“The Roses of Heliogabalus” Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1888) The painting represents a probably invented episode during a banquet with some people and the Roman emperor Elagabalus. The story tells that during the dinner,Elagabalus dropped a lot of petals on the guests and some of they died suffocated (in the painting are rose’s petals,in the original story are violets and other flowers).
