related to ur recent post about jannik’s success relative to fans’ reactions. I stg it’s bothering me so much, but one thing that’s really getting me is that people are saying he didn’t beat Zverev “well enough” bc he was able to take a set and challenge him throughout the match. like what?

it was quite literally one of the best matches i’ve ever seen Zverev play — if he couldn’t challenge him playing like that then that would actually mean dire things about the competitive level of the atp. i personally enjoy when things are more difficult and competitive! it makes everything mean so much more when he wins. and as for the forehand i am not worried about it. if there’s one thing we know it’s that he knows his game and knows what is and isn’t working, and now that we’re headed onto one surface for a while it may be easier to fine tune it. plus yeah it feels absolutely ridiculous to complain about his level when he’s 44-3 for the year.

I hate Zverev so I wanted to see him get thrashed, but people are so silly about that match lol. Jannik made some errors (notably on bp in the first set and during the first tiebreak) but why are we pretending Zverev has never played Jannik close before this one match. He won the first set in the Vienna final, despite that being indoors, where Jannik has been practically untouchable for 2 years. And that was during 2025, when his forehand was “good” compared to how bad everyone thinks it is now. I don’t watch Zverev enough to rank his performances, but I’ve watched a lot of analyses of the Wimbledon final and EVERYONE is saying it’s the best match they’ve EVER seen Zverev play. He threw literally everything he had at Jannik and still, he couldn’t even take him to 5 sets. And I’m supposed to be mad? Zverev made 75% of first serves with an average speed of 132mph and Jannik still won more first serve return points than Zverev did on Jannik’s slower serve, and I’m supposed to think there’s a major problem here?

As far as his forehand, that forehand just won Wimbledon so idk. I think it’s fine for it to have a shaky tournament and still win a slam. He’ll probably shore it up as we get back to hard court, but frankly it’s not nearly as bad as people are making it out to be.

If you line up his year so far with the past 2 years, by this point of the season in 2024 he was 42-4. He’s 44-3 now. Two more wins, one fewer loss. 1 slam each. 1 masters vs 5 masters. 4 titles total (including 2 500s) vs 6 titles (all big). 2025 was obviously affected by the suspension, but he was 26-3 after wimbledon. To get to a similar number of wins, you have to push up all the way to shanghai, which brings him to 43-6. He’s literally on track to have the most successful season of his career, so I think I’m gonna trust that he and his team know what they’re doing and that they’re doing something right.
