so your parents don’t support your religion. meaning that just to praise god, just to believe- you have to sneak out of the house and hide your intentions from your parents. they might think you’re doing drugs…when really you’re praying. but they can’t know that. i take my broken down bike every week- at least i try- and i stuff a scarf in my bag, and start going through the backroads. none of the neighbors can know what i am doing or else the word will get around. just to get to the masjid. the imam knows and lends me the Qur’an, because he knows i can’t have one at home- so he gives me the opportunity to feel it and have my rare dose of authentic faith. he tells me, “sister, your tajweed will get better. keep practicing, inshallah. remember that he is with you wherever you are.” he told me, one day when we are free- he can teach me, and i can learn.
