
She leans in just a little too close, flashing that perfectly calculated smile of hers, the kind that makes your skin crawl. Her manicured fingers brush against his forearm as she laughs at something he said, which probably wasn't funny enough to warrant such a boisterous laugh.
You try to convince yourself it doesn't mean anything, that it's just Jungkook being Jungkook—too polite, too non-confrontational, too oblivious to the way women like Hana take an inch and twist it into a mile. But the longer you watch, the harder it gets to ignore the way she leans into him, the way she tucks a strand of hair behind her ear, the way she bats her lashes up at him. And the worst part is that he doesn't immediately pull away.
He doesn't flirt back. Surely not. But he doesn't shut her down either.
A bitter taste rises in your throat.
Maybe this is your fault. Maybe this is what happens when you pretend things don't matter when they do. When you are so incessant on keeping things casual, making sure nothing changes, that you take too long to acknowledge the truth staring right in your face.
Jungkook does mean something to you.
The idea of someone else wanting him makes something twist inside you, something hot and possessive and terrifyingly raw. You don’t even realize your fingers have curled into fists at your sides until Jungkook suddenly glances up, eyes sweeping the crowd as if searching for something. Or someone.
You.
The moment his gaze finds yours, something shifts. His expression softens, the corners of his lips turning up ever so slightly. Then, almost instinctively, he takes a step back from Hana, just enough to put space between them, to make his intentions clear.
Hana notices too. Her smile tightens as she follows his line of sight, her eyes narrowing when she spots you standing there. For a second, her lips part like she's about to say something, but Jungkook is already moving, leaving her behind without a second thought, heading straight for you.
Jungkook stops in front of you, holding out the flute of champagne with a faint smile. His eyes flicker over your face, searching, as if he can sense the storm brewing beneath your carefully crafted exterior.
"Thought I lost you for a second."
You force a small, hollow smile. "Well...you found me."
He studies you, eyes flickering across your face like he can see right through you. Maybe he can. So, you look away, pretending to sip your champagne even though your stomach is twisted in knots.
"Everything okay?" His voice is quiet, but it cuts through the noise in your head with ease.
You should say yes. Should flash him a smile, play it off like nothing's wrong, but the sight of Hana's hand on his arm is still burned into your mind, tangled up with memories you thought you buried long ago.
This isn't about Hana or Jungkook. It's about a different man who swore he loved you, who got down on one knee and asked you to spend forever with him, only to turn around and throw it all away.
Seven years.
You spent seven years with someone who once made you feel like the center of his world, until you weren't.
"You never made time for me."
Sunghoon's words had cut deeper than the betrayal itself, because in the end, he hadn't just broken your heart, he'd made you feel like it was your fault. Like if you had just been more for him, he wouldn't have strayed.
That is why you promised yourself that what you have with Jungkook is nothing more than convenience, that it doesn't matter if he ever falls for someone else, someone with fewer walls, someone who isn't afraid to love him the way he deserves. But standing here now, heart hammering in your chest as he watches you with quiet concern, you know with certainty that you've already broken that promise.
Jungkook stands before you, watching you with a quiet intensity. You know he's not Sunghoon, but that doesn't make it less terrifying.
You force a smile. "Yeah. Just needed some air, that's all."
Jungkook doesn't look convinced. His head tilts slightly, eyes narrowing. "You sure?"
You should deflect, should change the subject, but instead, the words slip out before you can stop them. "She likes you, you know."
Jungkook blinks, momentarily caught off guard. "Huh?"
You huff a quiet, humorless laugh, tilting your glass slightly in the direction Hana had been standing. "Hana."
Jungkook follows your gaze, then shakes his head with a scoff. "Hana likes attention."
You hum, taking a sip of champagne, but the uneasy feeling lingers. Not because you think he'd entertain her, but because you know there's nothing you can do if he ever decides to go for her instead. He's not your boyfriend. You made sure of that all by yourself.
"___, I hope you know that I'm not interested in her."
You weren't looking for reassurance, not really, but hearing him say it so plainly sends a warmth through your chest that you refuse to dwell on for too long.
You shrug, feigning indifference. "You don't have to explain yourself to me, Jungkook."
Jungkook scoffs, as if he expected the indifference. "Maybe not," he murmurs, looking over at you. "But I want to."
You let out a slow breath, trying to shake the weight of the moment, the way his words settle deep in your chest. When you glance at Jungkook, he's watching you, not with pity or expectation, just there, a steady presence.
So, you do what you always do when things get too real. You deflect.
"I don't know," you hum, tilting your head, playfully narrowing your eyes at him. "You seemed pretty into that conversation. Maybe I should let you get back to it."
Jungkook groans, tipping his head back dramatically. "Oh my God, stop."
You grin up at him. "What? I'm just saying, I don't wanna stand in the way."
"Please," he scoffs, rolling his eyes. "There's nothing to stand in the way of."
You hum, swirling the champagne in your glass. "I don't know, Jungkook. Hana's got great hair. Seems like a solid choice."
"You have great hair."
"She's pretty," you mutter, looking back at the marquee in the distance.
Jungkook scoffs. "You're gorgeous. Now what?"
You stare at him for a second, trying to fight the heat creeping up your neck. He's too good at this, throwing you off, slipping in little compliments like they mean nothing. But they mean everything and he knows it.
"You're so annoying," you murmur, taking a sip of your champagne.
Jungkook grins, shoving his hands in his pants pockets. "And yet, you keep me around."
You roll your eyes, but there's no real bite to it. "Unfortunately."
He chuckles, then nudges your arm lightly with his elbow. "C'mon, ___, admit it. You'd be lost without me."
You raise a brow. "Lost?"
"Hopeless," he teases with a shrug. "Completely, utterly hopeless."
You huff, feigning exasperation. "I survived just fine before you, y'know."
His expression softens, just a little.
"I know," he murmurs, quieter this time. "But I like it better this way."
Your fingers tighten around your glass, heart stuttering in your chest, because damn it, so do you.
A cool breeze sweeps past, and instinctively, you wrap your arms around yourself to keep warm. Jungkook notices immediately. Of course he does. Without a word, he shrugs off his suit jacket and drapes it over your shoulders, his movements fluid, effortless, like it's second nature to him.
You glance up at him with wide eyes. "Aren't you going to get cold?"
"I'll survive," he shrugs, completely unfazed.
You pull the jacket tighter around yourself, the warmth of it sinking into your skin, carrying his signature scent. "You didn't have to do that."
Jungkook gives you a look. "You know I was never going to let you stand out here freezing."
Your lips twitch. "A gentleman, huh?"
"What, you didn't think I had it in me?"
"I mean… I have seen you trip over your own feet in the hallway at work."
Jungkook groans, biting back a smile. "Okay, first of all, that was years ago. Second of all, that floor was slippery, the janitor just mopped it."
You laugh, shaking your head. "Sure it was."
Jungkook lets out an exaggerated sigh, shaking his head. "Unbelievable."
You grin, feeling lighter than you have all night. Maybe it's the warmth of his jacket, or the teasing glint in his eyes, or just the way that it's always been easy with him.
After a beat, Jungkook nudges your arm lightly. "You do look good in my jacket, though."
The comment is casual, offhanded, but there's something in his tone, something softer beneath the teasing that makes your stomach flip.
"Yeah?"
Jungkook hums, taking another sip of his water.
Your heart stumbles, but you roll your eyes, playing it cool. "Careful, Jeon. You almost sound like you're flirting with me."
"Would that be a bad thing?"
"Oh shush," you scoff, forcing down a smile.
The air feels different. The atmosphere is lighter, but charged with something else, something neither of you wants to name. Jungkook watches you, his gaze steady, thoughtful, like he's debating something in his head.
Another breeze sweeps past, and instinctively, you pull his jacket tighter around yourself. The movement makes him smile, just a little, like he finds it endearing. Then, without thinking, he reaches out. It's a small gesture, his fingers gently tugging at the lapel of his jacket, adjusting it over your shoulder, as if to make sure you're really warm enough. But the way he does it, the slow, deliberate movement, the way his fingers brush against your collarbone, sends a shiver down your spine that has nothing to do with the cold.
You glance up at him, your breath hitching. He's closer than you had realized. Close enough that you can see the way his lashes frame his dark eyes, the soft curve of his lips, the intensity in his gaze. Before you can say something about it, Jungkook moves.
Slowly.
Carefully.
Giving you everything opportunity to pull away.
He lifts a hand, fingers ghosting along your jaw, barely there, like he's afraid to break the moment. His gaze flickers to your lips, just for a second, and your breath catches in your throat.
And then he kisses you.
It's not urgent or demanding. It's careful. Considerate. Barely more than a brush of lips. It's a question, rather than a statement.
And God help you—you answer.
You let yourself sink into the feeling, let yourself feel the warmth of his lips, the steadiness of his hand on your cheek, the way everything else fades away when his lips touch yours.
It's over before you can even process it, before your mind can catch up with your heart. The night air feels cooler against your heated skin, and when you open your eyes, Jungkook is already watching you. His expression is unreadable, his breathing just the slightest bit uneven.
You swallow, your voice barely above a whisper. "What was that for?"
"I don't know," he murmurs. "Felt like the right thing to do."
It felt quite right to you too.
The rest of the evening passes in a haze of laughter and music. You make it back inside just in time for the bouquet toss, though, to your relief, you don't catch it. Taehyung looks mildly disappointed, teasing you about how he was hoping for some 'divine intervention' before Jihyo drags him away to dance.
Eventually, the celebration winds down, guests filtering out into the night. You find yourself outside again, rubbing your arms against the chill before Jungkook appears beside you, keys in hand.
"Ready to go home?" he asks, his voice low, warm.
You nod, walking back to the car.
The drive home is quiet but comfortable. Jungkook keeps one hand on the wheel, the other resting on the gear shift, fingers tapping absentmindedly. The streetlights cast golden streaks across his face, and every so often, you catch him glancing at you, like he wants to say something but keeps deciding against it.
When he pulls up in front of your apartment building, he shuts the engine off and looks over at you. It's silent, neither one of you making a move.
You hesitate for a second before reaching for the door handle. “Thanks for the ride-"
"Do you want me to walk you up?"
You meet his gaze, your heart racing. The weight of everything that happened tonight lingers between the two of you, something unspoken pressing at the edges.
"Yeah," you murmur. "I'd like that."
The elevator ride up is quiet, your pulse quickening with every passing second. When you reach your door, you fumble briefly with your keys before finally pushing it open, stepping inside. "You wanna come in for a bit?"
Jungkook leans against the doorframe, watching you. And then, after a beat, he nods and steps inside.
And just like that, you're alone together, away from the noise, away from the watchful eyes of friends and wedding guests, away from every excuse you could possibly use to avoid this moment.
You go to check on Miso, giving her some water and a treat, gently stroking her fur. She welcomes you home with a sleepy 'meow' before laying back down on her little bed in the corner of the living room. Jungkook stands in your dimly lit living room, his hands tucked into the pockets of his pants, watching you tend to Miso with an expression you can't quite decipher. There's something softer in his gaze, something almost reverent.
You swallow, suddenly hyper-aware of the way your heart is pounding. "Do you want something to drink?"
He shakes his head, lips tilting into a faint smirk. "No." He steps closer, gaze flickering over your face, then down to where his suit jacket hangs off your shoulders. "You gonna keep that?"
You clutch at the lapels instinctively. "I might."
His smirk widens. "Looks good on you."
You don’t know who moves first. Maybe it's him, maybe it's you. All you know is that one second, there's space between you, and the next, he's cupping your cheek, his thumb brushing over your skin, his lips on yours in a slow, soft kiss. It's not driven by impulse or the heat of the moment, and when Jungkook sighs against your lips, and pulls your waist closer to him, you have to break the kiss to catch your breath and steady your heartbeat.
"Do you...wanna help me out of this dress?" Your voice is almost too quiet to hear, but the smile on his face lets you know he heard you.
"It would be my pleasure," he murmurs softly, pressing a gentle kiss to the corner of your mouth.
It's as if time slows down as you lead him to your bedroom, shutting the door behind you. The dim glow from the city outside casts soft shadows across his face, highlighting the sharp angles of his jaw, the warmth in his dark eyes. And then, without another word, he leans in and kisses your lips. His hands slide up to cup your face, tilting your head just how he wants it.
You sigh against his mouth, your fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt, holding him close.
His lips move down, trailing soft kisses along your jaw, down to the sensitive spot just below your ear. You shiver, and he feels it, his smile evident against your skin.
"Still cold?" he murmurs, his breath warm against your neck.
You shake your head. "No."
Jungkook chuckles, pulling back just enough to meet your eyes. His hands slide down, fingertips brushing along the suit jacket around your shoulders. "Can I?"
You nod, letting him remove the jacket before his fingers find the zipper of your dress, dragging it down excruciatingly slowly. The fabric loosens, slipping down your frame, pooling at your feet in a whisper of silk.
He exhales sharply, eyes darkening as he drinks you in, your body wrapped in nothing but scraps of lace.
"God," he breathes out, subtly shaking his head. "You're..."
You look up at him with a soft smile. "I'm…?"
Jungkook chuckles, but it's low, almost breathless. "You know what you are."
"Say it anyway," you whisper.
His fingers brush against your jaw, tilting your face up to his. "So...so beautiful."
And then he kisses you again.
It's slow, deliberate, like he's savoring every second, every soft sigh that escapes you. His hands find your waist, pulling you flush against him, and you shiver at the feeling of his body pressed against yours.
Your fingers loosen his bow tie, then move onto the buttons of his dress shirt, opening them one by one. Jungkook watches you through hooded eyes, sighing as your lips move over his cheek, the corner of his mouth, his jaw. You push his shirt off shoulders, letting it drop to the floor, your lips moving down to his chest.
He gently slides his fingers into your hair and tilts your head back, kissing you once more. He sighs against your lips, his hands sliding down your sides to rest at your waist, his thumbs drawing slow circles against your skin. The feeling is intoxicating, he is intoxicating. The warmth of his body, the weight of his hands, the way he kisses you like he has all the time in the world.
You melt into him, your fingers splaying over his bare chest, feeling the steady rise and fall of his breath beneath your palms. His lips move against yours in a way that makes your head spin, slow and deep and hypnotic.
Jungkook keeps his lips attached to yours as he leads you backwards towards your bed, gently laying you down on the mattress, his hands holding him up to hover over you. He trails kisses down the side of your neck, sucking on a few sensitive spots before reaching behind you, his hands sliding over the fabric of your bra.
"Can I?"
You nod, cupping his cheeks to pull him back in, needing him the same way you need air to breathe.
He unclasps your bra and slowly slides the lace down your shoulders, tossing it somewhere in your room for you to find tomorrow. He trails his kisses down to your collarbones and chest, his lips grazing the skin of your breasts.
"You're so beautiful," he whispers, more to himself than to you.
You sigh, your fingers sliding into his hair as he swirls his tongue around a nipple, wrapping his lips around it to suck. He does the same thing to the other nipple, his lips pressing tender kisses to your breasts.
He kisses down your stomach, smiling against your skin as you spread your legs for him, your sighs growing needier.
He lets his fingers trail up your inner thighs, making their way up to your hips, pulling the soft lace away from your skin. He looks up at you, his eyes meeting yours, his fingers toying with the sides of your panties.
"Can I take these off?" he asks softly, pressing a gentle kiss right above the waistband, smiling as you whimper a breathy 'yes'.
He sits up and hooks a finger into either side of your panties, slowly dragging the fabric down your legs. His gaze is soft and appreciative as he takes in the sight of you bare and spread out for him.
His eyes move from your core to your face, his tongue peeking out to lick his lips as he looks into your eyes. He slowly trails a hand up your inner thigh, his fingers trailing through your wet folds. "God, you're so pretty," he sighs, his cock twitching in his pants.
You let out a soft gasp as he leans down to press a few feather-light kisses to your folds, the streetlights shining through the blinds, reflecting in his brown eyes.
He presses a kiss to your clit, his tongue peeking out to get a taste, and it's as if a switch goes off in his brain, his hands gripping your thighs to hold them open as his tongue traces along your pussy.
