His reputation? Sure enough, her father only did mention how good Gen is in terms of martial arts. Was there something more to him? Of course, it didnât matter to Fai. Right now, she really want to be trained by him.
âAll I know about you is youâre good in terms of martial arts. Thatâs about it. Iâm willing to learn more! If I am not worthy then I would like to know how should I prove myself? If I need to endure hardships, I shall do it!â
This girl was a naive fool. Yet... So strong-willed. There had to be a reason why she wanted to learn under him, to become stronger. What possible reason would someone as young as her have to undertake even the most grueling training under someone as stubborn as the old assassin? The source of such determination was interesting to Gen.
âProve to me, that you are worthy. There are two things you have to do for that. And remember, once you go on this path, you canât go back. Training under me is not anything to take lightly, child! Iâm warning you, this is your last chance to turn back.â
@sou-ki
Lights flickered, the poorly signaled radio was playing static-filled music, and Gordon lay back in his office chair, munching away at a few doughnuts, sighing. Heâs never had a slow day before, and unlike the usual Policeman who would be relieved that no one was causing crime, Gordon CRAVED action, the thrill of catching a criminal!! But today, it appeared that the most action he would get was swatting a wandering fly.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a ring came from the front room. Excitement rushed through the manâs body as he frantically scrambled to answer the telephone. But, the excitement quickly turned into disappointment when Gordon learned that it was just his daughter calling from Kindergarten to come and get her. It was two-thirty, wasnât it?
Gordon never took his work car to pick up his daughter, too many kids would get distracted and not let him leave, so instead the burly man walked through the neighborhood, with his trusty tonfa at his side. As he walked through the peaceful park, a rather loud scream was heard within the distance. The shout was directed towards the police! After adjusting his hat and equipping his tonfa, Gordon rushed to see what was going on.
As he ran towards where the scream was, a particularly red skinned man passed him, nervously bellowing about some assassin following him. Before Gordon could ask who he was, the man was gone. Turning towards his left, the cop was disappointed to see an elderly man by his lonesome. With a sigh, Gordon approached this man. So much for an assassin.
â âscuse me old timer but, do you know what that man was screaminâ about? He said somethinâ about an assassin but, I couldnât hear through all his blubberinâ.â
Just his luck. Gen just wanted to enjoy a normal, peaceful day. A nice, normal walk. But of course nothing could go his way, Some would call it karma, perhaps. But he didnât believe in that nonsense. âYou red buffoon.â the old man muttered under his breath, as the Turkâs frantic screaming had attracted the attention of a police officer.
âAppearances can be deceiving. Someone of your profession should be familiar with that concept, no? Assumptions will get you killed in the field, officer.â the ex-assassin mused out loud, smirking a slight bit. It wasnât the smartest idea to mess with the law, especially given his past. But he couldnât help but try to school those who went around making false assumptions.
âPay no attention to that man. He doesnât listen to logic or reason. He didnât care.â Gen sighed. That Turk had made his day a lot harder. If it came to that, he would fight. But preferred not fighting.
âOr do you need to question me?â
â Bet you wanks missed me, eh? Thatâs right, Birdieâs cominâ outta retirement!! The food just ainât as good without all of ya âere! â
â âŠ.âey, donât go lookinâ at me like that, I ainât tryinâ to get mushy or nothinâ!! I-Iâm just âungry is all!! âavenât âad me lunch yet!! â
âThe coupon that I gave you as customary for birthdays should still be valid, if you want something different from the, âfoodâ that you usually eat.â
âIâm sorry. Iâll get straight to the point then.â She clears her throat, a bit nervous to speak on whatâs on her mind, or her wishes.
âI would like you to teach me a thing or two, Master Gen!â She bows all of a sudden as she speak. âI donât know how would I pay you for teaching me but that can be discussed afterwards. My Fatherâs stories inspire me a lot to train!"Â
âYou wish to learn under me?â Gen couldnât help but shoot her a cold glare. Yes, she was only a child, perhaps she didnât know about his other occupation. But if she did, and was still interested in being under his tutelage. âAre you sure that you know what you are asking of me? You do know of my reputation and of what I do? Or perhaps you are unaware?â the old master spoke, standing taller then before, perhaps even seeming more ominous. His blank eyes did that to some people.
