this is a reminder/request for the rpc to include southeast asian faceclaims when they can, especially darker-skinned and/or not half-white ones. it’s so disheartening to see a mw, especially a mw poc list, and absolutely no one thinks of listing southeast asians. it’s disheartening.
some beautiful, painfully underused faceclaims of southeast asian descent with resources are:

and so many more! it’s truly genuinely not that hard to integrate southeast asians into your rp. when asked for mw faceclaims, literally just toss in some se asian names in there. i promise you it’s not that difficult, whether you’re an admin or a member being asked. you will lose nothing if you encourage bringing in more southeast asians into the rp world.
on that note, though the above ethnicities are already so underrepresented, there are se asian countries that have very few, if at all, faceclaims with resources, such as laos and myanmar. let’s fix that. for those that exist, such as elodie yung, remember not to make her some sort of generic asian. she is not chinese or whatever, not all asians are. elodie yung is of cambodian descent.

Fun facts: Tolkien constructed this scene because he came out of Macbeth thinking that Shakespeare had missed a golden opportunity with the ”Be bloody, bold, and resolute; laugh to scorn the power of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth” prophecy
Being letdown by Macbeth is apparently a significant factor in Tolkien’s writing because the Ent/Huorn attack on Isengard was the result of his disappointment that the whole “til Birnam Wood come to Dunsinane” thing was just some dudes holding sticks and not actual ambulatory trees.

this halloween season, please remember that nosferatu (1922) is an allegory for the ‘invasion’ of jewish immigrants. count orlok is an antisemitic caricature, and his image in the movie is quite literally responsible for anti-jewish nazi propaganda. the movie itself is about jews perversing and defiling western culture, assaulting gentile women, etc. etc. please, please don’t ignore the potent antisemitism in the movie.
just to emphasize: nosferatu directly impacted nazi propaganda. the editor of an antisemitic nazi newspaper watched nosferatu and was so struck by the image of count orlok that he based his anti-jewish cartoons off of him. nosferatu is LITERALLY responsible for a good portion of anti-jewish caricatures.

“Let’s put pool noodles on the goat’s horns!” says a teenager.
“Why would you, ” I begin, but they have already stampeded out of the house. I shrug.
It turns out that when someone puts pool noodles on a goat’s horns, the goat doesn’t really care. They’re very light, after all, and she can’t see them. You know who cares? Who cares a LOT?
the HORSE. Hero took one look at Nutmeg wearing pool noodles and ran away. You know who doesn’t want to be left alone, ever? Nutmeg. Who went trotting after Hero because he was leaving her.
Hero, seeing that the eldritch abomination was after him, picked up speed. Nutmeg went into a full run. My kids started chasing Nutmeg to get the pool noodles off her, but could not catch her, because she’s surprisingly fast. The dogs were bringing up the rear, just happy to be going for a pleasant run. Hero was in a panic, leading a parade that he did not want.
This all resolved. One noodle feel off; the kids eventually cornered Nutmeg and removed the other one. Just - a day at a farm, I guess.
