Chimera: Does the government agency that I felt was necessary count as an invention? The Federal Bureau of Magical Crime Investigation is something I came up as the government regulated version of the third party magical agencies that the main cast works for. Basically the point of the FBMCI is to investigate and stop magical crime- a magical crime taskforce if you will. But they're lowkey corrupt and government systems don't lend themselves to quick solutions, so third party, unregulated magical agencies began to pop up, and that's what our lovely cast does for work!

Fairy: Oh this is hard. Side characters can have so many uses, and can add so much to a story. I think people who come into conflict with the main character bring a lot of intrigue- and right now Damien does that the most and to me he's the side character I currently favor the most. But everyone adds something to the story and has a moment so like it's so hard to know what type I truly favor!

okay, the weapons sound cool -- are they a very commonplace thing? related question dwarf, then the lost language and unicorn if you want (no pressure!)

Thank you! It has partial inspiration from the anime Fairy Tail (as a lot of this does- it's one of my favorite animes and I love a lot of the worldbuilding). They're not super common place, a person would only ever really need them if they were involved in some way in the magical world or the underworld (like literally just crimes and things) or combat (as the military definitely uses magic to their advantage too...). So not only is it expensive, it's really exclusive to a sector of the population.

As for the follow-up dwarf prompt, staffs, bows + arrows and guns are definitely the most common. But any type of weapon can be manufactured to have magic in it, but it's a time intensive and resource heavy process.

Lost Language: @tommybowefuneralattendee has been riffing with me some, and there have been a couple of ideas there I have had to reject. I think the biggest one I can think of is this interesting interaction that happens between Arasha, Jackie and Angela. Jackie and Angela have destructive types of magic (electricity based and fire based, respectively) and Arasha's magic is the ability to write runes, which basically do... a lot of different things. One of those being that she can "seal" magic aka making sure someone doesn't use too much of their magical power in one go, something inherently useful to those two because their magics can get out of hand and hurt them- not to the extent of Spencer's, but with similar side effects. The original idea Mer suggested was to have Arasha seal both Jackie and Angela's magic, but I believe I decided only to have Angela go through with this due to a very specific Tommien conflict (and yes, Jackmien is one of the minor ships!) that helps advance the story and makes Damien's level of involvement in Tommy's savior process make sense (or lack thereof...). Unicorn: Amanda and Tommy's relationship for sure. In my head it is a very close one in this fic, but other than a few little moments, I don't currently have anything planned to showcase just how much Amanda cares for Tommy (and Spencer too). She's such a reason why Tommy is able to do what he does, and I def should see if I can give her some more moments!

Hi anon! That is totally okay- a lot of people probably don't know bc I'm bad at talking about stuff sometimes. I'll give you a lil bit of like... a summary? To the best of my ability, seeing as I haven't formalized a summary yet.

Another Life is my modern magic AU I have been working on for awhile and the first installment of a series entitled The Extant Nature of Sacrifice. It's primarily a spommy fic with a lot of minor background pairings as well. Basically the premise is this: Spencer is a necromancer and Tommy is a Druid (who possess life magic, primarily centered around nature). The thing is? Utilizing necromancy drains a persons life force, so every time Spencer uses his magic, he is slowly killing himself. It has always been this way, but Tommy, who ends up falling in love with Spencer over the years, is dedicated in his refusal to let Spencer die, even if Spencer himself claims that is the fate he wants. So the story follows their journey, and Tommy's attempt at finding a cure. There's a lot more nuance and worldbuilding, but to try not to spoil too too much, I think that summary suffices.

As for the answer to the two prompts, let me get to those as well.

Amulet: There are a couple of answers to this, but I'll answer with one just in case someone asks for this again. The most prominent magical objects are magical weapons, because not everyone possesses magical powers (it's mostly passed down through bloodlines and other extenuating circumstances), so non-magical people can purchase magical weapons that contain a certain amount of magic for them to use. Spencer actually uses a magical weapon throughout the story, to hide his necromancy as it is a dangerous thing to reveal.... though his weapon is a bit different from the mass manufactured ones ;)

Dragon: I love this question because I actually never considered it! Since it is a modern magic au i never like looked towards dragons or anything like that. But honestly... I may think about this and the first person that comes to mind to have a magical creature of some kind is our resident healer/shaman, Damien... I may have a more fleshed out answer for you later!
