Stuffins is the First Recon's very own medic. Shortly after the first battle of Hoover Dam, higher ups had realized their "finest" needed a travelling medic, considering how knee-deep they were in shit constantly, getting back to a camp medic would prove difficult. That's where Doctor Jean Hearts came in.
They'd originally joined the NCRA as a field medic when they'd first turned 18, quickly picking up on just how tough things were in actual combat, something the camps and simulated conflicts never covered. As the NCR pushed out East towards the Mojave, they moved with the troops, eventually being scouted out in the range and offered a position as a sniper in the First Recon for their pinpoint accuracy (thanks to extensive studying on human anatomy during their time as a medic).
After the first battle of Hoover Dam, the need for the doctor turned from being a sniper first to being a medic first, and Stuffins' role within their team changed.
In the time after the battle, but before the massacre of Bitter Springs, Stuffins had gone to the old Mormon fort in Freeside, being taught by the absolute saints in the Followers ranks on more medical knowledge, things that most other NCRA medics didn't know.
While their training was supposed to last longer than a year, when a news runner from the NCRA had came to the fort with an urgent message, an immediate order to return to the First Recon in Bitter Springs, Stuffins quickly ran across the Mojave to the after-math of the slaughter that had taken place.
Due to the extensive amount of injured and fatally wounded, Stuffins was allowed 12 minutes for each patient before needing to pass them off to a different medic... or sign their death certificate and keep moving. War stopped for no-one, after all.
The scene laid at their feet left a lasting impact. While Stuffins seemed unchanged on a surface level, the heart-on-their-sleeve surgeon began to punish themselves in a hidden manner. A pocket watch with a notch in the metal for each life they failed to save... with a specifically set timer to go off every 12 minutes.
Sleep slipped from Stuffins, and still does. The first to rise, the last for lights out, and a power-nap master, Stuffins hides the guilt and self-hatred beneath thick layers of pink bandages, the occasional dark joke, and medicated lollipops.
Despite Boone and Vargas leaving the ranks shortly after, Stuffins remained with the rest of the Battalion, only cutting complete contact with the two-ex recons after Manny (who, unbeknownst to others, had been in a relationship with the doctor for some time) celebrated "Carla leaving", disgusted that he'd celebrate a broken marriage (and officially broke up with him during that exact call).
Stuffins is still unaware of Carla's true fate, not having spoken to Boone since he first left, meaning the doctor still searches for Carla for answers on what could have possibly made her leave her husband while they continue to serve in the NCRA.
