Summer Dark Academia
already wishing for fall again, but thankful for the break from school
linen blouses and vintage shorts because layers simply are not working with the heat
studying everything you got too busy to look into during the school year, falling down rabbit holes on the subjects that piqued your interest
rereading all of your favorite books, completely ignoring your ever growing tbr list
long nights stargazing recalling their myths in your head
having a mini book club with your friends, all talking about how you perceive certain characters and meanings
texting cryptic messages in broken latin to your friends and 3am
steeping teas to enjoy the next day
drinking coffee late at night, it doesn’t taste the best, but at least it’s keeping you awake
losing track of the time as days mix together. wednesday? nonono i could’ve sworn it was tuesday…
classical during the day, rock at night
library visits almost daily, the workers knowing you by name at this point
writing little stories on slips of paper, hiding them for others to find
romanticizing the next school year, setting goals for it that you’ll probably forget about
ink stains on your hand
the smell of summer flowers clinging to you
cracking your window to better hear the night rains, candles illuminating your room, slowly putting you to rest
messy reminders hurriedly scribbled on your arms, a couple smeared no longe legible, yet you know what it says
card games and horror movies late at night
swimming in lakes so dark the night sky is envious
you’re tbr list is just getting longer and longer, yet you have no idea when you added them
eye bags that refuse to go away, no matter how little or how much sleep you get they’re still there
quoting inside jokes on late night phone calls
pirating books and sharing them with your friends because you are absolutely broke
binge watching dark academia shows over games of chess, some games played entirely with yourself
rewatching harry potter, cursing the author in your head
messy hair and dreamy eyes, your mind drifting far away into another dream
drinking everything from chipped teacups you thrifted

My dark academia christmas aesthetic
in my town there was a first snow this season, so of course I instantly started to feeling christmas vibes and I decided to do a list of my dark academia christmas aesthetic. propably i will add a part 2 in few days
-listening piano version of every christmas song that exist while stuying or doing anything
-mastering making a thick hot chocolate with marshmallows or with whipped cream
-mastering making a christmas tea with ginger, lemon juice and cloves, drinking the unhealthy amount of it
-buying christmas candles and lighting them non-stop, so your room will smell like a gingerbread latte
-wearing red and dark green mixed with black
-tying your hair with christmas ribbon
-using your favourite christmas bookmark
-studying on your black leather armchair wrapped up in your red christmas blanket with white snowflakes
-wearing you favourite christmas jewellery
-taking notes not only with black, but also with red and dark green and doodling christmas drawing around the notes, it will be a memory of this christmas in the future
-baking gingerbread and gingerbreads
-your sketchbook is full of christmas drawings
-lighting christmas lamps all over your house
-trying to figure out what you should get for your love ones and what to write in the letters to them, writing them with your favourite fountain pen
-using only christmas cups
-taking photos with your christmas decoration for your dark academia instagram
-going to your local christmas market, your cheeks stings from cold
-seeing a snow through yor window, even if it’s just a little bit
-wanting to stop time so this season won’t end
❄️Cold Weather Skin Care Tips❄️
❄️Exfoliate twice a week instead of once to remove the buildup of dry and dead skin cells
❄️Use moisturizing sheet masks or overnight masks to lock in moisture
❄️Try using a body oil instead of lotion right after you shower - you don’t get dry as quickly and your skin has a nice healthy glow
❄️Lotion your hands and feet and put on thick gloves and socks overnight - your skin will be the smoothest it’s ever been
how to build a da capsule wardrobe
in general:
-focus on collecting pieces that are neutral coloured and/or black
-the majority of the pieces should be plain and solid
-capsule wardrobes can be made up of 15-30 pieces of clothes/accessories
-collect classic/timeless pieces
-minimal but effective and impactful accessories are best
-shop at thrift stores for sustainability and great price!
-collect long-term, good quality clothes/accessories (sometimes means more $ but worth it in the long run!)
-goal is to create a wardrobe that is efficient and to make creating outfits easier
-can be easier to create 1 fall/winter capsule wardrobe and 1 spring/summer wardrobe
-every clothing piece should be able to pair with at least 3 other pieces in the collection
examples of key pieces for da:
-knit sweaters
-turtlenecks
-trousers
-button downs
-blazers
-formal shorts
example of a winter/fall da capsule wardrobe of 21 pieces and 7 accessories:
-2 turtlenecks (1 black, 1 grey)
-2 blazers (1 black, 1 plaid)
-4 trousers (1 black, 1 plaid, 2 neutral-toned)
-2 jeans (1 black, 1 blue)
-2 sweaters (neutrals)
-1 trench coat (black)
-6 button-downs/blouses (3 short sleeve, 2 white, 2 black, 2 neutral)
-2 plain t-shirts (1 black, 1 neutral)
-2 simple necklaces
-3 rings
-1 leather backpack
-1 black purse
disclaimer!: being a part of the dark academia community does not mean you have to look or dress a certain way or spend money buying clothes to fit the aesthetic. da is a more a mindset but for those who enjoy the fashion aspect I hope this helps!

Cultural Dark Academia
After my last post about the lack of representation in academia, I felt it neccessary to provide some examples of what I’m talking about. Obviously there are more countries in the world than I can list and provide books for, so for a quick list this is what I got. !! Keep researching !! If you have any more books by POC please reply them !! If a country isn’t listed, that doesn’t mean it’s not important, this is just what I could get together real quick. If I made any mistakes, please let me know, we’re all learning. We need to help each other end eurocentrism in academia, so value representation and educate yourselves 💓💓💓