You moan, your back arching off the bed as he licks a wide stripe from your entrance to your clit, swirling his tongue to turn you into a moaning mess. You reach down to grab hold of his hair, not to tug, just to ground yourself. Your legs spread wider as he wraps his lips around your clit, sucking gently before going back to long, determined licks.
"That feels...so good," you breathe out, glancing down at him to find his eyes on you, looking at you like he wants to make the most of this moment, the passion evident in his gaze.
He lets out a soft moan against you, his tongue and lips working in perfect rhythm to pleasure you. He can't get enough of your taste, looking like he's in a state of ecstasy. He can feel you trembling beneath his hands, your body responding to every lick and nibble.
He worships you with his mouth, taking his time, his tongue moving in circles, his hands holding you in place against his mouth. He can’t keep himself from grinding against the bed, feeling like he might explode from his pent up desire.
"Just like that," you moan, your body writhing beneath him, your back arching. "D-Don't stop..."
He can practically feel how close you are to your climax and it only spurs him on. His tongue laps through your folds before focusing solely on your clit, his fingers digging into your skin as he holds your thighs over his shoulders, preventing you from pulling away.
You hold his head in place, your muscles trembling, your moans growing louder as you get closer to the edge.
You gasp, your walls contracting repeatedly, your eyes squeezing shut as the pleasure starts to consume you whole. "'m gonna cum...!"
He keeps his pace, pushing your knees up to your chest to give him better access.
In a matter of seconds, your muscles completely tense up as you cum on his tongue, your moans bouncing off of your bedroom walls. He continues to slowly lick and kiss your clit until you can't take anymore.
His lips trail a slow path up your body, leaving a searing warmth in their wake. His breath is hot against your collarbone, his nose brushing against the side of your jaw before finally capturing your lips in a deep, unhurried kiss, letting you taste yourself on his tongue.
"You taste like heaven," he whispers against your lips.
A bashful smile finds its way onto your face, your cheeks flushed. Your breath is still shaky, your body thrumming with heat as he kisses you. Your fingers weave into his hair, tugging him closer, needing more. You can still feel the remnants of your high, but it's not enough.
Your hands trail down his body to start unbuttoning his pants. "Let me return the favour," you whisper in his ear, slowly pulling down his zipper.
He groans as your hand slides into the front of his boxers, gently massaging his cock, his body shuddering. His eyes close involuntarily at the feeling of your hand on him, his brain short-circuiting.
Jungkook catches your wrist before you can go any further. His grip is gentle, his dark eyes locking onto yours with something deep and unspoken. He shakes his head, a small, almost nervous smile playing at his lips.
"Not tonight."
You furrow your eyebrows in confusion. "Why not?"
Jungkook exhales slowly, his thumb brushing over the inside of your wrist. His gaze softens even more, and when he speaks, his voice is quieter, almost shy.
"Because I want to make love to you, ___."
Your breath catches in your chest. He wants to make love. The two of you have never done that before. You've never allowed it. You should correct him. You should remind him of the rules, of the boundaries you set.
But when he looks at you like that, with his heart in his eyes, the words die in your throat.
Your voice is a fragile whisper, your heart beating in your ears. "Okay."
He drags the tip of his nose along your cheek, lips brushing over your skin. "Are you sure?"
You nod, breathless.
"Need to hear you say it, baby."
The endearment sends heat through your body.
"I'm sure."
He kisses your lips for the hundredth time, pouring all of his feelings into you, like he's been waiting for this moment for far too long.
You help him out of his pants and boxers, letting out a soft giggle when his foot almost gets caught in the pant leg, his body moving before his brain can process what's happening.
He sits back to get a full view of your body laid out for him, his eyes trailing from your face, down to your breasts, and lastly, your sopping pussy. He groans as he wraps his hand around his cock, giving it some slow strokes, his fist squeezing harshly. The tip has already started leaking a pearl of precum, the shaft already fully erect.
He hovers over you, his lips curling against your skin as he reaches down, guiding the head to your entrance. He pushes in slowly, filling you inch by inch, stretching you in the most delicious way.
Sinking into you feels like coming home.
Jungkook's face twists in pleasure, his breath ragged, his bottom lip caught between his teeth. He holds himself up on his forearm while his free hand slides down your body to hook your leg around his hip.
He groans, his forehead falling to your shoulder. "Fuck, you feel so good," he breathes.
You slide your hands around him to hold onto his back, pulling him closer, needing him as close as possible.
The sound of your moans send shivers down his spine. He moves slowly, deeply, his hips rolling into your with deliberate, passionate strokes, sending fire up your spine. His fingers dig into the skin of your thigh, letting out a breathless whimper as he sinks in as deep as he can possibly go.
Your breath stutters, your fingers clutching at his back, feeling his muscles contract under his skin.
Jungkook kisses the junction between your neck and shoulder, his hips rolling at a practiced, steady pace. "You take me so well, baby...this pussy feels so good wrapped around me..." His voice is low, breathy. "You're so fucking perfect."
Your nails dig into his skin, your eyes squeezing shut as your emotions start welling up, a harsh lump growing in your throat.
Jungkook lifts his head, cupping your face, his eyes dark and tender as they search yours. "Look at me, ___."
You do, and it almost steals the air from your lungs, his eyes boring into yours, showing you all the feelings he's harboured for you since the day he met you.
Your hands slide up to cup his jaw, pulling his face closer. "Jungkook…"
"I know, baby," he whispers, pressing soft, tender pecks to your lips, his hips rolling with a fierce intensity. "I've got you. Always."
He presses his lips to your cheek, then your nose, then your forehead. "You're everything, ___."
The lump in your throat grows heavier, but you force it down, willing yourself not to break down completely. Instead, you wrap your arms around his neck and allow yourself to get lost in him, giving yourself over to him in a way you never have before.
You want to tell him you love him.
Those three words sit heavily on your tongue, but you can't get yourself to say them. Not now, when your emotions are this high, when you're still trembling beneath him.
It's too real, and if it's real, it has the power to ruin you.
You show him with your body instead of your words, looking up into his eyes, pulling him impossibly close. Your fingers tangle in his hair, your lips seeking his in a slow, lingering kiss. You pour everything into it, every unspoken word, every confession you long to make.
Jungkook kisses you back just as deeply, his hands framing your face, his touch gentle, like he already knows. Like he's willing to wait.
His thrusts grow sloppier as the pleasure builds. Your hands grip his shoulders, your chest heaving, every thrust of his hips pushing you closer to cumming. His cock throbs inside you, but he's determined to make you cum before he does.
"Come on," Jungkook whispers against your lips, his voice thick with lust. "Let go for me, baby. You can do it. I'm...I'm right here."
His words send a shiver down your spine, feeling the familiar coil start to tighten in your stomach.
"I...I can't..." you gasp, the intensity of it feeling overwhelming.
"Yes, you can, sweetheart," he murmurs, his voice low and soothing. "Let it happen. I've got you, baby, I promise."
The pressure inside you finally bursts, and you're lost in the feeling of it, consumed by the overwhelming pleasure of it all. With a soft, breathless cry, your body finally gives in, your climax surging through you in waves, your entire body trembling as you cling to him.
Jungkook isn't far behind. He groans low in his chest, his cum painting your walls in thick white ropes, his face buried into the crook of your neck as he rides out his high.
He presses a soft kiss to your skin, his breath shallow. "I'm not going anywhere," he murmurs against your neck, his arms wrapping around you in a comforting embrace.
Your body shakes from the aftermath, your heart pounding in your chest, but for the first time in a long time, you don't feel empty. You don't feel alone. You just feel him all around you; all consuming.
He reluctantly parts from you to freshen up in the bathroom, coming back with a warm, wet washcloth to clean you off, making sure you're fully taken care of before making his way back to bed.
The room grows quiet, save for the soft hum of the city outside and the sound of your slowed, steady breathing. The warmth of Jungkook's body lingers between your sheets, his arm draped across your waist as he holds you close, his fingers tracing absentminded patterns against your stomach.
Neither of you speaks for a while, simply existing in the comfort of each other's presence. Your legs are tangled beneath the sheets, your bare skin still pressed together, and there's an intimacy in it that feels deeper than anything words could convey.
Jungkook sighs, shifting slightly to press a lazy kiss to your shoulder. "Are you okay?" His voice is softer now, like he's afraid of breaking whatever fragile thing hangs between you.
You nod against the pillow, your fingers grazing along the length of his arm. "I'm okay."
He hums in contentment, pulling you even closer, his lips brushing against your temple. "Good."
You should probably say more, clarify what tonight was, what it meant, but you can't bring yourself to speak. You simply close your eyes and let yourself melt into his warmth as he spoons you.
Jungkook shifts, resting his chin atop your head, his voice thick with sleep when he murmurs, "Stay here."
You scoff faintly. "I live here."
He chuckles, his chest vibrating against your back. "You know what I mean."
Your fingers find his, lacing together beneath the sheets, and as sleep starts to pull you under, you feel the softest brush of his lips against your hair.
"Goodnight, baby..."
Before you can think twice about how un-casual all of this is, before you can let yourself spiral, you whisper back, "Goodnight, Jungkook."
You wake up tangled in soft sheets and him, his arm draped over your waist, his breath steady against the nape of your neck. The early light filters through your window, casting a golden glow over the room.
For a while, you don't move. You just listen to the birds chirping outside and the steady rhythm of his breathing. Then, as if sensing you're awake, Jungkook stirs. His arm tightens around you, his lips brushing lazily against your bare shoulder.
"Morning," he murmurs, his voice thick with sleep.
You smile, stretching your limbs. "Morning."
He hums, nuzzling into your skin, his voice muffled. "What time is it?"
You glance at the alarm clock on your nightstand. "Almost nine."
Jungkook groans dramatically, tightening his hold on you. "Too early."
You laugh, trying—and failing—to wiggle away. "It's not that early."
"It is." His grip loosens just enough for you to turn and face him. His hair is a mess, his eyes still heavy with sleep, but he looks at you like you're the most interesting thing in the world.
"You're staring," you point out, raising an eyebrow.
Jungkook smiles sleepily. "Can you blame me?"
Your face heats, and you roll your eyes. "Shut up."
He grins, reaching out to tuck a stray strand of hair behind your ear. "Never."
The warmth between you lingers as you stay in bed a little longer, exchanging lazy kisses, stealing moments that feel dangerously intimate. It's only when your stomach growls loudly that Jungkook finally pulls away, letting out a huff of laughter.
"Is that your way of asking for breakfast in bed?" he teases.
"I wish," you mumble. "Unfortunately, my fridge is basically empty. I was supposed to go grocery shopping today."
Jungkook sits up, stretching his arms over his head before leaning back on his hands, the sheets pooling around his waist. "Then let's go grocery shopping."
You blink up at him. "You want to come with me to the grocery store?"
"Of course," he shrugs, grinning. "What kind of man would I be if I let you carry all those bags by yourself?"
Is going grocery shopping something you should do together if you want to maintain anything remnants of boundaries? Probably not.
"What would you even wear? A tux?" you chuckle.
"I may or may not have a change of clothes in my trunk," he mumbles, giving you an almost guilty grin. "Y'know, just in case I end up spending the night at your place."
Oh well.
You laugh, shaking your head. "Fine. But you're driving."
The grocery store is surprisingly busy for a late Sunday morning, but Jungkook keeps your mood up. You watch, amused, as he inspects the produce with an intensity that makes it seem like he's solving a crime. He picks up a bell pepper and turns it over in his hands, then glances over at you.
"This is a good one," he declares.
You snort. "Oh, are you an expert?"
Jungkook nods solemnly. "Of course. I have a very refined eye for vegetables."
You shake your head, taking the pepper from him and tossing it into the cart. "Okay, vegetable connoisseur. What about fruit?"
His expression turns serious. "The fruit requires even greater precision." He steps toward the apples, picking one up and holding it to the light like a jeweler inspecting a diamond.
You bite your lip, trying not to laugh. "And? What's the verdict?"
He nods once. "Acceptable."
You chuckle as you grab a few more apples and place them in a bag. "You're ridiculous."
"Ridiculously helpful you mean,” he corrects, grinning.
It's easy, this whole thing. You browse the aisles while be pushes the cart, occasionally sneaking snacks into it when you're not looking. You catch him dropping a bag of chips in and you raise an eyebrow.
"I need those?"
"Absolutely," he nods, not missing a beat.
You roll your eyes but let him put the bag in the cart. It's for him, but you'll buy it as a way to have something that belongs to him in your apartment.
"Shit, I forgot to get my cereal," you sigh, already on the other side of the store. "Can you go and get it, please? It's in aisle six."
"Sure," he nods, handing you the cart.
"Thank you," you smile, watching him walk off.
You're still smiling when you turn the corner, your heart light from the previous few hours with Jungkook. Then a voice pulls you out of your little love bubble.
"Oh my god, ___?"
You barely have time to react before you're being pulled into a hug, the nostalgic scent of her floral perfume washing over you.
"Sian?" you gasp in surprise, pulling back to get a better look at your old high school friend.
"It's been forever!" she exclaims, her eyes wide as she takes you in. "I almost didn't recognize you, it's been so long. Look at you! You look good!”
You laugh, nodding along. "I could say the same about you. How have you been?"
"I'm doing well," she smiles, resting her hand on her hip. "I recently landed this great job at a new law firm. What about you?"
"I'm a professor at Yonsei University. I teach political science."
"I guess we're really grown ups now," she laughs.
You chuckle along, feeling the truth in her words. "How are things with Minho?"
Her smile falters for a fraction of a second, waving a dismissive hand. "Oh, Minho and I broke up. Turns out he's just like every other guy," she scoffs, "Couldn't keep it in his pants."
Your stomach twists. "Oh, Sian....I'm so sorry."
She sighs, crossing her arms. "Don't be. Honestly, I should've seen it coming. I guess all men are the same in the end, aren't they?"
The words hit you like a punch to the gut.
You don't know what to say, so you offer a small, noncommittal hum.
Sian doesn't seem to notice your discomfort. She keeps going, rolling her eyes. "It's whatever. At least I found out before we got engaged. We were close to it but I guess I dodged a bullet."
Then, almost as an afterthought, she adds, "Speaking of which, have you heard? Apparently Sunghoon got married a few months ago."
The words hit you like a slap to the face. Your chest tightens, and for a moment, you forget how to breathe.
Sian doesn't notice. She keeps talking, oblivious to the way your body has suddenly gone rigid.
"Yeah, crazy, right? I heard his wife is pregnant, too. Due in a few months, I think." She shakes her head. "Guess he finally got his act together. Good for them, I suppose."
Your fingers tighten around the shopping cart.
Your ex-fiancé, the man who cheated on you and then blamed you for it, is married. He has a wife. A baby on the way. And yet, here you are, still hesitating, still doubting.
He cheated on you. But he's faithful to her. Was it you? Were you the problem all along?
You force a small laugh at something Sian says, nodding absentmindedly, but your mind has already started spiraling.
Jungkook returns just as you wrap up your conversation, a box of your favourite cereal in hand. He gives Sian a polite nod before turning to you, grinning.
"Miss me?" he teases, but the moment he sees your face, his smile falters. "Hey...what's wrong?"
You shake your head, forcing a tight-lipped smile. "Nothing. Just caught up with an old friend."
Jungkook doesn't buy it. His gaze searches yours, his brows furrowing. "You sure? You seem-"
"I said it's nothing, Jungkook," you snap before you can stop yourself, feeling guilty almost instantly.
His lips press together, the hurt flickering across his face so quickly you almost miss it.
He doesn’t push. He never does. He just nods slowly, letting the silence settle between you like an invisible wall.
"We should go," you mutter softly, already turning the cart toward the checkout without looking back.
The drive home is silent.
Jungkook doesn't say anything, but you feel his eyes flicking over at you every so often, like he's waiting for you to speak. To tell him what's wrong.
You don't.
Your thoughts have started racing and they just won't stop. You think about your past, about the seven years you wasted on a man who made you believe you weren't enough for him to remain faithful. And now he has a wife. A baby on the way. A family.
And here you are, falling into the same pattern.
Falling for Jungkook.
He's not Sunghoon, you know that, but what happens when he gets tired of waiting for you to let him in? What happens when you eventually realize you can't give him what he deserves?
