Hey ghoul!

Welcome to my humble little blog! My name is Michael, but you can call me Mike or Mikey, and I use they/them pronouns. This post will function as my blog introduction, so if you'd like to learn more about what goes on here at spooktacular-dolls, keep reading below :)

Purpose

The purpose of this blog is to give myself a space to post and share my collection, opinions, and miscellaneous ramblings related to Monster High and other toys. I mainly want to focus on Monster High, but occasionally I may post about other toys and brands such as Build A Bears and American Girl dolls.

I ran an Instagram account under the same name and grew tired of the app's constant push of analytics and turning yourself into an influencer. Honestly, I just want to have a little space to talk about the toys I love into the void, free of the pressure of making every post "perfect."

I am an avid tag user! I like running a neat and organized blog, so I have a system in place that I will briefly outline here:

Characters - Every MH post I make or reblog will have the full names of the characters tagged so they're easy to find in the future. It will always be their full name unless they don't have one (ex: Kieran Valentine would be full / Draculaura would not)

Generation - Every MH post will also include the generation the dolls or characters are from

#mikey's musings - This tag will be used on my original posts where I share my thoughts and opinions on new leaks/releases, toys in general, and text posts in general

#creepy cool collection - This tag will be used on all my original posts that showcase things in my collection or custom/restyled dolls

#our generation / #my life as - These tags are for the Target/Walmart equivalents of american girl dolls

About me

I've been collecting dolls since April 2022

I collect g3 and occasionally g1 monster high, living dead dolls, and yummiland dolls. I like american girl dolls, too, but they are out of my price range lmao

My favorite MH line is Sweet Screams, but I also really love the Inner Monster line

My favorite MH characters are Ghoulia, Valentine, and Draculaura

I started selling some dolls I don't display and/or connect with anymore and decided to follow the whole 1 in 2 out rule from now on. I have 5 dolls up for sale on my marketplace account and 1 doll is going to a friend, so that lined up perfectly with my planned new additions! I pre-ordered the Spelldon and Valentine two pack because of course I did, and my friends and I planned a little day trip to the NY AG store so I could get myself a Molly doll as a reward for making it into the nursing program! I am so happy to have these three in my collection now and I am so excited to display them.

I still have a lot of dolls to sort through and set up for selling so these 3 will be my last doll purchases for a long time. I am so thankful and grateful for the collection I do have, and I hope I can find a good home for the dolls I decide not to keep. I think this is a good move for me with my collection overall as I want to start focusing on appreciating the ones I have more rather than impulsively buying ones I don't really need.

I think it is time to downsize my collection tbh. I still love my dolls and collecting, but I don't really feel connected with most of the dolls I have because I have to keep most of them in my storage unit since I live in a very small space. I also think a lot of my doll purchases were motivated by my horrific impulsiveness and not by an actual love or enjoyment of the specific dolls. Now that I'm on adhd medication it makes it a little bit easier to control myself (still not great but I'm getting better), so the impulsive doll purchases have dropped, and now I'm just here looking at my collection like "damn. I don't think I actually want these dolls."

I feel kinda gross selling them even though it would be good for me to get some money back, but I'm not 100% set on donating them either. I don't know any kids or families personally that would be interested in taking some of the dolls and I feel weird about giving them to a place like goodwill who are known for jacking up the prices (thereby defeating the whole point of donating them to begin with). I think I'm going to ask around to see if anyone knows someone who would maybe want some of my dolls, and if not sell them. Still not sure but I really think I have to do this. I'm also lowkey a bad hoarder tbh so I think I also need to do this to prove to myself that I can get rid of things that no longer serve me

Rating what the ghouls packed for their concerts

Clear bags - 10/10 amazing concert etiquette, staff loves this

“Labooboos” - 7/10 not a necessity for concerts but people love to show off their trinkets so I get it, could get lost or dirty

Phones - 10/10 absolutely necessary, also it looks like they have QR codes on there so it’s likely those are their tickets!

Twyla’s mini fan - 10/10 sometimes venues can get extremely hot and it’s a great way to cool down

Twyla’s D20 - nat 1/10 girl you don’t need that

Draculaura’s keys - 10/10 someone needs to be the driver to the concert, I hope her parking fees weren’t too high

Draculaura’s lipgloss (?) - 10/10 keep your lips moisturized, sometimes they can get dry if you’re singing your undead heart out, also sometimes we need makeup touch ups

Cleo’s hand cream/sanitizer (?) - 10/10 hand cream is always a good thing to have, but sanitizer is even better especially if you’re going to a place with a lot of people and a lot of potential germs

Spectra’s ghost pepper hot sauce - ???/10 girl you’re going to get that confiscated why did you bring that?
