My dad told me a Queen Elizabeth x 9/11 combo joke but idk if it works in English
It goes something like this
Q: Why can’t Americans play chess against the British anymore?
A: Because the British are missing the queen and the Americans are missing two towers (rooks).
To whoever unfollowed me for this: I didn’t even come up with the joke myself, you should unfollow my dad instead.
As a part of the Chess Fandom™️ and also from a colonized country, this was the first image I saw the day the Queen died on my whatsapp chess club group:
So yeah, that’s how the news broke to me.
an incredible update to this post
We celebrate David Bowie, Freddie Mercury and Prince for their gender-nonconforming amazingness as we should, but let us not forget

The Ship of Theseus is a story of a ship which, over time, has part after part replaced. By the end, 100% of the original ship's pieces have been replaced. The paradox begs the question of whether it is still the same ship.
The Ship of Theseus is a story of a ship which has its pieces replaced one after another. By the end, every single piece of the original ship has changed. The paradox asks if this is the same ship.
The Ship of Theseus tells the allegory of a ship whose crew are replaced one at a time. Eventually every single crewmate has been swapped for a new one. No one left knows what the carved initials in the mast mean. The paradox wonders whether the ship is still the same ship.
The Ship of Theseus refers to a company which has experienced complete turnover and rebranding. The query wishes to know if it is still the same company. The debtors are asking.
The Ship of Theseus is about a family. The original constituents are dead now, replaced by younger generations which have dispersed, found love, married and gained new names. No one is Theseus anymore. No one remembers the bones. But the genes never forget. Who is the family now?
The Ship of Theseus is you, shed of all the cells which first made you. They're stardust again. You'll be stardust many times over. Who are you?
The Ship of Theseus is me. All my words have changed. Who do I get to be now?
Sometimes corporate speak is good. For example, Space X calling their rocket explosion a “rapid unscheduled disassembly” is the funniest thing I’ve heard all week
Happy International Women’s Day!
Marisha vs. pens and pencils
My elderly father started talking about how frustrating he finds “the pronouns thing” and I was like. Oh no. He had such a good stand on this, he’s been they/them-ing his cishet siblings for god’s sake! Is he regressing?? And he was talking about how difficult it is to remember, and how onerous it feels to expect strangers to keep track of it, and I’m like oh no oh no.
Then he says, “I mean, the problem isn’t the gender thing. The problem is four words: she, her, he, and him. We got rid of stewardess and turned it into flight attendant. It doesn’t matter if the flight attendant is a man or woman, so we got rid of it. We just need to get rid of those. I don’t need to know.”
“You don’t need to know… people’s gender?”
“No. I don’t care, I don’t need to know, and I don’t want to remember it.”
So we can relax. It’s just a continuation of his crusade to they/them the world. He doesn’t want to remember anyone’s gender. He’s abolishing the genders.
Absolutely unique

In light of Hogwarts Legacy’s mask off antisemitism, here are some traditional depictions of goblins that don’t make use of those gross tropes:
Puck is the archetypal goblin in English literature. Even Shakespeare’s version of him identifies himself as a goblin a couple times. He is also a fairy, though, because in folklore, “fairy” is an umbrella term for elves, goblins, gnomes, etc. The lines between the various types of fairy folk are very fuzzy. Puck, the hobgoblin, is sometimes the son of Oberon, the king of the elves, or sometimes dwarves, or both, and also sometimes the son of Morgana le Fey with Julius Caesar of all people.
I know they’re not as classic, but nice to have some more contemporary goblins that didn’t need gross tropes as well
Yes! I’m also fond of the Spiderwick goblins:
