SUMMARY: after a trip to the trainer’s room has Jimmy expressing his true feelings about his career, you make sure to remind him just how wrong he is.
WORD COUNT: 2k
When the door to the trainer’s room creaked open, you weren’t surprised at all when Jimmy trailed in. This happened practically every week. He wasn’t even injured most of the time, and you knew he was just finding excuses to come and hang out with you.
And, hell, you couldn’t say it wasn’t fun at some points. Most of the show you are in the training room alone, or you have to deal with one or two minor injuries. But ever since Jimmy visited your office for the first time for an actual injury months ago, you couldn’t deny that his presence made your whole shift instantly better.
But that night when he came trudging in, you could tell right away it wasn’t going to be like one of those nights. No jokes, no conversations, no laughter.
He came in legitimately hurt. Blood was trickling down his face, his skin stained red with smears of blood. His hair was frazzled, puffy and disheveled. Jey was right behind him, guiding him into the room you were just a second ago relaxed in.
You shot up from your chair, swiping a clean towel and a roll of bandages off the counter like it was second nature. Jimmy crumpled himself down onto the bench, his head hanging low. You looked over at Jey, who was standing in the doorway with a worried look on his face.
“What happened?” You asked, pivoting back to Jimmy and pressing the towel softly but firmly on the small laceration lining his hairline to momentarily stop the bleeding. Your eyes were locked on Jimmy while Jey replied.
“Gunther, man. Just bashed his head open right in front of me. I tried to help—“
“Just quit it, man,” Jimmy started, collecting our gazes by his sudden comment that warmed the blood in your body, even though he was clearly irritated and hurting. “Just go. I’ll be fine.”
Jey stared at his twin for a moment, but eventually dipped and closed the door softly behind him. Pressure seemed to grow from the walls you were trapped in with Jimmy Uso.
You inhaled deeply, peaking at his damaged skin behind the towel that temporarily slowed its bleeding. You tossed it in the dirty towel basket, grabbing a new one and soaking it in warm water. Jimmy’s eyes stayed fixated on the ground, his lips sealed in a frown. It was so unlike him, and you had no fucking idea what to say. You were so used to his loud, chipper side. You’ve never experienced his low, silent side.
You steadied your free hand on the side of his head while you gently washed the stains off his olive skin. He closed his eyes momentarily, the negative energy so clear in his eyes as it radiated off of him. You kept your movements soft and gentle, attempting to provide any comfort when he was in a vulnerable state like he was right then.
You kept quiet, because the truth was, you didn’t even know if he wanted to talk. Maybe he was waiting for you to ask him if he was alright, or maybe he was dreading it. You had no idea.
You grabbed the bandage roll, pressing a gauze square on top of the cut before expertly wrapping the bandage fully around the circumference of his head. You kept your eyes on the task at hand, but you didn’t miss Jimmy’s eyes looking up at you, then back down to the ground.
You finished quietly, placing the bandage back in its respective drawer. The silence only grew since Jey shut the door, and it was to a point where you felt your chest start to tighten from the tension of it all.
“Are you okay?”
Your voice was nothing more than a whisper, but Jimmy heard it clearly. He inhaled shakily, his head still dipped low. He fidgeted with his fingers, something you just then learned that he did when he was upset or nervous about something.
But your heart cracked when you saw his bottom lip twitch, a simple movement that showed you how hard he was trying to keep himself composed. He shook his head, fidgeting with his mouth, brows crunching down with weakness. You hated it.
You absolutely hated it.
You glanced down, noticing his ring gear was smeared all over with his own blood. He couldn't have liked the feeling of his vulnerability literally lathered all over him.
"Let's take this off," you commented quietly, softly gripping the end of his tank top. His eyes met yours for a beat, shimmering with emotion. You felt your heart crumble even more.
He nodded his head once, slowly lifting his arms up so you could remove the article of clothing over his head. You laid it out on a chair behind you, turning back to inspect the damage he took in his match that you weren't able to watch. There were scattered bruises around his chest, a few glowing red marks across his pectorals.
You sighed, squatting down and softly resting your forearms on each of Jimmy's knees as you looked up at him. You didn't pay any attention to his battered chest or his bandaged head. You just gazed softly in his eyes that looked almost dead.
"Wanna talk about it?" You questioned.
Jimmy looked down at you, his eyes glistening against the bright lighting of the room. Your knees screamed at you from the squatting position you were in, but you didn't even care when Jimmy was your number one priority at that moment.
"Would you even listen?"
You internally flinched at the heartbreaking question, but you nodded right away. "Of course I will."
He blew out a long, shaky breath, running one of his hands down his face. He swallowed hard, his Adam's apple bobbing. He opened his mouth, but softly closed it right when you thought he was about to say something. It happened several times, and after you rubbed his clothed leg so softly, he finally spoke.
