reader is an unamed vigilante who saves redhood, accidentally learning his identity. what happens when he realizes they run in the same circles?
it happened way too fast. it was pure instinct.
it was just another night in crime alley, you were simply patrolling as an unknown vigilante. these past few years the number of masked people in the city grew, some heroes some not, but they were too flashy. they all wanted to be a symbol of something, hope or fear. but not you, you simply wore an all black suit with a black mask, no theme, no name. people rarely noticed you were there, and if they did then they chalked it up to another bat.
during a break on a fire escape is when you saw it happen, the red hood falling from a considerable height. quickly, you grappled towards his place of landing and assesed the situation. you were able to soften the landing a bit, somehow his bones looked all in place, and if there was any bleeding it might be internal but there was no way to check. the only thing clearly broken, was his red mask.
"red hood, can you hear me?"
no response, worried that the fragment might stab his head or cover up an injury you removed his helmet.
"ugh... that's a no no" the vigilante seemed to be some level of conscious.
You looked at him, picking some of the red shards on his skin and using a first aid kit you always carried with you. Until you stepped back, looking over for any more injuries.
"JASON TODD?!"
"Fuck... you couldn't be any louder? First you remove my mask and then you just yell my identity. I have a headache by the way, it's customary to not yell"
"Sorry I-" it was weird hearing him talk without the voice modifier his helmet provided. The few times you had seen the red hood he sounded like a terrifying beast. But now he just seemed... human.
The man slightly sat up from his position not without a lot of grunting and agony, resting on a wall.
"Youre not gonna take off yours so i can see who you are? It feels like a disadvantage."
"Sorry, prince of gotham, not happening"
"Eh that's fine... if you know who I am you must be a regular attendee of the Wayne events. I'm barely in the public eye unless it's like once a year there."
"Uh huh" you responded, not really caring to help him figure it out while you cleaned other injuries.
"Hm... you don't seem to have many gadgets so maybe your family isn't that rich"
"Wow, rude much? I'm only letting you keep talking and guessing because im sure you're concussed, and if you pass out I'm not able to carry you." You stepped back a bit, looking at the mess that the helmet left on the floor "I'm assuming you don't have a way to communicate with your flock?"
He frowned, looking at the same mess. "I have a hideout not far from here, I'll be okay..." he waited for your name "Oh! Uh yeah no I work alone so I never needed a name. So... another fun mystery for you"
Your watch beeped, a warning that you'd be late for your shift. "Shit! Shit, shit, shit. Here! Take this" You threw a spare mask while running. "Hope you don't die on your way home!"
Entering the kitchen through the employee door, you quickly did your hair trying to sneakily grab a tray and get on the floor, but sadly your boss noticed you.
"Youre late."
"I know, I know. Im sorry, there was an accident"
"I do not care. Stay until the event is done."
Great, now your shift got extended. Sighing, you quickly put on a fake smile and entered the ballroom. Filled with high society attendees being just as fake, whats the big deal with identities if everyone just wears a mask anyway.
It's a few hours into the event when the hosts, the Wayne family, finally show their faces. Bruce Wayne gives a short speech, talking about the cause the fundraiser is held for, but you couldn't honestly care less. Shortly after, Tim Drake takes his place, but people don't pay as much attention.
As you continue serving, you realize Jason Todd is being the most social he has ever been. Frankly, you're surprised he showed up, with the amount of injuries and that he already filled his unspoken quota of events for the year. It's obvious he has a mission, he never talks for more than three minutes with each lady, probably only going off their voice. You really hope he did get a concussion and can't remember the few face details your mask doesn't cover. Still, you avoid any group he talks to, opting to offer beverages after he left or simply swerve.
"Excuse me!"
You wince, you hope in your heart youre not being called on but you know the truth. You quickly walk over to the group of Dick Grayson, Tim Drake and thr cause of your dread, Jason Todd.
"I'm telling you Tim, their watch marked the exact start time of the event. And they must've seen me here. I haven't been in the press since..." he quiets down, maybe because he noticed you offering drinks, maybe because of the subject. He doesn't even look at you as he takes a glass, but he does thank you. "Anyway, you're the one who always has conspiracy theories, back me up here!"
"Rude of you to reduce me to that. And even if I wanted to, I don't have much to go off of. And if Bruce finds out the state you're in, we're all gonna get in trouble. You should've just stayed home"
The group continues their conversation as you quickly walk away and into the kitchen. You place the tray down in between all the chaos and slip into the breakroom. A breath you seemed to be holding escapes you.
The rest of the night is a blur until only the hosts and the wait staff remains. Usually, your shift shouldve ended an hour ago. But due to your tardiness, youre on cleanup duty. At least you can stop smiling.
The waynes are all sat in a round table, youve always heard that most of the time, they like to stay to the end to thank the staff. It seemed odd, with the amount of times youve seen one if not all of them escape their own party but you found it endearing nonetheless.
Finally everythings done, the staff is gathered as Bruce Wayne thanks everyone for their work, you hide your face as best as you can and don't speak. As soon as youre dismissed, youre bolting to get changed and leave.
You start walking home, its too late for public transport to be running and taxis in gotham are a scam. It's only a twenty minute walk, you should be fine until you hear it.