It would be easier to end it now.
Before either of you get hurt.
Before you lose yourself in him completely.
The silence stretches on when you get back to your apartment. Jungkook carefully sets the grocery bags on the counter, his movements slow and calculated. He glances at you, his brows knitting together in quiet concern, but he still doesn't push, not yet.
Instead, he tries a softer approach.
"Hey." His voice is gentle, coaxing. "Wanna help me put these away?"
You should. You should do something, say something, but you can't bring yourself to move. Your arms stay crossed over your chest, your body stiff, your mind in a haze.
Jungkook watches you for a moment before sighing lightly. "Alright then," he murmurs, unpacking the bags himself.
The tension is unbearable.
He packs your groceries away, waiting for you to speak. When the silence becomes too much for him, he takes the plunge.
Jungkook exhales slowly. "___."
Your stomach tightens at the sound of your name on his lips.
"Talk to me." His voice is gentle, patient. "Please."
"There's nothing to talk about." Your voice is flat.
Jungkook tilts his head, studying you carefully. "Really? Because you've been completely silent since we left the store, barely looked at me, haven't said a word." He pauses. "That doesn't seem like nothing to me."
You press your lips together, shifting on your feet. "I just have a lot on my mind."
"Okay." He nods slowly. "Then tell me and maybe I can help-"
You sigh. "Jungkook, just drop it."
He pauses.
"I just..." He pauses, looking for the right words to say. "I can tell you're upset and...I don't like seeing you like this."
The weight of his concern presses down on your chest, suffocating. You can't do this right now.
"I said I'm fine." Your voice comes out sharper than intended.
Jungkook lets out a short, humorless laugh. "You always say that."
"Why do you even care so much?"
The words hit him like a slap.
Jungkook blinks at you, taken aback by your sudden hostility. But then, something shifts in his expression, his heart physically breaking in his chest. His hands clench at his sides as he exhales through his nose.
And then, in a voice so quiet it almost doesn't reach you—
"Because I love you."
Your heart stops. Your breath stutters. Your pulse pounds violently in your ears.
Jungkook swallows, stepping closer, his gaze never leaving yours, practicing laying his entire soul at your feet. His eyes are glossy, his voice thick. "I love you, ___."
It's not loud. Not dramatic. Just honest.
And it terrifies you.
Jungkook takes a step closer, his eyes burning into yours. "I have loved you for such a long time...and I don't care if you try to push me away, or if you pretend like this is just sex, or if you act like what we have isn't real.” His voice wavers slightly, but his gaze doesn't. "Because I know it is."
Your heart pounds violently against your ribs.
You want to believe him. But the ugly, gnawing voice in your head tells you it's only a matter of time before he realizes you're not enough.
"You don’t love me," you whisper, your eyes stinging with unshed tears. "You think you do, but you don't."
His brows draw together, his face crumpling. "How can you say that?"
You swallow, blinking back the tears in your eyes. "Because you don't even know me, Jungkook."
His face twists, letting out a bitter scoff. "That's bullshit."
"Is it?" You laugh, but it's hollow and humourless. "You only know the parts of me I let you see! The nice parts. The parts that don't scare you away." Your voice wavers. "But the rest? The ugly, damaged parts? You don't know those. That's the real me, Jungkook. You don't love her."
Jungkook’s chest rises and falls unevenly.
"Then let me. Let me know you...all of you. Let me love the good parts and the bad and everything in between. Let me love you when you're messy and broken, and on the days when you feel like you can't get out of bed. Fuck, I wanna be with you, ___. I want all of you, not just the good parts. I want the pointless fights and the makeup sex after. I want the grocery runs when we run out of your favourite cereal. I wanna drive to work in the same car and then come home and have dinner together. I wanna slow dance with you in the middle of the night in the kitchen with the refrigerator light shining over us. I wanna cuddle and hold your hand in public and tell everyone that you're my girlfriend, because for fuck's sake, ___, I love you."
He's almost breathless by the time he gets it all out.
"Please...give me the chance to love you...please."
His words leave you utterly and completely speechless. You want to allow yourself to be loved by him, but your brain won't allow you to. The thought of experiencing all of that with him and then having it inevitably ripped away is what stops you from telling him you love him too.
"Jungkook...I can't...."
"Why not?"
Because you're terrified. Because Sunghoon made the same promises and still broke them. Because you know that once Jungkook sees the worst of you, he'll leave and it'll hurt, probably worse than it did with Sunghoon.
"I just can't, okay?!" Your voice grows softer. "I can't. You'll regret it."
Jungkook exhales sharply, raking a hand through his hair. "God, why won't you let yourself be loved?"
You've asked yourself that question about a million times before.
Your hands tremble at your sides, your eyes burning, your body screaming at you to run. Then you do the only thing you know how to. You push him away and hurt him before he can hurt you.
"This was never supposed to be anything more than sex," you whisper.
Jungkook stills.
"That's all this ever was, Jungkook."
Jungkook lets out a shaky scoff, but his voice cracks. "You don't mean that."
"I do." You force the words out, your voice shaking.
"Tell me you don't love me back." He lifts his gaze to meet yours, and your breath stutters at the sheer heartbreak in his eyes. "Tell me you feel nothing for me. That this," he gestures between you, "Was never more than just sex to you."
The words are on the tip of your tongue.
Tell him.
Make it easier for him to walk away.
But the truth is lodged so deep in your throat, it physically hurts. And Jungkook sees it.
His face hardens, his jaw clenching. "That's what I thought."
You have no defence, so all you can do is resort back to shutting him out. Literally.
"Just go, Jungkook. It'll just be better for both of us in the long run."
"So that's it? You're just gonna throw this all away?"
You don't respond, looking down at the ground.
His face remains strong, even as the tears begin to fall down his cheeks, and you know you're not strong enough to look at him.
He nods in resignation and silently takes a step back, his sadness written across his face. Then another step. And then he turns to get his phone and his keys and walk to the front door.
Your chest constricts. You should say something. Stop him. Tell him the truth.
But you don't. It'll just be easier this way.
It has to be.
Jungkook turns his head to look back at you, his hand on the door handle, waiting for you to stop him and tell him that you love him. But you don't.
His lips start to part, like he wants to argue, like he wants to fight for you. But he doesn't. He doesn't have it in him anymore.
"I hope one day you'll be able to love yourself the way I love you."
He walks out without another glance back, the door shutting behind him. The second he's gone, you shatter.
It's like your body has locked up, frozen in place as the weight of everything crashes down all at once. Your breath shudders, coming in uneven gasps, your chest rising and falling in jagged movements.
And then, your knees buckle. You sink to the floor, pressing the heels of your hands against your eyes, as if that will somehow stop the flood of tears spilling down your cheeks.
Jungkook is gone.
You did this. You pushed him away. That's what you do. You get in your head and sabotage everything good in your life.
A sob rips through you, your shoulders shaking as you fold in on yourself. You don't know how long you stay like that, curled up on the floor, drowning in your own sorrow. Time feels meaningless when all you can hear is Jungkook's voice echoing in your head, over and over again.
He looked so wounded when he told you he loved you. So open and vulnerable. And what did you do? You shut him out. You let your own fear win. Because that's all you are now, a shell of the person you used to be. Afraid and untrusting.
Sunghoon made sure of that.
The memory of him slams into you with brutal force. His voice, his touch, the way he used to hold you at night and tell you he loved you, promising you a lifetime, only to go and stick his dick in another woman.
"I had no choice, ___. You were never around. You put everything and everyone before me."
"I needed someone who actually made me feel like a man."
"You did this to us."
His words haunt you. They never stopped haunting you, no matter how hard you try to run from them. And now, as you sit here, crying on your kitchen floor, you realize that you've been running ever since.
Every step you've taken since that night you caught him has been in fear of being that girl again. The one who gives too much of herself, the one who isn't enough, the one who ends up getting traded in.
That voice in your head tells you that Jungkook would do the same, eventually.
Maybe not today.
Maybe not tomorrow.
But one day.
One day, he'd wake up and realize you aren't worth it.
You thought that if you ended it before he got the chance to see how damaged you really are, that would make it hurt less. And yet, the look on his face will forever be engraved in your brain, taunting you, reminding you of the pain you've caused him.
The sobs come harder, your entire body shaking until you can barely breathe. You press your forehead to your knees, squeezing your eyes shut.
And then you feel it, a soft nudge against your leg.
You glance down to see Miso weaving between your ankles, her big eyes looking up at you with confusion and concern. She meows softly, rubbing her head against your shin, as if she can sense that something is wrong.
A broken sob escapes your lips as you scoop her up into your arms. She doesn’t resist, only tucks herself into your chest, her purring serving as a soothing vibration against your skin.
You bury your face into her fur, fresh tears spilling over. "I'm okay, baby," you whisper, though your voice cracks with the weight of the lie. She just stays curled against you, warm and steady, like she's determined to absorb every ounce of your sadness.
You carry her to the couch, curling up with her in your lap, absentmindedly running your fingers through her soft fur. The apartment still smells like Jungkook, his cologne, his warmth, and it only makes the ache in your chest worse.
You don't know how to fix this. You don't even know if you can. But one thing is painfully, devastatingly clear.
> synopsis: 7 years ago Y/N broke Jungkook’s heart when she decided to end their relationship without an explanation. When they meet again at a friend's wedding, after almost a decade, Jungkook needs answers to move on.
*french writer, i apologize in advance for my awful english!
Jungkook stared at Jimin’s message for a while before locking his phone the moment he heard you move. He placed his phone on the nightstand and turned his attention to you, propping himself up on his elbow. You’re going to hate him. He just got you back, and he’s terrified you might slip through his fingers again.
He knows what he did is wrong, that Hina is waiting for him. But he can’t help but wonder where you two could be or what you could become. Your story wasn’t over when you broke up with him, and now that he knows the reason, he wants you even more.
“What are you looking at?” you mumble, burying your face in the pillow. Jungkook chuckles softly.
“Are you hungry?” he asks, and you shake your head. “How do you feel?”
“Like a truck hit me,” you groan, your hand blindly patting the bed, searching for his touch. He smiles, knowing exactly what you're doing.
His fingers find yours as you pull both hands against your chest. He knows he has to learn all about you again, the woman you’ve become. Jungkook leans closer, brushing the messy strands of your bangs away from your forehead.
“What do you want to do?”
“Die,” you mumble, making him chuckle. “Sorry... about last night.”
Jungkook tilts his head curiously as you sigh and lift your eyes to meet his.
“When... I tried to ruin everything with sex,” you confess, swallowing hard. His eyes soften at your words.
“It’s okay,” he whispers, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
“Can we... just stay like this for an hour or two before going out?” you ask, clearly embarrassed, like a child requesting something timidly.
He closes the distance between your bodies, wrapping his free arm around you and kissing the top of your head.
“Anything you want, Nabi,” he murmurs against your hair as you relax.
His fingertips trace the curve of your spine softly while your hands find their way under his shirt to caress the skin of his back. It’s something you used to do when you were a couple, and Jungkook feels content.
He doesn’t want to think about the mess he’s in, or about his fiancée. Right now, he just wants to stay with you—forever, if possible. He hopes you want the same.
“Are you still up for that date?” Jungkook asks, watching as you lift your head to meet his eyes.
“Pay me,” you joke, your face deadpan.
“How much?” he plays along, freezing when you close the distance and kiss him softly.
Jungkook cups your face, deepening the kiss just a little. He doesn’t want to go further; he just wants to feel you.
“Fuck, Nabi,” he whispers, brushing his lips against yours, his eyes still closed. “I need an extra pillow now.”
“What?” you chuckle, confused, as he grabs a small pillow and places it between your bodies near his crotch. “You’re getting hard from a kiss?”
“I always get hard when it’s you,” he groans, embarrassed by his body’s lack of control.
Before you can tease him, he’s kissing you again, mostly to shut you up but also because he can’t resist. You let out a slight moan that makes his situation worse, but he pushes his dirty thoughts aside and focuses on enjoying the moment. His body has always reacted to you. He realized this when you sat on his lap at sixteen, and he had to hold his breath.
Jungkook spends the morning watching you walk around the hotel room—first to wash your face, then to grab your clothes. Even when you scold him for staring, he just grins. On your way to your father’s apartment, his hand reaches for yours while he drives. He needs to touch you, too scared that this might all be a dream.
Your father is the first to make fun of you when he sees you step inside, still wearing Jungkook’s clothes. Jungkook smirks as you head to your room to take a shower and get ready for your date. He sits next to your dad on the couch, extending his hand as your father groans and reluctantly hands over some cash.
“You should be ashamed, taking advantage of your in-law,” your father grumbles, and Jungkook smirks.
“You’re the one who loves to bet,” he says playfully.
“Sometimes I forget how competitive you are, kid,” the older man says, shaking his head in amusement.
“I always win,” Jungkook replies with a grin. “And this time’s no different,” he adds, glancing at the bathroom door.
Your father studies Jungkook's profile for a moment before sighing with a fond smile.
“Thank you,” he says unexpectedly.
“For what?” Jungkook asks, surprised, turning to face him.
“Always when it’s about her,” your father replies, patting Jungkook’s arm affectionately. “But I’m serious. You know how much I love her. I’d never let any man get close if I wasn’t sure his intentions were good.”
“She’s twenty-seven,” Jungkook reminds him with a soft smile.
“She’ll always be four years old to me,” your dad retorts, and Jungkook nods, understanding.
Jungkook wonders if he’ll see his future daughter the way your father sees you: his little girl, no matter how old she gets. Or if he’ll even have a daughter one day.
“I know you’re a good guy. I’ve seen you two grow up together. If it were up to me, I’d have married her off to you a long time ago.”
“Argh, stop, I’m blushing,” Jungkook laughs, still watching your father. “Too bad fathers can’t decide that stuff anymore,” he jokes, and your dad smiles.
“Even if I could, she’d beat both our asses if we tried,” your father chuckles, and Jungkook agrees.
Jungkook knows your father was—and still is—your biggest supporter in your relationship. When Jungkook was younger, he thought his future girlfriend’s father would be an overprotective bear who would make his life difficult. But your dad was different. From the moment they met, your father treated Jungkook like his own son, teaching him how to fight, letting him stay at his apartment when he needed, and even after you two broke up, Jungkook would still visit your father whenever he was in town, always bringing a bottle of sake.
“I’m going to win her back,” Jungkook whispers as he hears the shower stop.
Your father’s lips stretch into a soft smile before he turns his attention back to the TV. It doesn’t take long before you appear, dressed warmly for the cold November weather. Jungkook can’t help but smile. He remembers how nervous you were on your first date, spending hours picking out the perfect outfit and styling your hair.
“I’m ready,” you say, pulling the hood of your sweatshirt over your head and shoving your hands in your pockets.
He loves how comfortable you’ve become, casually dressed for what feels like a second-first date. Jungkook stands up, waving at your father as he joins you.
“I’ll be back before eight,” you say. Your father nods and hums softly as you turn away, Jungkook placing a hand on the small of your back as he follows you out.
After stopping at a convenience store for snacks and a fast-food market, Jungkook parks the car in the familiar spot you used to visit together. He refuses to let you carry any of the bags, which frustrates you. When you reach the shore, you immediately kick off your shoes to feel the sand beneath your feet.
“I’ll spend the day with my parents tomorrow,” he announces as he sits down beside you.
“I told you,” you reply, opening the bag and pulling out your drink. “I knew your mom wouldn’t be happy that you’re in town but not with her.”
“Yeah, yeah, you know everything, don’t you?”
“Call me God,” you smirk, and he chuckles, pulling a blanket from the car and draping it over your shoulders.
“You should put your shoes back on, ‘God.’ You’ll lose a toe,” he teases, and you simply tuck your feet under yourself, sitting on your knees.
“How long are you staying at Jimin’s?” you ask, taking a bite of your burger.
“Maybe another month or two. I’m looking for a place. Why?” he says, tossing a fry in his mouth before opening a can of cola.
“Just asking,” you shrug, swallowing your bite as you look out at the shore. “If you get too annoyed with him, I have an extra room. For a few days, I mean.”
“We spent the night in the same bed,” Jungkook raises an eyebrow, amused.
