The Jewish Federation: Preserving the Jewish culture

Going back in history, Jews were an ancient people who residing in Europe for more than two thousand years. When the Second Temple in AD 70 was destroyed, the Jews were expelled from Israel by the Romans. Jews have a strong vocation of being called by God to be sanctified people with a moral mission for mankind. Their religion is monotheistic, which means that they believe in one and omniscient God. Their most treasured books are the Torah and Tanakh (Hebrew Bible).

Today, Jewish people are now officially considered as an ethnoreligious community rather than solely a religious grouping. Judaism is not only a religion but also a way of life. Some Jews identify themselves as secular or somewhat secular. Some find their identities in the Jewish culture through culture–including film festivals, klezmer concerts, and fiction.

The Jewish Federation strives to strengthen and support their community in Kansas City within a framework of Jewish values. It has programs for the youth and families, for senior adults, and even Jewish émigrés.
