Having fucking Spock teach her what love is was an insane but brilliant writing choice. He sees her looking and he tries so hard to look inconspicuous and empty. But he can’t stop himself from feeling love in his heart, especially because in that moment there’s a fair chance he’ll never see Jim awake again. And when she touches Spock’s shoulder, the experience of love is so obvious, so self-explanatory, that a species that is entirely without the ability to care more about another than oneself instantly understands the true meaning of love.
