I just stumbled upon a comment about the "I am done" scene from dec 12th 2025, and it got me thinking.
To me, that scene is one of the most difficult ones to dissect. I am actually convinced the only reason it exists is because Corrie needed a hurtful enough reason for Carla to leave her engagement ring behind, but I still like to make sense of it from the characters' perspectives.
So the comment I read was basically interpreting the scene as Lisa knowing she was eventually going to give in to Becky romantically and/or sexually, and wanting to protect Carla from being cheated on. And honestly, I've never, not even for a second gotten that impression at all...
I've always read it very differently, so now I'm curious what you guys think. So if anyone is still willing to dive back into certain aspects of the Becky era, what did you make of that particular scene?
Here comes my two cents on the scene.
To me it was always crystal-clear that Lisa never wanted Becky back in a romantic way - at least not since she met Carla. I am convinced she never would've thought she'd eventually be persuaded to sleep with her at this point of the sl. Which doesn't mean that there wasn't still love there for Becky. There obviously was. It would have been completely unrealistic if there wasn't. BUT: What Lisa knew atp, was that she still wouldn't be able to send Becky packing with everything that was going on. She still wouldn't be able to reassure Carla in a way Carla needed. I felt like Lisa knew she couldn't do right by anyone at this point. If they had gotten back together here, Lisa feared she would just disappoint Carla again and they'd be having the same argument over and over again. I also think Lisa was not amused about Carla talking to Betsy about her "battle scars" - leading to the "manage me like one of your machinists" comment. I also got the impression Lisa didn't want this beautiful rl she had with Carla before turn into something that kept hurting them both and she just didn't know how to prevent that from happening anymore. Lisa literally said, "we are chasing a dream" — that, to me, says everything. I think we can all understand why Carla left Lisa (Carla was a literal saint throughout this whole mess of a sl), but Lisa was put in an impossible situation too, where she couldn't do right by anyone. And the love of her life did leave her over it wether understandable or not and basically treated her like a stranger, not willing to try and resolve anything for two weeks. And on top of that Carla kinda sunk to Becky's level (out of understandable frustration) with her playing drunk and secret recording Becky the day before. Lisa always needed a minute to get her head around things — and as soon as she did, she reached out to Carla, went to the factory, tried to phone her, wanting to stop her at the airport because the love for Carla was so much stronger than the fear of them not working out. Only to receive that message from "Carla", leaving her with the realisation that Carla was now truly done with her.
I will probably never get over the heartbreak on Carla's face after the "I am done" comment, as well as Lisas face after receiving the text, realising she was too late...
