Okay folks this is one part theory, three parts headcannon, and all parts kinda out there so buckle up. It starts with the idea that illusions of oneself are very much like clones from Naruto and poof away with any physical attack against them. My brain decided to say “Hey what if you could make a semi-permeant illusion that didn’t poof away with one hit?” and it’s been a chaotic spiral from there.
Here we go with info dump folks! And if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask! If you want to see actual art check out @ba-burrito-art who made the prompt list I’ve been trying to follow
So what I came up with is what I’ve taken to calling War Illusions (WI) in part because I also thought of a game called War Games to go with it. Anyway, the WI is a semi-permeant illusion that requires knowledge in illusion (for the image and knowledge of the caster), abomination (for the physical aspects of the illusion like weight and strength), and healing (the more knowledge in this field the better the caster can determine what kind of hits do what to the body (does getting punched in the face break your nose or just piss you off?) ). The WI can only take as much physical damage as the caster can and can only perform the same physical skills as the caster. So no magic which is one of the key ways to tell about a WI from its caster.
Now, because of the fact it needs three magic types to cast obviously the only ones able to do so are the Emperor’s Coven and coven-less witches. That’s where the War Games comes in, at least during the Belos-era of magic. In designated arenas it is possible to cast the WI due to various enchantments provided by, you guessed it, the Emperor’s Coven. Anyone can do it though it does take a lot of practice to get the illusion right. For that reason you’ll usually see a majority of Illusion Coven playing these games.
The game itself is basically a big battlefield between two armies. More enchantments provide the troops as sort of generic WI. Players can either chose from pre-made troops or take the time to design and train troop WIs themselves. The self-trained ones are then “loaded” onto onto a magical disc, sort of like a flash drive, and whoever has the disc has that troop type. Many players start with the pre-made troops and if they keep playing will make their own troops. The only limit to how many troop types a player has is how much are they willing to research and learn. I’m liking the War Games to how we view chess in my head. Interesting to watch because of the tactical skills and how one player might outmaneuver their opponent. But its not the seat of your pants, every moment is action packed, like grudgby or football.
The “generals” in the game are the caster’s WI. Since the games go to death or surrender of the opposing general its only WIs on the battlefield. If you want a medic out there you’ll need to train one up yourself as there isn’t a pre-made medic. After an incident where one player tried to cheat the system by having their WI sit on the sidelines while the caster took to the field so they could use magic while playing a rule was put in place that “generals” must look different from the caster. It didn’t have to be overly different, just enough to tell one from the other. Many players use whatever injuries the WI sustained to help this along. Broken nose that could be fixed by magic? Crooked. Lost an arm but not the fight? Now the WI only has one arm. Other differences are eye color, hair style, and skin color.
Another enchantment puts the caster basically puts them in their War Illusion’s shoes. Anything the WI sees and hears so does the caster. Feeling is not factored in after many complaints about that. This is so the caster can only see the battlefield from active point and not from a spectator point of view.
Now, as I mentioned before War Illusions take three types of magic to cast. Because of this they also take up a lot of magic to cast. It’s entirely possible to cast the WI and become magically exhausted. Enchantments in the arena help reduce the load but outside of the arena the caster has to be extremely powerful. Power glyphs are also a way to combat this though it’s considered cheating by the few who can cast a WI without passing out. These outside the arena WI can have the exact same appearance as the caster but most change it up anyway.
As said before WI can’t cast magic and because of the powerload generally the caster won’t cast many spells while the WI is active. The lack of magic is one way to tell an WI out. The other way is that WI can’t speak for reasons unknown. A good number of people have learned all they could about the vocals and how that works but to no avail. War Illusions can’t speak. Though if the caster knows sign language, or the Boiling Isles equivalent, then that can be used to communicate.
....I think that about covers it! Like I said if you have any questions please feel free to ask!