“I was drunk.”
“Not when you kissed me this morning.”
“Shut up,” you groan, pulling your knees to your chest as you eat your burger in silence.
Jungkook presses his lips together, trying not to grin as he unwraps his own burger. He’s holding back his feelings. If he were alone, he’d probably be kicking his feet like a giddy teenager because right now, he finds you incredibly cute with your blushing cheeks. No other woman makes him feel like this.
“But... I’m serious. If you want to stay at mine... I know how Jimin can be overwhelming. So, if you need a place to breathe, you can come to me,” you mumble, looking away.
His smile softens as he nods.
“You know, you shouldn’t say things like that because I hear you loud and clear, and I’ll be at yours the second we get back to Seoul,” Jungkook teases, taking a sip of his drink.
“Maybe I want you to,” you nearly whisper, making his heart skip a beat as you shift your attention back to the beach. “The sunset in Busan is prettier,” you say, quickly changing the subject.
His eyes follow yours, staring out at the horizon before drifting back to you. He knows you can feel him watching you, but he doesn’t care.
“Do you really want to try again?”
The question lingers in the air, surprising him. Are you opening the door?
“Do you?” he asks, his fingers playing absently in the sand.
“I... I think you’re right. Our story wasn’t over when I broke up with you,” you say, taking a deep breath. “And I think we won’t be able to move on unless we see where... this could take us,” you add, gesturing between the two of you.
The way you say it makes him frown slightly. It’s almost as if you’re giving your relationship a second chance to prove that you weren’t meant to be together—to help you grieve properly.
“Do you really want to try again?” Jungkook asks softly, watching as you chew on the inside of your cheek.
“I... want to,” you reply shyly before meeting his gaze.
“That doesn’t sound very convincing,” he replies gently before taking a deep breath. “Do you want this?”
His eyes never leave yours. He’s holding his breath, terrified of your answer.
“Yes,” you say with more conviction. “I hate when you make me say things out loud.”
“I’m a little dumb. I need to hear it clearly,” he jokes, pushing the food aside to scoot closer, stealing a corner of the blanket to wrap himself with you. “I want to try again. But only if you want that too.”
Jungkook gently pushes a strand of hair away from your face, his thumb grazing your jaw.
“I don’t want to try again just to properly grieve the breakup. I want this because I know we’re meant to be.”
“Says who?” you ask with a playful smile.
“Me. You. We both know we’re meant to be together. Ever since I saw you hit that girl with your tray,” he teases, and you scoff, shaking your head.
“You’ll never let me live that down, will you?”
“That was hot.”
He watches as you move closer, your fingers brushing his cheek before you lean in to kiss the corner of his mouth, so softly that he almost doesn’t feel it.
“Let’s try again,” you whisper, resting your forehead against his as you close your eyes. He can sense the vulnerability in your words. “Not to grieve. Not to stay stuck in the memories we made. I want to learn about the person you’ve become. And...”
Fall in love again. Jungkook knows what you’re about to say. But both of you leave the words unspoken. You need to rediscover who you are now and learn to love the new versions of yourselves.
“I want that too,” Jungkook murmurs before pulling back, smiling at you. “Alright. Once we’re back in Seoul, I’m taking you on a fancy date and wooing you properly.”
You chuckle softly at his words, watching as he gets up while you wrap the blanket around yourself like a cocoon.
“Aren’t we already on a date?” you ask, pushing your hair away as the wind whips it back across your face.
Jungkook takes off his cap and places it on your head to keep your hair out of your face. He remembers how you always forgot to bring a hair tie. Back then, your hair was long enough to twist into a bun without one.
“Of course, it’s a date. I plan on driving you home and stealing a kiss after complimenting you all afternoon,” he grins as you stand up, wrapping yourself tightly in the blanket.
“Please don’t,” you laugh, shaking your head, and he shrugs, making no promises.
Jungkook pulls his mother into a warm hug with one arm, his other hand carrying his travel bag. He had spent the day with his family, and since he was leaving today, his mother had prepared way too much food for everyone, even for his brother and sister-in-law.
“Don’t forget this,” she says, handing him plastic bags full of packed lunches for him and Jimin. “And tell Jimin to visit us next time.”
“Yes, mom,” Jungkook smiles, amused, kissing the top of her head.
When he hears the honk of your car, his eyes shift toward it, and a grin spreads across his face.
“Ah, my Uber is here,” he jokes, giving his father a quick hug before gathering all his bags. As you step out of the car to open the trunk for him, his mother calls out.
“Y/N?” She sounds unsure, making Jungkook scrunch his nose. “Oh my, look at you!” she beams, walking over to you as you shift awkwardly from one foot to the other.
“Hello, Ahjumma,” you greet her with a smile before she pulls you into a hug. “You’re looking great.”
“You too. You’ve grown into such a beautiful young woman,” his mother compliments while Jungkook places his bags in the trunk, leaning his hip against the car. “How long has it been since I last saw you?”
Jungkook smiles proudly at your interaction, watching from the sidelines as his mother holds your hands. She’s a chatterbox, and he knows you’ll be stuck here for at least ten or fifteen minutes. He frowns slightly when he feels his phone buzz in his pocket. Pulling it out, he swallows hard. Fuck. Excusing himself, he walks a few steps away from you and his mother to answer the call.
“Hi, darling,” he whispers, turning his back to you.
“Hi, my love. How’s Busan? You didn’t send me any pictures,” Hina says, and he knows she’s probably pouting.
“I, uh, I’ve been busy with family... But I did take some photos. I’ll send them to you once I’m back in Seoul.”
His eyes drift back to you, laughing with his mother, and guilt washes over him. It feels wrong to be playing both sides.
“Oh, I can’t wait,” Hina coos, while Jungkook bites his bottom lip, his gaze still on you.
“How are you? It must be getting colder there now,” he asks, trying to focus on the conversation. He hears her soft hum and the sound of her settling into bed.
“I can’t wait to explore Seoul with you. I’m starting to pack next week. Our apartment is already on the market. Have you found anything interesting in Seoul yet?” she continues, but his attention is elsewhere, on you now hugging his mother—albeit, a bit awkwardly.
“Hm? Oh, uh, yeah. I’ve started looking. Jimin’s helping me,” he responds, scuffing a rock with his foot, preoccupied, before her words fully register. “Wait for me; I’ll book a ticket to Tokyo to help you with the move.”
He hates what he’s doing. He should break up with her now—to avoid hurting her and to fully focus on you. But breaking up over the phone would be an asshole move. He owes her a face-to-face conversation. Plus, he doesn’t want her preparing to move to Seoul for nothing.
“Oh, my love, that’s so sweet of you,” Hina replies, her voice pitched a little higher. “I miss you. Should I start looking at tickets for next week? The sooner you’re here, the better.”
“No, don’t worry about it, darling,” he says, as you wave at him, signaling that it’s time to leave. “I have to go now. I’ll call you when I’m back in Seoul.”
Hina sighs softly, clearly disappointed not to have more time to talk with her fiancé.
“Alright... I’ll wait for your call,” she murmurs. Jungkook adjusts his cap. “I love you. Drive safely.”
Jungkook takes a deep breath, biting the inside of his cheek. Hina has no idea that he didn’t go to Busan with someone, and certainly not you. He told her that Jimin let him borrow his car.
“I... me too,” he replies, his voice nearly a whisper before ending the call.
His stomach churns, twisted with guilt. Lying to two women feels awful, and he knows the feeling won’t go away until he resolves this mess.
“I’m going to leave you here if you don’t start running,” you tease playfully, and he nods, jogging back to the car.
Both of you wave one last time to his mother, his father now standing at the door. Once you start the engine and leave Busan behind, Jungkook is quiet, staring out the window, chewing on the inside of his cheek.
“Are you okay?” you ask, pulling him from his thoughts.
“Yeah,” he replies, though it’s brief and followed by a shake of his head as if trying to shake off the feeling that’s eating at him. “Why?”
“Because you’re usually more talkative.” You glance at him quickly before focusing back on the road. “Do you miss your mom already?” you tease, lightening the mood, and he groans.
He’s well aware of his “mama’s boy” reputation—something both you and Jimin always teased him about.
“I didn’t think your mom would be so welcoming,” you say softly, and he arches a brow.
“She’s always loved you. She hated my first girlfriend, and all the ones after you. But never you,” he replies, rolling his eyes with a smile. “Even after we broke up, she blamed me, said it was my fault for not being able to keep you.”
Jungkook watches as you press your lips together, trying not to smile. His mom always wanted daughters, but she got two sons instead. So, when Jungkook introduced you, his mom had been over the moon—a well-mannered, lovely girl who loved her son unconditionally. You instantly became her favorite kid.
“You cut your hair?” you ask, noticing the buzz cut at the back of his head, partially hidden by his cap.
“Actually...” he grimaces, taking off his hat and glancing at himself in the rearview mirror before brushing his bangs. “My mom did. She said I have a ‘girl’s face on a man’s body with my long hair.’”
He carefully watches your reaction as you quickly glance at his new haircut before stopping at a red light, then turn to really stare at him.
“Oh, hell no,” you chuckle softly. “Forget about that second date.” You joke, and he groans, playfully nudging your shoulder.
“It’s not that bad,” he mutters, giving his reflection another look on his phone.
“It’s actually worse,” you grimace before bursting into laughter. “Does your mother know any haircut other than the awful chestnut style you always have?”
He has to admit, he does look like a chestnut. It never bothered him until you started teasing him about it.
“Argh, shut up. I think I look cute,” Jungkook sighs, adjusting his hair again.
“The ‘Kookoonut’ era is back,” you tease, and he rolls his eyes.
“I’m heading straight to the hairstylist as soon as we’re back in Seoul.”
“You have the same face as when you were sixteen. Except for the buff body and tattoos, I mean.” you say, sneaking another glance. Inside, he knows you’re warming up to his new look, maybe even liking it. But of course, you’d never admit it out loud.
“You still fell in love with me, even with that haircut,” he boasts, smirking when your cheeks turn an adorable shade of pink.
“I didn’t fall in love for that haircut back then,” you mumble, blushing so hard that even your ears are red. You crank up the radio to signal that the conversation is over because you’re too embarrassed.
Jungkook chuckles softly, shaking his head before turning his gaze back to the window, pulling his cap down over his head again.
“Oh, she’s going to hate you,” Yoongi chuckles, taking a sip of his beer as Jungkook palms his face. “They’re both going to hate you.”
Jimin lets out a chuckle as he sits next to Jungkook on the couch, handing him another beer.
“And what am I supposed to do?” Jungkook asks dramatically, falling back against the couch, hiding his face in his hands.
“Which one do you love more?” Yoongi asks, earning a slap on the back from Jimin before laughing. “What? It’s easier that way—to know what you want.”
“Neither Y/N nor Hina deserves to be treated like disposable objects,” Jimin scolds, and Jungkook stares blankly at the coffee table.
Jimin’s right. Neither of them deserves to be treated that way.
“I thought Jimin would pull a shitty move like that, not you,” Yoongi adds, wetting his lips as Jimin gasps dramatically.
“I’ve never done that to any woman,” Jimin groans, and Jungkook arches a brow.
“You dated three girls back in high school,” Jungkook reminds him.
“I was a teenager,” Jimin defends himself. “A stupid teenager.”
“You’re still stupid. Just now you’re an adult,” Yoongi retorts, shrugging.
Jungkook can’t help but chuckle slightly. He likes how unbothered Yoongi is, saying things casually. To people who don’t know him, Yoongi might seem pretentious, but it’s just his humor.
“So, what are you going to do?” Jimin arches a brow, ignoring Yoongi’s remark.
Sighing loudly, Jungkook looks down at his beer bottle.
“I don’t know… Should I leave Hina and try my luck with Y/N? I feel bad for her. Or should I give up on Nabi and continue with Hina?” he mumbles, wiping the condensation off his bottle with his thumb.
“Which one do you love more?” Yoongi repeats his question.
Jungkook sighs, biting the inside of his cheek. It’s an easy question, but he can’t say it out loud.
“Hina’s always been there for me…” He begins, and the other two roll their eyes. “I can’t just dump her like a trash bag, guys. She’s nice, I like her. She’s always supported my dreams and plans in life. She accepted the heartbroken guy I was and helped me get better. It would be ungrateful and disrespectful to leave her for my ex. I just can’t.”
“So, you love Nabi,” Yoongi concludes with a shrug. Jungkook groans, throwing his head back.
“Honestly, I feel bad lying to both of them,” Jimin says, absentmindedly scratching a stain on the table. “Nabi is one of our oldest friends. And Hina… she’s a sweetheart.”
“I know that,” Jungkook says, raising his voice slightly. “I know, okay? They’re both great in their own way. And I hate that one of them is going to get hurt.” He frowns, frustration creeping in.
The two men exchange a glance before Jimin sighs. “I know it’s hard, Kookie. But sooner or later, they’ll both find out. And Hina will be here soon.”
Jungkook tries to push those thoughts aside as he knocks on your door two days later. It’s Friday night, and as promised, he’s here to take you out. You open the door, your nose nearly brushing his chest before you lift your eyes to meet his.
“Sorry, I’m almost ready,” you say, stepping aside to let him in while putting on some golden earrings.
“No problem,” he replies with a smile, following you into the living room.
His eyes wander over your figure, appreciating how you’ve dressed up for him. He can’t help but admire how the black dress hugs your body. His gaze follows you as you disappear into your room, returning moments later with your heels in one hand and your iPad in the other.
“I finished the design. Tell me if you like it,” you say, handing him the tablet as he sits on the couch. He forces himself to focus on the sketch instead of you. “If something doesn’t fit right, just tell me, and I’ll correct it.”
Jungkook smiles at how meticulous you are with your work. Every little detail is exactly how he envisioned it.
“It looks good to me,” he says, watching as you sit on the coffee table to put on your heels.
“Are you sure?” you ask again, and he nods, taking one of your heels from your hand. “Alright. If you’re free next week, I’ll fit you into my schedule,” you say.
“Already eager to see me again?” he teases, gently grabbing your ankle to help you with your heel.
You don’t protest to his gesture, and stare at him with a slight smile.
“Can I ask you something, Nabi?” he says softly, and you hum in response.
“I have this friend… back in Japan. He’s seeing two girls,” Jungkook begins, focusing on slipping your foot into the heel, letting his fingers trail lightly along your leg.
You frown slightly as he picks up your other foot.
“He likes them both, but one of them is his greatest love. The other is… someone special to him.”
“Do the girls know?” you ask, and he shakes his head.
“No, neither of them knows. But he knows he has to make a choice before hurting both,” Jungkook continues, busying himself with putting on your other heel.
He avoids meeting your gaze, focusing on the task.
“How would you react if you were in his position?”
You take a moment to consider the question.
“I can’t put myself in his position,” you finally reply, crossing one leg over the other, eyes still on him. “But it’s not fair to the girl who’s just ‘special.’ Deep down, he’ll always be thinking about his greatest love while he’s with her.” You continue and Jungkook nods, taking in your words. “If I’m being honest, if I were him, I’d choose the greatest love.”
“You would?”
“Hm… I have a lot of affection for Baekhyun. But you, you’re my greatest love,” you mumble, your cheeks turning rosy. Jungkook’s heart skips a beat, his eyes softening. “But if I were either of those girls, I’d dump his ass for trying to have it both ways,” you add, colder this time as you stand up.
His heart drops at your words, and he mechanically stand up too. His hands are shaking. Jungkook takes a deep breath, hiding them in his pockets.
“I hope they both find out and that he ends up alone,” You add, walking to the door. “Let’s go, I’m starving.” You smile, grabbing your coat and Jungkook knows deep down—he’s screwed.

Summary: For Jungkook, marrying you was a calculated move -a necessary step to secure the company that was rightfully his. What neither of you anticipated was the spark that would ignite in the ashes of your arrangement. But in a world where every touch felt like a promise and every whisper hid a secret, falling for him was your first mistake. Because just when you thought his heart might truly be yours, you uncovered the truth. Or so you thought.
