Diversity win! Ancestral curse recognises non-biological parenthood!
Diversity win! Ancestral curse recognizes trans woman as eldest daughter!
Diversity win! Ancestral curse recognizes gay eldest's stepchild as firstborn!
...I sincerely hope that these ancestral curses are going easy on the new family members, because they really should get to have a transition period (pun NOT intended) wherein they can get used to the thought of being actually accepted as family even by an ancient familial evil.
I mean it's like, y'know, they do need a few moments so they can savor the feeling of being verklempt, right?
Writing prompt
Done! I've plotted the entire novel!
If you have 80% of a book plot and a bunch of thin threads, I fully recommend just buying a pack of sticky notes and finding a wall to stick them on. Pick a colour for the plot and different ones for chapters, themes, notes and anything else you need and just get it all up there.
It offers such great flexibility in moving bits of the plot round and figuring out what happens and when. I started out with a strong beginning and end - I just needed to weave the middle bit together. I now have the full thing! So definitely recommend doing this if you're struggling with plotting and weaving themes in.
Now that this is done, I feel like I can start writing now! This book is based on a dream I had (not like Twilight omg) and some life lessons I wish people had told me when I was younger.
It covers things like finding and choosing your family, coming to terms with the fact that the people you are related to aren't always the best people (and coming to terms with that), finding validation and self acceptance and learning to let go of people or things that would otherwise do you harm. All in a fantasy setting! Woo!
Oh and it is also very queer.
I love the characters and messaging and will post updates as I go because eventually - I will need test readers!
Now to come up with a fucking title.
Jack is one of my favorite characters in Old Gods Of Appalachia.

Btw, this is how conservatives keep getting to claim that trans people are a new thing no one has ever heard, because our history and existences have continually been erased or obscured systematically through out history.
The most famous example was 92 years when the Nazis raided the library of the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, the medical practice where the term transsexual was first coined and the first gender affirming surgery was performed in in 1931.
What did the Nazis do after raiding the library on May 6th, 1933? You may be familiar with these images
It is happening again.
I want to write a book called “your character dies in the woods” that details all the pitfalls and dangers of being out on the road & in the wild for people without outdoors/wilderness experience bc I cannot keep reading narratives brush over life threatening conditions like nothing is happening.
I just read a book by one of my favorite authors whose plots are essentially airtight, but the MC was walking on a country road on a cold winter night and she was knocked down and fell into a drainage ditch covered in ice, broke through and got covered in icy mud and water.
Then she had a “miserable” 3 more miles to walk to the inn.
Babes she would not MAKE it to that inn.
Are there any other particularly egregious examples?
This book already exists, sort of! Or at least, it’s a biology textbook but I bought it for writing purposes:
It starts with a chapter about freezing to death, and it is without a doubt the scariest thing I’ve read in years (and I read a lot of horror fiction).
This book can be downloaded for free on Researchgate, posted there by the author himself:
The Biology of Human Survival: Life and Death in Extreme Environments
Saw a Tumblr post similar to that detailing what actually happens to the human body as it loses certain amounts of blood
Honestly, there needs to be a book or video series or something covering these kinds of things for authors; some sort of a quick reference guide that keeps your writing believable not necessarily for experts on the subject, but enough to continue to suspend disbelief for the lay person.
Not "I can fix him (romantic)" or even "I can fix him (platonic)" but "I can fix him (with an air of soul-deep weariness, taking on a great burden)"
“It IS rotten work. ESPECIALLY to me. ESPECIALLY if it’s you. I’ll fucking do it but Christ ALIVE.”
This as a vibe 😂😂
I think about how hayao miyazaki said that love is two people inspiring each other to live. and to live doesn’t just mean to be alive. living involves finding beauty in the simple moments of being. so to inspire someone to be in awe of the simplicity of living? that’s special
