I think one of my absolute favourite things about TAZ is that Griffin got to write a campaign in which the three free agents, the three moving parts that he relied on to make his story work, were the three people he knows best in the whole universe. People talk about Griffin’s story being ‘on rails’ but it’s not. It’s just that - unlike most DMs - Griffin can predict his family’s behaviour in advance in a way most people couldn’t hope to do. If he were playing with a different group, the story never would have turned out the way it did, but because he knows his family, he could fairly accurately predict the big decisions.
He writes a voidfish into the story, because he knows his brother is kind to animals, knows he’d never leave a sentient baby jellyfish on a planet about to get eaten, not even narratively. He’s not writing Travis into a corner, Travis would never consider doing anything else. He writes Taako a sister - a best friend, a twin, a soul mate - because he knows that Justin is a big brother to his very core, knows that his instincts will always fall in line with sibling loyalty and devotion, even when he’s playing an aloof elf who doesn’t care about anyone. He writes his dad into the trickiest position of them all - facing true horror, sitting across the table from the end of the world - and he knows that his father will respond with compromise and understanding, with love and joy and compassion, because he’s seen that grace in his father his whole life. Griffin was betting on those qualities that he already knew his family possessed, and it was the safest bet he ever made! Because they were amazing, and he always knew they would be.
I would just like to tell everyone that the girl who made this vine is now very cute and im gay ♥️

Yes it is Here’s a compilation of her vines
she’s also a lesbian
You don’t say.
For the record, she actually abandoned the movement BEFORE they all got whooping cough, but abandoned it too late. There’d been a breakout of measles in her area that caused her to reassess, and she and her doctor had already drafted and started a catch-up vaccination schedule, but her kids caught whooping cough just before it could be started. Then she wrote a blog post for The Scientific Parent explaining how she and her husband had come to wrong decisions in the first place, how they changed their mind, the consequences they suffered as a result, and asking other parents to please vaccinate their kids. And now she’s an activist for destroying the misinformation of anti-vaxxers, and reaching out to anti-vaxxers because she’s understands their fears but knows their kids deserve better.
She was trying to the best for her kids and just didn’t know how to interpret the validity of information or its sources, an actual skill that can be actually difficult and that is under-taught and a necessary first step to being able to trust vaccination research, so chose no action over taking an action she wasn’t sure of. She kept looking into it with family and friends and even eventually came to the right conclusion before her kids became sick, but it was still too late.
Honestly it was pretty brave of her to publicly admit she was wrong. She could have just quietly vaccinated her kids and not become a national news story, but instead she spoke out, even saying “I’m writing this from quarantine, the irony of which isn’t lost on me.” and also “I am not looking forward to any gloating or shame as this ‘defection’ from the antivaxx camp goes public, but, this isn’t a popularity contest. Right now my family is living the consequences of misinformation and fear. I understand that families in our community may be mad at us for putting their kids at risk.”
She understood the consequences and still put herself and her story out there.
You know what, it does take a big person to admit they were wrong so publicly and work to undo the harm. I believe I made fun of her in the past, but timemachineyeah changed my mind.

been thinking a lot about how the adventure zone handles representation and why it’s so satisfying and well done… i think a lot of it is because the mcelboys understand that diversity is realistic, natural, and frankly just more interesting.
that’s why it usually doesn’t feel forced or tokenistic. there’s an understanding that as the real world is diverse, so should fantasy be. they’ve also taken the time to listen to criticism levelled at them; justin’s hesitance over making taako’s sexuality explicit once griffin pointed out the possible negative connotations of his character voice, their decision to rework the designs of the characters in the official graphic novel once people complained about the whole main cast being white. it’s not pandering, it’s a genuine commitment to creating an interesting and believeable world that their diverse listenership can relate to.
it’s natural and non-sensationalised - queer characters in particular don’t have a big shock reveal, it’s just a part of who they are. take roswell as an example - they’re agender/nb because of course they are. if you think about it for more than four seconds it’s pretty obvious that arbitrarily assigning a gender to a powerful earth construct would be a much weirder decision.
taking away that automatic assumption that all characters should be cisgender & heterosexual as their default setting makes inclusivity easy - when griffin asks clint about merle’s marriage, he doesn’t automatically ask about his wife, he says ‘husband or wife’. little things like that make so much difference.
i’m not saying it’s always perfect, but jesus, they’re really trying. and usually succeeding. as white (i’m assuming) cishet guys they would not have been dragged for neglecting diversity, but they did it anyway. we need more content creators like them, who treat representation as something natural and normal and interesting rather than an annoying obligation.
tl;dr i love taz & the mcelboys a lot and i think about it all the time
I was walking in the forest during winter, and saw a wendigo sitting under a tree. I asked it if it was going to kill me. It said, “No, this is just a dream.” So I sat next to it in the snow for a bit and then he said, “The anger in your heart warms you now, but will leave you cold in your grave.” And then I woke up.
it’s been 3 days and i can’t stop thinking abt these
You missed the best part, my friend. These are just two photos from a whole book.
Please, enjoy this smattering of beauty and wonder.
These make me so happy
I love all of these, but I am SCREAMING over the last one.
Those boys are perfect.
if i might add:
This entire book looks like someone’s fever dream brought to life through some dark pact with an eldritch being… and I love it.

I know what I want for my birthday…
the Drake and Millie situation? why is this being allowed to happen. I know it happens all over the world but here - right in the public eye it’s happening and nobody is thinking anything of it??? Or are turning a blind fucking eye??

Implied correlation vs reality
A girl I liked convinced me to stab a man, so I did. Felt guilty for a bit, then promptly forgot about it and walked around with the murder weapon for a couple of hours, going about my business, walking my dog. Eventually I was cornered by a plainclothes police officer who asked me why I had a bloody knife; I told him I was looking after it for my bogan cousin. He said, “You’re under arrest,” and I was like,, “No, I’m not, watch this,” and then I woke up.
that’s a goddamned power move