MASTERLIST
The air inside Jungkook's office was warm and suffocating despite the minimalistic modern design and large floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked Berlin's skyline. You stepped inside with measured steps, your heels clicking softly on the marble floor. Jungkook was already there, leaning against the edge of his grand wooden desk with his long tattooed fingers wrapping around the pen that kept swirling on his digits every few seconds, the faintest smirk tugging at his lips.
"You're early," he said, his voice smooth but laced with something smug.
"I prefer to get unpleasant things over with quickly," you replied, your tone cool and detached as you slipped off your coat. "I assume your father told you why I'm here."
Jungkook chuckled, swirling the pen one last time before putting it down. "Oh, I know. The future Mrs. Jeon wants to 'discuss terms,' right? Sounds like a business merger already." his dark eyes gleamed with interest as he looked you up and down, deliberately slow. "But I'm curious, why did you finally agree? You seemed so determined to avoid me before."
You crossed your arms, meeting his gaze without flinching. "Not everything is about you, Jungkook. My reasons are my own."
The smirk faltered for a split second before returning, this time tinged with something bittersweet. "Fair enough," he said, straightening up and taking a step closer, his voice dropping just slightly. "But you'll have to get used to things being about us. At least, that's what everyone else will expect starting next weekend."
Your pulse quickened, but you refused to show it. You kept your expression neutral, tilting your head just slightly. "Let's get one thing straight, this marriage may be inevitable, but that doesn't mean I have to like it."
Jungkook smiled -slow, dangerous, and entirely too pleased. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
That sentence alone had you rolling your eyes, trying to control yourself from slipping your tongue on how disgusted you were by that whole thing.
You exhaled slowly, your fingers tightening around the strap of yourbag. "As long as you understand where we stand, this arrangement might work. We'll play the perfect couple for the public. But behind closed doors, we keep our distance until we sign the divorce papers. Simple."
Jungkook stepped closer, closing the space between you just enough to make your breath hitch. His cologne -warm and spicy- wrapped around you like an invisible trap. "Keep our distance?" he repeated, his voice low, almost amused. "Is that what you want? Because that's not what it looked like back at that business gala... when you couldn't stop staring."
As much as you wanted to deny it, your eyes were indeed on him the whole time. He was charming and captivating, it was impossible to move your eyes away from him. But that hypnosis lasted until his family came up with the idea of imposing that marriage on you. He lost all his charm just at that moment.
You narrowed your eyes. "I was staring at the disaster unfolding around me, not at you."
Jungkook smirked, tilting his head. "Right. That's why your eyes followed me the entire night." he leaned in, his lips just a breath away from your ear. "You're good at playing it cold, Y/n. But I wonder how long you can keep that act up once we're married."
You refused to back down, your voice calm despite the spark of irritation in your chest. "I've dealt with men far more intimidating than you, Jungkook. Trust me, keeping you at arm's length won't be a challenge."
A flicker of something darker crossed his eyes -something almost dangerous. For a moment, the air between you felt heavy, charged with unspoken words and years of unresolved tension.
"Good," Jungkook finally said, his voice a whisper. "Keep trying to resist me. It'll make it that much more fun when you fail."
Your jaw tightened, and you took a step back, reclaiming the distance. "You're delusional if you think I'll ever fall for you."
Jungkook raised his eyebrows in amused awe as he took on the challenge. "We'll see, future Mrs. Jeon. We've got a lifetime to test that theory."
You turned on your heel, refusing to give him the satisfaction of seeing how his words affected you. But as you walked toward the door, you couldn't shake the feeling that Jungkook was right. The real challenge wasn't staying distant -it was making sure you didn't get burned by the fire between you.
"By the way, you mentioned divorce... didn't you?" your tracks stopped the second he mentioned that detail, hearing his heavy steps behind you as he approached his body.
Slowly, you turned to him, unable to back down on your stance "That's what we agreed on."
"Some deals suffer changes as they have to meet different necessities, don't you think?" the way his eyebrows arched, while his lips pursed on a mocking grin almost had you losing your patience. "Divorce was ever on the plate? Because I don't think it was one of my conditions".
"No, it was one of mine" you spat back. "Either sign those divorce papers on good terms, or I'll drag you from one trial to another" Jungkook loved the challenge, he loved the way your eyes fixed on him to make sure he understood everything you were saying.
"What if I don't want to sign them?"
"Then you'll have to find another dumbass to agree to get married to you" you rolled your eyes, thinking that would be the end of your conversation, but his fingers hooked on your elbow to stop you from walking away.
You weren't sure exactly when he got so close, but you could feel the warm air escaping his nostrils on your cheeks.
"Don't try to throw a fist at me" he stopped you. "You're so used to getting what you want, don't you? You pout a little, you act a little bitchy and daddy gives you all you want. Let me give you a spoiler: that won't work with me. The moment you're my wife, you'll do as I say. And if I say I don't want to get divorced, then you won't get those fucking papers".
Your eyes started to water: rage, sadness, frustration... All those feelings were building up as you realized you got to a no-exit stop. Your plans were crumbling down, all your ideas were getting ruined, and all you could do was tighten your lips and open your eyes as much as possible so tears wouldn't escape with a blink.
Daddy's girl? He had absolutely no idea. If you were living in such a perfect place, you wouldn't have agreed in the first place, but the fact that your parents -or people who gave you shelter when you needed it- agreed on engaging their daughter with a complete stranger for money should've given him enough of a hint of your reality.
"Your choice" you managed to get rid of his grip. "Either sign those papers, or I'll make sure to tell everyone what all of this is about".
"You won't. And you wanna know how I know?" he took one step closer to you. "I'll make your life a living hell if you do".
"With what power?"
Your mocking tone was the last straw before he moved his hand from your elbow to your throat, wrapping his fingers around it and slamming your body against the wide door.
"I don't need any power for that." his eyes were dark, his threat becoming a promise "Even if it's the last thing I do, I'll make you regret ever messing with me. So you better come with a pretty dress and the best of attitudes next weekend". He let go of your throat slowly, calmly placing his shirt properly "I know you'll make the best decision" he finally said.
Your eyes were fixed on him, confused at how easily he let you go. And, somehow, his words were even scarier than his actions, because you could see the threat through them.
The grand hall was filled with muted whispers and expectant gazes, the air thick with anticipation. The soft hum of violins played in the background, their melody delicate but almost haunting. The guests sat in rows beneath an arch of white roses and crystal chandeliers, their eyes flitting between the tall doors at the back of the aisle and Jungkook, who stood at the altar in his perfectly tailored black suit, waiting.
His fingers twitched at his sides as he stole a glance at the watch, sliding the sleeve of his jacket just a bit far up.
Ten minutes late. Then fifteen.
You weren't there.
He told himself you'd show up. You had to. But with each passing second, doubt sank its claws deeper into him. His heart pounded, and the polished facade he wore so well began to crack. Was this your way of backing out? A silent rebellion against a marriage neither of you had chosen? Were you actually telling the truth when you said you wouldn't show up if he didn't promise you a divorce?
The doors remained closed, and Jungkook's jaw tightened. His father, seated in the front row, shot him a warning glance -one that practically screamed "Handle this".
Then, just as his patience teetered on the edge of collapse, the heavy doors finally creaked open.
A hush fell over the crowd.
And there you were.
You stood at the entrance in your wedding dress, the long veil trailing behind you, catching the soft light like a halo. For a moment, the room seemed to blur around you, everything fading except the heavy thud of your heart. You could feel every eye on you, the weight of their expectations pressing down on your chest, stealing the breath from your lungs.
Your feet felt like concrete as you took your first step. Hesitation rooted itself deep inside you, your body caught in a battle between instinct and obligation.
Jungkook watched you with an intensity that bordered on desperation. His dark eyes flickered with a thousand questions. You couldn't miss the way his shoulders tensed or how his lips pressed into a thin line, betraying the fear he was trying so hard to conceal.
Step by step, you made your way down the aisle, but each step felt heavier than the last. Doubt whispered cruelly in your ear. "You don't have to do this" you told yourself.
Your fingers clutched the bouquet so tightly that your knuckles turned white. You forced yourself forward, your gaze fixed ahead, refusing to meet Jungkook's eyes until you stood just a breath away from him.
"Finally," Jungkook muttered under his breath, his voice low enough for only you to hear.
There was relief in his tone, but it was wrapped in a layer of frustration.
The officiant began to speak, his words echoing in the cavernous hall. You barely registered them, your mind a tangled mess of emotions. Jungkook's eyes never left yours. His expression was calm on the surface, but you could see the storm raging just beneath it: fear, frustration, and something dangerously close to longing.
"And now," the officiant said, his voice cutting through the fog in your mind, "if the bride and groom would like to exchange their vows."
Jungkook went first. His voice was steady, but the practiced words carried an unexpected weight, laced with sincerity that caught you off guard.
"I promise to protect you," he said, his gaze locking onto yours. "To stand beside you through whatever comes next. No matter what happens... I'm yours."
There was a flicker of vulnerability in his eyes -just a flash- but it was enough to send your heart lurching in your chest.
Then it was your turn. The officiant turned to you expectantly, waiting for your response.
You opened your mouth to speak, but no words came.
A heavy silence hung in the air. It stretched long enough to make the guests shift uncomfortably in their seats. Even the soft melody of the violins seemed to falter.
Everything you had prepared so mindfully disappeared at the feeling of being so watched, as if you were under watchful eye. You were sure it'd be obvious you weren't feeling either of the words you were pronouncing.
Jungkook's fingers curled slightly at his sides, his eyes searching yours for a sign, for anything.
The officiant cleared his throat. "Do you, Y/n, take Jeon Jungkook to be your lawfully wedded husband?" his tone was insistent, as if he wanted to get any words from you to get all of that over with.
The pause that followed was suffocating. You felt Jungkook's breath catch, his entire body coiled tight, ready to unravel.
Although he hoped you wouldn't humiliate him that way, he saw you completely able to do it.
Finally, you whispered the words.
"...I do."
Your voice was barely audible, a breath more than a declaration. But it was enough.
Jungkook exhaled, his shoulders relaxing, though the tension in his jaw remained. His eyes never left yours, dark and unreadable, as if trying to solve a puzzle with too many missing pieces.
The officiant smiled, oblivious to the war waging between the two of you. "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
Jungkook hesitated, just for a heartbeat, before leaning in. Your head immediately threw back slightly, enough for him to know you didn't want that kiss and make it seem like a shy move for the rest of the assistants. His hand found your waist -firm but not forceful- as he tilted his head and pressed his lips to yours.
The kiss was brief, calculated for the audience, but the heat of it lingered far longer than it should have. Jungkook had been daydreaming way too long about it to waste that chance.
His lips were warm against yours, but there was something else beneath the surface. A question. A challenge.
When he pulled back, his eyes locked on yours once more. He didn't smile. Neither did you.
The applause from the crowd felt distant, like it belonged to another world entirely.
As the two of you turned to face the audience, Jungkook leaned in close, his breath warm against your ear.
"We're just getting started," he whispered, his voice dark with promise.
You kept your face neutral, your expression unreadable, but your pulse betrayed you, thudding wildly in your chest.
The reception was a spectacle of luxury and elegance, just as expected from a merger of two powerful families. Crystal chandeliers cast a warm glow over the grand hall, where hundreds of guests mingled, sipping champagne and exchanging polite congratulations.
You smiled and nodded your way through countless conversations, always keeping one eye on Jungkook. He was never far, and every time you saw him start toward you, you slipped between groups of guests or ducked behind another table.
You had managed to avoid him all night. At the cake-cutting ceremony, his hand had hovered near yours on the knife, holding tighter over your skin as you threatened to let the long sword slide from your fingers to his throat. And for a fleeting moment, you thought he might say something, yet he only smirked and moved closer to you. You were quick to turn away, disappearing into the crowd the moment the applause broke, trying to get away from him.
Jungkook, however, was nothing if not persistent.
The moment you saw him again, his dark eyes locked onto yours from across the dance floor. This time, there was no escape. The crowd parted just enough for him to make his way toward you, his strides deliberate and confident.
"Running from me again?" he said when he reached you, his voice low, a challenge glinting in his eyes.
You lifted your chin, forcing your expression to stay composed. "I wasn't running. I was... mingling with the guests."
His lips curled into a smirk. "Right. Mingling." he offered his hand, palm open and waiting. "Well, it's time for the first dance, Mrs. Jeon. You wouldn't want to disappoint our guests, would you?"
Your stomach tightened at the weight of his words. There was no getting out of this. Not without causing a scene.
With a quiet sigh, you slipped your hand into his. His fingers curled around yours, warm and firm, and you couldn't help but notice how easily they fit together.
The lights dimmed, and the soft melody of "You Are the Reason" by Calum Scott filled the air. A sweet, tender song -one that felt far too intimate for the situation, as if it was meant for two people who loved each other.
Jungkook led you to the center of the dance floor, his hand resting gently on your waist, pulling you just close enough to make your pulse stutter.
"I was starting to think you wouldn't show up today," he said softly, his voice barely audible over the music. His eyes searched yours, the teasing edge gone now, replaced by something far more serious. "You made me worried."
You swallowed, your gaze dropping for a split second before meeting his again. "I was... thinking things through."
His hand tightened slightly on your waist. "Did you change your mind at the last minute?"
For a moment, you didn't answer. The question hung in the air between you, heavy with meaning. The song swelled around you, the lyrics wrapping around your heart like a bittersweet lullaby.
You knew hell would be nothing compared to your life if you didn't show up to the wedding. Not because of Jungkook or his family though, but your adoptive parents. The moment you twisted all of their plans, there would be no escape from it.
At least with Jungkook you wouldn't owe anyone anything. Instead, you'd be the one they owe something to.
Jungkook's eyes softened, his voice dropping to a near whisper. "If you had, I would've waited. I would've found another way."
Your breath hitched. His words caught you off guard -unexpected and disarming. For the first time that night, the wall you had so carefully built around yourself began to crack.
He seemed so genuine, so caring.
"I'm here now," you said, your voice steadier than you felt. "That's all that matters."
His gaze lingered on you for a long moment before he nodded. "Yeah. You're here."
The music continued, the world around you fading as you moved together in perfect synchrony. His touch was light yet grounding, his eyes never leaving yours.
For a fleeting second, you forgot about the crowd, the expectations, the tangled mess of your circumstances. It was just the two of you, swaying gently beneath the chandeliers, the lyrics of the song weaving a story neither of you was ready to admit aloud.
As the final notes faded, Jungkook leaned in just slightly, his voice a soft murmur against your ear.
"You can keep running all you want," he said, his breath warm on your skin. "But sooner or later, you'll stop. And when you do... I'll be right here, waiting."
You pulled back just enough to meet his gaze. There was no smirk, no mask, just him.
The applause from the crowd broke the spell, and you quickly stepped back, your heart thudding painfully in your chest. Jungkook let you go, but his eyes stayed on you, dark and unreadable, as if daring you to run again.
And maybe you would. But for the first time, a small part of you wondered if running was really what you wanted. No, you stayed by his side, answering to his challenge with the same power he was showing off.
The party blurred into a collection of clinking glasses, polite congratulations, and watchful eyes. Despite the sea of guests surrounding you, you felt like you were holding your breath the entire time. So when Jungkook leaned close and whispered, "Let's get out of here," you didn't argue. If he hadn't said it, you probably would've escaped by yourself.
Now, the two of you sat in the back of a sleek black car, the hum of the city filling the silence between you. The driver navigated the streets with ease, the warm glow of streetlights flashing across the car's interior.
Jungkook sat beside you, his posture relaxed, but his eyes kept drifting toward your hand -the wedding ring glinting softly on your finger. He didn't bother hiding the fact that he was staring.
You caught him once, raising an eyebrow. "Something wrong?"
His gaze flicked up to meet yours, and for a second, something unreadable flashed across his face. "No," he said quietly. "Just getting used to the sight."
You turned your hand slightly, the light catching on the diamond. The ring was beautiful, of course -a complex design that was probably picked out by your parents and Jungkook's father rather than by either of you. It felt foreign on your finger, a constant reminder of the deal you'd made.
Jungkook's lips twitched into something that wasn't quite a smile. "It suits you," he said, his voice soft, almost contemplative.
You said nothing, turning your head to watch the city rush by through the window. Jungkook simply smirked, knowing that your silence was better than a sassy response from you.
