2026 Goals

Hello!

I've never been one for New Year's Resolutions or anything like that, but with an AO3 To Do List the length of my arm, I decided to create some goals.

These aren't set in stone, and I'm approaching them with a 'no-stress' attitude, but I wanted to share them here for some accountability.

So, here's what I want to get done going into 2026!

Complete Learn How to Live Again (Realise This is Not My End)

Upload at least ONE story each month through the year.

Focus on completing any half-written stories (Burning Embers, Dyin' Ain't so Bad, etc.)

Upload a second chapter for Another Call Unanswered.

Finish The Game is Afoot.

Complete my Bad Things Happen Bingo Card.

And that's the crux of it! Hopefully, I can cross out some of these as we go through the year, and I can make a dent in my WIP list because it's a little out of hand.

I look forward to going on this journey with you all!

Rocking back on his heels, Buck pushes himself up. He stretches his arms behind him as he climbs to his feet, shifting his weight from one foot to the other.

Then it hits.

Pain flickers through his left ankle, sparking beneath his skin and dancing across the bone.

Buck stumbles, almost falling into the refurbished flowerbed before he manages to catch himself. He winces and shifts all of his weight onto his right leg. The pain retreats to the same dull ache he had ignored a few minutes before, the sensation settling into the bone. It prickles beneath his skin like pins and needles, a slight numbness settling into his ankle. He reaches down and presses his gloved fingers to the bone, trying to feel for an injury he might have missed.

Deep down, he knows he bears some responsibility. He knows the lawsuit was a step too far, but he didn’t know what else he was supposed to do. Bobby refused to let him back or at least hear him out, and no one else was willing to listen. His medical bills and rent were beginning to stack up, and his department disability pay had stopped when they declared him fit for active duty.

He needed his job, his family.

Now, he has neither.

He has an empty, cold apartment with sparse furniture, rusty, leaky pipes, and a singular window that struggles to keep out the cool night air. His neighbors blare music at all hours of the day. The cold aggravates his leg, the muscles tense beneath his skin, and the music stops him from sleeping — so do the nightmares. Buck’s fridge has been empty for days.

Despite the music that pulses through his apartment, the walls shaking, the silence all but swallows him. It consumes him, chokes him, and he lets it.

It’ll only hurt him if it turns out Eddie’s only being cautious because of everything that happened.

He presses a light kiss to the back of Buck’s hand and interlocks their fingers. His thumb brushes over the ridges and bumps of his knuckles, trying to quell some of the anxiety.

“It’s perfect,” he says.

“Really?” Buck’s eyes light up, his piercing blue eyes sparkling in the bright sunlight.

“Really? One problem, though. I’m terrible at hedge mazes.”

He’s in the kitchen when Buck finally drags himself out of bed, usually digging through the fridge in search of something to eat. When Buck gets out of the shower, Eddie is sitting on the couch scrolling through Netflix. In the afternoon, Chris is with him. They do homework at Buck’s dining table, eat dinner together almost every night, and more often than not, Chris and Eddie will take the guest room before Buck can even offer.

A sharp, harsh cough tears itself from his throat, his lungs spasming and flames licking their way along his ribcage. Confusion twists its way through his body.

Slowly, Eddie peels his eyes open.

His vision is blurred and unfocused, the edges hazy. His stomach rolls. Nausea churns through him, and Eddie swallows the bile rising in his throat. Blinking back the haze before his eyes, Eddie tries to make sense of where he is.
