This idiot has been in the blender for a WHILE but I havent made a full post abt him akdkd. Here it is, finally!!
More below the cut, but tldr, he comes from a violent past and gained his dominion in the leagues by being just as cruel. Hes a bastard. But the truth is that deep down, hes terrified of being vulnerable and making any close connections.
Anyway the lore for Hiro in my interp is that this bastard used to be top of the class in the Splatlands turf scene, and hes become Pretty Mean up there
Veronika used to be with his team. He saw her feral energy and thought that *this* was strength
However he started becoming a shitty know-it-all for a captain as time went on.
Veronika had enough (esp since this is a Splatlandian Inkfish, who she...has views about bc of historical reasons.) And challenges the fucker to a 1v1
"I win...I become captain. ye leave. Ye win...I leave."
Obviously she wins the fight and hes driven off
He...before hes picked up by Agent 5's team, I think he ends up with Wireglasses and they end up in a fucked up situationship awhile.
They think the same. Heres someone (a fucking asshole) who agrees with his ideas of strength. They build on each others mutual hatred of the "weak" for awhile. And then they start making a scene as a duo. Beating up all the less skilled teams and soloq players and banning said losers from the sport for awhile.
Until they come face to face with Veronika's team again.
"How about this. We win, none of you are allowed to play."
"Deal. We win, ye stop this nunsense... And stay awae frum me sight."
Veronika has gotten Floozed by then. Shes fucking humongous. She beats the shit out of them. And Wireglasses leaves Hiro after everytging hes done.
"Youre not as strong as I thought you were."
So now hes a pathetic washout of a player who Vee/Agent 5 had pity on.
He does....try with Veronika a 3rd time, but its not a fight he wants.
"No, I dont wanna fight. Just...teach me. Teach me to be strong"
Veronika looks startlingly like Tanara for a moment as she looks down on him.
"Ye dun want this."
"Anyone would want your strength."
"Its not strength I huv by choice. I survived."
Hes just quiet after that...little does she know how much Hiro can actually relate.
One wonders why the hell he wants to be strong. To be someone?
...or so no one will hurt him again?
He forced himself into indepenence. The one thing that was imparted to him by his family is that if he isnt strong enough, the world will eat him alive. Everything he had he had to fight for. Constantly flung or beaten, his skin grew thick when it really shouldnt have. Everything he needed he hid away from them. Living day by day in fear that itll all be taken away.
The second hes old enough, he finally left it all behind. Blood on his hands and fire in his eyes. Strength is what got him out of this terrible situation. Strength is survival. So he will continue to become the strongest, his feelings be damned...
In the end, though, his search for strength is what caused him to fall.
If he was so brutish and followed no one but himself, why did he allow Wireglasses to beat him down at all then?
...he trusts him. He trusts that he'll protect him from anyone else. He trusts that he'll make him even stronger, at the same time.
But noo, no. Hes becoming more dependent and pathetic by the second.
Theres a huge power imbalance here...Hiro thinks hes becoming stronger but all he is is becoming a blind disciple of sorts. Wireglasses sees him as a tool or a weapon but Hiro sees him as his savior.
