The way they wrote sully off is stupid. They only did it because they wated to lean towards the will they in will they wont they for the end of the season, and the way they did it makes no sense. There was never any way brennen would agree to leave her work for a year, much less for a man she was dating for a month. Like, it's one thing for her friends to say she deserves the expierience, but they should know it wouldn't end well and brennen wouldnt want that.

The way sully treated it was also ridiculous. He should've known she'd say no and had a more realistic conversation about it. Especially since it wasn't portaryed as a "this is something i need to do," conversation. He coulve compromised with her, had her meet bim somewhere to sail for a month, or only commit to one month and see where they're at then.

Because why the fuck would a man she just started dating be important enough to pause her career for a year? She has sailing expierence but it's not a passion of hers. She'd spend most of her time without access to her hobbies at all.

And finally, he really thought a tiny boat for a year was a good choice? Even people who live on permanantly docked house boats will expierience relationship strain from the stress, a lot can go wrong with boats.

And again, brennen woyldnt like a year long vacation where she wasnt doing anything with a purpose. She likes her career. It makes no sense.

Another thing i like about bones is that you get to see listening to a partners special interest as a love language. Another thing i dislike about bones is you dont see it from booth and brennen because the writers refused to drop the "haha booth is dumber" bit.

The film student episode is always insane to me on every rewatch. Like they really said "let's psychologically attack brennen as bad as hard as possible."

I think it's sexist actually, now that i think about it.

Booth gets 3 long term partners before brennen. Cam, hannah, and tessa. They all get multiple episodes where their relationship is built up. Not counting cam since she's a main charcter, hannah gets decent build up but her characterization from what i remember is comarisons to brennen and a dislike of marriage that gives booth a relationship conflict because he's shown to have that as an end goal. He also has catherine but she only appears in one episode, and rebecca as a recurring character he was previously, and briefly during the show, involved with.

I thought sully was the only one for brennen, but i actually can't count him. Sully is only dating her in two episodes before they break up. Her other love interests consist of: her proffessor who definitly took advantage of her as a student (i've previously posted about the multiple levels of creepy it is) and uses her to try to cheat to win a case, the guy from the film student episode who appealed to her because he took resposiblilty for his younger brother who he ended up murdering, a cultist stalker, one guy who appears once as a casual hookup, and booths boss who i dont remember most likey because he was only in 3 episodes, with honorable mention of a guy she doesnt sleep with because she thinks it will upset booth and then gets murdered.

And, call me crazy, but i feel like it's a version of purity double standards. Booth gets to have intricate relationships while brennen's are brief and/or end badly. They couldnt do it with sex because brennen's character views sex as naturally and often transactual. So it slips into relationships.

A very nonconsequencial bones opinion: its messed up that they never gave bones a pet pig. She literally had a name picked out. There should of been a b plot after her and booth started living together where booth walks in and brennen's has a pig lying next to her as she's reading a book and booth is like, "what is that." "My pig." "Of course, jasper... you can't just bring a pig home without talking to me about it!"

I dont like cam's introduction, but it does make sense. The best way i can describe it is that she was thrown in from a different genre and the result is jarring. The things she says and does her first few episodes would fit in perfectly with a normal poluce show but is really out of sync with season 1 bones.

And then theres the fact that she's no used to bones and her issues with social cues and normal interactions. Like the scene where brennen is trying to connect with her as two career women and cam assumes she's trying to tell her she's pregnant (her stare down at booth during it is so funny).

I do think the writers try to push the tension in a way i dont like, but it does make sense with how they do it after episode 1. In episode 1 i think they dance around cam's position too much, and they dont address why brennen would even want the position. It could be more the fact that she was purposefully blind sided, but that isnt directly addressed either.

Also, it makes no sense for her to threaten to fire brennen. Like, even if she'd only been working with her in the lab for a few days and with the others for a month, she should have known that it would backfire. And then there's the fact that she wouldn't really be able to fire brennen, only suspend her from the forensics team. But even then, the fbi would most likely stop her because she was specifically requested by them.

New steter au that i'll never actually write just dropped (actually an old one but she really came together today). I'm gonna tell it like i would set up the fic.

So the first scene would be talia and the 3 canon hale kids dropping in unanounced to peter's house. Peter is an alpha, he's still working as the left hand, and exists more on the fringes of the pack. When they show up the see a young man in very small swim trunks lounging in peter's pool. Peter intercepts them before they can disturb him. Talia scolds peter for having such an innopropriate relationship, blah blah he's too young blah blah gold digger blah blah midlife crisis, peter tell's talia that if she kewps insulting his fiance he wont be able to allow her into his den anymore. This pissed her off even more, but laura deflects at just the right moment to get them to switch to business mode (she's gotten really good at it over the years). Meanwhile cora is making eyebrow heavy expressions at derek who is tdying very hard not to encourage her.