When the car finally pulled up to the luxury hotel, you let out a breath you didn't realize you were holding. The driver opened the door, and you stepped out, feeling the cool night air brush against your skin. Jungkook followed close behind, his hand hovering near the small of your back but never quite touching.
The suite was exactly what you expected -grand and luxurious, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering a stunning view of the Brandenburg Gate. A bottle of champagne and a tray of chocolates waited on the marble table, while a large king-sized bed sat at the center of the room, draped in crisp white linens.
You set your bag down and turned to Jungkook, folding your arms across your chest. "I'll take the bed. You can sleep on the couch."
His eyebrows lifted slightly, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "The couch?"
"It's comfortable enough," you said, nodding toward the plush, oversized sofa near the window. "Plenty of space."
Jungkook took a step closer, his expression unreadable. "We're married now, remember? Sharing the bed won't kill us."
You scoffed lightly, crossing the room to stand by the couch. "Not happening." You glanced back at him, raising an eyebrow. "Fine. You take the bed. I'll sleep here." you rushed to say, feeling your energy consumed by the small talk you made with all the guests.
"No." his response was immediate, his tone firm. "You're not sleeping on the couch."
"Then am I sleeping on the floor?" you arched an eyebrow "Because I won't sleep with you in the same bed".
You stared at him, daring him to argue further. But to your surprise, he sighed and ran a hand through his dark hair. "Alright. I'll sleep on the couch."
His sudden surrender caught you off guard. "Just like that?"
He smirked faintly, tossing his jacket onto a chair. "I'm not going to win this argument, am I?"
You watched him for a moment, suspicious of how easily he gave in, but ultimately decided not to push it. "Good. I'll get ready for bed."
As you disappeared into the bathroom, Jungkook sank onto the couch, leaning his head back against the cushions. He glanced at the wedding ring on his own hand, turning it slowly between his fingers. For all his confidence and charm, there was something strangely grounding about the weight of the band.
As much as that wasn't the way he wanted you to be by his side, it somehow made him feel good.
When you returned, dressed in something far more comfortable than your wedding gown, Jungkook was already stretched out on the couch, one arm draped over his eyes.
"Comfortable?" you asked, standing by the bed.
He peeked at you from beneath his arm, his lips quivering into a faint smile. "I've had worse."
You rolled your eyes and climbed into bed, pulling the blankets up around you. For a few moments, silence filled the room, the only sound the soft hum of the city outside the windows.
Just as your eyes started to drift closed, you heard Jungkook's voice -quiet but clear in the darkness.
"Goodnight, Y/n."
You hesitated before responding, your voice soft. "Goodnight, Jungkook."
Neither of you said anything after that, but sleep didn't come easily. You lay in the dark, staring at the ceiling, painfully aware of his presence just a few feet away.
The distance between you felt both vast and dangerously fragile. And as the minutes stretched into hours, you couldn't help but wonder how long it would stay that way.
The morning started quietly -too quietly. You woke up, blinking against the soft morning light spilling into the room, only to find Jungkook already sitting on the couch, his phone in hand. His jacket was gone, and his dress shirt, slightly wrinkled from the night before, was unbuttoned at the collar. He looked far too relaxed for someone who had spent the night on a couch after your wedding.
"Good morning," he said, his eyes flicking to yours the second you stirred. His voice was calm, but there was something smug lurking just beneath the surface, as if he was already one step ahead of you.
You rubbed your eyes, forcing yourself to sound composed. "Morning."
A few beats of silence passed, too long to be comfortable.
"You were tossing and turning last night," Jungkook said casually, stretching his arms behind his head. "Couldn't sleep?"
"I slept just fine," you lied, standing and heading for your bag. You could feel his eyes on your every move, sharp and assessing.
"You sure? You sounded restless." his voice was smooth, laced with amusement.
You froze, giving him a flat look. "Were you listening to me sleep?"
He grinned, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees. "It's hard not to when someone mutters 'This is a mistake' at 2 a.m."
Your face heated. "I did not..."
"You did." his smirk widened. "I thought about waking you up to ask what you meant, but I figured I'd let you dream about it instead."
You crossed your arms, your patience wearing thin. "Thanks for your consideration, Jungkook."
"Anything for you, love," he said, drawing out the word with deliberate sarcasm.
"You've really mastered being annoying, haven't you?" you shot back, heading toward the closet.
"Years of practice," he said, standing up and stretching, his shirt riding up just enough to reveal a sliver of skin. "You'll get used to it."
You rolled your eyes, yanking open your suitcase with unnecessary force. "God forbid."
Jungkook chuckled under his breath, walking over to lean casually against the wall beside you. "You can deny it all you want, but deep down, you like this."
You turned to glare at him. "Like what?"
"This," he said, gesturing between the two of you. "The bickering. The back-and-forth. Admit it, it's fun."
You took a deep breath, trying to keep your voice steady. "Jungkook, not everything is a game. And if you think this -whatever this is- counts as fun, then we're going to have a very long, very difficult marriage."
He tilted his head, pretending to think. "A long marriage... Sounds like you're planning to stick around. It does sound really good to me."
"Oh my god," you muttered, turning on your heel. "I can't do this right now."
You stalked toward the bathroom, determined to get a moment's peace.
"You're already giving up?" he called after you. "We've been married for less than 24 hours, Y/n!"
"I'm not giving up. I'm taking a shower," you snapped, slamming the bathroom door shut.
The water was a relief, washing away some of the tension, but your frustration lingered like a storm cloud. And then, halfway through shampooing your hair, you realized something.
You forgot to bring clothes.
You let out a frustrated groan, rinsing the shampoo quickly before wrapping yourself in a towel. The last thing you wanted was to ask Jungkook for help, so you cracked the door open and peeked out.
He was still there, leaning against the counter with his arms crossed, clearly waiting for your return like some smug predator.
Of course.
You squared your shoulders and stepped out, keeping your head high as you made your way toward the bag.
Jungkook's eyes found you immediately, sweeping over your damp hair and the towel wrapped tightly around you. He didn't even try to hide it.
"Forgot something?" his voice was low and teasing.
"Not a word," you warned, grabbing your clothes.
But before you could escape back to the bathroom, his hand wrapped around your wrist, stopping you in your tracks. His fingers were warm, firm, and far too steady for someone who was enjoying this way too much.
"Why bother going back?" he said softly, his voice dropping into that dangerously calm tone that always made your pulse race. "You're already here."
You tightened your grip on your towel. "Let me go, Jungkook."
His eyes darkened, his thumb brushing against your wrist in a slow, deliberate motion. "Why? What's the big deal? We're married now, remember?"
Your breath caught, but you forced your voice to stay steady. "I'm not afraid of you, if that's what you're thinking."
He leaned in just slightly, his lips curving into a smirk. "Then prove it. Get changed right here." His gaze dropped for a split second before meeting yours again, his voice barely a whisper. "Unless you're shy."
Your heart thundered in your chest, heat rushing to your face. "I'm not shy."
You weren't shy, but you didn't like the way your body was reacting to his voice, to his petition and his proximity. And you certainly didn't want him to see it so clearly either.
"Then go ahead," he said, his voice practically daring you.
You glared at him, yanking your wrist free. "Turn around."
"I'm not turning around" he sighed, sitting on the edge of the bed. "What's the fun of it if I can't see you?"
He was trying to intimidate you, challenge you to do something he thought you wouldn't dare to do, so he could then tease you about it.
Two could play that game.
You placed the clothes on the bed, next to where he was. Taking one step back, your hands were placed on both edges of the towel, slowly undoing the knot to let it pool at your feet. Jungkook gulped thick at the sight, not expecting you to actually get naked in front of him, and even less that way, and it gave you a pinch of pride at how nervous he looked for a second.
You didn't need to do anything, just that stare and the sight of your body alone was enough to awaken the most primal needs. His body responded to you, even if it had been just a second he saw you. Your humid skin, the way some drops fell from your hair and rolled down the curve of your breast to get to your hardened nipple. His mouth was watering just with the need of tasting you.
Jungkook blinked, confused at the way your hand was stretched out for him, "The panties" you mentioned as if it were obvious.
His hand moved to his left, grabbing the fabric to hand it out to you. You put them on torturously slow, covering your lower half to snap your fingers and asking him for your bra. Placing the strips on your shoulders, you turned to him, your body fitting perfectly in between his semi-parted legs as you silently asked him to tie the clasp.
Shivers ran through your body at the contact of the reverse of his fingers on your skin, his touch holding on longer than necessary, just because he liked the way you felt as he touched you a little bit too much.
You didn't need to ask, because Jungkook moved to the next item the moment you stepped away.
He should've seen it coming for him when he saw you lifting your feet, placing it on his thigh -way too close to a place where he needed you like crazy. Your fingers moved calmly, sliding the tight over your leg, up the curve of your knee, moving it past your thigh. Yet Jungkook could only focus on how your warmth spread over his skin like wildfire, making him feel you were touching him in places you were not.
When you finally stepped back to put on the other side of the tight, and the rest of clothes, Jungkook felt like he could breathe again, his control coming back to him when he was able to think straight -which also happened when you were fully clothed again.
You thought he'd hesitate or act shy, but instead his cocky attitude came back as he stood up, the height difference becoming obvious again as he towered over you.
"See how it isn't that difficult to be a good girl?" he muttered, just loud enough for you to hear.
You'd have thrown a shoe at him if he hadn't hidden inside the bathroom immediately after airing out that response.
He was insufferable.
The car ride to Jungkook's house was quiet, tense, and far too long for your liking. The morning sun bathed the streets in gold, but it did nothing to lighten the atmosphere inside the vehicle. Jungkook sat beside you, one arm draped lazily across the back of the seat, his eyes occasionally drifting toward you as you stared resolutely out the window.
He had been surprisingly well-behaved since the towel incident, keeping his teasing remarks to a minimum -though his occasional glances were enough to keep you on edge.
When the car finally pulled up in front of his house, your eyes widened slightly. House was an understatement. It was a sprawling modern estate with sleek glass panels, sharp architectural lines, and an air of quiet luxury.
"Home sweet home," Jungkook said, stepping out of the car and holding the door open for you with a half-smirk.
You stepped out, clutching your overnight bag tightly. "Big enough so we won't have to see each other for a whole day"
"Thanks for noticing," he quipped. "Come on. I'll give you the grand tour."
You followed him up the steps, trying not to be too impressed as you took in the pristine interior-marble floors, minimalist décor, and massive windows that flooded the space with light.
"Kitchen's over there," Jungkook said, gesturing toward an open-concept area with gleaming countertops. "Dining room, living room... you know, standard rich-guy stuff."
"Right," you said dryly. "Because this is completely normal."
He glanced back at you with a grin. "You'll get used to it." the mockery on his tone, knowing damn too well you were used to all that luxury and more, shouldn't have been as funny as it seemed for you.
You rolled your eyes, walking a little faster to avoid his gaze. The tension from earlier was still there, simmering just beneath the surface, but it was muted now, replaced by an odd sense of anticipation.
"Upstairs," Jungkook said, leading you to the second floor. You followed him down a hallway lined with modern artwork and huge windows, your footsteps echoing softly on the hardwood floors.
He stopped in front of a door near the end of the hallway and turned to you. "This is your room."
You blinked, caught off guard. "My... room?"
Jungkook nodded, his expression unreadable. "I figured you'd want your own space."
Your hand tightened around the strap of your bag. For a moment, you didn't know what to say. You had fully expected him to make some smug comment about sharing a bed -or worse, insist on it. But there he was, offering you something you hadn't dared to hope for: distance.
"Thanks," you said quietly, stepping into the room. It was beautiful -spacious, with a king-sized bed, soft cream-colored walls, and a large window that overlooked the shared garden of the building. There was even an en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower and a deep soaking tub.
You indeed wouldn't need to get out there, except to eat.
"Your things are in the closet" he started. "You didn't bring a lot of things, so I guess you'll bring the rest later?"
"No, that's it" you whispered.
Jungkook stopped for a second, shocked about the fact that you only brought a medium suitcase and the bag you were carrying to pack up all of your things. It wasn't like he was expecting a full suitcase display from you, but certainly not something so minimal.
"I'll be down the hall if you need anything," Jungkook said, lingering in the doorway. His eyes softened, his earlier bravado fading just a little. "Seriously. Anything."
For a brief second, the air between you shifted. He wasn't teasing or smug. He just looked... sincere.
You hesitated, feeling the strange urge to say something more, but the words caught in your throat. Instead, you gave him a small nod. "I'll be fine."
He smiled faintly, stepping back. "Alright. Settle in. I'll see you downstairs."
As he walked away, you closed the door and leaned against it, exhaling slowly.
Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all.
But then again, with Jungkook, nothing ever stayed calm for long.
The first month of marriage was nothing short of a battlefield.
It didn't take long for every small interaction to turn into a heated argument. Jungkook always had something to say -sharp and sarcastic, ready to push your buttons at every opportunity. You were no better, meeting his smug remarks with icy glares and curt responses. It became a game, a war of words and wills, with neither of you willing to surrender.
There were good moments, but they were fleeting. It started with you finding out Jungkook filled up your closet with different clothes and accessories, adding up to the small suitcase you first brought. And it slowly evolved into a laugh shared over breakfast when Jungkook nearly burned his toast. A surprisingly comfortable evening spent watching a movie in silence, where the tension seemed to ease just a little. But those moments were always overshadowed by the endless tug-of-war that followed.
It was exhausting, that constant dance of hostility and fleeting truce.
Every day felt like a test of who could push the other further without breaking. The house, despite its size, felt stifling. His presence lingered in every room -a constant reminder that your marriage was nothing more than a cage disguised as luxury.
And today, you'd had enough.
The argument started in the kitchen that morning, over something as trivial as a set of misplaced car keys. It escalated far too quickly, voices rising, accusations flying.
"You always think you can control everything," you snapped, crossing your arms.
Jungkook leaned against the counter, his jaw tightening. "Control? I'm trying to help you, but you treat everything I say like it's some personal attack."
"Because it always is!" you threw up your hands in frustration. "You don't know how to back off, Jungkook! You just keep pushing and pushing... Fuck, you don't let me breathe!"
"Maybe because you keep running away instead of facing things!" his voice dropped, low and sharp. "You're so obsessed with shutting me out that you can't even see when someone's trying to meet you halfway."
You stared at him, chest heaving, words caught in your throat. For a second, neither of you moved. The silence felt heavier than the argument itself.
Then, without a word, you turned on your heel and stormed upstairs. You needed air, space, anything to escape that suffocating cycle.
In your room, you grabbed a coat and your purse, your hands trembling with frustration. Your eyes caught on your wedding ring, glinting in the sunlight. The sight of it only fueled the fire burning in your chest.
You slipped it off, the cool metal unfamiliar without the warmth of your skin beneath it. For a moment, you stared at the ring in your palm, your thoughts a chaotic swirl of emotions.
Then you set it on the dresser and walked out of the room, not bothering to look back.
Jungkook was still in the kitchen when you came back down, his back to you. You didn't say a word as you grabbed your keys from the counter and headed for the front door.
The sound of your footsteps must have caught his attention because he turned around, his eyes narrowing. "Where are you going?"
"Out," you said shortly, not slowing down.
"Without your ring?" his voice was calm, too calm. It sent a shiver down your spine.
You paused, hand on the door handle, refusing to turn around. "I need some time alone."
"And you think taking off your ring is the way to do that?" his footsteps echoed behind you, slow and deliberate. "Is this your idea of freedom?"
You finally turned to face him, meeting his eyes head-on. "What does it matter? It's not like this marriage is real anyway."
The words hung in the air, heavy and final.
For the first time in weeks, Jungkook didn't have a quick response. He just looked at you, his jaw clenched, his eyes dark with something you couldn't quite place -hurt, maybe, or anger, or both.
"If you walk out that door without it," he said quietly, "don't expect me to come looking for you."
The threat was clear, but it only made your resolve stronger.
"Good," you said, voice steady. "That's exactly what I want."
And with that, you opened the door and stepped outside, the cool air hitting your face like a slap.
As you walked toward your car, your heart pounded in your chest. Part of you expected him to follow, to stop you. But when you glanced back, the door was already closed.
