There’s a lot of specific, characterization reasons Zaheer is a much better villain than Kuvira, but I think if I had to crystallize all of them I’d say that Kuvira and Zaheer are both, ultimately, strawmen, but Zaheer doesn’t *feel* like one. He maintains the audience’s suspension of disbelief better.

Its often talked about how the Gundam series undercuts its own antiwar message by having the main characters solve a conflict by flying in with a Gundam and shooting people, but an even funnier and less talked about way they undercut their own message is that basically every time a new UC series starts, it begins with the Federation being caught flat-footed by some new threat because they were demilitarizing after the last conflict.

The lesson there appears to be “don’t ever skimp on defense spending” but that’s certainly not what they intended.

Just in general taking into account that UC Gundam characters have otherwise baffling changes of loyalty due to Newtype psychic resonance/magnetism/domination is important, but Bandai is so bad at explaining that in new UC releases.

Reccoa’s sudden switch to the Titans basically the minute she laid eyes on Sirrocco. Quess changing loyalties every 4 scenes. It seems so stupid if you don’t know what’s going on.

It’s still pretty stupid even when you do know what’s going on but at least it’s tolerable.
