Ghost followed you home from the cemetery curious about who you are and what exactly happened to make you so angry.

The idea of going to the cemetery to tell off your dead abusive ex made you feel better... at the time. Now you just felt ridiculous. Someone could have seen you curse out and spit at a grave... what were you thinking?? You had to look insane.
Maybe the walk home would calm the nerves, wearing off the anger and embarrassment of your recent tantrum.
Leaving the graveyard, you couldn't help but notice feeling cold. Like the frigid from being outside too long on an icy day, seeping into your bones. Lingering and making your bones ache.
Perhaps sickness was setting in. Maybe winter right around the corner.
If only you could see the large hulking figure with an arm wrapped around your waste. It was black, longer than a normal human arm. A shadow holding you close, trying to console your feelings, but he was pulling your energy away making his stronger.
Returning home, Ghost stepped through the main door after shutting it on him.
Rude, but he couldn't blame you. He would close the door on himself in turn if he could.
Looking around he noticed the damage. The holes in the walls, broken items of yours from being thrown around, glass and debris scattered. It was all familiar to him. He was used to seeing this from growing up, but his heart fell, nonetheless. Memories of everyone in his household hiding and cowering from his father returned. Pieces of the puzzle all coming together.
You on the other hand made a cup of hot tea, still trying to shake off the cold burn you had picked up on your walk. Adding honey to your tea made Ghost feel nostalgic, something his mother did when he wanted something sweet.
Glancing over, he looked down at the laptop you were aimlessly scrolling on until you had clicked a press release from the local news. Reading over your shoulder, he learned what your name was along with verifying the name of the man you had visited that was in the ground. The man had been drunk when he struck you, trying to hold you down while you were trying to get away. Anger and panic rose within him, probably the same you had felt during the event. Luckily, you were able to slip away, calling for help... But the police were too late finding your broken lover gone. Maybe it was shame that caused him to take his own life, maybe it was something even greater than that.
How he would give anything to console you, to hold you and make this right. Can't you see how better off you are without someone hurting your beautiful self? You have Ghost now to look after you and keep you safe. He was here to take care of you, to make you his new home.
Out of the corner of your eye, you could have sworn a shadow was there. Every time you would look over though, it seemed to blend in with the rest of your surroundings. A trick of the eyes? Or maybe your head was still rocked from the assault. Either way, it pleased Ghost to know you could at least see something about him even if it wasn't his entire self. This fed him and made him stronger in his state.
Sure, you had noticed the little things around the house being done. Like the dishes being washed and the laundry folded and set on your bed. Pretty panties left on the top of the pile. Maybe your memory was still short from the trauma, but honestly you had no recollection of doing any of these tasks. It was like someone was taking care of you. Someone making sure your house and routine was running smoothly.
It was you hiring a handy man to come fix the holes in the walls however that Ghost learned more about his new abilities. Watching another man step into your home enraged him. Ghost wanted to protect you and have all to his self. He made himself tall, form black as night, not even a chance of any light shining through. Approaching the handy man slowly, like he was stalking his prey. The poor victim turned and ran, unsure of this unnatural being that was encroaching, all too sure that it was not of this world.
So, when you came home and the work was done, you didn't even think about it at first. Until you noticed tools left next to the check to pay for the job left on your table was when it seemed suspicious.
Who does the work and doesn't take the payment for it? The handyman even had gone as far to block your number after reaching out to get him his check.
Finally, what made you even think about someone else being in the house was the heavy footsteps sounding down the hallway and into your bedroom one night.
Sitting up in your bed, you glanced around, trying to calm down. Were you dreaming again? Still breathing heavy, trying to convince yourself that was the case and everything was fine. Until you saw the other side of your bed sink down... like someone was laying on it. An indent in the blankets and pillow where a head would be. The feeling to get up and run away was overwhelming, but at the same time you weren't exactly terrified.
Was it your dead ex?
"Who are you?" You asked.
Just as expected, no answer.
Instead, the indent moved as someone rolled closer to you, an arm slithering around you to pull you back into them.
He never held you like this... this was someone else entirely.
"Who are you?" You asked again. Still no answer. The cold feeling was back, and your energy was zapped, leaving you tired and craving sleep.
That's fine. You would find a way to communicate somehow.
