Em Dashes ( — ) are longest. like how every single autistic person seems to have some version of what I call the impermeable membrane which is like this sense of a veil or film or sheet of glass between you and the world. Like you can describe it to someone and they’ll be like oh yeah my impermeable membrane/sheet of glass. like people will talk about how autistics talk and move but I think a lot of autistic people have a shared visual language as well. or how autistic people have different relationships to gender the way queer people do. That gender is performed which takes agency and skill and creative choice. Even the concept that a lot of autistic people have interests that don’t match their aesthetic or aren’t limited to one subculture creates a unique type of cultural dissonance that would be a notable feature of any other artistic culture or movement. Like autism not just being something that acts upon you (as it’s described by everyone else) but something that’s expressed through you with agency and skill

i want to talk about the boot. not the wonderful accessibility decisions of the show (although I was very touched by Patrick Page’s post about that) but about how wonderfully the design team did with it

(if you don’t know what im talking about, here’s a video I found explaining the basics) I couldn’t find a good visual reference sorry

i was so gripped by how between the boot and the wall tattoo, it really looked like the underworld/industrialism/etc was physically altering Hades, the way the boot looked especially was almost like a part of him had been replaced and isn’t that so on theme??

I’ve seen this show live, and the proshot made me understand so many moments so much more clearly

hades saying “then doubt comes in” isn’t (just) some nefarious declaration… it’s him deciding to give Orpheus what Orpheus gave him: a chance to realize that they are the same. hades is making Orpheus actually experience that doubt that he sang about in regards to hades. And Patrick page’s expression in that moment is just so… he’s not gloating, he actually looks resigned, almost sad for Orpheus. Because they are both men in love. auwghsbxjakks.

also this hadestown proshot is what made me realize that hades literally built all that stuff in hadestown FOR PERSEPHONE SO SHE'D WANT TO STAY like SHE'S the reason he made it artificially hot and bright!! he's trying to mimic summer so she doesn't leave!! how did I not realize this before????

ALSO i knew the reason orpheus could finish the song was because he finally understood the fear and doubt hades has every time persephone leaves BUT I DIDNT REALIZE THAT THE TRIAL HADES GIVES WAS ALSO BECAUSE HE UNDERSTOOD ORPHEUS AS WELL!! like hades knew he'd fail because HE'D fail!!

also also I know there's a Thing between hades and eurydice but I didn't realize that there was also one between persephone and orpheus until now, and I think it's intended to show that they're foils of one another, that pre-seasons hades was more like orpheus and pre-seasons persephone was more like eurydice and that their focus on orpheus and eurydice is because they remind them of what they had (and think they lost) - the love o+e have for each other reminds them of themselves, and so hades wants to take eurydice away/lock her away and persephone wants to protect orpheus/let him escape because they're trying to prevent them repeating their own mistakes in their own ways

like the slime tutorial did not give me these revelations, all musicals need professional recordings for this reason!!
