Thread 3: Business As Usual

Over in Roseclan, on that same morning, business was going on as usual. Seastar was catching up with mentors and her deputy. The leader sat up tall. "And how's Cloudypaw coming along?" Her gaze traveled to a young, sandy-colored tom.

"She's doing great, Seastar! She'll have fighting down in no time! Then we can get to hunting!" His tail lashed in the air excitedly.

"Good. Make sure she's ready if a fight breaks out. We don't know what Daisyclan's planning over there." Her gaze traveled away for a moment, then she nodded dismissively. "Go on, then."

The cats scattered. Falleneyes had been watching intently. "Impressive how a cat that young can be a mentor," she muttered to herself. Her gaze traveled down to her kit. "Won't be long before you're out there too, Brightkit. Only 2 moons until you get your mentor!" She licked the small kit's head.

“ Wowza! “ Brightkit exclaimed, she would scurry out into the hollow. “ I’ll try to be the best warrior ever! Or a medicine cat even! “

Brightkit tapped her paws on the ground in excitement, she was SO exited to get to be an apprentice. She could be giving fresh bedding to the elders for all she cared!

Falleneyes nodded. "That's good." She scanned the cats in the clearing. "Maybe some cat like Tinyacorn could mentor you. Seastar's son ought to have good skills." The small tom was happily talking with Cinderstrike and Cloudypaw. It's just odd how he's so small, especially with his big mother.

She then noticed another cat. "Or maybe Poppywish. Nothing better than being trained by your family." Her mate had just returned from the dawn patrol with a big hare in his jaws. He seemed focused.

He'd padded up to Inksplatter. "Maybe Seastar could even give you the deputy as your mentor!"

Inksplatter sat down quietly grooming himself until Poppywish came up to him, he stopped suddenly and whipped his long neck around and spoke

“Eh? Oh! Y’know I’d love nothin’ more than to finally get an apprentice!” He sat up stretched his long thin body and walked over to Brightkit, “Especially this little fella’! Adorable she is” he took his right paw and patted the little kit’s head hesitently.

“YIPPEE!” Brightkit exclaimed.

“ I’ll be a great warrior! I’ll get to go to gatherings and make friends with other apprentices! oooh maybe I’ll even get to go to the Moonpool!

The whimsical kit would start tapping her paw on the sand again?

Falleneyes nodded. "We'll just have to see." She looked up at Inksplatter. "I'm surprised Seastar hasn't given you more apprentices."

As the deputy was about to speak after her comment he paused, kind of realizing.. oh my.. I really haven’t

He chuckled nervously, “ehe.. I’m pretty sure I’ve just been too caught up with deputy things! Seastar expects er.. uhm a lotta things outta me.” maybe even too much he thought.

The queen simply nodded. "Yes, that can be a lot, I suppose." She looked over at a small blue warrior. "You think Tinyacorn's busy too? Being Seastar's son and all."

Brightkit started to trail off, mumbling to herself.

"She doesn't, but she's also very busy." Falleneyes yawned. She watched Inksplatter and Poppywish speak from afar.

Thread 2: Mentors

Spottedblaze could hardly sleep. Her tail twitched, her mind wrapped up in thought. Birchwatcher couldn't murder a cat! She was the medicine cat for so long; she could never be so cruel like that now!

She shook herself and padded out of her den. Her gaze wandered up to the sky. The stars shone, and it seemed the clusters of silverpelt were growing by the moons. It wore her heart heavy. But newleaf typically brings new kits with it, she reminded herself hopefully. Maybe things can get better.

As the night’s cold lingers, Cherryleaf stays sleeping in her nest in the warriors den, but she was awakened by even a small noise from outside. Cherryleaf slowly opens her eyes and shifts in her bedding, she turns her head to look outside, beyond the ferns keeping the inside of the den warm.

She only stood up and shook her pelt a bit. When she was fully awake she looked out more and popped her head out to see whose there, ‘Oh! The medicine cat!’ She thought, trying to not get caught.

Spottedblaze stayed silent, lost in her thoughts. Her ear twitched as a rustle came from the nursery. She turned her head.

Perchkit was sneaking towards her. "Hi, Spottedblaze!" Perchkit whispered quite loudly. She stifled a laugh. "Hi, Perchkit."

"What are you doing out here?" The ginger she-cat tilted her head dramatically. "I could ask you the same."

"Yeah, me too..." Spottedblaze looked behind Perchkit to see Starlingkit following her. "Hailfall will be angry if she sees you out..."

"Hailfall worries too much!" Perchkit complained. "We're being apprenticed in the morning, she can't baby us forever!" Starlingkit crouched low to the ground. "I guess you're right..."

Perchkit turned to Spottedblaze. "We're 6 moons old now! Tawnystar said she'd make us apprentices in the morning, but I can't wait that long!"

Spottedblaze smiled. "Well it won't be too long now. The moon will start to fall any minute now." Her gaze traveled to the sky, then back to Perchkit. "Are you excited to be a warrior?"

The ginger kit hummed. "Well... I wanna be like you!" The black she-cat tilted her head. "I want to be a medicine cat," Perchkit clarified.

Spottedblaze perked up. "Oh?"

"Yeah! I was going to ask you about it, but you ran off to the gathering before I could." She looked up at Spottedblaze with round eyes. "Pleaaaaase?"

"Well..."

Cherryleaf looked around where Spottedblaze sat. Her eyes grew wide as two smaller figures came out of the nursery to meet the medicine cat.

‘Those must be the kits!’ Cherryleaf thought.

‘I gotta go meet them!’

The white freckled she-cat came quietly padding out the den and over to where Spottedblaze and the kits are sitting, and greeted them with a warm, tired smile “Hello you little rascals! What are you doing out so early in the morning?” She whispered loudly

Spottedblaze kept to herself when Cherryleaf approached. She was much friendlier with kits than older cats anymore.

"I couldn't sleep!" Perchkit smiled up at Cherryleaf. "Neither could Starlingkit."

"I stayed in the nest... until she ran off." Starlingkit stared at her sister quietly.

“Oh well that makes sense, I couldn’t really sleep myself!” She chuckled a little bit.

“So, are you two ready to become warriors at dawn?” The warrior smiled and sat down next to the three cats.

"I want to be a medicine cat," Perchkit reiterated, seeming a little more frustrated now. She looked up at Spottedblaze. She looked back down at her. "I'll talk with Tawnystar about it once she's awake."

Perchkit lit up, her tail swaying in the air. "Really?? Yay!!"

"Shhh!" Starlingkit pinned her ears back, hushing Perchkit irritably.