"Stand very still"
Great! Just what you needed! You're getting mugged, at gun point! How fun. This shouldn't be a problem, afterall how can you be a vigilante and not able to defend yourself from a simple mugging. Sure, you're not in your suit but it's not that odd to know how to defend yourself, and you'd do it, if you didn't see the motherfucking redhood with a brand new helmet behind the mugger. It's hard not to roll your eyes at the situation.
"I'd suggest the same"
The terrified criminal turns around slowly.
"I'm not in the mood tonight, so how about you just scurry off" The guy does just that. Red hood watches, making sure he's gone before approaching you.
"Why would you walk alone this late in gotham?"
"Some of us have to work, I just finished my shift." You attempt to change the pitch in your voice. There seems to be some recognition in his demeanour, but wether that is your masked self or work you can't tell.
"I'll walk you home."
"It's alright, low chance i get mugged twice, right?"
"I'd feel better if we don't take that."
The rest of the walk was quiet, and once you reached your destination, with a quick thanks you bolted in.
Quickly throwing your bag on your couch before you sit alongside it, everything that happened through the night hitting you.
my first batfam fic. some disclaimers. ik its very ooc, but this was mainly bc bridgerton took over my fyp and bc im bored af. take it as a crack fic ig! there may be a pt2 or not who know take it or leave it.
CAL.E.B was turned on at 13:04 according to the internal body clock, the first thing it saw was MC, wearing casual clothing instead of her work uniform.
âHello CAL.E.B, some updates. I was a bit confused by your behavior last nightââ
âHave I done something wrong, pipsqueak?â it tested the waters with the nickname, she seemed a bit taken aback but more relaxed.
âNot at all, I think maybe I was the one in the wrong. I was a bit too⌠hostile. I'm probably just worried something will go wrong because your systems all seem to run incredibly well so I'm⌠sorryâ
It's eyes widened âthere's nothing to apologize for! If my behavior was out of line please let me know so i can correct it, pipsqueakâ he caressed her arm.
âWell this⌠mix between Caleb's personality and⌠X-02 programming is a bit off putting since you're so⌠him.â
âWhich one would you rather I chose with you then?â
MC thought for a moment⌠was she seriously doing this? She has come this far but⌠was she going to pretend this is Caleb?
âUse Caleb's personality, there are some limitations of X-02 like needing to use your platform but do your best to pretend you're Caleb. Your undercover mission is me.â
Caleb smiled, that warm familiar smile. âRoger that, pipsâ he ruffled her hair. âHow bout this? You go out, have some fresh air and get some sunlight, don't think I havent noticed how pale you've gotten, and when you come back we can start againâ
She nodded, looking around one more time before leaving the room. Shortly after Caleb heard the apartment door opening and closing. Time to get to work.
On the short time MC was out, caleb had managed to deep clean the apartment and even make her favorite dish, braised chicken [soul note: too lazy to check if the dish was called that but like i took this from infold]
Sound coming from the door alerted him of her presence. As soon as it opened, like a puppy waiting, Caleb was at the door with a smile.
âWelcome home pipsqueak! I made your favoriteâ
Tears threatened to spill out of her eyes as she looked up at him. âThanks Caleb, that sounds amazingâ
The two fell into a routine, MC even developing better technologies to make it seem more real, replacing the platform for a pillow. There were very little hiccups in their act.
âI have a company dinner tomorrow, like a fancy oneâ she said, cutting the steak he'd prepared.
âWant me to join you?â
âI wish you couldâ
âWhy can't I? It's not like I have anything to doâ
She paused. Right. He didn't have anything to do because he wasn't Caleb. He didn't have a job or a passion. His entire existence revolved around her. But he couldn't go with her to public events, what if someone caught on that he was an android? What if someone questioned why he looked like the person whose funeral MC went to 8 months ago?
âYou just can't.â She stated coldly, eyes fixed on her plate. A warm feeling reached her hand, Caleb's hand.
âNeed help picking out your outfit then?â
Caleb ordered and picked out a green drop neck silk maxi dress. It was his favorite shade of green and the dress accentuated her features. She looked so delicate, like a porcelain doll.
âAre you sure about this dress? Maybe I should just not goââ MC said looking at herself in the mirror, interrupted by Caleb's hands on her waist, his head resting on the shoulder.
âTrust me, it's taking everything in me to not make you stay, you look absolutely gorgeous. I cant believe im not gonna join you, pipsqueakâ
Her face was as red as an apple, as she stumbled out of his hold, grabbing her purse âRight well, don't wanna be late! So I'll see you later.â She ran out the door, leaving him with a slight smirk on his face.

âYou're not even realâ MC spat out, her speech muffled by the android holding her cheeks. âOh I'm real alright. You made me a reality the second you denied yours. The moment you uploaded that data to my servers, I became your reality. I am as real as youve made me and whenever you call for your god to help, it's me who'll answer, because I'm all you need in our reality.â
abrupt ending i know. i fell out of love with lads and writing, especially with this fic for personal reasons. i apologize and i apologize for my bad English
hii long time no see, so i wrote this in 2024 and has been sitting in my drafts for a while. im not really in the fandom anymore but! here you have some android caleb
Mc had been numb for a while. Losing a best friend would be hard for anyone, but it's even harder when you have no one else to turn to, to help.
