11. Dear
âI called you dear,â Jack answered with a smile. âDonât get too hung up on it, I call lots of people that. I donât mean anything by it.âÂ
Hannah giggled a bit and shook her head. âNo, youâre nothing like Hotch. I canât even imagine you be that serious.â Though, Hotch probably had to be very serious to handle the work. She had met him outside work and he was different then. âYeah, but too many donât. People generally donât get job theyâre bad at, especially not in the FBI.â She had never fully understood the way people seemed to distrust their abilites. Hannah new she was good at what she did and she therefore had confidence in her work. âWithout evidence, the unsubs the restof the team arrest would go free.â And most of the evidence came through her.
âNeither can I, honestly. I sometimes wonder how he manages to do it. Itâs like he turns off all other distractions and is able to focus on the task at hand so easily.â It was something that Jack envied, if he were being honest. To be able to turn off your mind to everything else but what you were doing right then. It would certainly help his grades in school improve more. âThat makes sense, I suppose. If thereâs nothing to prove they did the crime, then what would even be the point of arresting them, right?â he added, nodding to answer his own question.
âIâm Jules Callaghan with the SRU and you need to come     with me. Right now,â Jules repeated, the boy needed to get     out of there as soon as possible.Â
âIâm not going anywhere until you tell me whatâs going on,â Jack stated, staring defiantly at her. He usually followed peopleâs orders, but he didnât know what the SRU was or even if this lady was legit.
âYeah, waiting sucks.â Hannah agreed and wrinkled her nose a little. âAre you waiting for something specific?â As she had said just a minute ago, Henry wasnât here often anymore and maybe the reason he was here now was a specific one.
Before he could say anything else though, Hannah noticed that the coffee were finished and poured some in a cup together with milk and some sugar. âI guess you donât drink coffee?â And he shouldnât, studies showed that caffeine consumption wasnât good for children and teens under the age of 18.
âYes, itâs generally safer, unless Iâm handling something that contains an infection and I do need to get out onthe field and collect evidence, but I very rarely meet the serial killers themself. Which is good since I donât have a licence to carry a gun.â And she didnât really feel like getting shot by a psychopath.
Henry looked up at her, questioning whether he should tell her or not. It was more of wondering if he could trust her not to say anything to anybody about it, because he didnât exactly want people to know what he was going to be up to that day. At least not yet.Â
Happy for the subject change before he was able to answer, he shook his head. âNo. My parents donât let me have much caffeine. They donât want me to become addicted to it like they are,â he told her seriously, though he laughed slightly at the admission.
âInfections donât sound fun, but being out in the field and not worrying about being kidnapped or killed by somebody does. And if you donât have a gun you can carry around with you, that would just make it even worse,â he added with a small sigh.Â
It had sounded rather cute, right up until Jackâs last words. At that, Taissaâs face screwed up a little in disapproval. âOh. Thatâs not very nice⊠Might be best if you just stayed away then. Although you know me; I always go for the safest option.â She paused to think for a second. âMaybe observe her for a bit, if you really do like her. Thereâs a chance you could be wrong.â
Jack shrugged, unsure whether he would continue looking into it or not. He did really like this girl and thought she was pretty, but the chances of being burned seemed too high for his liking. âI might do that. I also might just pull her aside at the next game and see whatâs going on. It seems risky, but... Hopefully Iâll be able to figure out what she wants from all this.â It was a long shot, he knew, but one he was willing to take.

11. Dear
âI called you dear,â Jack answered with a smile. âDonât get too hung up on it, I call lots of people that. I donât mean anything by it.âÂ
âI think most of us see you as an own individual, I mean, I do anyway, even if I also see you as Hotchâs son.â Hannah tried to explain with a small shrug. She knew that she was the only one who hadnât seen Jack grow up, she had only worked with the team for three years and he had already been a teen then. âOh, I donât dislike myself. I know Iâm smart and a valuable member of the team, even though Iâm not an agent or carry a gun.â She might not be as smart as Reid, but she was definitely gifted. When it came to things outside her intellect, well that was something else.
âThatâs a relief to hear. Iâd rather not be compared to my father all the time, because Iâm really not anything like him. At least, not from what Iâve been told.â Or what heâd noticed. While his father was all serious all the time, Jack was more of a jokester who liked to keep things light. Though he was rather focused on his studies and soccer. âThatâs good. People need to have confidence in their abilities, and Iâm sure your job is just as useful to the solving of crimes as everyone elseâs.â Everyone had a role to play after all. At least, thatâs what he was always told during group projects and before soccer games. He could only assume it was the same in the workplace.Â
âMaybe you can give some of that time to me? I seem to lack a few hours of each day.â Which they all did. There was always things to do and too little time to do it on. It didnât get better by the fact that she got more and more field work, not that she didnât like it. She actually liked field work more than she had anticipated, but it might have something to do with the team itself and not just her assignments.
âOh, you know, the usual. Psychotic killers and psychopaths. Or for me personally, the usual three B:s.â When she noticed Henryâs somewhat confused face, she smiled. âBugs, blood and bones.â she explained, forgetting that not everyone knew what she talked about when she mentioned her three B:s.
âI will gladly transfer it over to you. I hate having to sit around waiting for things. Itâs really annoying.â He sighed, wishing that time would go by faster on days like these. Not that he was planning to tell anybody what he had planned, just that he was excited about it. Now, when he was in school, time went by even slower than it was now, and that was worse. Trying to wait for classes to get over and the final bell to ring was like torture.Â
âThe three Bâs?â he asked, unsure of what she was talking about. When she further elaborated, a look of dawning and comprehension passed across his face. âRight, that makes sense. Your job sounds a lot more exciting than my momâs. I would much rather study those things than try to go out and capture serial killers. Seems too risky, honestly.âÂ
âDonât mention it,â Taissa responded with a genuine smile, leaning back in her seat once more and picking at her box of fried noodles with chopsticks. âSo, uh, who was this girl anyway? Does your dad know about her?â
Jackâs eyes went wide at the mention of his father and he shook his head. âNo, no. He doesnât know, and I want to keep it that way for now. Sheâs just this girl from a rival school. Weâve played them in soccer a few times and sheâs a cheerleader for the other team. Weâve hung out a couple of times, but part of me thinks she might be doing it as some kind of joke, or bet, or something.â

11. Dear
âI called you dear,â Jack answered with a smile. âDonât get too hung up on it, I call lots of people that. I donât mean anything by it.âÂ
âSorry⊠Iâll try not to.â She understood that it must be annoying for Jack to be viewed as that by everyone. Honestly, she thought about him like that, because.. well, he wasnât bad looking, but he was Hotch son and much younger than her. Still, it wasnât wrong to silently appreciate his attractiveness.. right? âItâs okay, Iâm just not used to being called things like dear, itâs mostly just Lark or Lab-Girl.â
âYou donât have to apologize. I just wish people would realize that Iâm my own person yâknow? Not Hotchâs son.â Jack shrugged. Heâd been seen that way his whole life. He knew thatâs what happened when you grew up with the BAU, but it didnât make it any easier, especially now that he was 18, and technically an adult. âEveryone should be called a nice name every once in a while. To help with their self-esteem and all.âÂ