Whelp you know what this is? Another text dump. Mostly because I’ve been busy and Jazz Bump took away all my damn drawing thoughts. I’ve got plenty of regular thoughts though! And the covens are hard because we haven’t really seen any in action besides the Emperor’s Coven. So! Text dump of the days (into the future wooo). Illusions and the Emperor’s Coven isn’t included because I have ideas for the those (illusions is going to be another text dump while Emperor I’m going to try to draw out).
If you want to see actual art check out @ba-burrito-art who also created this prompt!
14: Beast Keeping: Do the griffins eat the spiders from their spider breath? Also the bird portion looks like a pigeon.
15: Construction: If you put enough power glyphs on it would be like “UNLIMITED POWER!!!!!” (When it comes to the final battle that will no doubt happen I wanna see Tiny Nose in the background with like, five power glyphs on and just absolutely wrecking shit)
16: Healing: Could they replace limbs? We’ve seen Eda get her head chopped off and be completely fine. Soooo could like, the Healing Coven regrow limbs? Because that would be pretty cool. Also seen a lot of concept/head cannon of cursed Lillith being a sort of raven. Which is cool and all but it is the owl curse. I doubt the curse will change bird type just for aesthetics.
18: Oracle: “It’s freeeeee (real estate)” -finger guns away into the shadows- (Do people in the demon realm call that finger gun? Because they have magic, they don’t need guns.)
19: Plant: I fully expect Willow to become a plant magic teacher. And maybe Luz introduces her to the concept that humans sing to plants to make them grow. So she also multi-tracks into bard because why the hell not.
20: Potions: Sooo Eda wanted to study all tracks and got put into Potions. So did Luz. Was that like, Bump’s default track for kids who can’t make up their minds? What special magic is taught in potions that other tracks don’t have? Because I imagine the Healing Coven would for sure have some kind of potions. Maybe the Construction Coven too for like, stamina or something. I don’t know the Potions Coven just seems....out of place as a main nine.
Some of my favourite frames from my new completed animatic! i won’t say I’m in love! Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbxOaSs71F8&feature=youtu.be
Hey this is awesome! And the frames you chose really tell the story. I hadn’t even read the description yet before my brain said “this looks like a Lumity rendition of i won’t say i’m in love”. Lone behold guess what XD Very nice job OP!
So I was looking on the wiki page for who was in bard track besides Skara and it said Bump was. My brain immediately produced this image with Careless Whisper (or as many know it Never Going to Dance Again) playing in the background. After that there was no question what I was going to do.
We’ll just say Bump is now retired and there’s like, a permeant portal between the realms. Or this is his night job, whichever works.
I did digital art! Which is only partly why this took so long to post. Mostly I played Careless Whisper on repeat while trying to draw and kept busting out laughing whenever the sax part came on. Because of this image (and at one point I did imagine Deadpool coming in and bothering Bump) (then the sheer chaos that would be Eda and Deadpool).
The weekend came and I had to do adult things (don’t drive into curbs kids you’ll pop a tire!) and now I’m far behind on this sooo
Text dump! Because words are easier than art sometimes! (Side note trying my hand at digital art cuz I’ve got CorelDraw Graphics Suite for work and it came with CorelPainter sooooo) (digital art is hard)
Day 9! Favorite Friendship
King and Eda! Eda and King! These two remind me so much of the kind of friendship I have with my three best friends. We fight, we bicker, we pick on each other a lot (one of ‘em and I look so much alike we’ve been mistaken as twins before). But at the end of the day we’re family and we love each and will 100% throw down for each other. And if we weren’t clear across the country from each other we’d get into more shenagins (I miss the shenagins).
Day 10! Favorite Ship
These kids are like 14, 15 at most I don’t want to ship them :( Okay call me a little old school but the main cast is like, just entering high school. And Gus got moved up some grades! He’s so little and young! We don’t need to ship them! Not yet! (Though at this point Lumity is probs going to be cannon) Maybe it’s just in part due to when I was just entering high school I barely knew who I was myself and thus have a hard time seeing anyone not going through that same struggle. Either way, at the end of the day I feel like these kids need to figure themselves out before they get into letting another person in like that.