“A medicine cat? That’s amazing to hear! If my hunting skills weren’t so good, I’d honestly be one myself” Cherryleaf laughed and looked over at Spottedblaze and smiled, “you’ll have your own apprentice, isn’t that amazing?”

She made sure to give a warm look to the kits and her, “I hope Tawnystar allows it, especially with all the recent battles going on.”

Spottedblaze nodded. "She might..." Her glance climbed back up to the sky. The sun was rising now, and Tawnystar would be awake any minute now.

Tawnystar crept out of her den and trotted over to the fresh-kill pile. She would take a vole from the pile before going to the water and getting a drink.

Spottedblaze hesitated, but followed Tawnystar quietly. Eventually, she spoke. "Good morning, Tawnystar." Her tail swayed. "You're, uh, apprenticing Perchkit and Starlingkit today, right?"

Tawnystar would look over to spottedblaze.

“ Good morning Spottedblaze, and yes I do intend on apprenticing perchkit and starlingkit today, why do you ask?” She said her tail high.

Spottedblaze flicked her ear. "Well, Perchkit was talking to me this morning and she says she wants to be a medicine cat..! So I said I'd, uh, talk to you about it, yknow? So..."

“ Well, we could make her your apprentice perhaps..! After all we may need another medicine cat if the battles keep happening….So I’ll think about it! Thanks for telling me, I was already thinking of giving Starlingkit to Cherryleaf.” Tawnystar said.

The black she-cat hummed curiously. She nodded. "Okay then. She'll be happy to hear that." Spottedblaze quickly turned to leave for the camp again.

Cherryleaf looked at Spottedblaze talking to Tawnystar, and smiled at her leader.

She looked back at the kits and gathered a small moss ball for the kits to play with. ‘They’re both so adorable..I can’t wait for Starlingkit to be a warrior.’

Tawnystar leapt onto the tree stump in the middle of the camp.

“Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Tree stump!”

Cats would gather around Tawnystar exited about the new apprentices.

Spottedblaze sat down out of the way while the clan gathered.

"My little princesses better get good mentors! Especially Starlingkit!" Hailfall was protectively wraped around her kits, at least to the best of her ability. Her tail tip lashed side to side. Perchkit seemed fed up with her mother, while Starlingkit just hid from every cat.

Aside from the annoyance at Hailfall, Perchkit was excitedly bouncing, staring up at Tawnystar with big eyes.

Cherryleaf turned around, puffed out her chest and sighed then followed the rest of the cats to the stump where they all gathered.

As she sat near the back of the group of cats, as she herself is surprisingly shy, the warrior took a small glance at Hailfall with annoyance.

Cherryleaf made sure to sit properly and looked right up at Tawnystar, waiting.

Tawnystar looked down at Starlingkit and Perchkit fondly. She would call beckon both of them to come forward.

“ Starlingkit and Perchkit, You both have reached the age of six moons. Until you receive your warrior name you will both be referred to as Starlingpaw and Perchpaw. Perchpaws mentor will be Spottedblaze and Starlingpaws mentor will be Cherryleaf, I hope they pass down their skills to both of you.”

She would call fourth Cherryleaf and Spottedblaze “ You are both ready to take on new apprentices. You have received excellent training from your former mentors, you have both shown great skill and I hope you both pass down your skills.”

Spottedblaze nodded. Perchpaw bounced excitedly towards her and pressed noses with her eagerly.

Starlingpaw slinked away to meet with Cherryleaf, Hailfall following her close behind. Her green glare was set on Cherryleaf disapprovingly.

Cherryleaf smiled “I won’t let you down Tawnystar!” she spoke loudly, not caring if some of the attention was on her.

She looked for Starlingpaw and saw her bounding toward her, and met her half way. “Aren’t you excited! I’ll make sure your training will be fun!” Cherryleaf smiled and laughed, ignoring Hailfall’s peircing stare.

Starlingpaw nodded slightly, shyly looking up at Cherryleaf. "I guess I am."

“Come on now, don’t be shy, I promise I won’t bite.” She spoke softly to her apprentice and looked over at Spottedblaze and Perchpaw “What if we joined your sister and Spottedblaze? Would that make you feel better?”

Starlingpaw nodded silently. Hailfall was muttering to herself. "She's quite young to be a mentor... she better not screw this up."

Cherryleaf, not paying attention to anyone else besides her new, and first apprentice, walked over to where Spottedblaze and Perchpaw are.

“I know you’re mentoring a future medicine cat but, mind if our apprentices can uhh.. hang out for a bit?” Cherryleaf toned down her voice and whispered “Starlingpaw is a bit nervous”

"Oh," Spottedblaze perked up quietly. "Uh, sure." She looked down at her apprentice. "Go talk to your sister before we plan training."

Perchpaw eagerly nodded, bounding over to Starlingpaw. The two spoke with one another happily. Starlingpaw's tail stopped swaying anxiously. Hailfall was watching the four cats from the side, her green glare set intently.

Cherryleaf watched the apprentices talk to eachother and saw Starlingpaw calmed down. She smiled at them and tried to ignore Hailfall, turning back to Spottedblaze.

“Finally we have apprentices now! I’m so so excited to teach Starlingpaw soo many cool moves I was taught!” She sighed happily “Oh the days of being an apprentice..feels like ages ago! Hehe” Cherryleaf tried to lighten up the mood with a simple joke.

Spottedblaze nodded. Her gaze flicked to Hailfall, then down at her paws. "Yeah..." She stared at Cherryleaf for a moment. The warrior wasn't all that old, only 13 moons. Wasn't she a little young to be saying that? She bit back the comment; Spottedblaze herself was quite young too.

Even after the queen stalked back to the nursery, she could still feel Hailfall's sharp green gaze fixed on her. She stared back at the two apprentices. Perchpaw was bouncing on her toes eagerly while Starlingpaw smiled up at her quietly.

Cherryleaf realized Spottedblaze may not want to speak much, so she chuckled nervously after Spottedblaze’s response

“Hehe.. oh, well, what are you gonna be teaching Perchpaw? I heard there’s lots of rules when it comes to being a medicine cat.” She looked all around camp and blinked a few times “I mean you gotta take care of all these cats! Must be a handful..” the freckled she-cat plopped herself down to the dirt, avoiding any glance or stare from Hailfall.

Spottedblaze flicked her ear. "Well, there is a lot to learn. First, she has to learn the territory and the basic herbs, where they grow and how to obtain them. Then she needs to learn their uses: which are good, which are bad, which herbs treat what, all that."

