TO CLARIFY: the party members work kind of like how SM64DS does it where they show up in the opening of the game but then they run off and get captured in different areas that you have to rescue them from frolic's at toriel's house, scared out of his mind scamper's in snowdin probably cursing out anyone that passes them by prance is in waterfall. lord help her.
