What was this? Some kind of sick joke? Part of him wants to believe that Sonic’s just pulling his leg, the rest knows that the Sonic he’s familiar with would have let up by now. And as it stood, Shadow looked utterly affronted by the realization that, somehow, this wasn’t who he thought it was.

A swirl of emotions bubble up in his gut. He never thought he’d be so disappointed to not run into the Blue Blur. But there he was, feeling a sickening sort of emptiness form in the pit of his stomach. It felt so strange to suddenly not be cast into that familiar role of two rivals, spitting insults and dares at each other every chance they got. But maybe he could work with this… Maybe he could get used to it, just for some shred of familiarity. His expression hardened as he crossed his arms.

“Real deal, huh? I doubt that… I think you’re the fake hedgehog around here!“

Had he said the wrong thing? It wasn’t like he’d lied- he’d just told this guy the truth, but he hadn’t taken it well at all! Sure, if he was confused with someone else, then some confusion made sense.

But instead- was that guy angry?

“Fake hedgehog? No way!” Well, whatever this guy’s deal was, Sonic wasn’t going to stand around and take that. If he was gonna get rude, then so be it. “I’m Sonic, the one and only! How can I know that you’re not some faker, then?”

Which- to be fair, it was probably a new experience, and Sonic knew that. But he figured it was always easier to break the ice by letting out the elephant (or rather, hedgehog) in the room.

“Whoa!” Sonic came to a quick halt from his run- it felt so weird to be going so slow, and in a strange way, it made his reaction time feel worse. But that didn’t stop him from running into the kid he’d been trying to avoid- but it was at least at the speed of a normal person running, and not the speed of a car that he’d been running at. “Sorry about that! You just came outta nowhere!”

Says the guy who’d just ran out of nowhere.