Been thinking of Ghost who's well... Actually a Ghost. One day he was out on a mission and the next he woke up as a specter in his local cemetery buried next to his mother and Tommy.
It took him a while to realize he was actually dead once someone walked through him. Lifting his hand, he saw it was tangible. He didn't even realize he was killed on his mission until then.
Ghost who sees others walking around the graveyard the same as he did. Dazed and confused. Just like how the world was in the living, there were good and bad spirits. Leaving him wondering why he now had this shadowy form. Some leave, others stay, much like him. He had no reason to leave this new strange home... Until he sees you.
You were kneeling down at a fresh grave. Dirt dark and wet. Your voice was small and quiet, body shaking as you fought tears.
Grief is a fickle thing. He thought.
Until he could hear your words.
"You were a fucking asshole, but you didn't need to kill yourself."
Rage is a fickle thing. He corrected himself.
Looking closer at your delicate features, he realized you had a black eye, a split lip.
Still observing he watches you stand up. Almost flinching as he you spit on the grave kicking some dirt on to the headstone in the same motion. Glancing over it belonged to a man who was about your age.
A lover perhaps?
He never felt the need to leave the cemetery until he wanted to follow you home and find out who it was you were so angry with. His new goal in life death, was to curb your rage. He had a feeling he knew what you had just buried and he himself a man forged in the fire of anger could help.
Only he could help heal your bruised heart and face because Ghost Simon too came from abuse. He would love you better than the man you had just buried. The same man that had caused you grief and the injuries on your face. The same man when you decided to leave, took his own life.
Who knew your trip to the cemetery would be the best thing you had ever done for yourself. You now have a guardian angel... Or perhaps the devil himself looming over you to protect you to make sure this never happened again.
Hopefully your house can accommodate your new found Ghost. You are now his home, because he too comes from rage.
This is the most wonderful time of the year. Our Ghostie deserves to be celebrated!
I return back to work Tuesday from maternity leave, and plan on busting out a few more stories for Simon then before returning to Nightmare's Wasteland!

Thinking how Biker!Simon knows you're having a bad day, stressing about your car not starting. How he feels your hands resting between you both on the bike, in the sweatshirt you were wearing. He wants you to focus on the ride, not the easy fix that's already hanging around in his pocket. Thinking how Biker!Simon turns and squeezes the throttle making you jolt into him and quickly wrap your arms around him in surprise.

Simon finally being killed and conquered in the world of the living gets him sent into life with the dead. Ironically, the devil decides he doesn't want him sending him back to the world of the living. Walking the world as a spirit he learns he becomes almost real the day of Hallows Eve. Here he plays a game of trick or treat where either one must pay with some sort of treat or pay in blood with a trick. Which one do you think you will give the dead mercenary Ghost?

The end of October, the very last day of the month, Hallows Eve. Spirits and Ghosts alike allowed to roam the earth tangible instead of hollow and empty one more day. Many use it to check in on loved ones before settling into their graves one more time for another year.
One, however, has no family, taken from him many years ago leaving him angry and vengeful. The rage he feels and sees through is not unbridled however, but deserving of whom it falls upon.
A seeker and trickster. Those who cannot pay the price or figure out the riddle of trick or treat is who falls victim in paying his anger.
So when you are home, making fresh rice krispy treats and homemade popcorn balls because you believe in giving children more then processed candy like the good girl you are- he's very eager to ring your doorbell.
Would you answer the door and be terrified of the looming shadow of black before you before closing it? Or would you peep through the windows first and not answer the door. Either way, if that's the route you will choose, it will end with you paying the price of your blood and soul.
Maybe, even maybe, you will answer the door and be a smart good girl and give him a treat. It's all he wants after all. Someone to care, to give him something... But he was never that lucky even when he was actually alive.
He knocked loud and heavy before pressing the doorbell, it sounding loud and ominous to him, but no different to you. Waiting a little bit more, he can hear you shuffling about, pans clanking together. You were hurrying, but he had no time to waste. Normally he gives three chances before he makes his way in. Pushing the doorbell one more time before he made his choice, he heard you call out to him.
"Hang on a second!"
Ten seconds can make a death.
"I'm sorry, I didn't expect it to start so soon!" You called out, approaching the door quickly before flinging it open a wide grin that soon disappeared.
