Taylor Swift IS SUING....

no one. 

Taylor Swift, the singer-songwriter/white-feminist/amazing-performer is suing absolutely no one. The only people that she has filed a lawsuit against are the ones that had a direct issue with her as the person (sexual assault case). 

 If you haven’t noticed “Taylor Swift” is also a brand, which Taylor (the artist) is the face of that she has to support (or not turn her back on) because that is her support system in terms of , marketing and advertising etc. She is the artist, and some things are beyond her authority. 

This  means that if the people working for her brand has went out of their way to clear her album cover artwork, she has to either accept it or ignore it because it is something that she doesn’t have a direct control over. It also means that she can’t just call up her company and ask them to remove a copyright hold on a video because no one, I REPEAT NO ONE, has that much power regardless of who you are. There are rules that her company follows and since she has made it a mission to have her music available only if it’s paid for (which is not as right as it seems), the rules are a lot stricter and the restrictions are greater. 

SO, if you are going to say “Damn you Taylor Swift” every time her brand management takes something down due to copyright, don’t forget to say “Damn You Steve Jobs” every time your i-phone doesn’t work or “Damn you Bill Gates” every time Microsoft screws up your document while you try to insert a picture.

I’m writing this in response/addition to Constance Wu’s statement about how people consider white people to exist as just people, but that doesn’t work for people of color.

What Wu said, is absolutely true. Not only do we need more people of color playing main roles on American television, we need a variety of different roles to be offered to them. 

A white american teenager can be goth, punk, goody two shoes, obsessed with sports, obsessed with farm animals and basically any other category under the sun and no one would bat an eye because people are used to seeing white people in these roles. But, take any race under person of color, and when you try to put them in these roles, people face limitations mainly because they haven’t seen many poc actors in these roles. It’s like somehow latinas are typecast to be confident women with long dark hair unafraid to call someone out that is often dramatic, and when a latina teenage girl is a goody two-shoes with neatly pressed skirts, conservative dress shirts wearing a velvet headband, she is apparently trying to fit in or be part of white culture. 

This works with all races under pocs. A lot of poc actors (especially Asian)  are hired into the American media with some sort of accent representing their heritage, regardless if their family has spent the past two centuries in the US. WHen is the last time you have seen a black goth girl, or even an latina goth girl on TV?All the while, Indians or Chinese teens can only appear on television with strictness and importance of education strung to them. Importance of education might be important in Indian and Chinese societies, but only emphasizing that aspect of teen on TV unintentionally typecasts both that teen and every Asian teen that comes after them and limits them from being fit for other roles. 

We need native Americans and Asian families playing “normal” American families on television and not talk about race, not that it’s not important. Instead their dialogue should consist of non racial squabbles with their neighbors and talks about the local poltics and “what happened to Tommy’s dad, he didn’t come home last night?”. White culture and American culture are so disgustingly intertwined that people don’t realize by doing this it adds a new level of racial limitations for pocs.

The city lit up and the street lights sparkled before me . I’m wearing a red dress, and he’s wearing a suit. I don’t want a happy ending, my life has just begun. I should be arguing about aesthetics to a realist whose blog i just came across or making up stories about every tourist here in the perspective of a native beetle. Why am i  here with you? Maya's Mentors and..... Riley?

There are all of these people that seem to play the part of Maya’s mentors/guardians- including her very own mother, which is somewhat different from Shawn’s story- he couldn’t depend on either of his parents for the longest time. It feels weird, because I feel like Riley would be jealous that all of these people would be so concerned for Maya that no one would look out for her. And then she would be the one left with no one to talk to.

i don’t look down on teaching as a career, but it’s wrong choice for maya. They make her to be this beautifully broken girl with a lot of artistic talent and instead of having her aspire to be an artist or a publisher, they’re making her settle for a standard job. I just think this takes away from maya’s character that was so unique and special