She seemed to loosen up when talking about medicine cat duties. Her tail flicked excitedly. "Then she needs to learn about Starclan, the medicine cat code, how to interpret signs, and just learn about our ancestors in general."

Her yellow eyes rose to the sky. "When she's learned all that, she can be taken to the Starlit Oak on the night of the half moon, and Starclan will grant her the medicine cat position and her medicine cat name. They'll recognize her as a full medicine cat then, and she'll be one of the most important cats on the island." She couldn't help but smile eagerly. "It's just how Ottersway described it to me." Her smile faded, her gaze traveling back down to the ground slowly.

Cherryleaf smiled listening to the medicine cat go off about everything she’ll teach her apprentice. The white she-cat nodded her head, “You are definitely right.. that is A LOT!! Especially with all the rules about Starclan and herbs, this is why I couldn’t be a medicine cat heh!” She chuckled “Too much information..I do love it all though.”

She turned her head over to the apprentices, “I’ll be proud of them both, Spottedblaze.” Then she turned over to the medicine cat “You will do an excellent job being a mentor. I know she’ll be just as wise as you are with all of this!” Cherryleaf smiled at her and looked up at the sky, wondering about what the future holds.

Spottedblaze flicked her tail, almost dismissive of the praise. "I'm not old enough to be wise, Cherryleaf. Especially not as wise as Ottersway was."

Her gaze wandered back to the apprentices. She raised her head as she noticed Mothflame with the two. "At least their aunt is supportive... hey, wasn't Mothflame your mentor?" She looked back over at Cherryleaf.

“Nonsense, you can be wise at any age I believe!” Cherryleaf said almost jokingly.

She raised her paw to groom herself but stopped suddenly when Spottedblaze spoke to her again- “Hm? Oh! Yes Mothflame was my mentor! And the best mentor I could ever ask for. She’s so strong I could sometimes barely keep up with her training!”

Before she could reply, the ginger she-cat was bounding right up to Cherryleaf. Spottedblaze only hummed in response.

"Ayy, there's mah girl!! Gettin' 'er first appren'ice already! Arent'cha excited?! OH, y' gunna do GREAT, I jus' know it!" Mothflame had a silly accent, Starclan knows where she got it from, and was often full of life. Her tail almost wagged in the air like a dog with excitement. "Oh, whaddaya gonna do first?! Huntin? Fightin? Swimmin?!" She almost seemed more excited than Starlingpaw herself.

Cherryleaf turned her head in surprised as Mothflame ran up to her quickly, her expression turning very happy

“Mothflame!! Ahaha I’m way too excited! I’m gonna show her EVERYTHING you taught me! Spreading the wisdom y’know haha!” Cherryleaf laughed a bit too loud at that, she was so happy to share everything to her mentor who she has always looked up to. She stood up and started bouncing a bit on her paws, unable to contain her excitement, “OOH OOH I’M GONNA DO HUNTING FIRST!! You know that’s my favorite thing to do, then we’ll move onto swimming and fighting last! For the excitement of it!”

"Ohh, you'll do great, I just know it!" Mothflame bounced slightly as well. "You and Starlingpaw should eat before you go out, if you're gonna start today. No sense in wandering the territory on an empty stomach!"

“Oh you’re right! I could use some food myself too.. I bet Starlingpaw is hungry too..” her gaze wondered to her apprentice and then back to Mothflame “I’m pretty sure we’ll start doing everything next dawn or this dusk, who knows! Thread 2: Mentors

Spottedblaze could hardly sleep. Her tail twitched, her mind wrapped up in thought. Birchwatcher couldn't murder a cat! She was the medicine cat for so long; she could never be so cruel like that now!

She shook herself and padded out of her den. Her gaze wandered up to the sky. The stars shone, and it seemed the clusters of silverpelt were growing by the moons. It wore her heart heavy. But newleaf typically brings new kits with it, she reminded herself hopefully. Maybe things can get better.

As the night’s cold lingers, Cherryleaf stays sleeping in her nest in the warriors den, but she was awakened by even a small noise from outside. Cherryleaf slowly opens her eyes and shifts in her bedding, she turns her head to look outside, beyond the ferns keeping the inside of the den warm.

She only stood up and shook her pelt a bit. When she was fully awake she looked out more and popped her head out to see whose there, ‘Oh! The medicine cat!’ She thought, trying to not get caught.

Spottedblaze stayed silent, lost in her thoughts. Her ear twitched as a rustle came from the nursery. She turned her head.

Perchkit was sneaking towards her. "Hi, Spottedblaze!" Perchkit whispered quite loudly. She stifled a laugh. "Hi, Perchkit."

"What are you doing out here?" The ginger she-cat tilted her head dramatically. "I could ask you the same."

"Yeah, me too..." Spottedblaze looked behind Perchkit to see Starlingkit following her. "Hailfall will be angry if she sees you out..."

"Hailfall worries too much!" Perchkit complained. "We're being apprenticed in the morning, she can't baby us forever!" Starlingkit crouched low to the ground. "I guess you're right..."

Perchkit turned to Spottedblaze. "We're 6 moons old now! Tawnystar said she'd make us apprentices in the morning, but I can't wait that long!"

Spottedblaze smiled. "Well it won't be too long now. The moon will start to fall any minute now." Her gaze traveled to the sky, then back to Perchkit. "Are you excited to be a warrior?"

The ginger kit hummed. "Well... I wanna be like you!" The black she-cat tilted her head. "I want to be a medicine cat," Perchkit clarified.

Spottedblaze perked up. "Oh?"

"Yeah! I was going to ask you about it, but you ran off to the gathering before I could." She looked up at Spottedblaze with round eyes. "Pleaaaaase?"

Cherryleaf looked around where Spottedblaze sat. Her eyes grew wide as two smaller figures came out of the nursery to meet the medicine cat.

‘Those must be the kits!’ Cherryleaf thought.

‘I gotta go meet them!’

The white freckled she-cat came quietly padding out the den and over to where Spottedblaze and the kits are sitting, and greeted them with a warm, tired smile “Hello you little rascals! What are you doing out so early in the morning?” She whispered loudly

Spottedblaze kept to herself when Cherryleaf approached. She was much friendlier with kits than older cats anymore.

"I couldn't sleep!" Perchkit smiled up at Cherryleaf. "Neither could Starlingkit."

"I stayed in the nest... until she ran off." Starlingkit stared at her sister quietly.

“Oh well that makes sense, I couldn’t really sleep myself!” She chuckled a little bit.

“So, are you two ready to become warriors at dawn?” The warrior smiled and sat down next to the three cats.