Yes, she had recently reconnected with another childhood friend, Zayne, but it wasn't the same. He was an important doctor and she'd rather not bother him. So she did what she thought was best, drown herself in her work. With nothing else to distract her, she quickly grew in rank, from an assistant, to head engineer in Linkons Hunter Association.
The project that had solidified her role was X-02, the ultimate weapon. Capable of defeating wanderers, protecting civilians and going undercover. Incredibly lifelike, the only uncanny details would be the sharp moves executed in battle, but if the enemy could notice that, then they were already dead.
It wasn't long before the X-02 were mass produced to help hunters, each department having around five customizable models, but she only cared about one CAL.E.B (Calm, Encouraging, Bright).
This android was as capable as any other, maybe even more, having been trained on the data of every message, video, photo, phone conversation, the smallest record of Caleb Xia's existence. MC had spent months going through everything that she was able to save from the explosion or was scattered around their childhood neighboorhood.
Before her stood an exact replica of her dead childhood friend. She double checked every detail on her monitor before sighing, reaching towards the dog tag necklace on her desk and putting it on the android, with one final look she started the program.
Whirring and different sounds of mechanical joints filled the room as she looked on expectantly, for the first time in a year, she felt hope. Purple and orange LED irises met her gaze as a small smile formed on its face.
âHi pipsqueakâ
Without much thought, she rushed into its arms, wrapping her arms around his neck. Her embrace was returned warmly. Fuck, she never thought much of her work but she had somehow managed to imitate his hugs, it was so familiar.
âHi Caleb.â
She felt an arm leave her back, head towards the crown of her head but she stepped back, wiping the tears away.
âAugh⌠sorry I'm a mess. Let's start the calibration process.â
CAL.E.B went still, arms at his side and eyes looking straight ahead.
âModel X-02, device name CAL.E.B. Current personality, Caleb Xia. Pilot of the DAA, Birthday June 13th making me a gemini and 25 years old.â After speaking, the androids' posture relaxed.
âGood. We'll run some mobility tests. Its clear that your arms are working correctly, but please step off the charging platform to check your other jointsâ the android followed the instructions, a warm smile on his face as he looked at the engineer âPlease, take three steps forward, one back. Good, now two to the left, one the right. Amazing!â she cheered before writing some stuff down on the computer.
The android used that time to analyze it's surroundings. It knew about the world it was inhibiting, it had a lot of memories that belonged to the real Caleb. Quickly, it recognized the room as MC's at home workshop. Visions flooded in of moments Caleb and Mc shared, moments it wasn't actually in. Instinctively, it walked towards a cupboard, pulling out a FY-26 model and chuckling.
Mc, hearing the noise quickly turned around and reached towards the plane. âHey, what are you doing?â
âYou still have this?â
âWhatâŚ? Oh! You're calibrating your memories! Good jobâ she took the model and put it back in the cupboard, not noticing the smile faltering on the android face.
âWell, all systems seem to be working in order, so I'll call it a nightâ she walked towards the door, CAL.E.B following behind. âWhat are you doing?â
âCalling it a night.â
âRight⌠but you stay hereâŚâ
âBut we always cuddle a bit before going to sleepâ
âYes⌠me and Caleb did but X-02's must stay in their platforms for safety concerns.â
It's face darkened. It seemed to have trouble separate Caleb behaviors from android protocol, something she should fix tomorrow.
âOh. My apologies Miss MC. Have a good night.â It stiffly walked towards the platform as she left the room. It was⌠odd to see such mechanical actions being done by Caleb's body, but it was also odd for the android to be so attuned with the identity.
The way CAL.E.B worked was using the undercover agent function to pretend it was Caleb, but no other model had clinged to its fake identity this way. Maybe it was because of the amount of data it had or the unclear mission and purpose. But could MC give it one? She didn't have a specific goal she wanted it to fulfill, just wanted her best friend back. Maybe this had been a bad idea⌠sleep on it.
rafayel x mc hurt no comfort. major character death
what if mc overwhelmed by/with guilt after finding out all the sacrifices rafayel has made for her at the cost of lemuria she uses the bond for one last comand. for rafayel to take her heart. it always belonged to him anyways.
Waves crashing along the shore, the sound loud and concerning, a storm brewing in the horizon. The lights blurred by fog guided his way inside, the house was eerily quiet. The big windows showed the gloomy landscape, but Rafayel couldn't care less. It had been a month since he finally tied the knot with his beloved but the joy had never faded.
"Cutie~! Where are you~?" he exclaims in a sing-songy tune, almost skipping through the halls.is eyes could light up the entire building on their own.
"In the bedroom" MC replied, a cold tone reverberating through the halls.
Rafayel stood at the door, a bouquet of flowers hidden behind him and her back facing towards him. a ray of lighting framed her figure for a split second as she pressed her hands on the cold window, breath fogging up the glass when she spoke. He could live in that moment where the light met her body, highlighting every curve. Sometimes he wished he could be the god of time, so he could pause and paint the beauty of every second she breathed.