âAnswer me, child. Would you have the intent and will to survive under the most grueling martial arts training that you can imagine?â
The mention of an early grave wasnât something young Mister Masters wanted to consider. He lived fast like the cars he collected, and had yet to crash. Both figuratively and literally he was living his life in the fast lane, but the threat of death always lurked. The biggest crack in his armor was his hidden fear of it. Though to master it, he had to accept it or understand it better.
âI believe there is, Master Gen.  I believe the best way to protect life is to understand what takes it.â The exuberant billionaire held his fist up confidently and smiled. âYou wonât regret taking me on as a student, that I can promise you. I know a lot, but thereâs always somethinâ to learn.â
Gen couldnât help but smirk the slightest bit. So, this Masters kid actually did have a deeper reason then he had first thought. For one of the first times, the old master might have to reconsider his opinion of someone. âMost intriguing indeed, boy. So, you think that by learning what takes lives, you can learn how to protect them?âÂ
Indeed, that was a very good point, and Gen somewhat lived by a similar code. âSo, what is it that you think I can teach you? If you want to be my student, you have to learn how to be ruthless and cold when necessary. A future fight may come down to that, if you would be willing to take a life for the greater good, or for your own survival. Would you be able to carry that kind of weight on your shoulders?â
Lars had been on both sides of the spectrum, so he definitely agreed with the elderâs words.
A movie star had apparently visited this restaurant as well. Lars had no idea that it had received that sort of traffic; he was right about assuming the worst in people, especially in his position. He had already experienced the feeling of having someone he considered a friend turning on him, even if it was against her will. Lars pressed his tongue against his molar at the thought of the unpleasant memory.
âI agreeâŠâ He expressed his thoughts aloud.
âPeople only talk that way when theyâve already experienced that sort of betrayal, I findâŠâ
âAnd you would be right to assume it, in a way.â Although he hadnât specifically been betrayed by anyone, let alone anyone close to him, it somewhat felt like that, whenever he would see old colleagues hired to kill him. It was nothing personal, not at all. In fact, it was the sad truth for a retired contract killer. Especially if you were considered a nuisance like Gen was, even though he had tried to live a peaceful life. To an outsider, it would seem like a trail of blood was following the old man, much like a curse.
âAnd I presume that you have felt the sharp, cold steel of betrayal, much like a dagger plunged into unprotected flesh. Or am I wrong?â
He knew he wouldnât have to worry about Gen. The old man was a well-seasoned fighterâŠbut there was only so much a man could do.
He watched in awe as one enemy after the other fell.Â
Blood was splattered all over the roof. He hid behind the wall, heart beating faster and faster, he was frozen to the floor.
Frozen in terror.
Though Gen was formidableâŠto thinkâŠwhat if he became an enemy?
A shudder of the thoughtâŠ
Or worseâŠwhat if he went too far?
Coughing broke the silence, and it caused Fei-Long to look up from his thoughts.
And suddenly, Gen turned and looked right into his eyes before falling to the floor.
âMaster Gen!â he shouted, racing after the fallen man.Â
They really should send more competent assailants to attack him, if they really wanted to get rid of the old man so badly. Did they really think that age and his sickness had worn him down so much? Made his skills dull? Those fools. Perhaps he should teach them a lesson as well. But Gen was above being that petty, If they really wanted him to cull these low ranking cannon fodder, then so be it. He had done enough in his lifetime to be dragged down into whatever kind of place fools like him go to, where he would be confronted by the spirits of those who had not bested him.
The crimson that flooded the floor around him wasnât only from his enemies, but himself as well, not only because of his disease, but because his techniques really werenât meant for groups, a few of them managed to get a hit or two in, something that wasnât good for his frailty-ridden body. He wouldnât allow himself to falter though, he was already one foot in the grave, the old assassin wouldnât half-ass anything: if tonight really was supposed to be his time then so be it.
The more and more he struck though, the less and less of the shadowy forces were left, leaving him standing (as he thought) alone, before finally letting his body take in all the punishment that had been dished out to it, collapsing in a cough. But, of course, his moment of weakness had to be seen by someone.
Taking his breath shakily, Gen thought of what insult to fling at the pig-headed movie star. After all, Fei Long had completely ignored his simple request. But he couldnât really force words out of his throat right now, the taste of blood overtook that urge. He had to settle for just trying his best to do a death glare.
âAhâŠâ Lars could agree that his prowess was usually found in martial artists much older than he was. His circumstances were different however, thanks to his father.
