thing i drew before chapter 5 came out... i didnt like it enough to post but i think its more relevant now
I need to vent out my regrets I'm so horrifically sorry about what I did. Horribly. I wish I never asked for money. It sacrificed our friendship. I saw you as a little sibling and I let my obsessions prevent me from appreciating you before it was too late I'm so sorry I made you feel small. Your art and writing are gifts. I was so fixated on showing Spongebob is a cool and calm character and not a caricature that I unintentionally dismissed your valid opinions I'm so sorry I caused you to walk on eggshells around me at times. Your views are every bit as valid as mine and you are a better writer than me I'm so sorry I couldn't take a hint, reached out three times after being blocked to give weak apologies then rudely asked you to delete your Tupper of Spongebob, causing you to leave social media for a year going I was terrified something happened. After a few months, the reality set in I threw away a special friendship, and I had a moral awakening that made me reflect on my past. On ALL of my many mistakes through the 20 years online, and one of those mistakes was painful beyond words to face. Something inexcusable, something only the closest of friends would forgive, a mistake that makes me choke now whenever I think about it, despite my efforts to redeem it and it being so many years ago I wish I could go back. I wish I could try again. I would do those things differently. It hurts so bad knowing how hard I fucked up and how much grief I've caused. It's not fair. I was young, ignorant, and media illiterate. I changed into a completely different person. I want to start over... but I don't believe most people would let me if they knew my entire journey I'm so, so, miserably, agonizingly sorry I hurt you... you're the kindest, most literal innocent soul and I pushed you around with my pretentious attitude... I fucking hate myself for that. I let the toxic environments I placed myself in warp who I am in my heart and project it on people who did not deserve it...and now they're mostly gone I'm a horrible person. I'm trying so hard to redeem my past. I learned, made an exponential amount of growth, but it's too late... and I don't have anyone to blame except myself
I've been thinking about this ever since the Sonic Racing Crossworlds dlc, but how do you think Spongebob would get along with the Sonic cast? (mainly Sonic and Shadow) I have an inkling they'd get along and maybe bond over having to deal with evil geniuses on the reg.
I feel Spongebob is empathetic enough to have a positive connection with almost every personality to varying levels, so I think he'd hit it off with the whole cast besides the intense villains and maybe Vector The thing about Spongebob is he has a strong sense of sympathy but can't stand bullies or abuse of authority. He still calls out Mr. Krabs when he has to and they have a father/son relationship. So in regards to villains, lower examples like some of the Deadly Six (Zeena, Zor, Zomom) wouldn't turn him off so much that he wouldn't attempt to sway them (Zazz would make him mad uncomfortable though), but the genuine maniacs? Especially the irredeemable high tier masterminds? Black Doom, Mephiles, etc? He'd hate them I have a hunch Sonic's cocky attitude can amuse or annoy him depending on when it hits. An ordinary everyday conversation? He'd play along. "Good nickname for that Dr. Eggman guy. Baldy McNosehair. Face says it all." During a crisis? He would scold him to focus. "Are you sure you know what you're doing, Sonic, this isn't a picnic, you know. We might not come back." In other words I see Sonic's dynamic with him like a mishmash of his dynamics with Tails and Sally. Maybe a touch of Chip? Side note I always thought they sounded alike Shadow would be...interesting? Contrary to some, Spongebob is very conscious of boundaries. We see numerous examples of him backing down even in later episodes after the staff changed. There he just gets dumbed down occasionally to not notice when he crosses them for funnies. Realistically, I don't think he's stupid enough to annoy Shadow. SpongeBob doesn't want to be annoying unless the person has it coming. Nor does he stay where he's disrespected. I'm actually not so sure what their relationship would be. My first instinct is Spongebob would be simply supportive of him while respecting his space like everyone else
Instead of comparing Heffer and Patrick I'm in the mood for answering how Spongebob would get along with different characters Inbox me whichever character (s) and I'll brainstorm what their relationship would be
Done a clean sweep Should get back to posting
Hate when people make Spongebob act like a baby Infantilization =/= Adoration He CAN be sensitive yes, but he doesn't break down the moment his feelings are hurt and only cries during the most extreme cases. He shows the backbone to stand up for himself and punt those who disrespect him provided they aren't a monster Examples; Bubble Bass, the citizens of Rock Bottom, how competitive he gets whenever Sandy picks on him, showed composure under frustration while the citizens were mocking him for trying to invent a way to fly and snipped back at them, the entire Party episode, rather coldly shutting down the customers at Weenie Hut Jrs offering to be his friend lol) Don't show me that post Stephen slop "Day Without Tears" get it out of here, blatant exaggerating to revolve a whole episode around He shows too much composure during conversations normal and hostile to be emotionally unstable He CAN fall into paranoia/overthinking, is a little bit on the insecure side, kinda has a temper Isn't baby-like Just feel it lessens his character strength to make him a baby just because he's cute
I've compared Rocko and Spongebob, Ed and Squidward, should I compare Heffer and Patrick to determine who's a better friend
You know what can be kinda annoying? When people from other fandoms try talking Spongebob to me and it's. So obvious they don't know what they're talking about and project fanon from fanart as if it's canon, mention buzz phrases like "Stephen didn't want spin-offs/the 3rd movie", or praise the not funny "funny" faces. They aren't actually talking about the show they're parroting the stupid fucking conventions that have been slapped on this fandom I have so much passion for this character yet have to be careful who I show it to because a big chunk of the general population these days either treat Spongebob like a joke character or a genkie while I'm following the well-rounded straight man portrayal of seasons 1-3 It doesn't bother me. I just think it's lame because as far as I can tell other fandoms don't have this disconnect or not to this extent Problem with being a big franchise ig
why do so many furries flanderize/infantilize spongebob and dumb down the show oh wait
I wish more people talked about SpongeBob characters the way we talk about characters from serialized media.