"Talia told me."
"Oh, well I didn't think flowers were that big of a surprise on our anniversary but i guess that's kind of a bummerâ"
"Iâm not talking about the flowers"
His brow quirks up in a silent question as he placed the flowers on the bedside table before he went to hug her, but she turned around and step back.
"Don't touch me!" his lover hissed, recoiling as if Rafayelâs touch was akin to that of the sun, burning with no mercy.
"Honey, what's going on? What did talia say?"
"She⌠told me about⌠what happened with Lemuria"
"i don't understand"
"She told me about what you did to Lemuria"
"Cutie reallyâ"
"Cut the crap Rafayel! you sacrificed everything? For just me? Are you insane?"
Rafayel stepped back, wide eyed
"mc i justâ im so confused. how could i not save you? I'd give everything for you. Again and again. if you wanted power over all seven seas iâd yield it immediately, even if i didnât posses it." he reached for her hands "And you don't know the full story! It's not as simple as you put itâ"
"Then explain!" She snapped as she backed away from him, her eyes scanned every part of him.
Rafayel sighed "...Can't we have a good time tonight?"
"A good time? How can you want me to ignore this! The guilt's been eating me alive all day waiting to face you." Her words muffled by her tears entering her mouth, lips shaking, closing and opening in a feeble attempt to wipe off the snot dripping down her face. Every inch of her body seemed to grow red, a detail Rafayel had always noticed when she cried. He always found it cute, but now it just seemed to bring an image of her corpse covered in injuries. Almost on reflex, his body inched closer only to retreat almost immediately, wanting to not push her away further.
"And you dont think it ate me up all these years? But I kept it to myself, because I didn't want to put that burden onto you. I worked so hardâ" his hands formed fists, nails digging into his palms as he tried to calm down âso hard to protect you. to give us the ending we always deserved.â
"If you didn't want me to carry it you shouldn't have done it in the first place. How am I worth that much? Tell me! How on earth am I this important to you?"
"Talia should've never told youâ"
"Talia had every right!"
They both looked at eachother, stunned. Awaiting the otherâs next move, arguing wasn't getting either of them to see the others point of view.
"...you can fix this"
"Mc you can't be seriousâ"
"You just need to take the heart back, right?" her breath was rough as tears streamed down her face "I mean, it was never mine to begin with. Iâm sorry I couldn't take better care of it.
"Cutie please, you're rambling. Slow down and breathe." He pleads with her as he grabs her wrist forcing her hand onto his chest, bond mark faintly glowing under her touch âSee? Just match my own, youâll calm down soonâ
A short silence seemed to fall as the couple slowed down, her gaze fixed onto where her hand had been placed. The glow grew stronger as she seemed to push down onto his chest. the quiet suddenly interrupted by unintelligible muttering.
âDarling, please. stop and just breathe⌠I canât take your heart.â
âBut you can!" She exhaled as she remembered something and suddenly sprinted out of the bedroom, leaving him alone to follow with his desperate calls of her name.
He had never hated his homeâs layout as much as he did that night, the unknown of which route sheâd take, what sheâd find. his own forgetfulness and messy lifestyle seemed to be his undoing. walls filled with Lemurian relics, taunting him. His past, his decisions will always haunt him. If he was able to let go of it all, would he be in this same situation?
Once she reached her destination, Rafayelâs storage closet, she rummaged through the drawers before pulling out his dagger. "This will work, right?!"
"MC, please put the weapon down." She followed his wishes to an extent, trying to place it in his hand. The god eventually accepted, believing that if he held it, he'd have the control. He could stop her demise.
"With the authority granted to me by the oceans convent..."
His bond mark glowed, making itself known as panic grew on the artist's face.
"Beloved, pleaseâ" he begged
"I command you to..." Her breath ragged, as he continued to plead for her to stop. "Take back Lemuriaâs heart"
A splat on the expensive carpet was heard accompanied by a sharp gasp. Did it belong to him or her? Or both?
Her smile was warm, her hands held his over the dagger.
"Please... please MC call it off! We can still get you to a hospitalâ your friend! He can save you, please!"
"Rafayel, twist the knife."
A weight fell onto the lemurian as he felt the bond disappear. He wrapped his arms around the body, falling with it to his knees. The muttering came back, but it seemed to be calmer, comforting, a hushing of sorts. He could almost make out some of the words âIt's okayâ, âI love youâ. The pain he felt was almost as if he had attacked himself.
Almost.
Lemurians cries were always seen as beautiful, their sobs a song, their tears the shiniest and most delicate of pearls.
Rafayel's cries were quiet, only his breath was heard and the rolling of pearls flowing out of the room, rolling on the shiny marble floor, stained by the most beautiful shade of crimson.Â
its finally here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you so much for waiting and to sadia my beta reader who did an AWESOME job helping me out. lmk what you think of it!! my askbox is always open

Under the shroud midnight light, your work is whispered about in the gilded halls of nobility. An assassin of efficiency, and utter discretion. Your blade serves the highest bidder, those draped in velvet and adorned by rings and guilt alike. You are both a sword and shadow hidden in the thick of political disputes.
