“Isn’t that the point of Halloween?” Jean asked, tilting his head to the side as he looked up at the wizard. “To look a little goofy and have some fun.” His already curved lips grew into a wider smile. He was aware that his own costume was not the best, however he had definitely attempted something.

“To be honest I’m not quite sure what the point of Halloween is. It all seems rather pointless to me. I mean, why would you want to make a fool of yourself by dressing up like an idiot?” Spencer questioned oblivious to all the fuss, though there was one time he’d taken part in the festivities as a child but his father was furious when Spencer came home dressed up with his face painted - it was safe to say that was the last time Spencer ever celebrated Halloween. “Now, what exactly are you supposed to be?”

“And probably what a lot of us need right about now. With everything else going on in the world, wouldn’t it be nice just to forget about it for one night.”

“You shouldn’t be forgetting about it you should be preparing for what’s about to come.” His tone softened as he met the blonde’s gaze. “Though I suppose one night wouldn’t hurt. I’ll leave you to your festivities.”

“Maybe not, but a few drinks could change that too.” Andrew joked, a slight laugh leaving his lips before ending with a shrug. “Shame. You’d be able to pull off a few good looks.” 

“And what makes you think I would want to change that?” Spencer challenged with a ghost of a smirk. “Yeah, looking like the village idiot.”

“Well you’ve definitely made me look a little silly now.” Odessa said to her cousin, waiting a moment before a thought overcome her. Pulling out her wand, she flicked it softly and his clothes transformed from those he was wearing to an outfit that mimicked the period of her own. “Much better.” 

“That’s not a hard thing to do.” Spencer teased jokingly. He found himself narrowing his eyes at his cousin wondering what she was up to as she pulled her wand out and before he could say a word his jeans and black t-shirt had been transformed to a period outfit. “What the hell Dessa?” The male exclaimed slightly annoyed.

“Get a few drinks down you and I don’t think you’ll be protesting quite as much.” His lips curled into a smirk as he spoke.

“You obviously don’t know me, and anyway I’m not a big drinker,”

“Because I’m not interested in making myself look like a fool.”

“What’s wrong with dressing up? It gives you chance to be somebody else for the night and also show your creativity.”

“It’s childish and stupid.” Though the idea of being able to be someone else for the night did appeal to Spencer but he knew his father wouldn’t approve of such childish nonsense.

“Couldn’t agree more.” Rabastan replied. He also hadn’t dressed up and had just come to the festival to explore the other aspects of it. “I’m mostly here for the beer tent. How about you?”

“It’s such a stupid tradition, everyone just ends up making a fool of themselves.” He found himself rolling his eyes just at the thought of it. “To be honest I wish I wasn’t here at all but I just wanted to get out of the house and didn’t really have anywhere better to go.”

“You’re insane if you honestly think I’m going to dress up.”

“Aww but that’s no fun, Green. Where would I get my entertainment from?”

“Same place as normal people -- books, sports, tv or something though it has just occurred to me that you probably wouldn’t fit under that category... you know, normal.” The male teased with a small smirk.

Jean tilted his head as he considered the other wizard’s words. Truly, when he had said the words, he had believed them to be reasonable. It was true, however, that the things he said without thought generally were not the most intelligent things in the world. The blond frowned, his eyebrows drawing together. “There is nothing dumb about wanting an excuse to throw out bad mugs.” He crossed his arms over his chest, though he knew he had already lost the debate. “Unless you can think of a better one?” He challenged, his typical smile returning to his lips.

“Why were they bad mugs? And if you didn’t want them why not just throw them away instead of breaking them?” Spencer countered with a bored tone. “I’m not going to make myself sound dumb by coming up with some stupid transparent lie to cover up the stupidity of dropping some mugs. Anyway, I wouldn’t need to think of one because I wouldn’t have broken them in the first place.”

“True, but I can’t help it. What’s the point in pretending to like someone?”

“You don’t have to pretend to like them but you don’t have to make them piss their pants either.”

“Oh, sh–” The words echoed through the room, directly followed by the clattering of mugs on the tiled floor. He’d been confident in his ability to carry all four of them right up until the moment he watched them all tumble to the ground. Looking up at the individual who had obviously witnessed the whole ordeal, Jean ran a hand through his hair. “I didn’t like them anyway.” He said, traces of a French accident evident in his tone. His eyes moved to the shattered pieces that lay at his feet. “It was all part of the plan.” 

Spencer raised a brow at the male. “You don’t honestly expect me to believe that, do you? If you’re saying that so you don’t look stupid for carrying that much at once please be aware you’re just making yourself look even dumber.”

“That’s probably because people are afraid you’ll curse them if they argue back.”

Bellatrix rolled her eyes, “C’mon Green. It’s silly to even pretend anything else.”

“And it’s pointless to argue with you,” Spencer replied shrugging.

Bellatrix raised her eyebrows at the male, “I assuming you’re saying the first is force, Green.” The brunette replied, taking a sip of her drink. “I’m the best company you can get.”

A smirk made it’s way to the male’s face. “Of course Bellatrix. Your company is always a...erm, pleasure?” He teased biting back a chuckle.

“You know, nothing can beat a firewhisky after a long day. That and good company, of course. I have one out of the two so I can’t complain” Spencer stated to the person sitting next to him before throwing back the drink.