"Peter's fiance" becomes a fixture of peter's house. Talia does not approve of the relationship, nor does she think itll last. The rest of the hale's mostly see it as a typical peterism and an extension of his usual behavior. Big house, big pool, luxery car, fancy restraunts, contraversially young boytoy. Whether he'll last or not isnt really a question (he wont. Maybe he'll wring peter for as much money as possible before bailing because of his shit personality or maybe peter will get bored, either way.).

They get used to him lounging around the house, or rushing out disheveled, or peter growling at them until they leave because he's Really disheveled, or him and the hale kids ocasionally having casual banter (sometimes they're even only half insults).

Then derek gets kidnapped. It takes days to get a trace of him. They're having a war room esc meeting at the hale house when peter gets a call. Talia growls when she hears stiles on the phone. But this is the reveal moment. Stiles is driving back to beacon hills with derek in the car. "Good news, the witch is dead. Bad news, she screwed up my ash and the wolves with her aren't."

Wind it back to peter and stiles meeting. Stiles is a ~researcher for hire~. Sometimes that research is a little hands on. And sometimes that research involved killing (or relocating) magical creatures or the occasional rouge hunter. Him and peter cross paths and he catches and holds peters interest.

Peter gets a little stalkery. Stiles notives and matches his freak.

They start hooking up.

One day peter convinces stiles to come crash at his place after a hunt. He seduces him with the idea of the pool, and tells him he has swim trunks he can borrow. (He in fact bought them for when he'd eventually get stiles to visit.) Stiles isn't happy about the size of them, but doesnt care when he actually gets in the pool.

He immidiently clocks peter's pack entering the property. He tells peter when they leave that he's not easy, and if he's gonna be engaged to him he expects a fat rock.

He gets the rock. It's a very hard to come by and even more expensive to buy magic rock set into a ring that lives perfectly up to peter's standards. Thus, stiles life as a sugar baby begins.

Stiles is 24 to 25. Peter is 40ish. Stiles makes a lot of controversially young boyfriend jokes. And cradle robber jokes. And does not help buffer his protective friends.

Stiles has no shame in living it up. He doesn't really put on a show for the hales beyond peter getting him to wear skimpy or very expensive or a combination of both outfits when he knows his family is coming over.

The car ride with derek after the wolfsbane wore off and they'd shaken the wolves that were after them was very awkward. There was a pretty big contrast between the stiles who verbally sniped at them from a pool chaise and whined at them for being cockblocks while climbing off his uncles lap and the stiles who sat calmly behind the wheel after killing a woman and then speeding to evade a pack of wolves out for his blood. The ripped jeans, cheap flannel, and dark circles made the difference even more stark, and somehow made the reality that he was 3 years younger than derek clearer. Derek didn't think much about "peter's sugarbaby," but seeing this realer version of stiles made it feel wrong.

Derek gets dropped off by stiles. It does not actually win him points with talia. She's mad at peter for involving non pack, which pisses peter off enough to leave with only a quick swipe of his hand down derek's shoulder.

Then, there's a day where Peter is at the hale house for a big pack event. He gets a phone call, when he comes back from taking it in private he is quickly gathering his things to leave. Talia tells him he can't leave, but peter says he has to. Someone tells her that she can't tell him he can't leave when his mate is having an emergency and she blue screens.

Stiles's dad got injured, and stiles is freaking out. It's nothing that won't heal but there was a stretch of time where they didn't know that. Stiles blames himself and doesn't take it well. He's not completely out of his funk when peter has to leave to look into something for the pack.

After 3 days of moping and visiting his dad the hale kids show up at the door to physically force him into a car to drive 5 hours for "the best burgers you'll ever have." They had peter call his dad to have him call stiles and say that taking a day off from fretting was necessary.

They make derek drive so laura can better keep conversation flowing. There is one moment where laura takes the wheel from the passenger seat while derek twists fully around to threaten stiles and cora. By the time they reach the burger place stiles has relaxed and they're all properly joking around. Laura is able to drive on the way home. They ask questions about him and peter and stiles answers honestly. He tells their engagement story (shows them the fat rock and rambles for 20 minutes about applications), and confirms that they are actually engaged and have talked about wedding plans (they're looking at castles in poland.).

By the time they get back it's late and peter has returned. He invites his nieces and nephew in to stay the night. They marvel at seeing the real version of their relationship.

And that's all i have. I planned this out during a lecture on annihilation equations.

watching bones again in 2025 is like. oh wonderful characters. horrible fatphobia. racism. badass autistic people making up most of the show's characters. the fact that they're all autistic is never acknowledged. copaganda and ridiculous nationalism. nuanced discussions about religion and atheism and science and love and compartmentalizing. stereotyping of so many groups of people up the wazoo. cool science. the system is rigged against us. the system is honest and true and fair. sex positivity. kink negativity. yearning. bugs are cool. everyone is traumatized. she works with bones and her nickname is bones, and booth is in love with her.