"I want to be a medicine cat," Perchkit reiterated, seeming a little more frustrated now. She looked up at Spottedblaze. She looked back down at her. "I'll talk with Tawnystar about it once she's awake."

Perchkit lit up, her tail swaying in the air. "Really?? Yay!!"

"Shhh!" Starlingkit pinned her ears back, hushing Perchkit irritably.

“A medicine cat? That’s amazing to hear! If my hunting skills weren’t so good, I’d honestly be one myself” Cherryleaf laughed and looked over at Spottedblaze and smiled, “you’ll have your own apprentice, isn’t that amazing?”

She made sure to give a warm look to the kits and her, “I hope Tawnystar allows it, especially with all the recent battles going on.”

Spottedblaze nodded. "She might..." Her glance climbed back up to the sky. The sun was rising now, and Tawnystar would be awake any minute now.

Tawnystar crept out of her den and trotted over to the fresh-kill pile. She would take a vole from the pile before going to the water and getting a drink.

Spottedblaze hesitated, but followed Tawnystar quietly. Eventually, she spoke. "Good morning, Tawnystar." Her tail swayed. "You're, uh, apprenticing Perchkit and Starlingkit today, right?"

“ Good morning Spottedblaze, and yes I do intend on apprenticing perchkit and starlingkit today, why do you ask?” She said her tail high.

Spottedblaze flicked her ear. "Well, Perchkit was talking to me this morning and she says she wants to be a medicine cat..! So I said I'd, uh, talk to you about it, yknow? So..."

“ Well, we could make her your apprentice perhaps..! After all we may need another medicine cat if the battles keep happening….So I’ll think about it! Thanks for telling me, I was already thinking of giving Starlingkit to Cherryleaf.” Tawnystar said.

The black she-cat hummed curiously. She nodded. "Okay then. She'll be happy to hear that." Spottedblaze quickly turned to leave for the camp again.

She looked back at the kits and gathered a small moss ball for the kits to play with. ‘They’re both so adorable..I can’t wait for Starlingkit to be a warrior.’

Tawnystar leapt onto the tree stump in the middle of the camp.

“Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Tree stump!”

Cats would gather around Tawnystar exited about the new apprentices.

Spottedblaze sat down out of the way while the clan gathered.

"My little princesses better get good mentors! Especially Starlingkit!" Hailfall was protectively wraped around her kits, at least to the best of her ability. Her tail tip lashed side to side. Perchkit seemed fed up with her mother, while Starlingkit just hid from every cat.

Aside from the annoyance at Hailfall, Perchkit was excitedly bouncing, staring up at Tawnystar with big eyes.

Cherryleaf turned around, puffed out her chest and sighed then followed the rest of the cats to the stump where they all gathered.

As she sat near the back of the group of cats, as she herself is surprisingly shy, the warrior took a small glance at Hailfall with annoyance.

Cherryleaf made sure to sit properly and looked right up at Tawnystar, waiting.

Tawnystar looked down at Starlingkit and Perchkit fondly. She would call beckon both of them to come forward.

“ Starlingkit and Perchkit, You both have reached the age of six moons. Until you receive your warrior name you will both be referred to as Starlingpaw and Perchpaw. Perchpaws mentor will be Spottedblaze and Starlingpaws mentor will be Cherryleaf, I hope they pass down their skills to both of you.”

She would call fourth Cherryleaf and Spottedblaze “ You are both ready to take on new apprentices. You have received excellent training from your former mentors, you have both shown great skill and I hope you both pass down your skills.”

She looked for Starlingpaw and saw her bounding toward her, and met her half way. “Aren’t you excited! I’ll make sure your training will be fun!” Cherryleaf smiled and laughed, ignoring Hailfall’s peircing stare.

Starlingpaw nodded slightly, shyly looking up at Cherryleaf. "I guess I am."

Cherryleaf, not paying attention to anyone else besides her new, and first apprentice, walked over to where Spottedblaze and Perchpaw are.

“I know you’re mentoring a future medicine cat but, mind if our apprentices can uhh.. hang out for a bit?” Cherryleaf toned down her voice and whispered “Starlingpaw is a bit nervous”

"Oh," Spottedblaze perked up quietly. "Uh, sure." She looked down at her apprentice. "Go talk to your sister before we plan training."

Perchpaw eagerly nodded, bounding over to Starlingpaw. The two spoke with one another happily. Starlingpaw's tail stopped swaying anxiously. Hailfall was watching the four cats from the side, her green glare set intently.

Cherryleaf watched the apprentices talk to eachother and saw Starlingpaw calmed down. She smiled at them and tried to ignore Hailfall, turning back to Spottedblaze.

“Finally we have apprentices now! I’m so so excited to teach Starlingpaw soo many cool moves I was taught!” She sighed happily “Oh the days of being an apprentice..feels like ages ago! Hehe” Cherryleaf tried to lighten up the mood with a simple joke.

Spottedblaze nodded. Her gaze flicked to Hailfall, then down at her paws. "Yeah..." She stared at Cherryleaf for a moment. The warrior wasn't all that old, only 13 moons. Wasn't she a little young to be saying that? She bit back the comment; Spottedblaze herself was quite young too.

Even after the queen stalked back to the nursery, she could still feel Hailfall's sharp green gaze fixed on her. She stared back at the two apprentices. Perchpaw was bouncing on her toes eagerly while Starlingpaw smiled up at her quietly.

Cherryleaf realized Spottedblaze may not want to speak much, so she chuckled nervously after Spottedblaze’s response

“Hehe.. oh, well, what are you gonna be teaching Perchpaw? I heard there’s lots of rules when it comes to being a medicine cat.” She looked all around camp and blinked a few times “I mean you gotta take care of all these cats! Must be a handful..” the freckled she-cat plopped herself down to the dirt, avoiding any glance or stare from Hailfall.

Spottedblaze flicked her ear. "Well, there is a lot to learn. First, she has to learn the territory and the basic herbs, where they grow and how to obtain them. Then she needs to learn their uses: which are good, which are bad, which herbs treat what, all that."

She seemed to loosen up when talking about medicine cat duties. Her tail flicked excitedly. "Then she needs to learn about Starclan, the medicine cat code, how to interpret signs, and just learn about our ancestors in general."

Her yellow eyes rose to the sky. "When she's learned all that, she can be taken to the Starlit Oak on the night of the half moon, and Starclan will grant her the medicine cat position and her medicine cat name. They'll recognize her as a full medicine cat then, and she'll be one of the most important cats on the island." She couldn't help but smile eagerly. "It's just how Ottersway described it to me." Her smile faded, her gaze traveling back down to the ground slowly.

