I still have personal dread—believe me, I still wake up wondering why am I here and not wanting to get out of bed. But it’s so familiar now that I understand it and I can identify it and it doesn’t have any persuasion over me anymore, because I figured out how to work with it. But now there’s this new thing. The big question: Who are we? But I like that. I like using the plural pronoun now. It feels like I’m growing up. (x)

I’d like to thank Justin [Vernon] for his love and hospitality. I was going through a rough time when I was trying to finish my record and I was having a cosmic existential crisis. I came out here to Eau Claire and he was very kind and hospitable. And I got to work in his studio and I got to wander the woods and cry in the cornfields. I had a moment with God, with nature, right here in this landscape. So, it means so much to me.

The 21 songs on Aporia are tightly crafted, resonating with a gem-like intensity, made in the spirit of the New Age composers who sanded off the edges of their synths’ sawtooth waves. Aporia approximates a rich soundtrack from an imagined sci-fi epic brimming with moody, hooky, gauzy synthesizer soundscapes, suggesting the progeny of a John Carpenter, Wendy Carlos, and Mike Oldfield marriage -- but it stands apart from these touchstones and generates a meditative universe all its own.