Maybe he didn't care enough to stop you after all. Although you wouldn't think too much about it. The more he ignored you, the more freedom you'd have.
The bar was harmonized with a low hum of conversation and soft music filling the air. You had no plan when you walked in -just an overwhelming need to be anywhere but at that house. You found a spot at the bar, ordering a drink and savoring the temporary escape it promised.
The alcohol warmed your throat and dulled the frustration swirling in your chest. One drink turned into two, and for the first time in weeks, you felt like you could breathe again.
"You look like you could use some company."
You glanced up to see a man standing beside you, his smile easy and confident. His eyes lingered on you just a little too long.
"Not really," you said, turning back to your drink.
"Come on, don't be like that," he said, leaning in closer. "It's just a conversation. You shouldn't be alone in a place like this."
"I'm fine," you insisted, but he didn't seem to get the hint.
The air shifted before you could say anything else, a new presence filling the space behind you.
"She's not alone."
You froze at the familiar voice, low and commanding. Turning slightly, you found yourself face-to-face with Jungkook. His dark eyes were locked on the man, his jaw tight, his entire body radiating quiet danger.
The man raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. "And who are you?"
Jungkook's lips curved into a slow, dangerous smile. "Her husband."
The word hung in the air like a gunshot, silencing everything around you.
The man's eyes flicked between the two of you, suddenly less confident. "Right... well, my mistake." he backed away with a muttered apology, disappearing into the crowd.
Your heart was pounding, though you weren't sure if it was from the alcohol or the way Jungkook's eyes hadn't left you once.
"What are you doing here?" you asked, trying to sound unaffected.
"I could ask you the same thing," he said, his voice calm but laced with barely restrained frustration. "But I guess taking off your ring and disappearing without a word answers that for me."
"I needed space," you said, crossing your arms. "You don't own me, Jungkook."
His eyes darkened. "You're right. I don't. But I'm still your husband. If you disappear in the middle of the night, I'll come looking for you. And if some creep thinks he can hit on you, then I'm going to do something about it."
You rolled your eyes, the alcohol emboldening you. "So this is about your ego?"
He took a step closer, the tension crackling between you. "No. It's about the fact that I care, whether you want to believe it or not."
His words caught you off guard, leaving you momentarily speechless.
"Let's go," he said, his tone softening just a fraction. "It's late."
"I'm not going anywhere," you said stubbornly, turning back toward the bar.
Jungkook let out a humorless laugh, shaking his head. "Fine. You want to be difficult? Have it your way."
Before you could react, his arm looped around your waist, and in one swift motion, he threw you over his shoulder like it was the easiest thing in the world.
"Jungkook!" you gasped, pounding your fists against his back. "Put me down!"
"Not a chance," he muttered, already weaving his way through the crowd. Heads turned, curious eyes following the scene as you squirmed in his grip. "You brought this on yourself."
"Jungkook, I swear to God..."
"You can yell all you want," he said calmly. "We're leaving."
Once outside, the cool night air hit you like a slap, but it did little to cool the heat rising in your cheeks -from anger or embarrassment, you weren't sure. Jungkook carried you all the way to his car, finally setting you down beside it.
"You're insane," you snapped, your breath coming fast as you straightened your clothes.
"Maybe," he said, stepping closer, his eyes never leaving yours. "I thought you'd have learned to love it by now."
For a moment, you stood there, caught in a standoff.
"Get in the car," he said softly, but there was no mistaking the authority in his voice.
Your pride told you to refuse, to stand your ground and make this even more difficult. But something about the intensity in his eyes made you falter.
Wordlessly, you opened the car door and got in, your pulse still racing.
Jungkook slid into the driver's seat, starting the car without another word. The ride home was silent, the air between you charged with tension. You could feel his occasional glances, the way his hands tightened around the steering wheel every time your bare finger caught the light.
The ride home was silent. He didn't speak, and neither did you. But the weight of everything unsaid filled the car, pressing down on you both.
When you pulled up in front of the building, Jungkook finally broke the silence.
"I'm not going to pretend I know what you're thinking," he said, his voice low. "But if you want to leave, really leave, just say it. I'll let you go."
You turned to look at him, surprised by the vulnerability in his eyes. It was the first time you'd seen him drop his guard like this.
But instead of answering, you opened the door and stepped out, your heart pounding in your chest.
Jungkook stayed in the car for a moment before following you inside. Neither of you said a word as you climbed the stairs, the tension thick enough to cut with a knife.
When you reached your room, you paused in the doorway, glancing back at him.
"Goodnight," you said softly, your voice barely audible.
For once, Jungkook didn't have a clever comeback. He just nodded, his eyes lingering on you a little longer than they should have.
"Goodnight," he echoed, his voice rough around the edges.
As you closed the door behind you, you couldn't shake the feeling that something had shifted between you -something neither of you was ready to admit yet.
The tension between you and Jungkook had been palpable since that night. Every word, every glance, felt like a battle -a silent war that neither of you was willing to lose. And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, you found yourself trapped at one of his company's lavish parties, drowning in champagne and meaningless small talk.
It wasn't your kind of crowd. Polished executives and their equally polished partners swirled around you, exchanging pleasantries and hollow laughs. Being the accessory of the main character of the party wasn't your thing at all. You stood near the bar, sipping your drink, counting down the minutes until you could escape.
That's when you saw him, Jungkook, standing at the center of a group of people, commanding their attention with ease. He was dressed in a sharp black suit, his hair perfectly styled, exuding the kind of confidence that made it impossible to look away.
And then you noticed her.
She was standing beside him, too close, her hand resting lightly on his arm as she laughed at something he said. A striking woman in a sleek red dress, her eyes sparkled with something far more than professional interest.
Your grip on your glass tightened as you watched her lean in, whispering something into his ear. To your horror, Jungkook didn't pull away. Instead, he turned toward her with a slow smile, his eyes dropping deliberately to her lips before meeting hers again.
It was a calculated move -one meant for your benefit. You knew it. He knew it.
Your stomach twisted, a mix of anger and something far more dangerous bubbling in your chest. But you refused to give him the satisfaction of a reaction. Not here. Not in front of everyone.
You turned your back to him, willing yourself to focus on the conversation happening nearby. It was meaningless chatter, something about stock prices, but you latched onto it, pretending you didn't notice the way your pulse was racing.
"Jealous, love?"
The voice was low and teasing, right behind you. You didn't need to turn to know who it was.
"Hardly," you said, taking a sip of your drink without looking at him. "Do what you want. I couldn't care less."
"Is that so?" Jungkook stepped into your line of vision, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Because it looked like you were about two seconds away from throwing your drink at her."
"More like two seconds away from smacking this glass on your head" you finally sentenced.
"That does sound like someone who's jealous"
You forced a smile, meeting his gaze head-on. "Please. If I wanted to make a scene, you'd know it."
Jungkook chuckled, leaning in slightly, his voice dropping to a whisper meant only for you. "Careful, Y/n. You might give me the wrong idea: that you actually care about me and what I do."
Your pulse jumped, but you refused to let him win. "Trust me, I don't." you narrowed your eyes while looking at him "Just be careful of how you behave in front of everyone. We're still married. In private, do whatever the fuck you please".
His smile was slow, almost predatory. "Good. Because I'd hate for you to get hurt playing a game you can't win."
With that, he turned and walked away, leaving you standing there, breathless and furious.
The rest of the evening passed in a blur. You couldn't stop watching him: laughing, smiling, always with her by his side. Each glance felt like a deliberate push, a challenge to see how far you'd let him go.
By the time the party started winding down, you'd had enough. You grabbed your purse and made your way toward the exit, your steps quick and determined.
But before you could leave, a hand wrapped around your wrist, stopping you in your tracks.
"Running away again?" Jungkook's voice was calm, but his grip was firm.
"Let go," you said, your voice low and dangerous.
"Not until you admit it." His eyes locked onto yours, the amusement gone, replaced by something far more serious.
"Admit what?"
"That you care," he said simply.
You yanked your wrist free, your eyes burning with fury. "You're unbelievable."
"And yet, here you are," Jungkook said softly, his eyes never leaving yours. "Still standing in front of me". You didn't know when he stepped so close that your chests were pressed together and your breaths were mixing between you two "I'm only yours, love. You just need to ask me, and I'll declare to you my love without thinking twice".
For a moment, the world around you seemed to fade, the party noise a distant hum. You hated how close he was, how easily he could get under your skin.
But you refused to give him what he wanted. Not tonight.
Without another word, you turned and walked away, ignoring the way your heart was pounding in your chest.
The car ride back was suffocatingly quiet. The air between you felt like a loaded gun, ready to go off at the slightest provocation. Jungkook's hands rested on the steering wheel, his jaw clenched, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. You sat stiffly in the passenger seat, arms crossed, staring out the window in stubborn silence.
The tires crunched on the gravel as the car came to a stop in front of the building. You didn't wait for him to say anything -didn't even glance his way as you pushed the door open and strode toward the front entrance.
But the sound of his footsteps trailing behind you, steady and deliberate, made your pulse quicken.
You barely made it inside when Jungkook's voice cut through the silence.
"Care to explain what that little stunt at the party was all about?" his tone was deceptively calm, but the underlying tension was unmistakable.
You spun around, glaring at him. "Are you seriously accusing me of something after what you pulled tonight? Flirting with her right in front of me?"
Jungkook smirked, stepping closer. "You noticed."
"Of course I noticed!" you snapped, your voice rising. "You made sure I would."
He shrugged, his eyes gleaming with something dangerous. "Maybe. But you didn't have to leave the party like that, running off again like you always do. It's getting old, Y/n."
"Maybe it's because I can't stand being around you," you shot back, your voice trembling slightly with the force of your anger. "Did you think of that?"
Jungkook tilted his head, studying you. "No," he said quietly, stepping even closer until there was barely any space between you. "I think you left because it bothered you. Because for once, you didn't have control, and it drove you crazy."
Your breath hitched, but you refused to back down. "You think too highly of yourself."
"Do I?" his voice was a whisper now, low and deliberate, each word wrapping around you like a challenge. "Then why are you shaking?"
You hated him for being right. Hated how easily he could strip away every layer of defense you had built.
"I'm not..."
"You are," he interrupted, his hand brushing a stray strand of hair from your face. "And it's not because you're angry. It's because you feel something."
You opened your mouth to protest, but no words came out.
His eyes dropped to your lips for the briefest moment before locking onto yours again. "Tell me I'm wrong, and I'll back off," he said softly. "Tell me you don't feel anything, and I'll stop."
You stared at him, your heart pounding so hard it was almost painful.
But you couldn't say it.
The words wouldn't come.
Jungkook's smile was slow and triumphant. "That's what I thought."
He turned and walked away, leaving you standing there, breathless and furious, your skin still burning from his touch.
"You're insufferable," you called after him, but your voice wavered, the heat of your frustration blending with something far more dangerous.
Jungkook stopped mid-step, his back still to you. For a split second, you thought he'd ignore you, that he'd let you stew in your own whirlwind of emotions.
But then he turned, slow and deliberate, his dark eyes locking onto yours like a predator sizing up its prey. His steps were measured, each one bringing him closer, the air between you thick with electricity.
"You know what's really insufferable?" his voice was low, almost a growl. "The way you keep running. The way you keep fighting me when we both know exactly how this will end."
Your breath caught in your throat as he came to a stop just inches from you, his body radiating warmth, his presence overwhelming.
"I'm not running," you said, though it sounded more like a whisper than the firm declaration you intended.
His hand reached out, fingers brushing against your jaw, tilting your face up toward him. His touch was light, almost teasing, but it sent a jolt of heat racing through you.
The space between you disappeared in a heartbeat. His lips crashed against yours, and the world seemed to tilt on its axis. The kiss was anything but gentle -wild, desperate, and filled with every bit of frustration and desire that had built up between you.
Your hands found their way to his chest, clutching the fabric of his shirt as if it were the only thing grounding you. His arms wrapped around you, pulling you flush against him, his grip possessive and unrelenting.
It felt better than anything neither of you could've ever imagined. It wasn't just a kiss -it was a battle, a collision of everything you didn't say, everything you'd tried to ignore.
His lips moved against yours with an urgency that made your head spin, his teeth grazing your bottom lip before deepening the kiss. You gasped when he sank his tongue in your mouth, quickly meeting yours at the same time he cornered you on the wall next to the door, his hand gently cupping the back of your head before moving it back to your neck.
You hated him for making you feel this way, for always knowing how to push you to the edge and catch you before you fell.
But at that moment, you couldn't bring yourself to care.
When you finally pulled back, your breaths were ragged, his forehead resting against yours. His eyes searched yours, dark and unreadable, his chest rising and falling in time with yours.
"Say it," Jungkook whispered, his voice rough and breathless. "Say you don't feel anything."
You stayed silent, your lips still tingling from his kiss.
But the way your hands lingered on his chest, the way your body leaned into his, spoke louder than any words ever could.
He took your silence as the perfect answer, smirking to himself before he linked your lips together again. His fingers sank in your hair at the back of your head, twirling them on some locks to pull from them and throw your head to the side as he kissed you down your neck.
"You're absolutely everything I've ever fucking dreamed of" he heavily whispered on your skin. "I want to admire you, worship your body and make love to you so you'd meet a devotion you had never seen in your life. But hell... when you look at me that way..." his thumb brushed over your cheekbone "I want to ruin you so bad, show you no one will fuck you so good to make your ears beep so loud you won't be hearing your own pleas when you ask me to stop".
Your kiss grew more passionate, your breaths coming in ragged gasps, when he kissed you again. His hands began to wander, tracing the curve of your back, the swell of your hips. You could feel the hardness of his body against yours, and it sent a thrill through you, craving for something you didn't know you were desperate for. You moaned softly into his mouth, pressing yourself against him, at the same time his hands held your hips to keep your body glued to him.
Jungkook broke the kiss, his lips trailing down your neck again, nipping and sucking at the sensitive skin. You arched my back, a soft sigh escaping your lips, when his fingers brushed against the little skin that was shown off through the cleavage of your dress. It frustrated you, but it also felt so good the way your body responded to his touch without a resistance, your nipples hardening against the fabric of your bra, your entrance clenching around nothing as you kept waiting to feel him inside you.
When he looked down at you once again, his hands moved down to the zip of your dress, his thumb brushing on your skin while his other fingers slid the material down. He didn't need to ask you, he didn't need to tell you, you helped him take off your dress.
His eyes darkened as he took in the sight of you, his breath hitching. You were definitely better than he could've ever imagined. No light pajamas would ever compare to the vision in front of him.
You reached for the hem of his black shirt, pulling from the buttons to reveal his toned chest. Jungkook had to hold back the growl in his throat when you ran your fingers over the muscles, feeling the heat of his skin, making him sure your fingerprints were burning every inch you were moving through.
He wasn't going to let you take control so easily though.
He lowered his head all of a sudden, capturing one of your nipples in his mouth through the lace of your bra. You gasped, your hands fisting in his hair as a way to control your own self. He teased and suckled, his other hand cupping your breast before he dragged his fingers down with the fabric, exposing the flesh, his thumb rubbing against your nipple before he pinched it with his index. You could feel the wetness pooling between your legs, your body aching for more.
Jungkook slipped the straps of your bra off your shoulders, letting it fall to the floor. He took his time, exploring every inch of your body with his mouth and hands. He made you squirm beneath him, he filled your head with pleas you never thought would ever be aimed at him, your body was on fire for him.
You reached for his belt, unbuckling it slowly. He lifted his hips to help you, his jeans and boxers coming off in one swift motion. You looked down at him, your eyes widening at the sight of his hard length. He was thick and long, the tip glistening with pre-cum. You licked your lips when a sudden urge to taste him overwhelmed you. Was it how sexy he actually was? Or how bad you wanted him to beg for you and finally accept you were in control? Maybe both?
You leaned down on your knees, not wasting a moment before taking him into your mouth. He groaned, his hands tangling in your hair as your tongue swirled around him. You sucked and licked, your head bobbing up and down at a tortuous speed. You could feel him getting harder, his hips thrusting gently. You took him deeper when he pushed you lower, your nose brushing against his skin to look up to him.
