People who are good at stuff are not always good at teaching that stuff to others. Often, in fact, as someone becomes an expert at something, they have trouble viewing the first steps from the metaphorical seventh floor landing.
Try reaching a four-year-old to read “cat” or what 2+2 is and you’ll realize that things that you “just do” are actually a series of difficult steps for a beginner. In much the same way, experts “just do” play an instrument, play a sport, solve an equation, or create art.
Some of the worst teachers I ever had were geniuses, but they had trouble getting into the minds of their students, much like the xkcd comic (“silicate chemistry is second nature to us…”). Teaching is a skill; in fact, it’s a dozen skills stacked on top of each other. Thank your local educator today: the current administration continues to underfund education and the current society underappreciates teaching as a skill (and I haven’t even touched on the classroom management, lesson planning, and social skills required by most educators).

Father: his father
My dad works at Home Depot and this one customer came in trying to return a lawnmower that wouldn’t start. Another employee asked the customer if he had put any gas in it and the customer was outraged, yelling that they should have told him it needed gas (it was in the manual) and the employee told him “Well it doesn’t run on hopes and dreams, sir.” That pissed the guy off more so he called the manager all “Can you believe this guy!? He told me it doesn’t run on hopes and dreams!” and the manager just said “Well, it doesn’t.”
i can't imagine why
Every time you reblog this post another one goes. You wouldn’t, would you :(

Poor Dan, having to be invited with Doug Walker, while also dealing with the insanity of Beast Studios
Imagine you're a long-running youtube creator who used to be so successful that you essentially defined the youtube reviewer format for more than a decade until your incompetence and short-sightedness collapsed your own media empire, leaving a massive influence on how youtube reviews are done even to this very day, and one day a much more competent and clearly more intelligent youtuber makes a video carefully and patiently pointing out how much of a hack you are where he concludes that you "wants to be a filmmaker, he wants to make art, but he can't, because he's a fundamentally incurious person who isn't much interested in what other people think or feel and all his ideas boil down to 'what if Batman met Mario?'" and it's wildly popular and becomes a defining part of your legacy.
And then you end up in Mr Beast's ATV with him and neither of you knew the other one was going to be there.
And then you go home and make a vaguely positive fluff piece about the experience (because doing PR for people who fly you places and feed you is part of Your Job) and months later he makes a way better and more accurate video that reads the experience in much the same way he read you a couple of years ago.