Yet, even the bloodied hands of nobility do not require constant cleansing. When the seasons shift and the power struggles settle, your contracts grow sparse, and you are left to seek coin by other means. Bounties. Less refined, less personal, but profitable nonetheless. The work is grittier, the targets less acclaimed, but coin is coin, and survival does not afford you the luxury of idleness.
It is during one lull, while scanning the ever-changing board of wishes and hastily scribbled contracts, that your gaze lands upon a peculiar ticket. Unlike the others, it bears no name of a scorned lover or a debt-dodging merchant. Instead, it is a plea, written not by a single trembling hand, but under the weight of collective desperation. The nobles one again, faceless in their cowardice, have set their sights on something they cannot control.
The God of Sirens. A rebirth of the God of the Tides, awoken with a fire that replaced his missing heart. He reclaimed the seas and went after those who enslaved his children. A myth from long ago that reentered chamber walls after a city went to ruins for reasons unknown. Itâs said he sits in the palace idly, waiting to be challenge.
A trickster, a lingering echo of something too powerful to be dismissed yet too dangerous to be allowed to roam freely. He is the embodiment of temptation, of illusions spun so intricately they unravel the minds of those who listen.  He stands before you, neatly condensed into a single offering of wealth great enough to make even the most seasoned hunter hesitate.
"Wrong." His voice cracks through the dawn like a snapped wire. A second later, the world twists as gravity betrays you, the air slicing past your ears before instinct takes over. A pivot, a breath, and the cold marble railing catches your boots. You crouch low, steady, but his scrutinizing glare chases after you like a predator unwilling to let its prey recover.
"Try again," he calls from above, lounging in his window like a bored god surveying those below.Â
Your face contorts at his tone. You have no interest in being toyed with. Your bounty has already spotted you, thereâs no point in staying. Itâs time to retreat, to cool down. But as you turn, a flicker of fire licks your cheek, searing the skin before you can react. A slow burn spreads across your face as you cup the scorched surface, eyes snapping upward.
He leans further out of his chamber, expression unreadable.Â
âI donât usually repeat myself.â He goads. His gaze does not meet you as an adversaryâs would, not even as a nuisance. But as something far worse. A plaything. His smirk holds the mirth of a child poised over an anthill. You narrow your eyes, fingers twitching toward the blade at your belt before walking away.
When you return to the bounty board, you toss his ticket back to the merchant who had so smugly handed it to you. Laughter erupts around you, rolling in waves of mockery. You ignore it, though the sting to your reputation is undeniable.
Not every bounty can be fulfilled, and itâs better to admit that than to die for the money.
The others are too proud to concede. One by one, they pick up where you left off. None return. The dunes outside his palace swallow their remains.Â
Under the moonlight, the sand glows like a sea of silver, its ripples forming a pathway that calls to you, daring you to return. A question sat in your mind.Â
Why didnt he kill you as quickly as the others? Is this a game worth playing?
ââ   .â。𦹠. ŕŚŕŚ Ë°
Flames flicker at your feet. They curl around your boots, beckoning you to come forward. You donât immediately obey, wincing as it burns through your sleeve.
âCareful,â he murmurs, back still turned. âI donât conjure natural fire.â
You seize the moment, fingers tightening around the weapon hidden at your side. The instant you raise it, he scoffs. A snap echoes through the air. Instinctively, you drop your weapon as itâs set ablaze, ash scattering to the ground.
âSloppy.â He exhales, more disappointed than amused. âI expected better.â
He rises from his lounging position, movements unhurried.
âIâve never met a female hunter before,â he muses, eyes smiling. âHas my bounty gone down?â
âYouâve killed plenty,â you counter. âNaturally, thatâs done the opposite.â
âSo, my price has turned me into nothing more than a lottery?â
âIâm not confident. Iâm curious.â
âCurious?â His voice lilts upward, mockery woven into the syllables. âHow insulting.â
âWhy havenât you killed me?â
At this, he turns. His gaze is an ocean, dark and endless, with pink gleaming in its depths. You understand, now, why others have fallen under his influence. The thought makes your stomach twist.
Something sharp glints in your peripheryâyou duck, evading his blade and returning a weapon in one breath. He catches it between two fingers, unimpressed.
âSloppy,â you echo.
He hums, stepping forward, the room shrinking between you. âYou think I find you entertaining?â He flips the blade in his grip, offering it back to you. âTo call you that would be an understatement.â He leans in, close enough that your breaths mingle. âI find you fascinating.â
You shove a hand against his chest. He barely budges. In one swift motion, he seizes your wrists, pinning them above your head as he presses you back against the cold stone wall.
âCompared to the others, youâre far less desperate.â His nose grazes yours, lips a mere breath away. âItâs disappointing.â
You turn your head, unwilling to meet his gaze. He tuts, grasping your jaw and forcing you back to him. His grip is firm but not painful, fingers featherlight as they trace your cheek.
âYou saw my bounty,â he murmurs, voice lowering, âand had the audacity to trespass just to marvel at me.â His lips brush yours as he speaks, a phantom touch. âI find that rather offensive.â
The flames at your waist flicker higher, eating away at your clothing . The hand pinning you move to the skin uncovering at your waist. You refuse to cry out as the dull drag of his nails mark your skin. Instead, with your wrists freed, you strike.
