yes i love nikki freeman as an antagonist because she is, at her core, a good person in a horrific situation watching herself from inside her mind. but I also love fucked-up not-nikki who's doing it all so what now.

one thing that I keep coming back to about nikki's character is that to me, there's a sense of infantilisation after the wish is made. we know from the get-go that whoever or whatever has overtaken her autonomy is young, fresh, learning as it goes (see: confusing her grief over sandy as sandy being her cat, and then having to correct herself) but additionally, i feel we see nikki regress in a misogynistic manner. wishing she was in work, even though she couldn't wait to get out of the place, so she can be with bear. not wanting him to leave her side at the party. the delivery of 'actually? no!' outside bear's car sounding like a petulant child when she's first under the control of the wish. the frown. the tantrum in the restaurant and the baby-like crying in the middle of night. the needing bear to tell her to shower, to check that she's not ill, to give her permission to make decisions about her own wellbeing without his input. the needing to be scolded when she puts together sandy's memorial before she can recognise the immorality of it. when bear tells her off for making the sandwich and says 'you cannot do that!' like a parent. yes, wish nikki is a brand-new being, but also, wish nikki presents herself as someone more dependant, incapable, and childish, despite nikki being an intelligent, accomplished writer, because it automatically assumes the woman bear wants is someone entirely reliant on him. the ideal woman is a submissive and mouldable one.

currently reading: The Knave of Secrets and House of Open Wounds. Currently on a mini sci-fantasy kick (luck of the random grab from last month's library trip) but if anyone has non-fiction reccs around textiles, crafts, or glass, please tag me!

current obsession: Has the public heard of beadwork. Or embroidery. Or glass mosaics in the byzantine empire. Or the production of glass in the 9th-14th centuries as a whole. The first two are the hands-on obsessions and the latter are reading obsessions. Also the warhammering will continue until the writing block clears up.

currently working on: So. Many. Damn. Projects. Ya boi needs to either cut down or at least tidy up the craft space so they stop all turning into the giant pile of thingsTM. I also need to finish a few drabbles. Long-term I’m hoping to use the coming months to get through my movie backlog, empty at least one or two of the craft stashes, and make a pleated dress with a wrap-like skirt (possibly with an asymmetrical waist but keep in mind I’m overambitious)

currently reading: mr monk open for business and in the middle of rereading galileos middle finger:heretics activists and one scholars search for justice by alice dreger and then in between not reading either of those i read a lot of ancient queer mags (mostly tapestry) for fun and for research

current obsession: legos muppets queer history old technology a pixel art project weve been working on for several years now

currently working on: lots of clothes i need to sew up and patch need to sew up one of my kiddos stuffed animals need to sew up my new thrift store shoes need to punch a hole and put a new grommet in my new wallet aforementioned pixel art project currently trying to reinstall xp from boot to my eee pc to play with some fun pixel art related programs that work in base code need to set up fafsa to get back into uni this summer and to qualify my kid for the childcare program @ my uni a paper mache bird mask and a long furby wip thats been on hold for way too long

Current obsession: Tomodachi life LTD. 70+ hours invested in this game and it only came out last month.

Currently working on: Customising a g4 twilight sparkle doll into my ponysona! Just need to varnish and reroot and he should be done. Might touch up the face idk.

Last thing I duckduckwent: 'evolve gender incongruence' because im trying to find an easy way to get a diagnosis for top surgery :/ cant find much on this service though if anyone has any tips or pointers pls lmk! Currently working on: Rewriting a chunk of my short film screenplay at the suggestion of my lecturer!