Cherryleaf smiled listening to the medicine cat go off about everything she’ll teach her apprentice. The white she-cat nodded her head, “You are definitely right.. that is A LOT!! Especially with all the rules about Starclan and herbs, this is why I couldn’t be a medicine cat heh!” She chuckled “Too much information..I do love it all though.”

She turned her head over to the apprentices, “I’ll be proud of them both, Spottedblaze.” Then she turned over to the medicine cat “You will do an excellent job being a mentor. I know she’ll be just as wise as you are with all of this!” Cherryleaf smiled at her and looked up at the sky, wondering about what the future holds.

Her gaze wandered back to the apprentices. She raised her head as she noticed Mothflame with the two. "At least their aunt is supportive... hey, wasn't Mothflame your mentor?" She looked back over at Cherryleaf.

“Nonsense, you can be wise at any age I believe!” Cherryleaf said almost jokingly.

She raised her paw to groom herself but stopped suddenly when Spottedblaze spoke to her again- “Hm? Oh! Yes Mothflame was my mentor! And the best mentor I could ever ask for. She’s so strong I could sometimes barely keep up with her training!”

Before she could reply, the ginger she-cat was bounding right up to Cherryleaf. Spottedblaze only hummed in response.

"Ayy, there's mah girl!! Gettin' 'er first appren'ice already! Arent'cha excited?! OH, y' gunna do GREAT, I jus' know it!" Mothflame had a silly accent, Starclan knows where she got it from, and was often full of life. Her tail almost wagged in the air like a dog with excitement. "Oh, whaddaya gonna do first?! Huntin? Fightin? Swimmin?!" She almost seemed more excited than Starlingpaw herself.

“Mothflame!! Ahaha I’m way too excited! I’m gonna show her EVERYTHING you taught me! Spreading the wisdom y’know haha!” Cherryleaf laughed a bit too loud at that, she was so happy to share everything to her mentor who she has always looked up to. She stood up and started bouncing a bit on her paws, unable to contain her excitement, “OOH OOH I’M GONNA DO HUNTING FIRST!! You know that’s my favorite thing to do, then we’ll move onto swimming and fighting last! For the excitement of it!”

Spottedblaze flicked her ear. "Well, there is a lot to learn. First, she has to learn the territory and the basic herbs, where they grow and how to obtain them. Then she needs to learn their uses: which are good, which are bad, which herbs treat what, all that."

She seemed to loosen up when talking about medicine cat duties. Her tail flicked excitedly. "Then she needs to learn about Starclan, the medicine cat code, how to interpret signs, and just learn about our ancestors in general."

Her yellow eyes rose to the sky. "When she's learned all that, she can be taken to the Starlit Oak on the night of the half moon, and Starclan will grant her the medicine cat position and her medicine cat name. They'll recognize her as a full medicine cat then, and she'll be one of the most important cats on the island." She couldn't help but smile eagerly. "It's just how Ottersway described it to me." Her smile faded, her gaze traveling back down to the ground slowly.

Cherryleaf smiled listening to the medicine cat go off about everything she’ll teach her apprentice. The white she-cat nodded her head, “You are definitely right.. that is A LOT!! Especially with all the rules about Starclan and herbs, this is why I couldn’t be a medicine cat heh!” She chuckled “Too much information..I do love it all though.”

She turned her head over to the apprentices, “I’ll be proud of them both, Spottedblaze.” Then she turned over to the medicine cat “You will do an excellent job being a mentor. I know she’ll be just as wise as you are with all of this!” Cherryleaf smiled at her and looked up at the sky, wondering about what the future holds.

Her gaze wandered back to the apprentices. She raised her head as she noticed Mothflame with the two. "At least their aunt is supportive... hey, wasn't Mothflame your mentor?" She looked back over at Cherryleaf.

“Nonsense, you can be wise at any age I believe!” Cherryleaf said almost jokingly.

She raised her paw to groom herself but stopped suddenly when Spottedblaze spoke to her again- “Hm? Oh! Yes Mothflame was my mentor! And the best mentor I could ever ask for. She’s so strong I could sometimes barely keep up with her training!”

Before she could reply, the ginger she-cat was bounding right up to Cherryleaf. Spottedblaze only hummed in response.

"Ayy, there's mah girl!! Gettin' 'er first appren'ice already! Arent'cha excited?! OH, y' gunna do GREAT, I jus' know it!" Mothflame had a silly accent, Starclan knows where she got it from, and was often full of life. Her tail almost wagged in the air like a dog with excitement. "Oh, whaddaya gonna do first?! Huntin? Fightin? Swimmin?!" She almost seemed more excited than Starlingpaw herself.

Thread 2: Mentors

Spottedblaze could hardly sleep. Her tail twitched, her mind wrapped up in thought. Birchwatcher couldn't murder a cat! She was the medicine cat for so long; she could never be so cruel like that now!

She shook herself and padded out of her den. Her gaze wandered up to the sky. The stars shone, and it seemed the clusters of silverpelt were growing by the moons. It wore her heart heavy. But newleaf typically brings new kits with it, she reminded herself hopefully. Maybe things can get better.

As the night’s cold lingers, Cherryleaf stays sleeping in her nest in the warriors den, but she was awakened by even a small noise from outside. Cherryleaf slowly opens her eyes and shifts in her bedding, she turns her head to look outside, beyond the ferns keeping the inside of the den warm.

She only stood up and shook her pelt a bit. When she was fully awake she looked out more and popped her head out to see whose there, ‘Oh! The medicine cat!’ She thought, trying to not get caught.

Perchkit was sneaking towards her. "Hi, Spottedblaze!" Perchkit whispered quite loudly. She stifled a laugh. "Hi, Perchkit."

"What are you doing out here?" The ginger she-cat tilted her head dramatically. "I could ask you the same."

"Yeah, me too..." Spottedblaze looked behind Perchkit to see Starlingkit following her. "Hailfall will be angry if she sees you out..."

"Hailfall worries too much!" Perchkit complained. "We're being apprenticed in the morning, she can't baby us forever!" Starlingkit crouched low to the ground. "I guess you're right..."

Perchkit turned to Spottedblaze. "We're 6 moons old now! Tawnystar said she'd make us apprentices in the morning, but I can't wait that long!"

Spottedblaze smiled. "Well it won't be too long now. The moon will start to fall any minute now." Her gaze traveled to the sky, then back to Perchkit. "Are you excited to be a warrior?"

The ginger kit hummed. "Well... I wanna be like you!" The black she-cat tilted her head. "I want to be a medicine cat," Perchkit clarified.

