I agree with the message but?! this is tone deaf coming from one of the elitist, most prestigious fashion events in the world. you are rich to even be invited, an event where the ticket is literally $30,000.... I’m gonna eat YOU
None of you people understand the actual reality of how much the ultra-rich hoard. Aoc is not even a blip on the radar of rich. Aoc grew up poor in the bronx and continued to work as a bartender while she was on the campaing trail.
Is she wealthier than the average person? Yeah. No shit sherlock. But does she qualify...as RICH?? My fam...my guy....my bud.....the answer is simply No.
Aoc wants to tax the 1%. The people who can afford to buy space programs, influence elections and send countries to war.
She is not referring to...like....lil nas x here. Shes referring to jeff fucking bezos.
Please learn the difference between BEING WEALTHY (aoc) and being RICH (bezos, gates, etc)
For the love of god. SHE DIDN’T PAY FOR HER TICKET!!!!! OR her dress!!! She was invited by a designer who fucking paid for all of that shit!!! This is SO embarrassing!!!! Do you guys not fact check ANYTHING you read?? This is your level of critical thinking skills??????????? Yeah working class hero AOC paid $35k to go to a rich person costume party in a dress that said Tax The Rich and at no point did she or any of her staff think “hey maybe paying $35k to do this will make u seem like a hypocrite.” Of COURSE THAT’S NOT WHAT HAPPENED!!!!! This is literally LITERALLY what they are playing on Fox News right now you are all literally regurgitating right wing propaganda without a thought in the world. Please for the love of god when you see something that seems ridiculously out of character or doesn’t make sense, FACT CHECK IT!!!!
She literally said on her Instagram post, dress creds and all.
Some of you don't seem to realise that price tags on this kind of thing are very variable. Some people are invited to draw attention - I'm gonna bet most of the singers there did not have to pay, because they're part of the product.
Rich weirdos like Elon Musk have to pay for their ticket. Randos who just really want to hobnob with the rich and famous definitely have to pay. Also, this isn't a for-profit event - it's a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. It's very much not like, concert tickets or supermarket food with marked price tags.
The organisers invite elected officials (for free) because the Met museum is NYC government property (and if it wasn't it would charge a hell of a lot more than $25 for entry! As it is $25 per visitor (less for students, free for children and caregivers) only barely covers maintenance, climate control, preservation of the art, curation etc)
So basically AOC was invited as a matter of protocol, for free, and instead of showing up in a pretty dress and sitting quietly like they expected her to, she proudly wore a dress (from a Black designer, no less) emblazoned with TAX THE RICH in front of the richest bunch of elites in the city??
This is some astonishing bravery.
Kinda gay to make a wanted poster… why do you want that man? So you can hold him?
Yeah. Hold him accountable.
Hold him accountable for stealing your heart?

October 14, 1977, Anita Bryant is pied for her antigay bigotry at a press conference in Des Moines, IA.
It was 40 years ago today…
Never gets old.
40 years on and it still is gratifying
Anita’s still alive and kicking and being anti-gay. Thom Higgins, who threw the pie when he was 27 – and was poetically from Beaver Dam – passed away 17 years later at 44. Info on his life is here. The pie throwing was a big deal. In an age before the internet let gays feel connected, and long before ACT UP, the pie showed small pockets of gays that we could fight back.
Please listen to this guy’s video. Please and thank you.

[Video description: a TikTok of a black man replying to a comment which reads, “But aren’t there genuine risk factors associated with race. Such as higher rates of heart diseases amongst some races?” The man says, “This is a question I get a lot. And it’s valid, but here’s the problem with it. Medical schools often teach racial and ethnic differences without any context. We learn that Black patients have higher rates of heart disease, are more likely to have asthma, and are more likely to have higher hospital readmission rates. But we don’t often talk about how residential segregation, unequal access to high quality housing and unequal access to high quality healthcare are the root causes of these issues. Not discussing these at the same time as when we say “black patients are are more likely to have ‘x’” prevents us from being able to focus on the real issues at hand. These problems are not always biological. And when we don’t offer the full context, we make it seem that way.” End description.]
