ok so i screenshotted this moment because i thought it was pretty cool

the first time we get to see all four elements working together for a common enemy, blah blah blah, but i started laughing because

sokka’s fucking boomerang. sokka threw a fucking boomerang at princess azula, renowned lightning bender and heir-apparent to the throne of the fire nation.

I said it once and i say it again.

Azula considered Sokka to be the biggest threat in this group and countered him first. What this picture miss is Sokka sanding nearby. All members of this group unleash their attack at same time, but Azula reacts to boomerang first. If you watch this part in slow motion, you could see that Sokka’s boomerang was the first thing that would hit Azula and may even incapacitate her making her unable to continue to fight. So she had to counter in first. She deflected it with well placed shoot.

Then and only then, when there is no immediate threat, she starts to create her blue fire wall to counter other elements.

Lets think about this. How hard should you have to throw something to make it move faster that any elemental attack? Either all elemental attacks are slow or you are pretty strong. That said nonbenders with good aim and strong hands could easily overpower benders if they timed it right.(Aang got captured by Yuan archers who are all nonbenders.) Azula knew of this and acted according to it. She is talented bender and you may think that she should enlist other benders to help her track and capture Zuko, Iroh, and later avatar, but instead she uses her nonbender friend to help her.

Even if you have no bending you can still fight… and win.

Let’s not forget that on the Day of Black Sun, Sokka was the one in charge and Azula was no idiot Azula knew that.

When Aang, Sokka, and Toph all confronted Azula, she proceeded to make them chase her and waste their time. Azula is not only talented, she’s sly and smart as hell. WHO WAS THE ONE WHO SAW THROUGH THAT BS CHASE?

Sokka.

NOT ONLY THAT but after Sokka explains to the Gaang that Azula is just baiting them, Azula actually verbally attacks Sokka. Not through fighting, but through words, knowing not only that an intelligent person like him could only be brought down with emotions BUT that Sokka was the leader and if she could get him the stay, Aang and Toph would follow his lead.

Azula knew Sokka was their strength and took him down. WOULD SHE DO THAT IF HE WASNT A SIGNIFICANT THREAT TO HER!!??!

No. She wouldn’t waste her time and energy on someone she didn’t think was capable of actually getting in her way.

WHEN SHE GETS HER FIREBENDING BACK SHE HAS THE OPTION OF ATTACKING BADASS METAL BENDING TOPH AND THE FUCKING AVATAR WHO DOES SHE ATTACK?!?!

Azula never underestimated the power of non benders especially an intelligent one like Sokka. Sokka was a huge threat to fucking Azula on multiple occasions. 

Remember that.

Mai was an expert with thrown weapons and Tai Lee was the only chi blocker shown in the first series, and she was able to take down half a groups of earth nation soldiers like that. Azula knows that non-benders are dangerous and she sees sokka for the genius he is

Sokka is one of the single most dangerous people in the entire series and it physically pains me that he so often gets relegated to the goofy non-bender in peoples minds. Sokka faces down some of the most powerful benders in the world without flinching. Even before he got his sword training and came into his own, even when he thought of himself as the useless member of the group, he was always the first one into the fray. He gets up again and again from shit that would make any normal person scream in mortal terror. His will and determination and stubborn refusal to quit, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds, carried his team again and again and again. Sokka would drag himself from one end of the world to the other on two broken legs if it meant he could save just one person and I will physically fight anyone who badmouths him.

Proses Menulis Perasaan saat Menulis

Pada saat menulis mengenai perasaan saya, saya menyediakan jeda waktu tertentu untuk memikirkan benar-benar mengenai apa yang saya rasakan saat menulis. Otak saya melompat bolak balik pada memori-memori saya saat menulis dahulu. Menulis mengenai hal itu membuat saya menyadari beberapa hal mengenai saya yang tidak pernah saya sadari sebelumnya. Saya menyadari ada perasaan negatif yang membuat saya kurang yakin dalam menulis. Dalam proses menulis perasaan tersebut saya harus menghadapi perasaan yang mungkin selama ini belum pernah saya hadapi.

Seminggu berlalu, tulisan pun dibagikan kembali. Ternyata, apa yang menjadi kekhawatiran saya di minggu sebelumnya justru tidak perlu dikhawatirkan. Cara saya menulis mengenai satu topik dalam satu paragraf sudah benar. Namun masih ada juga beberapa detil yang kurang saya jelaskan. Di saat itu ada beberapa orang yang membacakan karyanya dan saya merasa kagum karena mereka dapat menuliskan pikirannya dengan menarik. Saya pun mencoba untuk memperbaiki apa yang kurang dalam tulisan saya dan mencoba menggambarkan topik sejelas mungkin.