A razor, hidden beneath your sleeve, slices across his torso. He barely reacts, expression unreadable as he watches the surrounding flesh redden, blood staining his garments. Then, with a single effortless movement, he retrieves his dagger from the wall, steel gleaming. The blade bites deep into your shoulder. You choke on a gasp, shoving him away and stumbling back, your arm quickly slick with crimson. He exhales, slow and deliberate, pressing two fingers to the shallow cut at his stomach. A smirk tugs at his lips as he watches you falter.
His blade twirls between deft fingers, feet bringing him closer until he towers above you. Your knees scrape against the tile as his fire coils around you, framing your silhouette in flickering gold. He halts an inch from your whitening knuckles, gaze alight with amusement.
He extends the dagger to you once more. âTry again.â His smile barely hides his teeth, his pupils blown wide. His very presence hums with something heady, intoxicating.
Your pulse quickens, adrenaline crackles beneath your skin. As you reach for the dagger, it flicks out of your grasp before you can claim it.Â
Pain ignites in your palm. A ball of fire unravels where the blade separates your flesh. Your scream rips through the chamber, raw and unbidden.
âYou were taking too long.â He teases through your cries, slipping the metal from your flesh. His voice is silk, his eyes gleaming. He watches, enthralled, twirling the knife in his grasp before  tossing the dagger.
You collapse against the wall as his gaze engulfs you. When losing, youâre used to looks of disgust, disdain. But him, intoxicated by his excitement, your body trembles. He kneels before you, his presence suffocating. The heat of his flames flickers dangerously close, picking at the edges of your tattered frame. Fingers tighten along your jaw, tilting your face toward the fallen dagger across the room. His lips ghost along your cheek, voice velvet, poison-laced.
"Fetch."
For a moment, you don't move. Won't move. Your pride coils in your gut, hissing, demanding you refuse him. But then his grip shiftsâ just enough to let you feel the raw strength beneath his amusement. Your voice cracks through the cold air, âDoes it always take you this long to kill?â
âKill?â His voice lowers. âAnd what fun would that be with you like this?â He leans away from your face and grabs your wrist, marveling at the blood painting your skin. He lifts your palm, still raw and bloodied, to his lips. âWhy would a fish play with their food?â He murmurs.
His thumb slides beside the opening of your wound, pressing down against the flesh. His mouth is agape as you scream, watching, as if truly entertained by your agony. His tongue slips slowly over the raw opening, setting your nerves on fire.Â
âItâll be easier to eat after breaking you down.âÂ
His mouth is dirtied by your blood. He leans in, fingers press against your pulse. His nails ghost down your throat as if debating whether to carve further.
"You're hesitating," he taunts, grip loosening just enough to let you scramble free. The moment your feet touch the ground, you bolt. But you donât run for the daggerâ you run for the window.
He watches as you leap, landing hard in the palace garden. His dagger nearly misses your ankle as you gather yourself, dashing through the lush palace yard to escape his heavy glare.
ââ   .â。𦹠. ŕŚŕŚ Ë°
The memory of his fire clings to you like the scent of something burned too deep into fabric. A single spark from a passing lantern makes your fingers twitch. The smallest ember makes your breath hitch.
The bounty board is quieter now, the crowds that usually gathered has thinned. The Sirenâs posting remains, its price climbing higher with each passing week. As he said, he became a game of chance. A death wish dressed in gold. You trace a scar along your hand, a parting gift from the last time you entertained the idea of collecting.
And yet, despite the warnings carved into your own skin, your feet still hesitate before walking away. Nobles continue to complain as they lose hunters by the day, and you canât help but be proud at how desperate the city is to have his head.Â
ââ   .â。𦹠. ŕŚŕŚ Ë°
Rafayel lazed over his furniture, the ornaments adorning his body gleam against the setting sun. Fish swimming at his fingertips ignite and scatter around the room, lighting his candles. Melted wax hangs from their silver plates, branded with a royal emblem he does not own. A hum escapes him as the breeze tickles his neck.
âA visitor?â He sings. His head tilts upward to hang from his seat, a smile already playing at the corner of his mouth. âIâve missed you, my dear.â
Your laugh is short, amused at how quickly he recognized you. Your heart quickens under his gaze. âHave you charmed me, siren?â
He smiles knowingly, âAmplifying the emotions that are already present is far more exciting. Why else would you come back to me?â
You shrug, âIâve come to congratulate you. Your life bothers the inner city so much that your head no longer has a set price.âÂ
Itâs true. After collecting from another mission, you noticed his poster. His face decorated a large canvas, emboldened by red spelling. Under his picture, the price tag reads:Â
â ANY â
His bounty is now a blank check.
âUgh, that explains why Iâve been so bored lately.â He swings his head, leaning over the lounge chair to meet your eyes.
âHow should we celebrate?â
A dullness stirred in your stomach. The orchid in his eyes bloom as a smile dances across his face. His color becoming clearer, more vibrant, more beautiful than before.
âCome closer, my love.â
Your heart pounds, you fully acknowledge that youâre under his spell but feel no need to fight the thoughts his power amplifies.