Day 11! Best Siblings
On one hand we have the Clawthorne girls. On the other we’ve got the Blights. Not a lot of options to chose from but by default Lillith is not it because there are lines you don’t cross and cursing your sister? Yah that’s one of ‘em (this coming from an older sister) That being the twins also crossed a line with the diary and their plan because like Luz said. Those are private thoughts. Especially for just “telling on us when we skip class” (there’s probably more reasons but that’s the only one Ed or Em brought up before the diary was found). So plot twist! My favorite sibling is young Eda (and sorta current Eda) because she’s incredibly powerful but doesn’t appear to flaunt it. Instead she decided to help Lillith in training and seemed genuinely hurt when Lillith turned away from her offered hand. Now, we do only have these small moments to go off of but still. They speak a lot.
Day 12! Abominations
So just some random theory for this one. When we, viewers in general of any magical show, see some kind of globy creature we default into think it has simple intelligence. And by default when we see a perfect illusion it’s universally accepted that the illusion can stand in for the caster in all but the most complex of situations. Now, we’ve really only seen Amity cast abominations on the regular, which that’s her track so no surprise. During the witch’s duel the abomination throws its head with some accuracy. More so than I think, a glob with basic intelligence could do. So it would stand to reason that maybe, just maybe, the abominations have a skill level based on the caster. It wouldn’t be much, focused very much on physical skill and nothing magical, but think about it. Amity played grudgy. She was team captain. It stands to reason she knows how to throw things with speed and accuracy. Sooo her abominations would reflect that. And if she figures that out? Whooo boy I don’t think anyone could escape the thrown abomination head then.
That’s it for the text dump! Hopefully next weekend will not be so chaotic and I can actually post the correct days :/ And as always @ba-burrito-art for creating the prompt list! (which I think is mostly supposed to be for drawing but uh...don’t hit curbs)
Tiny Nose! Who’s name I didn’t know for the longest time and referred to as Bill Cypher’s depressed cousin! She’s one of the very few fleshed out background characters and even appears in the intro! I would love to see a scene between her and Hooty just for the sheer terrorizing shenagins that would happen.
Honorable mention goes to that kid who cheers for Willow during the training session of Wing it Like Witches. I don’t know his name but I’ve dubbed him Hades in my head because of the comic I mentioned yesterday. He’s got the flower while Willow wrecks shit.
Okay so like, hear me out on this one. Belos talks about a “Day of Unity” which could easily be the day he put the coven system into place and its now a holiday. But he needs the portal to the human realm for some reason! (Which he kinda sorta has now???) And what better reason than to get back to his own realm?
So like this backstory I came up with was that he was like Luz as a child. Believed in magic and wonder and fantasy. But putting it into age and the timing he would have grown up in a drastically different kind of world. One that wasn’t nearly as accepting as things are now (granted it’s still not great now but Belos would probably get the shit beat out of him on the daily is what I’m thinking). One day he stumbles through a portal and ends up on the Boiling Isles.
And look! Magic! He was right all along! But the portal closes and he can’t get back. So Belos has to figure something out and he does. He puts on a mask, claims to be a listener and speaker for the Titan (heh Dark Brotherhood reference), creates the covens, and is now trying to open a portal to the human realm seemingly. He wants to have all wild witches gone before opening that portal, probably as a way to show humans that he has all the power now and controls all. And no one can hurt him again.
We see Belos cast magic. Sort of. All with his left hand or his staff (that doesn’t have a palisman). Never a spell circle. Which literally everyone else uses. And recall that when Gus and Willow use the relics there aren’t spell circles either. So it’s entirely plausible that Belos is casting magic with an enchanted gauntlet and staff (or yah he is all powerful and doesn’t need to use circles but that debunks my theory). From the history book he’s always worn a mask and hood so no one knows what he looks like underneath that.