Please someone talk to me about Squidwardās fear of being perceived as worthless give by his absent father and neglectful mother who pushed him on his grandmother half the time.
Someone please discuss the implications of Planktonās obsession with control stemming from the complete lack of attention he received as a child and his best friend leaving him for the opportunity for money.
I need someone to talk to about Sandyās feelings of separation from the world being the only land mammal in Bikini Bottom and how it feeds into her self-consciousness.
Can we talk about the issues regarding Bikini Bottomās unwillingness to adjust for other species like Plankton and Dartfish.
OH my GOD YES I HAVE A WHOLE SET OF ANALYSISā AND THEORIES ABOUT BIKINI BOTTOM SOCIETY!!! I have like a BAJILLION headcanons like these for the characters too, including (these for my favorite characters):
Krabsā PTSD from the Navy and growing up in poverty, and the way he ātakes inā outcast kids like Squidward and SpongeBob and yk like that BECAUSE he knows what itās like from growing up excluded with Plankton by everyone!!! (Also possibly the discrimination he could have faced by being one of the first CRABS to run their own business because I like to think that itās not common in Bikini Bottom.)
SpongeBob having a ton of issues with showing negative emotions and being the āsunshineā friend when heās struggling with himself, but not wanting to make everyone worried about him, but also resentful of the times heās viewed as āweakā or āchildishā because he wants desperately to prove himself!!!
Patrick being so used to being there for his friendsā problems and being the ārockā of the foundation family that heās become numb to his own problems because he thinks they arenāt as bad! OR also feeling a bit self-conscious about being āsecond fiddleā sometimes to SpongeBob, as hinted in the Musical!!!
AND I LOVE making theories about how different species in Bikini Bottom other than fish are viewed and treated!!! I even have a TON of mini-stories and moments in my AO3 series Iām writing about my SpongeBob OC where they learn the hard way fish arenāt very nice to other species of sea creatures, and especially them because theyāre a sea snake! (The ficās here if anyone wants to read.)
I call it āspeciesismā in my head for the worldbuilding narrative lol. OP, I LOVE this, and Iām so glad Iām not the only one who thinks this way about SpongeBob!!!
Inbox me characters you're curious what Spongebob's thoughts would be of/how he would interact with
Inbox is open for questions
Might do reviews for each of the movies. Per post
Theatrical Spongebob movies (so no Netflix specials, but I'll grant Plankton Movie calls back to Plan Z so it happens after 04) in chronological order
Search For Squarepants: Slightly younger inexperienced Spongebob that hasn't threaded life's lessons. He's literally still going through puberty, guy must be 18 flat or at most 19. Dutchman and Spongebob meet a 2nd time, we know this as Spongebob in season 1's "Scaredy Pants" didn't know how his ship looked yet he sees it in this movie. Dutchman doesn't recognize Spongebob (excused by he was in costume in "Scaredy Pants") while he does in "Aargh", his second episode appearance. Also says in this movie he hasn't seen Krabs in a long time. In "Scaredy Pants", Krabs fainted when Dutchman crashed the Halloween party, so he more than likely just didn't spot him, but he does in "Aargh" adding to Search taking place between the two. And Mr. Krabs treats Spongebob like a helpless baby The SpongeBob Movie/04: This comes second. Mr. Krabs has stopped treating Spongebob like a whole baby, but he still has some doubt in him where he views him as an irresponsible kid. Spongebob himself is given a layer of experience which he lacked in Search. It would make more sense from the narrative perspective of Spongebob's place in life and Mr. Krabs' relationship with him for 04 to come after Search Sponge On The Run: Sponge On The Run is the third chronological entry. This one is easy. There's literally a framed photo of a Plan Z mind control servant on Plankton's Wall Of Failures. The Patty Mobile itself receives upgrades that would've stayed in 04 if that came after. Mr. Krabs has also gained full faith in Spongebob Sponge Out Of Water: Admittedly you can interchange these last two as Out Of Water was initially going to set up the third movie, which got reworked into On The Run. I put it in the end for two glaring reasons. Spongebob himself is more mature than he was in any of the other films. He comes off as someone who's learned so much. He doesn't get the cheers. He doesn't look for anyone's approval. He's not concerned with proving himself, he is sensitive to the state of the world. I cannot see this Spongebob being before any of the others, especially Search. Just organically. Second is OOW, as mentioned, would've led into the third film's original plot about a space adventure to stop an evil empire. It ends in Spongebob and Gary presumably sacrificing themselves into a black hole which reports say would have transitioned to the beginning of the Pilot episode, implying they entered a time loop. OOW directly leading to this scrapped end-timeline story shows how late it takes place in the future. Now yes, it was scrapped, but the idea OOW happens late is still there. On The Run does end on Bikini Bottom becoming a snail sanctuary which isn't shown in Out Of Water, but I reason those snails are around, they simply aren't on-screen and in their homes. Hell I could say they're the army Gary leads. They would listen to him given it was his idea to move them to Bikini Bottom after Poseidon was defeated If you still think Run happens after Water because it was technically going to be the movie it would lead into, fair, but Movie 3 was reworked from the ground up. It didn't turn out a direct sequel so we don't know if it's still placed after. From where I stand OOW being after holds up the strongest
Spongebob being protective of Pomni anyone?
I'm losing my mind