“I’m always just ‘the other Uso,’ right?”
You jerked back, hands frozen over his kneecaps. “What?” You barely managed to whisper.
“I haven’t spent more than three damn minutes on TV over at Smackdown. Then I get a call to come to Raw, and I got my hopes up so high for nothing. They used me to hype up my twin brother’s world heavyweight championship match at fucking WrestleMania.”
You inhaled sharply, a pinching pain deep in your chest sinking even deeper. You started rubbing your shaky hands along his legs again, hoping to provide him any sort of comfort.
“I ain’t getting nothing, y/n. Nothing. What the hell am I doing wrong? Jey’s getting a shot for his second singles championship, and I’m just on the side coming out to slap my lil’ brother on the back of his head then I’m done. Why can’t I just… be like him?”
“No,” you whispered, shooting up to your feet and planting yourself down next to him on the bench. You could see his face much more clearly, and your heart nearly disintegrated when you saw the smallest amount of tears welled on the brims of his eyes. You squeezed his hand reassuringly. “Don’t start comparing yourself to Jey.”
“It’s kinda hard not to,” he sniffled, his eyes gazing down at your conjoined hands. He fidgeted with his bottom lip, teeth biting into the plushness of them and drawing a speck of blood.
“I know,” you replied honestly, your thumb brushing over the roughness of his skin. “But comparing yourself to him is breaking you down when it shouldn’t. Sure, Jey is in a huge storyline right now with a potential of winning the world championship, but they called you to help build the story up. They counted on you—“
“Just because I’m Jey’s twin, right? The other twin that ain’t worth a fucking penny.”
Tears welled in your own eyes, but you forced them down, refusing to let Jimmy see your emotions showing. The last thing you wanted was for him to think you were feeling sympathy and guilt. You were feeling so many other things in a variety of ranges.
You grabbed a damp wash cloth from off the counter behind you, softly washing off the blood stained on his neck and upper chest. “You are worth so much more than what you give yourself credit for.”
You didn’t pause, but Jimmy did. You saw his head rear towards you, those dark eyes boring into yours. You continued washing off his body until the blood was washed away, those dark scars from his match with Gunther still on full, inflamed display.
“You are not like your twin at all, Jimmy. You are your own person. You’re Jimmy Uso, not Jey Uso. You are the one who lights up the crowd by just being you. You are the one that has the whole locker room loving you because you are you.”
You looked up into his eyes. “You’re the one who comes into the trainers room every week to hang out with me, not Jey. You are the one who can make me laugh so hard my stomach fucking aches, not Jey. You are the one that makes my day go from a shitty day to the best day just by your presence. I don’t feel any of that with anyone else, Jimmy. I feel that with you because I love who you truly are. You’re worth way more than just a penny to me. You are worth the whole goddamn world, Jimmy.”
His body visibly shuddered, his lips trembling ever so slightly. You rethought everything in that moment, regretting the part where you completely admitted your feelings towards him during a time where he is the most vulnerable and isn’t believing in himself.
Before you could start regretting your word choice even more, two large hands gripped the sides of your face, causing you to flinch. Jimmy caressed your face with both of his hands, holding you that you were the most exquisite woman in the world. His nose brushed against yours, your lips centimeters from touching. You were so damn close to closing the space between you two and getting a taste of his lips just like you’ve been dreaming of. But at the moment, his feelings and mental health mattered more than any of that.
“You truly believe that?” He asked, his thumbs running small circles around the flushed apples of your cheeks. You inhaled softly, nodding your head while looking into his precious, pained eyes.
“More than anything.”
Space no longer existed when he crushed it between you. You met him midway, his lips pressed perfectly against yours like you two were a match made in heaven. He curdled you into his chest, hugging you close against his hot, battle-filled body. You melted in his hold, your lips barely keeping up with the soft strokes of his own. Your whole body ignited a warm fire.
Your hands held onto his shoulders, your nails digging lightly into his tanned skin. His hands started roaming, exploring your body in ways he never has before. His kisses trailed down your neck, his hands rubbing all along your back. You hugged your arms around his neck, craving the closeness and comfort of him.
“Never,” you started, your voice quiet and out of breath from the sheer overwhelming feeling of it all. His head lifted up, his eyes piercing into yours. You caressed his face in your palms. “Never degrade yourself like that again. Never say you aren’t worth anything. You are worth so much, and I have no doubt one day you will have a few single title runs of your own, okay?”
His eyes glistened against the light above us, which was the most breathtaking sight you’ve ever seen. He let his eyes fall shut for a moment, inhaling softly with a subtle nod of his head. His gaze fluttered back open, taking in the sight of you pressed up against him before a bigger grin broke out on his face.
You laughed, because you knew he was up to something just by that certain look you tended to love so much, and make your thighs squirm at the same time.
