If indigenous ppl are talking about their struggles and how systematic oppression effect them and your immediate response is “I’m not American, it’s not like that here in (Insert country)” you’re a racist. There’s indigenous ppl where you live, no matter where you are. The Ainu of Japan, the Sámi of Europe, the indigenous Palestinians, the Äynu in China, the First Nations of Canada, the Khoeisans of South Africa, Maoli of Hawaii and many more. the celtic people who lost their religious practices, languages and freedoms to the english. whose land was taken over by the english. who still, to this day, are fighting for the freedom to govern separately to the english (particularly the irish & scottish).

that’s literally textbook oppression and colonisation. people on tumblr dot com have truly never read a history book in their lives

also to clarify: indigenous means ‘ originating or occurring naturally in a particular place’. It does not mean that all indigenous populations are POC (although most are). An indigenous population does not have to be a different colour from the hegemonic population to be oppressed. being culturally distinct in language, religion and traditions makes them different from the hegemonic population.
