This one is for the folks back home in the UK. MEMO - College sports are HUUUUUUGE out here, especially in the south. Seriously people have been camping out for weeks for tickets to AMATEUR GAMES (*confused)
But we have an understanding in 'our house'. I will support the South Carolina Gamecocks, and for his part he agrees that Miami Heat will be the NBA team of choice come playoff season. I am happy to go with that, I have bought the t-shirt, eaten the chocolate, and now I'm ready to feign vague interest in the game for a couple of hrs. Gotta run...

Home Grown Talent!
In 'my talented friends' Tumblr edition, I am shining a humble spotlight on Adora Oleh and the CHIAD team as they are busy cementing themselves as an international 3 city (London, NYC, Lagos) jet setting production force to be reckoned with.
I had the chance to hang out with Adora whilst she did a stint reporting for FOX (boooooo) in NYC. She's fun, fabulous and quick witted, just how us globetrotting Brits should be. The second season of her one woman show is on AIT in Nigeria now.

GiDDy UP!
Jeeez horses are BIG and SCAREY lol...but if you live out in the rural south, at some point you should try and saddle up. I did just that at Black Horse Run
Take note of the sign mind you, it's serious, if you have an issue with god being mentioned on a regular then maaaan, you're going to have a hard time down here lol. Before the ride, Jerry lead the prayer circle and off we went.
My horse took no notice of me, my commands, my presence, or anything else for that matter. It scoffed at my nervousness, and toyed with my inexperience. I was as effective as a wet lettuce leaf up there, but I'm a newbie, and I survived the trail dammit.
After the terrifying 30 minute ordeal, I am not sure I will be repeating anytime soon, I dismounted gracefully and went home. (The idea I fell off the horse onto my a**e is merely a rumor lol)

Doing The Charleston
It's hard to put forward any description that could give full justice to the cultural overload, natural beauty, harsh historical evidence, and general wonderment that is on show and available for your edutainment in Charleston, South Carolina.
I feel strongly that I was meant to visit this place, for a myriad of reasons, not simply for having fallen in love with Julie Dash's film 'Daughters of The Dust' many many years ago, but also because my visit seemed to fit perfectly into a 15 year genealogy tour that I don't even think I fully realized I had been on, until now.
My Journeys through Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Senegal, Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad, even London, and New York came together as reference points for understanding Plantation life at Magnolia as well as the speech patterns of the amazing Alphonso Brown on The Gullah Tour, and the agricultural knowledge brought from West Africa to Charleston which turned rice (not cotton) into Carolina Gold
I have rarely been in a place just a few hours, before starting to plot my return visit, but Charleston had that effect on me. For a nomad feeling 'at home' is a big deal, and Charleston definitely captured a piece of my heart.

Whoaaaaaa.....Where Brooklyn At?
700 miles away and counting lol....I've been on hiatus...AGAIN (sorry) life moves at a fast pace and sometimes I need a minute to catch my breath, and when I exhaled, I found myself enjoying summer in South Carolina...not the UAE or Qatar, like the palmetto and crescent moon of the state flag may have you believe...BUT I digress..I'm ready to continue to blog..can't blog about Brooklyn for a minute so I hope you stay with me as I embark on a southern journey.

Summer Lovin'
Brooklyn has to be one of THE best places to be in the summer, and from April, I have my eye out for the best, most unique, or F**k it, the cheapest cool places to be at (yeah I said it)
The fact that I will be down south from the end of May, is something to be discussed on a later 'Tumble'... for NOW, I'm adding Crossing Brooklyn Ferry to the April calendar. The Roots and Solange are headlining, alongside TV on The Radio (*blank stare) and there will be plenty of Art and short films to be enjoyed too.
During my University days our innovative and awesome Student Union entertainment guy booked The Roots to play one Fri night in the bar...in the bar (it holds about 200 ppl max)..THE ROOTS ha!...playing to about 50 drunk students who didn't have a clue who they were...Ah! the old days.

Summer VaCay???
I have been hearing about the power players who journey to Martha's Vineyard every year to relax and exhale, I hadn't realized there is an African American film festival there every August too. This place has really peaked my interest. Massachusetts may need to go on the 'to do' list.

New York Sound City 2013
No Sleep Till.....This years NYSC at the Wythe was amazing, my rap icon Monie Love, brought the hosting heat all the way from Miami to get the most out of our inspirational panel, and they dropped the priceless insider gems for a full 60 mins, before we finished up with some drinks, and catching my fave Liverpudlian talent, KOF at The Knitting Factory.
I have to say it, people from Liverpool really know how to come to NY, drop the pretension & have a good time....See you in Athens..Sound Citiers.

New York Sound City 2013
So excited to have been asked to put together the Hip Hop panel at New York Sound City for the second year running. The overall theme this year is the "British Invasion" I felt only ONE person could be the host......and guess what, she said yes...Monie Love people MONIE LOVE!!!
Coming to NYC has enabled me to work with some of my biggest inspirations growing up & working with Monie is no different..if you are going to be in the city, come to The Wythe on March 11th and check us out.

Grammy surprise
I know people will be talking about Kelly 'the body' Rowland's Grammy red carpet dress but do NOT let this steer us away from the fashion surprise that was Estelle tonight....I mean this pic does not quite do this outfit justice BUT she was doing her thing, stood out, and looked incredible in her ensemble that she collaborated with Love Collins on....Best I have ever seen her.