It was no surprised that Gen didnât recognize his face, âI try not to advertise my capabilities.â Lars shared.
Had others come to this older man with ill intentions?
âI assure you, my motivation for coming here was to have lunch,â but now lunch was an after-thought, âmay I ask why you are wary of visitors who are martial artists?â
âThat is a smart move, Iâd say. Itâs best to work from the shadows and get no praise for the good you do then to be lauded as a hero but also painted as a villain in the narratives of your enemies.â
For someone so seemingly young, this foreigner held a surprising amount of knowledge, something that Gen could respect. He had met so many young fighters who were all about getting their name and achievements out there, a few who he had even crossed attacks with.Â
âNot specifically wary, a lot of martial artists who I know visit this place, even a movie star. A bit of precaution goes a long way, as Iâm sure you know. Itâs better to presume the worst of people and be prepared then to always assume the best and be backstabbed. It comes with my trade I suppose.â It still wouldnât be smart to just blurt out that he used to be an assassin in his younger days, that could still lead to some, misunderstandings.
Hunger was what led Lars to the restaurant, just like any other patron. He wasnât at all aware that it was owned by a master martial artist, at least, not until he was approached by him.
He was a much older man, eyes ivory like the beard upon his chin. He implied that Lars possessed the spirit of a warrior, causing the soldier to set down his chopsticks.
Lars got a good look at the other man, pausing before answering, âI was passing by when lunch seemed appealing,â he answered honestly, ââŠbut you mentioned that I have the spirit of a warrior, does that interest you?â
âIndeed it does. There are few who possess these qualities I am not familiar with.â Gen mentioned, stopping by the swede with the somewhat strange hairstyle. âThat comes with being part of the older generation of fighters I suppose.â
âBut you are an unfamiliar face. There could be a plethora of reasons behind that, only one of these would lead to a more, violent outcome.â the old man mused, sitting so that he would face Lars. âI have no reason to doubt your intentions, most assailants have been more stealthy.â
âPutting you out of your misery would be a far better option,â Vega replied, raising his claws as they gleamed menacingly in the moonlight. âIf you want to fight, so be it. By the time this is over, you will be begging me for a merciful death.â
Readying himself into a fighting stance, he is more than ready to kill the former assassin. As Genâs appearance wasnât revolting enough to the matador, he also became softâŠand weak. Emotional attachments should not matter to a killer.
Gen was prepared for a fight, smirking a slight bit under his gray beard, as he beckoned for the Spanish ninja to lunge at him.Â
âLetâs see if that claw of yours is all-show or if it can actually scratch me with it!â Gen taunted, taking his Mantis stance, turning off all unnecessary thoughts. He just had to pinpoint the other assassinâs weak points and take aim. Then perhaps, he could show this egotistical fool his place. Experience was an invaluable asset, but the old martial artist had to be careful to not rely on it too much, lest he want to lie on it like a crutch.
domiitor:
â  Even for an old man you chase your death too eagerly.  Youâll disrupt nothing but a few moments of my time, but I wonât deny you the chance to fight and die. â
â Now come, shall I make you famous? â
âI donât need to ride on your coattails to be famous, criminal. I am infamous in my own right. If anything, you should consider yourself lucky that I have found you worthy to feel the cold, clingy embrace of death.â
Even though the dictator had wrestled himself out of that eternal darkness and torment, perhaps this time, Bison would stay dead. A foolâs hope, but the thought that gave him just a smidgen of reasoning for his action, something that Chun-Li and the Lee twins could accept. This fight was basically suicide. But the old assassin had no trouble accepting that.
âA challenging fight?â Ken almost laughed, but he settled for a brief scoff. âNot too many fights I can think of that would be an actual âchallengeâ for me. Nahâitâs not like that at all.â The younger man shrugged his shoulders and paced from side to side. His blazing spirit could never keep still for too long!
ââI want to broaden my horizons. Not to exactly learn combative techniques only, but the deeper meaning beyond them. Itâs like Master Gouken saysâŠalways look beyond the fist.â
âThat kind of overconfidence will lead you to an early grave, mister Masters.â
âI have seen many fine warriors in my day fall into the same pit. I know you have a family. Doubt is something that keeps you alive, that makes you keep pushing yourself. Donât grow complacent.â
So, this was a bit more interesting then that other Anasatsuken user, Ryu. He just wanted to know about different styles, to âbroadenâ his horizons. Gen could just be giving away the weaknesses of his style to another fighter, but then again... He didnât have much time left, and perhaps the next users of this style would not be as, merciful, as he is.