Calling Luz human could simply be his way of assuring his followers he too is a witch. Or maybe he’s become so detached from the fact he is a human, what with the mask and magic and whatever the fuck he did pouring green blood into his eye. Either way Belos thinks himself above humanity now most likely. He created the coven system and bent powerful witches to his will. Now he wants to do the same in the human realm.
One little side note. That massive heart we see in the throne room doesn’t have a bile sac that we see. I feel like that’s going to be important somehow.
Willow! I realize I just drew her face but hey! I love her whole design! And it goes beyond her look. It’s her personality too! She’s always got a smile for her friends and never really talks bad about anyone even if they’re mean to her. Willow’s also crazy powerful, with planets at least, but she doesn’t flaunt it. She can and will throw down when the time comes.
(there’s a comic somewhere of Hades and Persephone (Greek mythology) where someone says shit off screen and Persephone is like “Oh we fighting?” -hands Hades the flower from her hair- “Hold my flower!” and Hade’s is like “Kick their ass I got your flower.” which I 100% see Willow doing that at some point. Just “Hold my flower!” -proceeds to summon vines and wrecks shop-)
@ba-burrito-art remembered when I actually posted whoop! (please let me know if I’m doing this right and if it gets annoying at all)
You. You miss possible vampire lady. You understand. I love Hooty and he has my heart with his entire existence but this. I get this on a deeper level than I can even put into words. Thank you Dana for giving us this line. You didn’t need to but you did.
Owltober Day 6! Woohoo on the 6th!
Aaaaanddd yet another edit because I’m a dumb and forgot to tag @ba-burrito-art for coming up with the prompt list! But at least I remembered today and will remember for the future!
Owltober Day 5! (on today’s edition of I seemingly can’t post on odd days!)
Favorite trio!
Which okay I don’t really have an all out favorite one. I strongly...dislike the Evil Trio of Lillith, Belos, and Kikimora but all the other trios we’ve seen? I love them all. They each bring something to the show that is good and relatable and somehow seems to work. Like you know how shows sometimes feel...extreme? Or that they’re so outlandish about certain things that you just KNOW doesn’t happen? (looking at you shows in which siblings constantly call each other bro or sis and nothing else) (if I call my sister anything close to that it is a completely monotone “Hello sister unit”) So yah, I love just about all the trios. Evil Trio can get eaten by the slitherbeast for all I care.

Hooty’s fight with the Emperor’s Coven and Gay Mess Amity
I will always love Hooty. I don’t care what y’all say this chaotic bird tube is my fave. And wobbly people? I trip over nothing so I feel that.
Gay mess Amity? Ooooo do I relate. And it’s not even like, I’m a gay mess myself, I rarely go out. But my friends are and I love to tease them about it. I am most certainly that jerk. If the twins every find out about Amity’s crush they’ll be damn sure to tease her (they probs already know we just haven’t seen it).
Honorable mention goes to that fight between Lilith and Eda at the castle because that. That fight was serious. And showed just how powerful witches can be.
Edit because I forgot to tag the creator of the prompt list and had to look up how whoops. @ba-burrito-art Go check ‘em out because I think they’re pretty cool and creative and really I want to thank them for this list
Listen call me simple but I look snowy places. There’s just an inherent peacefulness about them. For me there’s nothing better than being in a snow covered woods and listening to nothing. It’s a blank slate before the new year starts and I love it. So of course I’m drawn to snowy places in shows. Amity’s library hideout is a very close second for favorite place though.

Tibbles. This little ass is just....ugh. Just everything about him is a no. And his stand getting wrecked was an accident! Then he tries to get the Luz and Co eaten?! I think not.
I did consider The Blight Parents for this one but aside from one little bit we haven’t seen ‘em in the show. So while we know they’re bad (someone please get Amity some therapy) we don’t know just how bad yet. Boscha was a close second as well.

Listen I just love this chaotic house demon. Like just every scene with Hooty is a goddamn riot and never fails to make me cackle. “Look at me I’m a person now! Wobbly wobbly!” Fucking great