Bloodbound AU:

The vampire isn't like others of his kind. He's strangely gentle, has the self-esteem of a squashed bug, and took care of her injury without succumbing to the temptation of her blood. But in spite of all his virtues, the Prince is still a vampire, and he still needs to feast.

Luckily for Zuko, Katara knows of a criminal or two whose blood begs to be bent (and consumed).

Republic AU:

Katara Tinik doesn't give up without a fight. Which is about as admirable as it is annoying, given that her latest endeavor is to ensure Zuko has no dignity left to uphold. As the Fire Nation Ambassador in Republic City, dignity is quite important, thank you very much.

Unfortunately, her team is in need of a firebender, and winning the pro-bending championship is more important to Katara than Zuko's low self-respect.

I saw the lego movie in theater today bc the tickets were 3 dollars, and i've come to the realization that i've never seen the sequel.

Finally got around to watching supergirl, my notes:

Sex traficking of teenager girls is a large element. I was going to say that it didn't really affect the plot and could be easily removed with minimal additioms, but there is a strong emotional moment that couldn't really have a different set up, so it actually couldn't be. I don't think the traficking plotline was a negitive, although i do think that making the antagonist's race all male was a choice that i don't trust the doylist reasons for, it's neutral to me.

The movie never shows sexual violence, which is a huge positive for a movie that has this kind of plotline. When the super girl and ruthye (secondary protag) are threatened it's with death, there's no reference to assault. There is never any depiction or outright threat of sexual violence, although the movie also doesn't shy away from the fact that that's what is going to happen. It is stated that girls are kidnapped to have children for the antagonists because their race is all male. (Which could be a doylist answer for the all male race: their goal isnt brutal assault followed by murder or a slow death like equivilant groups from other media. It lets them tone down the threat at face value so they can make it a bit less upsetting for the audience.) There is a scene where the kidnapped girls (trying to escape as a large group before eventually all getting to safety with the help of kara) are dragged back to the briggan ship. And the scene is violent, but there's no excesive violence to the girls. There is a moment where a girl is being carried over a briggan's shoulder who the obligatory male character is trying to get the bounty of and it reads like it's supposed to be a bit and it was not funny to me.

To address the obligatory male character: by obigatory male character i mean a man who is part of the climax and appears throughtout the main fightscenes on the same side as the protags or at least opposite the antags. There's almost always one if there isnt a romantic interest or present male mentor figure. He was fine. I like his trope personally, and he isnt present enough to wear out his welcome. He only assists directly once, the rest of the time he's only fighting with kara because there's a head he needs to get. The direct assist happens after ruthye frees him, and he proceeds to throw the main antagonist of the ship after her because he thinks she should get her revenge if she wants it. You see him wait to leave until main antag is dead.

The main antag is killed, just not by ruthye after she makes the decision to take kara's advice and turn around. It also is done with her family sword.

I like that we get a happy medium between the usual options of these characters never see eachother again and mc adopts child tagalong. Kara takes ruthye traveling for a few days to celebrate her birthday in a nondestructive way before dropping her back with her aunt.

The fight choreography was solid, but also pretty basic superhero stuff. They don't do a good job with scaling hits, especially auditory cues, though that could be a theater issue. The hits durring the final battle feel like the have about the same weight as the ones earlier in the movie.

It does not escape the vibes of superhero movie directed by a man.

The cinematogrophy is really good.

I loved this version of kara.

Overall, i liked it, i'd watch it again, maybe a 7/10.

Look I don't think Supergirl (2026) is secretly a perfect masterpiece or anything (I personally thought it was like. a 6/10 fun time) but I do think it's wild that Tumblr isn't going crazy for it because this Kara is one coattailed suit away from being a Tumblr sexyman. she is the flawed messy female character people have supposedly been clamouring for. she's the popular archetype of a gruff self-destructive alcoholic middle-aged man begrudgingly having to look after a kid and growing fond of them but genderswapped and also 23. she's allowed to be visibly messy and kind of gross and her hair is constantly all over the place and she literally cries, screams, throws up, and pisses onscreen. she's caustic and mean and puts up an act of carelessness but has a heart of gold. she's heavily traumatised and coping with it terribly. if anything happens to her dog she will kill everyone in this room and then herself. she spends most of the movie in a trench coat and baggy band T-shirt. she gets into bar brawls and breaks a guy's hand. she is Going Through It 24/7 and looks the part. she stabs a guy in the throat. how is everyone else not obsessed with her.

So often these depictions swing too wide in the opposite direction. She didn't need redemption because she was never a bad person, she just needed to sober up and calibrate.
