Despite Ivan pushing her to leave, Octavia wanted to stay. She wanted to prove to them that she wasn’t just a girl, a girl with a loud mouth and no second thoughts. Her grip remained tight upon the man’s throat, showing no signs of walking away just yet. The knife was still held tightly within her fingers, she urge to do more was heavy within her gaze. She wasn’t weak, and she wanted to show them. But she still felt the presence of Ivan behind her, causing her to sigh heavily as she pulled her up and shoved the knife back into her jeans. She didn’t say a word as they left the alleyway, and she only paused when she noticed he was still there. “What? Are you expecting me to say thank you?”
He stood behind Octavia, not really commanding her to let the man go but hoping she’d make the right decision. The men probably deserved it, but he knew this country had a problem as it was taking any sort of assault on women seriously let alone if it ended in manslaughter. When she finally stood up, he felt his body relax before making eye contact with the man on the ground. “Think twice before you you assume a woman is weak,” he spat out before following behind the girl in long strides. When she snapped at him, he looked around them as if taken off guard, “More like I wanted to make sure you were okay.”

▕ ▵ ▏ Never had Davina been so okay with starting a school year (semester) with some kind of assessment. So here she was, in one of the practice rooms of the music department, sitting on a piano stool with fingers gracing over white and black keys. From memory, Davina played Chopin’s Prelude no.4. The minor chords, the slow pace, the melancholic tone, it was just something right up Davina’s alley ❝ Not hard enough ❞ She told her self before she began looking through other sheets of music hoping to find a better piece.
It had been a while since Ivan did anything but train and patrol. It seemed Klaus had moved on from his conflict with his brother and entered some sort of domestic lifestyle. Surely that meant he, his brother and Alex could return home soon, but Ivan half wanted to stick around to make sure Gabriel and his pack got the respect they deserved as they became part of the Quarter’s hierarchy. He was a long way from home and had been so for too long, it made him feel on edge. So he decided to go out, visit one of his only friends in the city. More than a friend actually. He stopped when he entered the room, realizing she hadn’t noticed him, and listened to her play. “You’re too hard on yourself,” he said, walking up behind her as she looked for something else to play, “That sounded great.”
The sudden movement in front of her caused her to freeze in the moment as her brain caught up with itself, revealing who her saviour was. Ivan… Of course. But Octavia didn’t have a second spare to ponder as she threw her fist backwards in the hopes of winding the man stood behind her. She only had a small window to stand up and turn around, kicking the man backwards, causing him to cripple over onto the ground. Her small frame jumped on top of him as she pulled out a pocket knife she always kept with her. “I might be a street rat as you like to call me, but at least I have bigger balls than you do.” he tried to wriggle as he found some of strength back, causing her to panic and using the blunt end of the blade to punch the side of his head, her other hand tight on his throat.
Ivan slammed the man beneath him’s head into the concrete, watching him lose consciousness. He sat up, letting out a deep breath before looking over to the girl who had been able to handle herself. He stood quickly, catching the fist of a third man coming at him and bringing his forehead down hard on theirs. “I don’t think the self defense claim will help you get away with murder,” he commented, offering his hand to Octavia, “Come on, leave these sad men to wallow in their insecurities.”
Maybe in hindsight she shouldn’t have gotten involved in a fight that wasn’t hers, but Octavia had never been one to stand idly by while loud mouthed idiots preyed on the weak. In the dark alleyway, the blow to her back was unexpected, causing her hands to get caught up in broken bottles on the ground to steady herself. “If you want my money just take it,” she grumbled as she kept her gaze low, “not like there’s much to pass around anyway.” she mumbled that last part as her gaze lifted to follow one of the men as they circled her, pausing to stand in front of her. He spoke of not wanting her for her money, but she caught little of what he had to say as her mind frantically tried to put together an escape route.
Ivan hated drunken bigots as it was, but especially despised them when they decided to act tough by roughing up others. He could tell who they had on the ground when he entered the alleyway. Usually just interrupting was enough to break up the scene and he had promised his brother that he wouldn’t get in too much trouble in New Orleans. Then he recognized the voice that came from the girl on the ground. Without another thought he tackled the man standing before her to the ground. “I know, I forgot to say something witty first,” he spat out, throwing the man off of him and rolling on top of him to crack him in the jaw with a closed fist.