âYou think there is a deeper meaning behind a style used for killing?â
âYou say that I am blinded by vanity, you old fool? All I see is a man who is ravaged by time to become utterly diseased and hideous.â
Vega was not particularly fond of this man - not solely because of his appearance, but also because of the way he talked down to him. He may be a skilled assassin with many years of experience, but he was little more than a senile old man who does not understand or appreciate the concept of beauty. To lose such a trait would make one wholly unsophisticated and dull. Raking his claws through Genâs skin would teach him a lesson.
âI already await the time that you grow old and ugly, maybe then you can finally remove your blinders and see the truth.â Gen smirked, stroking his beard. It was true that he was sick, he didnât deny that much. But hideous? He was still going strong, his abilities at his peak and his body still holding up quite well. What an exaggeration from that foreign fool.
âI can tell that you are itching to fight me, are you not? Not only are you blinded by your own vanity, but those around you offend you if they are not of the same beauty? What a foolish way to view the world! If you are so easily disgusted, youâd do better to gouge out your own eyes. Itâd be easier then slaying everyone around you!â
âMaster Gen, right?â She asked the old man as she bows at him with respect.
Fai Lin heard so much about him from her father. During her training, her father mentions to her sometimes. She was told that he has both style of a Mantis and a Crane. Fai was in awe as she heard this.Â
Her father warned her about him. He described Gen as.. âtemperamental.â That didnât stop the young woman to give him a quick visit.
âI hope I did not disturb you. I heard stories about you from my father.â
âStories do not always speak the truth. But that would depend on what type of tall-tales youâve heard about me. Most happen to be true.â Gen spoke, keeping a neutral facial expression for a moment. The old assassin had built quite a reputation for himself, both for his ruthlessness and his mastery of multiple styles of martial arts in hopes of making his body the ultimate weapon.
âYou still did not answer my question, girl. What is it that you seek from here?â From the way she called him Master, perhaps she was looking for teaching as well? Unless she was ready to carry on his legacy of the Assassinâs Fist, he probably had nothing to teach her.
He was surprised Gen actually stepped outside. Though that meant his fine-tailored clothing didnât have to risk getting ripped when he threw down with the stuntmen. He had to silently thank Gen for that with a simple nod. Once he faced the master, Ken bowed respectfully to complete his greeting to the elder.
âWell, who knows. I hear the foodâs pretty good, the people are polite, and the fights are always top-notch.â He joked as he gazed toward the establishment. Once his eyes settled back on the older gentleman, Mr. Masters crossed his arms over his firm chest.
âThereâs a long wait between tournaments. Wanted to check-in on ya, and maybe see what I can learn from a master like you, pal!â
The fight comment made the old master shake his head a little bit. These young fighters, always took battling so lightly, or at least so it seemed. Back in his day, fighting was something you did out of survival, you didnât willingly jump into it unless there was something in it for you, other than glory, something more important then menial things like that. These things could include money, protecting someone or stopping someone dangerous. But alas, times were different and Gen did his best to adapt.
âSo youâve also come here seeking my teachings? Your fellow student came here as well, seeking aid. Tell me child, for what reason do you want to learn from me? Is it to win a challenging fight? Or is it something more interesting?â
@sou-kiÂ
continued from x
Hakanâs eyes widened from the sheer speed from this dangerous assassin of an old man!! At first he was panicked, was this old man going to end him RIGHT here? But, when he covered his mouth, Hakan chose to listen to the old man, instead of turn him in like his instinct told him too.Â
Forcefully removing the old manâs hand from his mouth, Hakan began to whisper to him. He thought assassinâs stuck together like family did. Would they really get rid of a fragile old man?
â Hold on a second, you are getting targeted by your old friends?! Why on Earth would they do that to you? Did you not just retire from the âŠ.killing? â
âI guess you really are as clueless as you seem.â Gen sighed, stroking his beard, to make sure it was how he wanted it to be, before turning to face the Turkish man once again.Â
âYou seem to be aware of my profession already, so Iâll do my best to educate you, fool. Having worked for these people before, I know some delicate information. And they want to keep me silent, because I might reveal said information to the police or any other dangerous people, they would much rather have me killed, thus preventing any sort of damage control they would need to do.â
âWas that clear enough for you to understand?â