I was re-watching some of my favorite Andy/Haley episodes on Modern Family and I noticed something. Jokes aside about Haley being Hyde and Jackie’s future daughter or Sarah Hyland being fan favorite fancast for JH daughter, here’s this:

The first time Hyde and Jackie kiss, Jackie assures she felt nothing and asks Hyde if he did. He lies and says that no, he felt nothing too. And we can see hisbody language and just enrie face how much he’s lying:

In similar fashion, when Haley and Andy first kiss, they are talking about how if one of them felt somorever)ething out of it, it would be a disaster and he is sure she would had been infatuated with him by now. She calls bullshit and he keeps assuring her it would had happened. So, to shut him up (and because she’s been wanting to kiss him since forever), she kisses him and says that nothing happens.

But Haley’s reaction reminded me of something,

or more like, she reminded me of someone:

I find a lot of similarities between both couples, but especially between Hyde and Haley in the ‘where do I go, what should I do, do i deserve this bit of happiness with this too good for me person’ sense and the fact that both are openly rebellious and sexual and incredible closed when it comes to their actual feelings. Hell, Haley is not able to say ‘I love you’ to Andy directly, does it sounds familiar?

What I found interesting is that the parallels between both couples can be made on a very deep and meta level, because in the outside they may not be much alike. In fact, I’m sure people may think that Haley is more like Jackie, since both are spoiled girls with a high interest in fashion.

Both female chracters share their ‘funny’ tropes (shallow, spoiled, fashionist, popular girls), but Haley shares her deeper tropes with Hyde the most (laziness out of insecurity about the future, commitment issues, alcohol and drug use as supposed recreation but actual copping mechanism, smart but lazy, bad at school but not dumb, loving and passionate inside, pining for the optimistic dreamer, I could go on).

For me, it’s great to find these similarities in two of my biggest OTPs ever. Yes, I have a type in OTPs even, it seems.

And it amuses me how much people like the idea of Sarah Hyland being fancasted as Hyde and Jackie’s daughter, especially if sharing most of Haley’s highlight moments. Seeing her share these bits of characterization so similar to Hyde’s just adds to the magic.

Not to critique evolution, but I would think orange and black stripes wouldn’t be as good for camouflage in a forest as, say, green and black would.

It turns out a lot of animals can’t see the difference between orange and green!  Elephants, for instance, have dichromatic vision (two types of cones, rather than three like most humans.) 

Check out this diagram from ResearchGate.  It deals with the color vision of horses, who are also generally dichromatic.  (I think, though I’m not sure, that zebras would have the same color vision as horses.)  See how orange and green look to them?

It doesn’t matter what zebras see, because tigers are not native to Africa and do not naturally hunt zebra.  Tigers are Asian and mostly hunt animals like deer, elk, and buffalo.  These aren’t animals with great color vision.  They don’t need to have it because they don’t eat fruit and so don’t need to know when the berry is ripe vs when it’s not.  Good color vision is too expensive to have if you don’t need it.  Deer put their vision stats in a wide field of vision that is sensitive to motion, low light capabilities, and possibly seeing UV light.  They don’t have great color and lack a lot of acuity, but have a great sense of smell and good hearing.  That’s way more useful if you’re prey.  Deer see well in the blue end of the color spectrum and less well in the red.  This makes sense because deer are most active in the dawn and dusk periods, when there is more blue in the light.  Tigers are taking advantage of deer eyesight by being orange.

We see tigers are being obviously colored because tigers are fruit colored to our tree ape brains.

Ok but like, I think you underestimate just how well they blend in when actually in the environment. Like, just using tigers as an example.

It’s called ‘disruptive colouration’ because the markings help to break up the animal’s outline against the grasses or rocks. And the rosettes on leopards and jaguars? Sun spots shining through the trees and leaves on the ground.

And this is how hard it is to spot them WITH colour vision. Now imagine the above images but with the limited coloured mentioned above?

took away his hammer, signifying that Thor was indeed a character beyond the hammer

took out his eye, signifying that Thor was powerful beyond his physical attributes and ready to take on the responsibility as king 

put Thor as the underdog in the situation, reminding the audience that Thor is clever and intelligent, not only optimistic and cheerful, and purely brawn

had him meet Valkyrie and earn her loyalty, showing him as a leader ready to right the wrongs of Asgard’s past and encourage his people to a better path

developed his relationship with Loki, reminding the audience that they were still brothers and Thor had great capacity for forgiveness, but wasn’t stupid enough to blindly trust Loki 

destroyed Asgard, showing that Thor is ready to take, make, and recover from the big sacrifices and do whatever it takes to keep, care, and protect his people
