Clockwork watched Ryan bleed out. In the case of most deaths, he felt nothing. He felt no connection to most, and as such, had no reason to mourn their deaths. There had been very few cases he felt some kind of connection to one who died, and more often than not he had felt grief when they died.
Very few he had had a negative connection to. In those cases, he had felt relief for those left alive.
One would expect the same feeling with Ryan. But it wasnât the case. He felt no relief over Ryanâs death, nor did he feel any remorse or guilt in the fact he murdered the man. He felt nothing.
Nothing but the disdain he had towards Ryan for some time now.
Not even Ryanâs blame-shifting could get him to feel something more. âNo, Ryan.â Clockwork lifted the blade up, levitating it over his palm now. âYour actions brought innocents into this.â He then clenched his hand, and the knife above it sparked with raw power before bursting into shrapnel. âAnd I have just spared many more.â
It was no surprise to him that the ghost just watched him suffer. That was just typical for a ghost. They all never really cared about others. He knew that. Nothing was going to change that.
But what was he supposed to do once dead? He couldnât return if he did become one of those foul ectoplasmic scum. Not that he feared being caught by his own men; no, he just didnât want his daughters to see him as a ghost. He also didnât want them to learn that a ghost had, once again, taken someone close to them away again.
... Nor did he want this continue. First, they took the life of his wife and now him? They could attack his daughters next. Which meant he had to do something about it. He had to find a way to stop every single ghost from leaving the Ghost Zone just to keep them safe. But how? Ghosts were rather strong.
And he was going to become one.
It finally clicked. There was nothing he could do about it. Ghosts had no emotion. He wouldnât feel anything for his daughters. He wouldnât care if they lived or died. Even if protecting them became an obsession, he wouldnât really care about them.
He began to lose focus on his mind; upon the thoughts that had entered his mind when it came to his daughters; once the ghost began to speak again. As best as a man who was dying could, he focused on the vile being before him.
A small chuckle - almost forced - left him. His actions brought into innocents into this? âNone of you were innocent.â The only innocent people were his family, himself, and the ones who worked for him. The rest were far from innocent.
âYouâve done nothing,â another pause, âbut hurt others.â And helped the next person in line for his job to finally get it. But that was different story all together. âYou really should have stayed out of this.â