"Yeah! I was going to ask you about it, but you ran off to the gathering before I could." She looked up at Spottedblaze with round eyes. "Pleaaaaase?"

Cherryleaf looked around where Spottedblaze sat. Her eyes grew wide as two smaller figures came out of the nursery to meet the medicine cat.

‘Those must be the kits!’ Cherryleaf thought.

The white freckled she-cat came quietly padding out the den and over to where Spottedblaze and the kits are sitting, and greeted them with a warm, tired smile “Hello you little rascals! What are you doing out so early in the morning?” She whispered loudly

Spottedblaze kept to herself when Cherryleaf approached. She was much friendlier with kits than older cats anymore.

"I couldn't sleep!" Perchkit smiled up at Cherryleaf. "Neither could Starlingkit."

"I stayed in the nest... until she ran off." Starlingkit stared at her sister quietly.

“Oh well that makes sense, I couldn’t really sleep myself!” She chuckled a little bit.

“So, are you two ready to become warriors at dawn?” The warrior smiled and sat down next to the three cats.

"I want to be a medicine cat," Perchkit reiterated, seeming a little more frustrated now. She looked up at Spottedblaze. She looked back down at her. "I'll talk with Tawnystar about it once she's awake."

Perchkit lit up, her tail swaying in the air. "Really?? Yay!!"

"Shhh!" Starlingkit pinned her ears back, hushing Perchkit irritably.

“A medicine cat? That’s amazing to hear! If my hunting skills weren’t so good, I’d honestly be one myself” Cherryleaf laughed and looked over at Spottedblaze and smiled, “you’ll have your own apprentice, isn’t that amazing?”

She made sure to give a warm look to the kits and her, “I hope Tawnystar allows it, especially with all the recent battles going on.”

Spottedblaze nodded. "She might..." Her glance climbed back up to the sky. The sun was rising now, and Tawnystar would be awake any minute now.

“ Well, we could make her your apprentice perhaps..! After all we may need another medicine cat if the battles keep happening….So I’ll think about it! Thanks for telling me, I was already thinking of giving Starlingkit to Cherryleaf.” Tawnystar said.

Tawnystar leapt onto the tree stump in the middle of the camp.

“Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Tree stump!”

Spottedblaze sat down out of the way while the clan gathered.

"My little princesses better get good mentors! Especially Starlingkit!" Hailfall was protectively wraped around her kits, at least to the best of her ability. Her tail tip lashed side to side. Perchkit seemed fed up with her mother, while Starlingkit just hid from every cat.

Aside from the annoyance at Hailfall, Perchkit was excitedly bouncing, staring up at Tawnystar with big eyes.

Cherryleaf turned around, puffed out her chest and sighed then followed the rest of the cats to the stump where they all gathered.

As she sat near the back of the group of cats, as she herself is surprisingly shy, the warrior took a small glance at Hailfall with annoyance.

Cherryleaf made sure to sit properly and looked right up at Tawnystar, waiting.

Tawnystar looked down at Starlingkit and Perchkit fondly. She would call beckon both of them to come forward.

“ Starlingkit and Perchkit, You both have reached the age of six moons. Until you receive your warrior name you will both be referred to as Starlingpaw and Perchpaw. Perchpaws mentor will be Spottedblaze and Starlingpaws mentor will be Cherryleaf, I hope they pass down their skills to both of you.”

She would call fourth Cherryleaf and Spottedblaze “ You are both ready to take on new apprentices. You have received excellent training from your former mentors, you have both shown great skill and I hope you both pass down your skills.”

Starlingpaw nodded slightly, shyly looking up at Cherryleaf. "I guess I am."

“Finally we have apprentices now! I’m so so excited to teach Starlingpaw soo many cool moves I was taught!” She sighed happily “Oh the days of being an apprentice..feels like ages ago! Hehe” Cherryleaf tried to lighten up the mood with a simple joke.

Spottedblaze nodded. Her gaze flicked to Hailfall, then down at her paws. "Yeah..." She stared at Cherryleaf for a moment. The warrior wasn't all that old, only 13 moons. Wasn't she a little young to be saying that? She bit back the comment; Spottedblaze herself was quite young too.

Even after the queen stalked back to the nursery, she could still feel Hailfall's sharp green gaze fixed on her. She stared back at the two apprentices. Perchpaw was bouncing on her toes eagerly while Starlingpaw smiled up at her quietly.

Cherryleaf realized Spottedblaze may not want to speak much, so she chuckled nervously after Spottedblaze’s response

“Hehe.. oh, well, what are you gonna be teaching Perchpaw? I heard there’s lots of rules when it comes to being a medicine cat.” She looked all around camp and blinked a few times “I mean you gotta take care of all these cats! Must be a handful..” the freckled she-cat plopped herself down to the dirt, avoiding any glance or stare from Hailfall.

Spottedblaze flicked her ear. "Well, there is a lot to learn. First, she has to learn the territory and the basic herbs, where they grow and how to obtain them. Then she needs to learn their uses: which are good, which are bad, which herbs treat what, all that."

She seemed to loosen up when talking about medicine cat duties. Her tail flicked excitedly. "Then she needs to learn about Starclan, the medicine cat code, how to interpret signs, and just learn about our ancestors in general."

Her yellow eyes rose to the sky. "When she's learned all that, she can be taken to the Starlit Oak on the night of the half moon, and Starclan will grant her the medicine cat position and her medicine cat name. They'll recognize her as a full medicine cat then, and she'll be one of the most important cats on the island." She couldn't help but smile eagerly. "It's just how Ottersway described it to me." Her smile faded, her gaze traveling back down to the ground slowly.

Thread 2: Mentors

Spottedblaze could hardly sleep. Her tail twitched, her mind wrapped up in thought. Birchwatcher couldn't murder a cat! She was the medicine cat for so long; she could never be so cruel like that now!

She shook herself and padded out of her den. Her gaze wandered up to the sky. The stars shone, and it seemed the clusters of silverpelt were growing by the moons. It wore her heart heavy. But newleaf typically brings new kits with it, she reminded herself hopefully. Maybe things can get better.

As the night’s cold lingers, Cherryleaf stays sleeping in her nest in the warriors den, but she was awakened by even a small noise from outside. Cherryleaf slowly opens her eyes and shifts in her bedding, she turns her head to look outside, beyond the ferns keeping the inside of the den warm.

She only stood up and shook her pelt a bit. When she was fully awake she looked out more and popped her head out to see whose there, ‘Oh! The medicine cat!’ She thought, trying to not get caught.

Spottedblaze stayed silent, lost in her thoughts. Her ear twitched as a rustle came from the nursery. She turned her head.