Your eyes were wide and solid looking up at the figure before you. A skull mask of what looked like real bone.. (if only you knew) clouded with black underneath. Burning brown eyes staring back down at you. A cloak cascading down around him. He had to be on stilts under there to be so tall.
"Wow.. you went all out."
Ghost had expected fear like normal. The door to be forcefully shut in his face, for him to either stop it from being closed or kick it down to get to his treat. This was all so surreal for him as well.
Your tiny hand in comparison to his held up a rice krispy treat on a paper plate.
"I normally wrap them in plastic, but they are still warm... Probably sticky too so be careful, don't get it on your costume."
Taking the plate he still stared at you, enamoured with your bravery and kindness. He had waited a lifetime for something like this... And he was now dead. What a fucking trick.
A different voice broke him out of his trance.
"Shut the door, babe."
Making Ghost look back up from you, he could see another male in the house. Must have been your husband from the way he was standing behind you. Ghost couldn't blame him, he would protect you too if you were his. Hell, he probably wouldn't even allow you to answer the door knowing that there are men out there like him.
Ghost glared back at him.
"Shut the fucking door, babe."
This time it was more direct, fierce.
"Have a good night," you said politely, nodding to him. Almost like it was your way of saying 'Sorry, he's an asshole.'
Ghost nodded back at you still standing in the doorway as you shut it.
He stood near the door still listening.
"You just stand there holding the door open for weirdos??"
"He was nice."
"He was oggling you."
A scoff left you finding it almost humourous.
"He was not."
He was too.
That's fine, he decided.
He would have his trick and treat tonight.
Ghost stayed in the shadows outside of your home. Watching the children come in large waves. Listening and trying his hardest to catch a glimpse of you any time he could. The best way to describe it was an obsession. Another way to explain it was this the first time Ghost felt like Simon in years. All because of you and your lack of fear.
You should be afraid.
The trick or treaters gone for the night all done and settled in his bed. Ghost waited for a later hour, preparing his carnage. Watching for the man of the house, doing what he should be doing. Protecting and securing what was his. Finally the outside light was switched off, your husband preparing your home for slumber.
He pressed the doorbell for the third time tonight.
It was quiet for a moment, Ghost watching the curtains move slightly out of the corner of his eye. Stomping could be heard. Honestly, it made him want to laugh. A real cock feathering up to look big.
The door swung open with so much velocity so much aggression that Ghost couldn't help but bristle up fully.
"Listen here buddy-" your husband started but soon ended as a hand grabbed him by the neck and pulled him outside.
"Trick or Treat." Ghost spoke rhetorically before dragging him off into the woods.
Your husband had put up a stronger fight than he expected. It didn't matter, he was gone, drugged off and buried into a shallow grave. He was out of the way now.
Unfortunately, the sun was already coming up lighting up the hills and the disturbed dirt of where his most recent victim laid under.
He would have to wait 364 more days before he would see you again...
You however, spent those 364 days looking for your partner. Ghost was now once more hollow and empty, unseeable while you conducted searches and reached out to the police.
Sure your husband was a giant asshole... But he wouldn't of left you right? You were a good wife...
Once the rumor of him possibly running off with his secretary hit you like a brick wall, you stopped looking. Ghost had watched all light leave your eyes, they too hollow and empty now. His kind little girl hurt beyond words.
Not much longer... Not much longer and he could have you. His treat.
Like clockwork, the day rolled around again. As soon as it was dusk, the dark chasing the light away he went to find you. Your house wasn't decorated this year, too sad and broken to find the joy in your favorite holiday.
Being eager and excited, he still pushed that doorbell.
He didn't hear anything, pressing it again and knocking loudly.
The shuffling from you this time was quiet, but you were home though.
Cracking the door open slightly, he heard your voice before he saw you.
"I'm sorry I didn't make any treats this year, figured everyone would understand why." The door is now fully open allowing you to look up at him once more.. the same wide eyes from a year ago met his, the light returning to them.
"oh it's you.. I'm sorry i didn't make anything this year." You repeated.
Carefully he grabbed a hold of the door and pushed it open backing you into your home. A hand gently at your throat holding you in place. He meant no harm, but he would have what was his.
No matter... You were his treat. You were finally his after a year of watching.
Would you pay the price? Or end up being a trick after all that time?
I had a night with my husband that led to a conversation that I felt was relatable and now I can't stop myself from the little thoughts below.
