In my own mind Solas originally meant Wisdom. It could possibly be a dual meaning word Wisdom/Pride, Wisdom denied it's purpose becomes Pride and Elvhen is a language that relies heavily on intent from the speaker so it could mean Solas depending on the context used would mean wisdom or pride.

So for me, Solas is Wisdom but also Pride depending on context used but through propaganda from the Evanuris, even years into the future all the way to modern Thedas the meaning of Wisdom attached to it was lost.

This is where I came to that conclusion, every translation has Solas as meaning Pride but as we know Solas is/was a spirit of Wisdom.

So when Lich Emmrich calls Solas 'Dread Wolf', Solas replies with 'I prefer Wisdom'" also when he tells the inquisitor "I was Solas first." He's saying 'Solas is Wisdom'.

Obviously this is just my head canon for his name. Because I always found it interesting how adamant he is that his name is Solas, and how attached to the fade he stayed throughout his long years. To be known as his spirit self even after all that time. Solas.

Cut references to DAI in the prologue

In Solas' hideoit, Rook was supposed to find statues of petrified Venatori, just as the Inquisitor found statues of petrified Qunari in Trespasser. But I don't think these Venatori were completely removed. Most likely they were moved to the scene with Neve, when we first meet her, and instead of being stone, they became frozen. Alas, this conversation isn't voiced.

Rook: What is this? Those statues look like… Neve: The Venatori who came in after Solas. He turned them to stone. Varric: Yep. He does that. Varric: He did this to half a Qunari invasion force a few years ago. If Rook is a mage Rook: I've studied magic a fair amount, but… the sheer power involved… Rook: Neve, did your training include a counter-spell for this? Neve: I'm not sure there is a counter-spell for this. Rook: I've never seen anybody petrified by magic before. Rook: Neve, how do you counter something like this? Neve: I'm not sure you can. Varric: I told you he was too powerful to just punch in the face.

There was also supposed to be a weapon rack, and Rook could borrow something from there. At that moment, Varric could remember how Solas left after the finale of DAI along with the Orlesian silk or whatever your Inquisitor gave him.