Perchkit was sneaking towards her. "Hi, Spottedblaze!" Perchkit whispered quite loudly. She stifled a laugh. "Hi, Perchkit."

"What are you doing out here?" The ginger she-cat tilted her head dramatically. "I could ask you the same."

"Yeah, me too..." Spottedblaze looked behind Perchkit to see Starlingkit following her. "Hailfall will be angry if she sees you out..."

"Hailfall worries too much!" Perchkit complained. "We're being apprenticed in the morning, she can't baby us forever!" Starlingkit crouched low to the ground. "I guess you're right..."

Perchkit turned to Spottedblaze. "We're 6 moons old now! Tawnystar said she'd make us apprentices in the morning, but I can't wait that long!"

Spottedblaze smiled. "Well it won't be too long now. The moon will start to fall any minute now." Her gaze traveled to the sky, then back to Perchkit. "Are you excited to be a warrior?"

The ginger kit hummed. "Well... I wanna be like you!" The black she-cat tilted her head. "I want to be a medicine cat," Perchkit clarified.

Spottedblaze perked up. "Oh?"

"Yeah! I was going to ask you about it, but you ran off to the gathering before I could." She looked up at Spottedblaze with round eyes. "Pleaaaaase?"

"Well..."

Cherryleaf looked around where Spottedblaze sat. Her eyes grew wide as two smaller figures came out of the nursery to meet the medicine cat.

‘Those must be the kits!’ Cherryleaf thought.

‘I gotta go meet them!’

The white freckled she-cat came quietly padding out the den and over to where Spottedblaze and the kits are sitting, and greeted them with a warm, tired smile “Hello you little rascals! What are you doing out so early in the morning?” She whispered loudly

"I couldn't sleep!" Perchkit smiled up at Cherryleaf. "Neither could Starlingkit."

"I stayed in the nest... until she ran off." Starlingkit stared at her sister quietly.

“Oh well that makes sense, I couldn’t really sleep myself!” She chuckled a little bit.

“So, are you two ready to become warriors at dawn?” The warrior smiled and sat down next to the three cats.

"I want to be a medicine cat," Perchkit reiterated, seeming a little more frustrated now. She looked up at Spottedblaze. She looked back down at her. "I'll talk with Tawnystar about it once she's awake."

Perchkit lit up, her tail swaying in the air. "Really?? Yay!!"

"Shhh!" Starlingkit pinned her ears back, hushing Perchkit irritably.

“A medicine cat? That’s amazing to hear! If my hunting skills weren’t so good, I’d honestly be one myself” Cherryleaf laughed and looked over at Spottedblaze and smiled, “you’ll have your own apprentice, isn’t that amazing?”

She made sure to give a warm look to the kits and her, “I hope Tawnystar allows it, especially with all the recent battles going on.”

Spottedblaze nodded. "She might..." Her glance climbed back up to the sky. The sun was rising now, and Tawnystar would be awake any minute now.

Tawnystar crept out of her den and trotted over to the fresh-kill pile. She would take a vole from the pile before going to the water and getting a drink.

Spottedblaze hesitated, but followed Tawnystar quietly. Eventually, she spoke. "Good morning, Tawnystar." Her tail swayed. "You're, uh, apprenticing Perchkit and Starlingkit today, right?"

“ Good morning Spottedblaze, and yes I do intend on apprenticing perchkit and starlingkit today, why do you ask?” She said her tail high.

Spottedblaze flicked her ear. "Well, Perchkit was talking to me this morning and she says she wants to be a medicine cat..! So I said I'd, uh, talk to you about it, yknow? So..."

“ Well, we could make her your apprentice perhaps..! After all we may need another medicine cat if the battles keep happening….So I’ll think about it! Thanks for telling me, I was already thinking of giving Starlingkit to Cherryleaf.” Tawnystar said.

The black she-cat hummed curiously. She nodded. "Okay then. She'll be happy to hear that." Spottedblaze quickly turned to leave for the camp again.

Cherryleaf looked at Spottedblaze talking to Tawnystar, and smiled at her leader.

She looked back at the kits and gathered a small moss ball for the kits to play with. ‘They’re both so adorable..I can’t wait for Starlingkit to be a warrior.’

Tawnystar leapt onto the tree stump in the middle of the camp.

“Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Tree stump!”

Cats would gather around Tawnystar exited about the new apprentices.

Spottedblaze sat down out of the way while the clan gathered.

"My little princesses better get good mentors! Especially Starlingkit!" Hailfall was protectively wraped around her kits, at least to the best of her ability. Her tail tip lashed side to side. Perchkit seemed fed up with her mother, while Starlingkit just hid from every cat.

Aside from the annoyance at Hailfall, Perchkit was excitedly bouncing, staring up at Tawnystar with big eyes.

Cherryleaf turned around, puffed out her chest and sighed then followed the rest of the cats to the stump where they all gathered.

As she sat near the back of the group of cats, as she herself is surprisingly shy, the warrior took a small glance at Hailfall with annoyance.

Cherryleaf made sure to sit properly and looked right up at Tawnystar, waiting.

Tawnystar looked down at Starlingkit and Perchkit fondly. She would call beckon both of them to come forward.

“ Starlingkit and Perchkit, You both have reached the age of six moons. Until you receive your warrior name you will both be referred to as Starlingpaw and Perchpaw. Perchpaws mentor will be Spottedblaze and Starlingpaws mentor will be Cherryleaf, I hope they pass down their skills to both of you.”

She would call fourth Cherryleaf and Spottedblaze “ You are both ready to take on new apprentices. You have received excellent training from your former mentors, you have both shown great skill and I hope you both pass down your skills.”

Starlingpaw slinked away to meet with Cherryleaf, Hailfall following her close behind. Her green glare was set on Cherryleaf disapprovingly.

Cherryleaf smiled “I won’t let you down Tawnystar!” she spoke loudly, not caring if some of the attention was on her.

She looked for Starlingpaw and saw her bounding toward her, and met her half way. “Aren’t you excited! I’ll make sure your training will be fun!” Cherryleaf smiled and laughed, ignoring Hailfall’s peircing stare.

Starlingpaw nodded slightly, shyly looking up at Cherryleaf. "I guess I am."

“Come on now, don’t be shy, I promise I won’t bite.” She spoke softly to her apprentice and looked over at Spottedblaze and Perchpaw “What if we joined your sister and Spottedblaze? Would that make you feel better?”