Aidan watched as the arrow set itself behind him, turning his gaze back at the young man. When he noticed the bow lower a bit and the other man step forward, Aidan lowered his gun, though he still kept it in hand. “Yeah, ‘target practice’,” he repeated as something deep inside him made him want to shake his head in slight disbelief. “Well, speaking of bites, you might want to get back inside. Rumor has it there’s something out here, and I heard it doesn’t play nice.”
“Is there?” the long legged witch walked past the stranger to pull his arrow from the tree. He let out a small hum as if deeply considering whether or not it was a risk being in the woods. “I can’t say I’m really all that scared of a rumor,” he reached back to slide the arrow into the quiver strapped to his back, “Nor do I believe I’d be unprepared if I were to face this something that doesn’t play nice.” He took a casual step towards Aidan, “What about you? Clearly you aren’t out here before you’re worried about that.”

▕ ▵ ▏ Her brows rose, one minute he was talking about Finn and the other he was taking it all back. She always found Ivan to be clear, transparent and she loved that about him; so when she found herself confused by him she wasn’t all that sure what to do. He was quick to change the subject back to her but she wasn’t ready to let things go yet ❝ So you are urging me to seek help, but you won’t with Finn ❞ There was no sass behind her comment ❝ I don’t know why you shouldn’t involve me and I am not going to push, I don’t want to fight you. All I am saying is that you’ve been trying to drill in my head how witches don’t have to do things alone, and I’m not in your coven but I would never leave you to do anything alone. I get it, you have your reasons to not let me get involved, but sometime ends justify means and catching him very important becuase he causes a lot of harm … Just keep that in mind ❞ She ended with his own words to keep things light. She reached up and kissed his Adam’s apple ❝ My family’s cabin is near by, you want to come, have a water break? ❞ With her fingers still hooked on his pockets she began to walk backwards towards the direction she came ❝ You’re already said no to me in this conversation, so you are are out of those, you have to come along now ❞
“Davina,” his eyes closed when she almost start to push a little about Finn. He could tell this was her trying to be argumentative. This was just her making a point. “There are a couple differences here,” he let out a small sigh, “One; you need help for your control and training, but I am already fully trained and have nearly impeccable control. Two; This is what I do, it’s my job and I usually am sent in alone. Finn may be inhabiting a body of a witch, but he spent a majority of his life as a vampire. I’m not scared of him.” When she kissed his neck, he couldn’t help but smile knowing that she had trouble accommodating for their height difference when he wasn’t leaning down. He had been a bit tense lately, he wasn’t oblivious to that, but he felt his body relax just a little at her touch. “I didn’t realize I had limited no’s,” he he stepped forward, smirking finally appear on his lips as his feet moved in line with hers, “Fine, yes, water break it is. It’s fucking hot out here anyway, I hate the weather over here.”
“Nothing is more frustrating than having something that should theoretically work not work”
“What’s not working? I’ll make it work.”
“Got to say, I love a man who works with his hands.”
“Sexy, hmm? I see, so you’re just trying to give me a tale to tell. Is that it? Not that I mind, mind you, nor do I disagree with the sexy comment.” Charles replied as he found himself closer to the other male. “Though, I think you should be the one complimenting me. Considering I could have been laying on the floor.” Okay, so he might have just been way too dramatic, but he was milking the moment for all it was worth. “If you’re going to impale me, you should at least buy me dinner first.” His eyebrow raised, the smile not faltering, “Care to share or are you part of a super secret hunter society?”
“Well, I like to leave an impression at the very least,” the witch couldn’t help but flirt even the smallest bit, “I see, giving me a guilt trip so that I’ll tell you that you’re sexy too. Well you definitely are.” His words caused a laugh from Ivan, the kind of laugh he hadn’t given in this city in a while, “I suppose that sounds fair. Just name the time and place, Charles.” Licking his lips, he spared a glance at the wooded area around them, “No, not exactly. Though I’m not sure I can say all that much about it really.”
“Even a master archer might have trouble hitting someone with supernatural reflexes, mate. No offense to your abilities.” He was just pretty certain of his own. “Well, Finn Mikaelson might be worth investigating. Although I’m not completely sure if a bow will help a lot against him. He didn’t have a lot of trouble killing a werewolf and a witch, and they probably had more effective weapons against him.”