Slowly, you approach him. âCurious, what does a fish want to do with a palace anyway?â
He laughs slightly, âHumans. Curious but not cautious.â he mutters, reaching a hand out to you. Your palm slips into his grasp, body following as he guides you on the lounge chair. âInvade my kingdom, take my children as pets.. . and then question why I retaliate.â He lies in the chairâs silk as you climb in. The room shrinks at the sound of his voice, melodic and heavy.Â
âSuch filthy resolve.â
You sit atop him staring into the colors of his eyes. Your fingers brush against his lips as they move, inattentive to the scorn leaving them.
âYou, Ms. Hunter.â
An idle hand explores his chest, drawing lines in his neck down to his collarbone. His darkening gaze flickers through his lashes as your hand treads down, tracing the muscle of his torso.Â
âYouâre getting cockier with every visit.âÂ
You lean dangerously close as you study the jewelry that wreathed his hips. His nose nudges your cheek, he speaks against your lips.
âDo you enjoy how I favor you?â
âFavor?â a small laugh leaves you. âDo you scar all your toys?â
âWith my reputation, would it make sense for you to leave me unscathed?â He hums as his fingers trace your jawline. âIâm protecting you, my love.â
Inattentive to him undressing you, his hand slips past your clothing as his voice continues to charm you. He feels cool against your flushed body, dragging against the uncovering skin. You lean into him the lower he trails, accepting his touch.Â
âYouâre so cute.â He murmurs.
His hand drags down your body before slipping between your legs. Your breath hitches as he fondles your slicked folds. A moan escapes you as slender fingers slip into your slit. Shallow breaths settle in the haze between the two of you. He becomes restless, his free hand roaming your waist. His cock twitches at the sight of you grinding against his hand, almost jealous of the hand surrounded by your soft velvet. He pumps another finger inside, taking in the cries escaping you as he maintains his rhythm.
âAlmost there baby?âÂ
Your grip on him tightens as you nod against his shoulder. He watches as your hips roll into his knuckles, body twitching as you inch closer to your release. Suddenly, his ingers slip from your warmth. Irritated and empty, you whineâ body searching for something to finish you off. He kisses down your neck as he pulls away from you.
âDo something for me first.â He cups your face, planting tender kisses against your lips, âThen Iâll reward you.â
He holds you by the waist, tapping a finger to your lips with his other hand.
âOpen.â He commands, voice colder than before. You follow, parting your lips and meeting his gaze. His thumb glides against your tongue as another hand holds your face steady. His nail pierces through the surface of your tongue. You flinch as his fire carves lines down the muscle.
âShhh, almost done.â He coos, watching you wriggle in pain.
A hint of smile tugs at his lips as his thumb rubs against the scar. The softness of your tongue is disturbed by the roughness left behind. He presses against the muscle and is pleased by your obedience. He watches you shamelessly wrap the injured muscle around his finger as he retrieves his thumb.
âA brand for my favorite pet.â He murmurs. His lips rake up your jaw, settling against the tender skin under your ear. âYouâre mine now.â He says, voice rough.
His hand presses against the small of your back, pushing you close once more. âWant your reward?â His cock springs from the easy access of his garments, the heat of him rubbing against you. You grind down on him as his lips find yours, hungry and eager as he tears off whatâs left of your clothes.Â
He teases himself between your folds, rimming the tip around your throbbing entrance. You grip his shoulder, breath uneven as he lowers you down his length.
âThatâs it, take me like a good girl.â He purrs. An encouraging hand holds your waist, directing your body to move. You melt into him as you moves.Â
His breath is hot against your neck as the pace quickens. Your moans echo through the night as your hips collide. Hands finds solace on your ass, kneading the skin as you lose yourself in his ecstasy. He feels so soft, his embrace suffocating yet addictive. You cant help the noises that escape you as the knot in your stomach aches to unravel. A trail of kisses tickle up to your neck while a hand holds your waist, âThatâs it baby, leave yourself wide open to me.â
Rafayel stills himself, watching as you ride closer to release, as you unravel against him. A dull pressure breaks through your skinâ A blade penetrates your dorsi. You suddenly stiffen, body twitchy from your interrupted orgasm. Your wails rip through the haze thickening the room as he nuzzles his smile into your neck.
âYou sound so beautiful, my love.â He pulls you closer to continue his praise. His kisses do nothing to distract from the pain welling around your wound.Â
Hand prints stain your skin as he strokes your cheeks, untucking the hair past your ear. âWhy arenât you moving? Have I played too rough?â
You find the strength to fight out of his hold. You knock him in the head as you lift a leg, kicking him away and off the lounge chair. You both fall to the floor, a strained groan escaping from you as you unsheathed the blade from your flesh. A hand ghosts over your figure, desperate to keep you from escaping. The blade twirls in your palm before you turn to face the figure behind you. You pin his hand to the floor with the blade, imitating a move done to you nights before.Â
You donât meet his eye, hurrying to your feet. The siren sits there silently as your blood trails out the nearest exit. He scoffs, tossing the weapon aside. The wound barely bleeding as it closes itself. He lies on the ground, chest still heaving from the fight he started.
