The art in this issue seems... off.
I have now read every Amazing Spider-Man comic from the 1960's. :D
In Issue 72 of ASM, how on Earth did the Shocker even know Cap Stacey had the tablet??? Spidey handed it to him secretly at the end of Issue 71.
People are finding mad examples of Jar Jar doing the Jedi Mind Trick and I’m so mad
i cant believe of all the theories in the world this was the one that was fucking canon
“As someone mentioned on reddit already, Jar Jar is a CG-rendered character, so every single motion he makes is deliberate. The animators intentionally directed his every gesture, his ever turn of head, his movement of lips. This is very different from an actor who just happens to look at an odd direction or make a strange posture - those can be accidents. This is intentional.“
The Jar-Jar theory is so ridiculous I can’t even start
Gods, if this were true it means Lucas rather than ruining the prequels was simply TOO successful at concealing his Big Bad, and it makes perfect sense considering how over-the-top evil Darth Maul looked (so much so that I remember my friend’s parents protesting the film because he “looked like the devil”). This would almost have been some inception level stuff. We all think we know Palpatine is behind everything because of the original movies, but had Jar-Jar been the real power behind everything it would have been on another level.
So, tldr: Lucas was so successful in making concealing his Big Bad in the guise of bumbling fool that everyone HATED the bumbling fool too much to allow his presence to persist in the movies.
I never thought I’d say this, but I almost feel cheated.
If you want to add to this
The clone wars show (which is still canon) Flat out states jar jar over plays the “bumbling fool” act And shows he can control any animal on any planet and at one episode the baddies assumed he had to be a jedi master because of how he messed up their plans
And his last apperceive he’s dating a queen of a planet and defeated the Night Mother a dark force user that made Darth Mual and his brother and rivaled the Sith Lords in power
shit this is cool
While I love crazy theories like this, the Clone Wars has some evidence against him at least being Palpatine’s partner. The episode askgametia just mentioned, “Bombad Jedi.”
Palpatine takes over the planet Rodia in the beginning of the episode. Despite this, he still allows Senator Amidala to arrive on the planet, trapping her. Jar-Jar manages to rescue her through his antics, allowing the Republic to capture Nute Gunray.
Now this would be fine and dandy, since Palpatine plays the strings for both parties. However, the following episode, “Cloak of Darkness,” shows that Palpatine needs Gunray alive as he has him broken out of the prison.
If Palpatine truly wanted Jar-Jar to capture Nute Gunray, why would he have sent assassins to free him? Palpatine’s plotline becomes far more complicated if Jar-Jar were aligned with him, as Jar-Jar constantly foils Separatist plots, which is something Palpatine constantly is seen wishing to have succeed.
Unlikely for him to be Palpatine’s Master either, since that would break the Rule of Two. If we follow solely the films, George Lucas never strayed from this rule. Darth Plagueis is confirmed to be Palpatine’s Master as well.
Jar-Jar could be a Force-wielder, however. In the episode “The Disappeared, Part II,” he comments how he doesn’t have the Force within him. He is responded with the fact that all living beings have the Force within them.
And Episode I reveals that the Jedi miss some Force-wielders, as revealed by the Council’s lack of knowledge of Anakin’s existence before Qui-Gon discovers him.
Besides, Jar-Jar would be at least 70 years old or something if he was in Episode VII. Either way, it’s a fun theory.
Also, towards the video itself, Han Solo would be considered a “mind dominator” as well. Han is seen doing the exact same thing to Leia in Episode V. In truth, it’s merely Harrison Ford mouthing Carrie Fisher’s lines.
Jar-Jar likely did this as an homage to that, or to the idea of characters doing things in the background. After all, George Lucas really wanted Jar-Jar to be a living breathing being and doing the mundane with it was something he really wanted.
Case and point, Jango Fett can be seen hitting his head upon entering the Slave I during Episode II. This is a CGI Jango, meaning they did it on purpose. (It was an homage to the storm trooper hitting his head blooper kept in Episode IV)