“Oh you wouldn’t be my first vampire,” the witch let out a sigh, “You’d be surprised how varied my experiences are. How about you not give me a reason to want you dead and we don’t have to worry about it.” At Finn’s words, Ivan sighed again before raising his hand as a flurry of wind spiraled around them. “My feelings are staring to get a little with how much you’re underestimating me,” the witch finally smirked a little, “I have more weapons that you can imagine.”
▕ ▵ ▏ When her eyes feel upon that smirk, all she could do was smile in return. Naturally she gravitated towards him, her steps steady ‘till she got to him and when she did her finger hooked on to his front pockets. Head titled back ever so slightly as she looked up at him, she always felt so short around him ❝ You think Finn is here? I can help, him and I have a score to settle anyways ❞ Her lips pressed into a pout as the air she sighed came out of her nose, the anger that showed in her eyes it was surprising she didn’t breath out fire. ❝ Yeah I’ve been here, trying to medicate and get a better control of my powers. I know you said you are willing to help butI had to try on my own first ❞
“No,” he held up a hand at her offer, “No, I shouldn’t involve you in this.” He knew he couldn’t really explain and knew she wouldn’t like that. She had to accept it though. Orders were orders and part of his was that Davina was not to be told about the deal with Klaus and their mission now being to hunt down Finn. “There’s nothing wrong with wanting to help yourself. I actually can respect that,” he licked his lips, “However, you do enough on your own. You need to allow yourself to be nurtured by other witches or at least one other witch. Just keep that in mind.”
The boy he recognized from a previous encounter. It was fast, but the face was recognizable. And by the way he held that bow and arrow, Aidan had no doubt that he would be gone just as quickly as the boy would be if he pulled the trigger. “I’d like to agree with you on that note,” he said, the gun still pointing at the young man. “But first, tell me. What’re you doing out here with a fucking bow by yourself?”
When the man countered his question with one of his own, Ivan’s smirk grew slightly. “Target practice,” he turned just slightly and let the arrow go, hearing it hit the tree behind the man. “Not that I need much of it.” He held the bow in his hand now and took a step forward, showing no fear of the gun, “Come on, I don’t bite.”
The hunter kept his head low and his steps quiet as he walked through the swamp. He had heard suspicions of a mutt in the area and figured he could take some time to check it out. So far, the prints in the wet ground and the claws scratched into the bark of surrounding trees created a path as well as suggesting the presence of something big. Big and dangerous. And when he heard the sound of somebody else walking through the woods, he pulled the pistol from its holster on his hip and pointed it at the young man. aimed directly between his eyes. “Well. Hi there.”
Ivan took note of the gun aimed at his head before his gaze looked at the man holding it. A man he had met only once for a split second. His hands and arms didn’t relax, the bow still aimed at the practical stranger that stood before him. He sensed no power from him, nothing supernatural. He was a human, one who may or may not be in the know. “Hello,” the witch smirked, “I think this conversation would go a lot better if we put down our weapons. What do you think?”
A small smirk came to his lips as he noticed the way man looked at him. “Maybe it’d be a funny story for you.” In good time he’d probably have a good laugh out of it, but Charles didn’t exactly want to try. “Yeah, a hike.” He nodded, taking a few steps closer to Ivan now that he wasn’t being looked at with an bow and arrow pointing at him. “What were you doing? Hunting bunnies? Gotta say you don’t look like the type. Pretty savage.”
“Come on, try telling someone that this incredibly sexy guy hit on you one day and almost shot you with an arrow the next,” he gave a soft chuckle before shrugging a little, “Not bunnies, no, but I was hunting something in a way. I’m a lot more savage than I might seem at times, krasivyy.” While he spoke to the other witch, he amplified his hearing in order to try and hear if anyone else was in the woods or if he was sensing Charles’s powers the whole time.
“Probably. For the both of us. You need to aim very well to take me out completely, and like I said… I don’t react well on being shot. Or hurt in any way, to be complete.” He nodded. “I am. You, on the other hand… do you always take your bow for a walk? It needs fresh air from time to time?”
“I’m a master archer so that wouldn’t be difficult,” he stated, expression deadpan, “I also have excellent reflexes so no need to worry about being shot unless I want you dead. I sensed something I thought could be Finn Mikaelson and decided to investigate.”