âAh, I wasnât finished.â He sighs.Â
The sand is still warm between your feet as you run through the desert. The cityâs light reflects off the duneâs curves, guiding you to its gates. His voice echoes through your ears, his unwavering spell following you through the darkness. You shake your head, heart thumping with adrenaline. Youâre far enough from his palace walls but it feels like he hasnât let go of you.Â
You return to the city completely tattered and injured. The people of the night quickly look over you in contempt as you drag your body through the crowded streets.Â
ââ   .â。𦹠. ŕŚŕŚ Ë°
His oceans are strongest the nights he craves you most. Nights you spend fighting against his spell, ignoring his melodies. You see him, hear him, feel him. His whispers and praise tickles your neck. The ghost of his fingertips graze your skin and prickles its surface. His voice taunts you the more you try to ignore.
âCome to me. Return to me.â
Nights have passed and your return to the city has left you restless. The scar he left on your tongue brushes against the roof of your mouth as you stroke the wound healing on your back. You so carelessly allowed him to brand you, leaving his spell to continue to haunt you.Â
rafayel x mc hurt no comfort. major character death
what if mc overwhelmed by/with guilt after finding out all the sacrifices rafayel has made for her at the cost of lemuria she uses the bond for one last comand. for rafayel to take her heart. it always belonged to him anyways.
Rafayel's cries were quiet, only his breath was heard and the rolling of pearls flowing out of the room, rolling on the shiny marble floor, stained by the most beautiful shade of crimson.Â

rafayel is pleading, crying as his body reaches for his dagger against his will, his movements too stiff, nothing like his graceful and light usual behaviour. mc just smiles warmly at him, shushing his cries and repeating again and again "its okay"

inspired by "get in the water", "ruthlessness" and "600 strike" from epic the musical. set during seething flames
"there you are."
the tides around them grows stronger, waves bigger as the boat rocks back and forth aggressively, rafayels grip on her wrist stern enough to leave a bruise.
"coward."
she struggled against the restraint, trying to move out of the way and get a clearer view of the surrounding to figure out a course of action.
"a follower? or just a lowly sacrifice?"
"rafayelâ what are youâ? it's me"
"I know who you are. but as a god, I've got a reputation, a name to uphold. now that he's gained your trust again, this is where our paths collide and I can't let you walk."
realization dawned on her. this isn't rafayel, well not the one she now knows. this god is using her lovers body as a vessel.
suddenly, the sea god releases her and quickly jumps into the angry sea, arising shortly after from the waves.
"now, get in the water" he said sternly, she looked up at him from the boat, "get in the water" almost mockingly recreating rafayels usual gentle and lighthearted tone, reminding her of when they played in the rain together.
"or I'll raise the tide so high, all of linkon will die"
wide eyed she stood up, grabbing onto the boat for support as she stumbled to the edge closest to him "please! wait!"
"I have no need for traitors. I'll make tidal waves so profound, all your friends will die, get in the water!" she kept pleading while he kept screaming the same command over and over
"aren't you tired, sea god? it's been 800 years, how long will this go? we're both suffering from loses so how about we end it here and just go home" she reached out to him as he looked down to her, a scowl on his face "maybe you could learn to forgive or move on"
"you have lived more than enough."
the sea glowed a turquoise color, the boat filled with foam as the water reached her calves.
"ruthlessness is..."
he walked closer to her, stepping on the water as if it was solid matter
"...mercy upon"
a whirpool started forming around her, the waves blocking all view of linkon.
"ourselves!"
finally, they were face to face again, she reached out to his chest
"DIE."
rafayels chest glowed red, the bond mark making it self known as she grabbed onto him with all her might, trying to remain stable as the sea fought against her.
"with the authority granted to me by the oceans convent, i command you to snap out of it, please!"
they both fell onto the boat, his hand coushioning her head as his scales faded in and out
"after everything that has happened, how will you sleep at night?" he looked up at her, head on her chest "next to my husband."
rafayels body weight slumped fully into her, the sea slowly calming down as she cradled his unconcious body, gently repositioning them to be sitting down as she reached for the paddles.
land was now close in sight, but mc decided to wait in the boat until her lover came to. playing with his hair and caressing his cheek. she felt him rustle around.
"...what have i done?" he looked at her soaked clothing, messy hair and tired eyes.
when does a ripple become a tidle wave? when does a man become a monster?
i wanted to add more things from ruthlessness like "i mean you totally couldve avoided all this had you just killed my son, but no!" -> "i mean we totally could've avoided all this had he just stole your heart, but no!". i wanted sea god to see rafayel as pitiful, pathetic and talk down about him to mc so she could be like thats my husband mf!!! stay back. and maybe some other things. i couldnt grab more from 600 strike bc mc wouldnt stab him BUT wouldnt it be cool for rafayel to confront sea god? like "how does it feel to feel pain? i watche my people die in horror, calling for their god in vain! look what you turned me into, look what we've become. "
anyway, i have a lot of thoughts and sometimes its really hard to convey them. and a lot of times im like "yeah this makes no sense" or "idk if a coma or a period goes here so lets just ignore rules", i do apologize. i hope i get better as i continue writing