“I know you’re mentoring a future medicine cat but, mind if our apprentices can uhh.. hang out for a bit?” Cherryleaf toned down her voice and whispered “Starlingpaw is a bit nervous”

"Oh," Spottedblaze perked up quietly. "Uh, sure." She looked down at her apprentice. "Go talk to your sister before we plan training."

Perchpaw eagerly nodded, bounding over to Starlingpaw. The two spoke with one another happily. Starlingpaw's tail stopped swaying anxiously. Hailfall was watching the four cats from the side, her green glare set intently.

“Finally we have apprentices now! I’m so so excited to teach Starlingpaw soo many cool moves I was taught!” She sighed happily “Oh the days of being an apprentice..feels like ages ago! Hehe” Cherryleaf tried to lighten up the mood with a simple joke.

She only stood up and shook her pelt a bit. When she was fully awake she looked out more and popped her head out to see whose there, ‘Oh! The medicine cat!’ She thought, trying to not get caught.

Spottedblaze flicked her ear. "Well, Perchkit was talking to me this morning and she says she wants to be a medicine cat..! So I said I'd, uh, talk to you about it, yknow? So..."

“ Well, we could make her your apprentice perhaps..! After all we may need another medicine cat if the battles keep happening….So I’ll think about it! Thanks for telling me, I was already thinking of giving Starlingkit to Cherryleaf.” Tawnystar said.

The black she-cat hummed curiously. She nodded. "Okay then. She'll be happy to hear that." Spottedblaze quickly turned to leave for the camp again.

Cherryleaf looked at Spottedblaze talking to Tawnystar, and smiled at her leader.

She looked back at the kits and gathered a small moss ball for the kits to play with. ‘They’re both so adorable..I can’t wait for Starlingkit to be a warrior.’

Tawnystar leapt onto the tree stump in the middle of the camp.

“Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Tree stump!”

Cats would gather around Tawnystar exited about the new apprentices.

Spottedblaze sat down out of the way while the clan gathered.

"My little princesses better get good mentors! Especially Starlingkit!" Hailfall was protectively wraped around her kits, at least to the best of her ability. Her tail tip lashed side to side. Perchkit seemed fed up with her mother, while Starlingkit just hid from every cat.

Aside from the annoyance at Hailfall, Perchkit was excitedly bouncing, staring up at Tawnystar with big eyes.

Thread 2: Mentors

Spottedblaze could hardly sleep. Her tail twitched, her mind wrapped up in thought. Birchwatcher couldn't murder a cat! She was the medicine cat for so long; she could never be so cruel like that now!

She shook herself and padded out of her den. Her gaze wandered up to the sky. The stars shone, and it seemed the clusters of silverpelt were growing by the moons. It wore her heart heavy. But newleaf typically brings new kits with it, she reminded herself hopefully. Maybe things can get better.

As the night’s cold lingers, Cherryleaf stays sleeping in her nest in the warriors den, but she was awakened by even a small noise from outside. Cherryleaf slowly opens her eyes and shifts in her bedding, she turns her head to look outside, beyond the ferns keeping the inside of the den warm.

She only stood up and shook her pelt a bit. When she was fully awake she looked out more and popped her head out to see whose there, ‘Oh! The medicine cat!’ She thought, trying to not get caught.

Spottedblaze stayed silent, lost in her thoughts. Her ear twitched as a rustle came from the nursery. She turned her head.

Perchkit was sneaking towards her. "Hi, Spottedblaze!" Perchkit whispered quite loudly. She stifled a laugh. "Hi, Perchkit."

"What are you doing out here?" The ginger she-cat tilted her head dramatically. "I could ask you the same."

"Yeah, me too..." Spottedblaze looked behind Perchkit to see Starlingkit following her. "Hailfall will be angry if she sees you out..."

"Hailfall worries too much!" Perchkit complained. "We're being apprenticed in the morning, she can't baby us forever!" Starlingkit crouched low to the ground. "I guess you're right..."

Perchkit turned to Spottedblaze. "We're 6 moons old now! Tawnystar said she'd make us apprentices in the morning, but I can't wait that long!"

Spottedblaze smiled. "Well it won't be too long now. The moon will start to fall any minute now." Her gaze traveled to the sky, then back to Perchkit. "Are you excited to be a warrior?"

The ginger kit hummed. "Well... I wanna be like you!" The black she-cat tilted her head. "I want to be a medicine cat," Perchkit clarified.

Spottedblaze perked up. "Oh?"

"Yeah! I was going to ask you about it, but you ran off to the gathering before I could." She looked up at Spottedblaze with round eyes. "Pleaaaaase?"

"Well..."

Cherryleaf looked around where Spottedblaze sat. Her eyes grew wide as two smaller figures came out of the nursery to meet the medicine cat.

‘Those must be the kits!’ Cherryleaf thought.

‘I gotta go meet them!’

The white freckled she-cat came quietly padding out the den and over to where Spottedblaze and the kits are sitting, and greeted them with a warm, tired smile “Hello you little rascals! What are you doing out so early in the morning?” She whispered loudly

Spottedblaze kept to herself when Cherryleaf approached. She was much friendlier with kits than older cats anymore.

"I couldn't sleep!" Perchkit smiled up at Cherryleaf. "Neither could Starlingkit."

"I stayed in the nest... until she ran off." Starlingkit stared at her sister quietly.

“Oh well that makes sense, I couldn’t really sleep myself!” She chuckled a little bit.

“So, are you two ready to become warriors at dawn?” The warrior smiled and sat down next to the three cats.

"I want to be a medicine cat," Perchkit reiterated, seeming a little more frustrated now. She looked up at Spottedblaze. She looked back down at her. "I'll talk with Tawnystar about it once she's awake."

Perchkit lit up, her tail swaying in the air. "Really?? Yay!!"

"Shhh!" Starlingkit pinned her ears back, hushing Perchkit irritably.

“A medicine cat? That’s amazing to hear! If my hunting skills weren’t so good, I’d honestly be one myself” Cherryleaf laughed and looked over at Spottedblaze and smiled, “you’ll have your own apprentice, isn’t that amazing?”

She made sure to give a warm look to the kits and her, “I hope Tawnystar allows it, especially with all the recent battles going on.”

Spottedblaze nodded. "She might..." Her glance climbed back up to the sky. The sun was rising now, and Tawnystar would be awake any minute now.

Tawnystar crept out of her den and trotted over to the fresh-kill pile. She would take a vole from the pile before going to the water and getting a drink.

Spottedblaze hesitated, but followed Tawnystar quietly. Eventually, she spoke. "Good morning, Tawnystar." Her tail swayed. "You're, uh, apprenticing Perchkit and Starlingkit today, right?"