And hell, if that image wasn't the best sight ever...
He pulled you up with one swift motion, your lips still parted to the size of his length when he crashed his lips against yours again. Your back slammed against the door, and your head banged against it the moment he pulled your panties down and slid two fingers in you. His thumb brushed over your clit gently, slowly, which was opposite to the way his curved digits moved and rubbed against your walls.
He earned another moan from you, and his cock twitched in the air against your body once more.
"Who do you belong to, Y/n? Who owns you now?" his voice was thick and raspy as he whispered. His voice was a mix of cockiness and need to prove you always belonged to him.
The moment you tried to move your head forward to rest on his shoulder, his fingers wrapped around your throat and stuck your head against the wood to keep your eyes fixed on him.
You didn't know what to do with your arms, how to keep yourself on your feet, but you did know you had to keep your eyes fixed on him.
"My love" he almost sang when he felt the way your walls clenched around him and your clit throbbing "I've only been yours" his digits squeezed your throat tighter, unaware of how that dragged you closer to your orgasm.
Your body squirmed and folded under his grip when that hurricane hit you, yet he didn't stop. His movements were more delicate and slower, but he fingered you through your orgasm until he felt your breathing settling again.
Your lips were parted when his wet fingers slid through them, and you blindly obeyed, closing your mouth around his digits to lick every drop of his work of art. Jungkook barely gave you time to let go of them before his lips crashed against yours again, his tongue looking out for yours to taste you directly on it.
You were so addictive.
Jungkook picked you up effortlessly, humming at your legs wrapping around his waist, as he made his way to his bedroom.
When he let you down on his mattress, he couldn't help but admire the way your naked skin stood out so clearly while lying over his sheets, dying to twirl his fingers on those locks spread over his pillow. You brought in him a feral attitude he didn't know was so strong.
You looked up to him, eager for what was to come, your body ready to jump as he kneeled on the bed and crawled to you. His hands parted your legs easily, resting your calves on his thighs when he redirected his length to you.
He rubbed the head of his cock against your clit, making your moan. "You're so wet," he whispered, his voice hoarse with desire. "Will you let me fill you up? Hmm?" he looked up to you while still rubbing himself against you "Let me mark you now that you've finally accepted that you're mine".
His words, the idea, the look in his eyes... all of them influenced you to finally nod.
He slid into you slowly, his eyes locked on yours. You gasped, your body stretching to accommodate him. He felt big, bigger than you could've guessed when you took him in your mouth. You wrapped your legs around his waist, pulling him deeper, until your hips met and you both moaned with relief.
You stayed like that for a few seconds, giving the two of you time to get used to each other before he began to move, his hips thrusting against yours. The sound of your bodies coming together filled the room, your moans and gasps echoing around you. You could feel every inch of him, the sensation overwhelming.
"You feel so good," he groaned, his forehead resting against yours. "So tight and wet." he rubbed his nose on yours. "It was really worth it to wait for you".
You clung to him, your nails digging into his back. "Harder," you whispered, your body aching for more.
He obliged, his thrusts becoming faster and deeper. The bed creaked beneath you, the sound of your bodies slapping together filling the room. You could feel your orgasm building, your body tensing in anticipation.
He reached between you, his fingers finding your clit at the same time his lips found your mouth. He rubbed it in time with his thrusts, sending you spiraling over the edge. You cried out, your body convulsing around him as waves of pleasure crashed over you.
He continued to move, his own body tensing as he chased his own release. You felt him getting harder, his thrusts becoming more erratic. With a final thrust, he groaned, his body shaking as he came deep inside you, his load hitting a deep spot.
You lay there for a moment, your bodies slick with sweat, your breaths ragged. He rolled off you, pulling you into his arms. And as much as that feeling felt foreign, you didn't push it away. Instead, you snuggled closer to him.
The weeks after that night were nothing like the stormy start of your marriage. Slowly, without even realizing it, you began to lower your defenses. Jungkook softened in his own way, his sharp-edged words losing their sting, replaced by warm glances and lingering touches.
It wasn't love -at least, that's what you told yourself- but it was something dangerously close. You found comfort in his presence, in the late-night conversations you shared after you agreed on sharing bed with him, the stolen moments of laughter, and the way he made you feel like you were the only person in the world when he looked at you.
The night he was officially named the head of the company, the entire building was alive with celebration. People congratulated him left and right, raising glasses in his honor, praising his charm, his brilliance, and his unstoppable rise to power. You stood by his side, smiling softly as he greeted his investors and thanked his board.
But despite the glamour, something felt off. Jungkook was different -detached, colder than usual, like the man you first met. He didn't seem to notice your growing unease.
Later that evening, after slipping away for a moment to get some air, you made your way down a quieter hallway in the building. As you rounded a corner, voices stopped you in your tracks.
It was Jungkook's.
"You're really settling into this husband role, huh?" the voice was familiar -Eunwoo's, you realized after a second.
His tone was light and teasing, but it was what came next that made your blood run cold.
Jungkook let out a low chuckle. "Don't get carried away. This marriage means nothing. It was a deal, plain and simple. I finally got what I wanted"
There was a pause, followed by the sound of a glass clinking.
"And the rest?" Eunwoo asked, his voice taking on a more serious tone. "Sleeping with her?"
Your breath caught in your throat, your heart hammering painfully in your chest.
"That's just part of the game," Jungkook said casually, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "Keeping her close keeps everything in control. She's predictable now. She's exactly where I need her."
Your vision blurred, your mind racing to process what you'd just heard. Every moment you'd spent with him, every touch, every whispered word in the dark -it had all been a lie. A calculated move in a game you didn't even know you were playing.
The sound of their laughter echoed down the hallway, cutting into you like a blade.
You turned and walked away before they could notice you, your steps quick and unsteady. Your chest ached, a painful mix of anger and heartbreak constricting your lungs.
By the time you reached the main hall, the noise of the party felt like a distant hum, your surroundings spinning as you tried to catch your breath.
You thought you had started to know him. You thought maybe, just maybe, there was something real between you.
But you were wrong.
You were nothing more than a pawn in his game -a game you never agreed to play.
The rest of the night at the party, you avoided him like the plague, your attitude a huge contrast to how you behaved when the night had started. Whenever Jungkook tried to approach you, you found an excuse to step away -chatting with guests, refreshing your drink, even pretending to admire the floral arrangements like they were the most fascinating thing in the world.
"Y/n" his voice caught you off guard as you lingered near the exit, your hand brushing the stem of an untouched champagne flute. Jungkook's dark eyes studied you, his brow furrowed in concern. "What's going on? You've been distant all night."
"I'm just tired," you said flatly, forcing a tight smile. "It's been a long day."
His frown deepened, but he didn't press further. Not yet.
The ride home was quiet -tense in a way that made the air between you feel suffocating. Jungkook sat beside you, his eyes occasionally flicking toward you, as if waiting for you to explain what was wrong. But you kept your gaze fixed out the window, your thoughts swirling in chaos.
Once you were back home, you made a beeline for the stairs, wanting nothing more than to put distance between you as you closed yourself back in your room.
"Y/n" his voice was sharp now, demanding. You stopped halfway up the stairs, your hand gripping the banister tightly. "Talk to me. What's going on?"
You turned slowly, meeting his gaze. The man you had once started to trust, the one who had held you so tenderly just nights ago, now felt like a stranger.
"I want a divorce."
The words fell from your lips with a finality that hung heavy in the air.
Jungkook froze, his eyes widening for a split second before narrowing dangerously. "What did you just say?"
"You heard me," you said, your voice calm despite the storm raging inside you. "You finally got what you wanted. You're head of the company now. There's no need to keep up this farce anymore."
His jaw tightened, his hands curling into fists at his sides. "Is that what you think? That this was all just some business arrangement, and now it's over?"
"Isn't it?" you shot back, your voice rising. "You've gotten everything you wanted, Jungkook. There's no point in pretending anymore."
"You're unbelievable," he growled, stepping closer. "You want to throw everything away just like that? After everything we've been through?"
You laughed bitterly. "What exactly have we been through, Jungkook? Lies? Manipulation? This marriage was never real. It was just a means to an end for you."
His eyes darkened, his lips pressing into a thin line. "And what if it wasn't?"
You crossed your arms, refusing to let him sway you. "It doesn't matter. I'm done."
"You're not done," he said, his voice low and dangerously calm. "You don't get to decide that impulsively."
"It's not an impulse," you snapped. "This was part of our deal since the beginning. I've made up my mind."
Jungkook's eyes burned with fury, but beneath it, there was something else -something raw and unguarded. "And when exactly did you make up your mind about it, huh?" he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I think it's better for both of us," you said, ignoring the way your heart clenched at the look in his eyes.
But Jungkook wasn't having it. His hand gripped the banister beside you, his body blocking your path. "No," he said firmly. "We're not done. Not until I say we are. And you're not leaving," Jungkook said, his voice steady but barely restrained, his body now fully blocking your path. His gaze locked onto yours, fierce and unrelenting.
"Move, Jungkook," you said through gritted teeth, trying to push past him. "I'm done having this conversation."
His hand shot out, gripping your wrist -not hard, but firm enough to keep you from walking away. "No. We're going to finish this right here"
You glared at him, your pulse racing. "What's the point? You made it clear I was just a means to an end. Now that you're head of the company, what reason is there for us to stay married?"
"Because this isn't just about the company!" Jungkook snapped, his voice rising, frustration boiling over. His chest heaved with each breath, and for the first time, he looked genuinely unhinged, like he was losing control of everything he'd carefully built.
You yanked your wrist free, your eyes burning with unshed tears. "Then what is it about? What part of this marriage was real to you? Tell me!"
His silence was deafening. His jaw clenched, his eyes searching your face for something -anything. But no words came.
Your heart twisted painfully in your chest, and you laughed bitterly, shaking your head. "Exactly. You can't even answer that."
Jungkook's eyes darkened, his frustration tipping into something dangerously possessive. "You really want to know what's real?" he said, stepping closer until there was barely an inch of space between you. "You." his voice was low, his eyes burning into yours. "Every damn second with you was real"
But for some reason, those words that night felt like the most painful stab at your chest. If there was something clear to you that night, it was that Jungkook never really cared for you, but his own control over you. That idea alone made your head spin, trying to decipher if all of his words in that moment were part of the act as well.
His proximity sent a jolt of heat through you, but you refused to back down. "Words mean nothing, Jungkook. Actions do."
"Then watch me," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Before you could say another word, his lips crashed against yours in a kiss that stole your breath. It wasn't soft or sweet -it was raw and consuming, a war between his frustration and desire. His hand cupped the back of your neck, holding you in place as his lips moved against yours with an urgency that made your head spin.
You tried to fight it, to remind yourself of everything you'd just overheard, but your body betrayed you. Your hands gripped his shirt, pulling him closer even as your mind screamed at you to push him away.
His tongue swept across your bottom lip, coaxing a soft gasp from you, and he took the opportunity to deepen the kiss. It felt like drowning, like falling too fast and too far, and you hated how easily he could unravel you.
When he finally pulled back, your hand slapped across his face, making it turn. He stayed in that position for a few seconds, until he finally moved his head back up, his eyes searching yours, dark and unreadable. "You think I don't care?" he whispered, his voice hoarse. "You're wrong."
Your heart thundered in your chest, and for a fleeting moment, you believed him. You believed every word, every touch. But the sting of his earlier betrayal still lingered, refusing to let go.
"I can't do this," you whispered, your voice breaking. "Not like this".
Not when you couldn't trust him, or know what he was saying was real or not. Not knowing when he was playing with you or showing off his feelings.
It was too much.
Jungkook's grip on you tightened, his thumb brushing against your cheek. "Yes, you can. You're not leaving."
"I don't want to be near you" you let go of his grip once again. "You disgust me. I can't even stand being near you right now. Who knows? Maybe it had always been like that and now that the reason that kept us together is gone I can be honest with the two of us. Be honest with yourself, too".
The next afternoon, sunlight streamed through the kitchen windows, casting a warm glow across the marble countertops. You sat at the kitchen island, quietly picking at your lunch, your mind still tangled in the events of the previous night. Sleep had been elusive -every word, every touch, every kiss replaying in your head on an endless loop.
You were lost in thought when the sound of the front door slamming snapped you back to reality. Heavy footsteps echoed down the hall, growing louder until Jungkook appeared in the doorway, his expression dark and unreadable.
Without a word, he reached into his coat and pulled out a stack of papers. He strode over to you and threw them onto the counter in front of you, the crisp white pages fanning out across the surface.
Your heart stopped for a second as you glanced down at them: "Divorce Agreement". Signed.
"You wanted this, right?" Jungkook said, his voice cold and biting. "There. You've got it. Congratulations, you're free."
You looked up at him, stunned into silence, your fork frozen in mid-air. His eyes were like shards of ice, his usual warmth completely gone. He looked almost... victorious, but underneath it, you could sense something else, some of his vulnerability was still obvious in his eyes.
"Jungkook, I..."
"You don't need to say anything" he interrupted, his voice dangerously calm. "You made it clear last night that this marriage means nothing to you. So, I'm giving you what you want. No more pretending. No more games."
Your chest tightened, and for a moment, you struggled to find your voice. "You think this is what I want?" you finally said, your voice trembling.
"Isn't it?" he shot back, his eyes narrowing. "You were the one who asked for the divorce. I'm just making it easy for you."
You swallowed hard, your throat burning. "You're unbelievable."
Jungkook crossed his arms, leaning against the counter with a bitter smirk. "No, what's unbelievable is that you think you can just walk in and out of my life whenever you want. You're the one who pushed me away, Y/n. I'm just giving you the freedom you begged for."
"Don't you dare act like you're some kind of victim here," you snapped, rising to your feet. "You lied to me, acting like you cared, like you were into me. You said you were after me long before all of this happened... Bullshit! You used me for your business, just like you admitted to Eunwoo. But I was dumb as fuck to believe we were more than that".
His eyes flickered with something -surprise, perhaps, or regret- but it was gone in an instant, replaced by that same infuriating calm. "So, that's what this is about," he muttered. "You overhear one conversation, twist it in your head, and suddenly I'm the villain?"
"I didn't twist anything," you said, your voice shaking. "I heard exactly what you said. That I'm just a pawn in your game. That sleeping with me was just part of your plan. Hope you enjoyed the bit of control you had while you fucked me."
Jungkook laughed, but it was a hollow, bitter sound. "You really think that's all you are to me?"
"Isn't it?" you challenged, your heart pounding so hard it hurt. "Tell me I'm wrong."
The silence that followed was deafening. His jaw clenched, his eyes searching yours for a long, agonizing moment. Then, slowly, he stepped back, his expression hardening.
"You already made up your mind," he said quietly. "So what's the point in convincing you otherwise?"
Your breath caught in your throat, tears stinging your eyes. You wanted to scream at him, to demand answers, to tear down the walls he had so carefully built around himself in less than a few days. But instead, all you could do was stand there, your heart breaking all over again.
"Fine," you whispered, your voice barely audible. "If that's how you want it."
He nodded once, his face devoid of emotion. "It's what you wanted, remember?"
Annoyed, you reached for a pen, signing up the papers next to him, slamming it against the table before getting up and walking away, leaving the papers on the counter in front of him. The sound of the front door slamming shut echoed through the house, and for the first time since the start of your marriage, you felt truly alone.

A/N: Hiii I am BAAACK! 🫡 This story is finally seeing the light of day after 3 years. I feel a little rusty, especially this being my first new JK series in 1.5 years! But it's also been a bit rough getting back into writing (and in Tumblr) after so long and after the year that was, so there won't be a schedule for chapter releases and I'll probably be a lot slower than usual. I wasn't sure if I was gonna go back to writing but I realized that I've missed interacting with you guys and screaming about stories so I do hope you give this some love. Fair warning that it's a really slow burn and some scenes are reminiscent of k-dramas. There are also sensitive and triggering topics so please proceed with caution!
And lastly, my biggest love and deepest gratitude to @wonwoonlight who's been the sweetest and loveliest person to talk to about everything, including this story. 🫶🏼 I give her credit for her amazing photos of Seoul (check moodboard) and for being the playlist manager. Please send her love as well!💕
