Why Adam’s death missed the mark.

Adam’s death was meant to make us feel the loss of war, but in reality, I think many of us ended up feeling a different kind of loss, one unrelated to the themes of the show. 

We lost seeing a part of ourselves on the screen, seeing a portrayal an LGBT relationship, one that isn't just mentioned in passing or used as a plot device to inflict emotional pain. 

And that’s where I think the show’s writing really fell short. It left us feeling the wrong kind of loss.

we were so robbed. we couldve had it all. adam hearing about shiro still being alive. flashbacks of their first meeting. the time they spent together as flight partners. either of them proposing to the other. a touching reunion between adam and shiro. forehead touches. desperate kisses. waking up in eachothers arms again for the first time in forever. settling down for good. getting married. genuine love between two gay men who deserved better.
