Rainbow pulled her hoof away from the nurse when she felt the cold sting of alcohol on her front leg. The nurse held an IV needle and catheter. Rainbow held her hoof close to her body.
Nurse arctic talked to the other nurse quietly.
"you don't want medicine?" said the nurse.
Rainbow affirms her with the closest thing to a nod she could muster.
"but you need your antibiotics" says the nurse.
Rainbow is too tense to speak.
"how about this... antibiotics and saline? Nothing else?"
she senses her confusion. "Saline is water, because you are very dehydrated"
She and the other nurses signal to each other and the IV bag is switched out with a different one.
Rainbow allows her hoof to fall back to her side, and Nurse Cloverhoof gives her the IV. "There you go" she says.
A few small bubbles travel down the IV catheter and squeeze their way into the nozzle of the IV thingy in her arm. It makes her feel freezing cold all over her body but with the cold, the moisture also returns to her body, like dew in a desert loosening her tongue again and her teeth become sticky, then slippery as they should be, and her eyes stop burning and if it weren't for everything else wrong with her this could have been the most refreshed she's felt since she left the womb. Nurse Reidhart throws a heated blanket onto her, and she nearly falls asleep.
After two hours, Rainbow dash finally squeaks out actual words. Her first worfs are: "I need to pee really bad"
A nurse hears her and comes close.

Valiance listened to the nurses' chatter while chugging jugs of soda in the break room.
"and then she tries to get out of bed! So then i have to put the guard rails up, because she wants to pee on the floor." (IMPORTANT NOTE: horses can pee on the floor if they feel likr it)
"and i'm like girl you have a spinal injury stand still smh you'll break your spine if you do that"
"did she let you put a catheter?"
"YES. FINALLY after she nearly peed herself."
"why don't you restrain her if she can't stand still?"
"oh my god are you really asking that. Oh my god. You want me to strap her down like a museum fossil?"
"it's kind of dehorsemanizing to restrain patients, i'm seconding that"
"well i'm not. I have 15 scars from patients biting me. HARD. and one of them had knives in her mouth and bit me with those instead of her teeth. Gave me a nerve injury"

Nurse reidhart walks in.
"She has been crying and flinching for the past 25 minutes and none of you have given her fentanyl for it yet?"
"*sigh* she denies medicine unless medically necessary"

"hold on she has a history, maybe we should give her the same meds they were already giving her so we avoid interactions."
"No don't do that" says valiance.
but then Princess Celestia runs into the hospital.
"i came as soon as i heard, my littke ponirs" she gasps. "Raimbow dasg.... Is she ok?"
Raimbow slowly notices the blindingly white pony looming over her. "What the..."
"oh shes ok yippeee. And who do I have to thank for her safe return?"
The hospital staff push the ambulance team to the front of the crowd. "Mr. Speedy! Ms. Blinky! And Dr. Ram! A wonderful job you have done!"
"no, no, no, don't thank us!" They say. "It was Nurse Arctic who found rainbow dash in the woods."
So the crowd pushes Nurse Arctic to the front.
"it was Valiance who helped me find raimbow dash, held the compass and first aid supplies, and sent out the beacon for paramedics, my Princess." says Nurse Arctic.
"Aurora Arctic and Valiance Valacyclovir! I need to award you for your bravery and courage."
The crowd could not find Valiance to push him to the front, but Celestia found him. She fires a beam at him. He takes the first clear breath he's ever taken.

He pauses. Everyone is staring.
Celestia blows the smoke off the tip of her horn, like a candle.

he crosses his legs to bow to her more formally and freezes. Celestia's chuckle cuts through the silence.

Valiance's eyes stick to her elegance, drilling for answers.
