I’m so sad this blog of mine died a while ago ☹️ truthfully haven’t watched YouTube much since I got addicted to Unus Annus and then it DIED and then I immediately hyper fixated on marvel and that’s where I’ve been for the last year. I really miss the old sugar pine and cow chop days, those were some real weird and good times. My last post was about my tiny friend group dubbing ourselves sour maple 6. We didn’t get to meet up this year but we’re all still good! Hopefully we’re gonna get together next year!

Sad about the news of SP7, I didn’t keep completely up with all their videos(or this blog), but I definitely want to go back and rewatch it all. I highly enjoyed them because of their energy and weird level of reality. I went into the woods with some friends one weekend about two years ago, one of whom I’m still close to, the other has since left in... a fittingly sour manner. But I had good memories made that weekend, and a lot of it was because of sugar pine. Thus we were dubbed sour maple 6. And even though we don’t know what’s next for the sp7 crew, I wish them well, and in honor of them and my friends I’ve put together hopefully my best outdoorsy chicken boi and cib sp7 inspired outfit and in a few months time the one friend I’m still close with and many more good friends will venture into the woods again for a classic weekend of weird and wild times.

Verizon is leaving the engine of internet culture to sputter and die, and its communities to scramble for a new home.

A former staff engineer, who recently left Tumblr and asked to remain anonymous for professional reasons, tells Vox that the NSFW ban was “in the works for about six months as an official project,” adding that it was given additional resources and named “Project X” in September, shortly before it was announced to the rest of the company at an all-hands meeting. “[The NSFW ban] was going to happen anyway,” the former engineer told me. “Verizon pushed it out the door after the child pornography thing and made the deadline sooner,” but the real problem was always that Verizon couldn’t sell ads next to porn.

Porn on Tumblr is something Verizon needs to wipe out if it’s going to make any money off what it thinks is actually valuable about the platform — enormous fandom and social justice communities that, just before the Verizon acquisition, Khalaf was insisting the staff figure out how to better monetize.

On that note-

Two former Tumblr employees said they were alarmed when Khalaf chose Black Lives Matter as an example of a community that the company should focus on converting into Yahoo media consumers. One told The Verge, “Simon explicitly said that Black Lives Matter was an opportunity to [make] a ton of money.”
